General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Cloud Gaming is fucking broken on consoles, at least for me. 99% of the time I attempt to play a cloud enabled title on my Series X I get a really stupid error message that shouldn't exist for cloud gaming, it asks me if I have the disc and to install it from there otherwise download the game. WTF MS?

On another note is anyone NOT having input lag issues with the new Pac Man collection? I've heard tons of horror stories but it seems.....fine? I'm pretty sensitive to input lag but I can't really detect anything egrigious. All these collections contain input lag usually but all the negative talk made it seem like it was going to be worse. I have a benQ 1ms monitor so I dunno if that factors in.

I've heard people say similar things about the metal slug games on Xbox but I never had game busting lag with those either (well ACA Metal Slug 1 was pretty bad at launch but that was patched)/

This does work as of late yesterday although you can't redeem it through the Xbox website, it must be done on a console. I downloaded it to my Xbox One and am going to try it on 360 later.

Dell's delivery of digital codes leaves something to be desired though (I ordered it on May 29 and it didn't show up in the digital locker until June 1) but that may have been due to Memorial Day weekend. Still wild if you're used to getting digital codes from anywhere else :whistle2:k

Yeah Dell's digital delivery is not instant and takes some time. I had a hell of a time getting my Xbox gift card from there.

I have not had that issue, but the last two weeks 99% of the time I would start it up and it would stay on that loading screen forever. I had to DOWNLOAD the three games to play for this weeks Game Pass Quests! Not cool.

I'm excited but cautious after SFV and MvC:I, but I'm there because Ono is gone and these new devs don't seem to have their heads up their asses so much. A couple years ago the person that managed to blow up Monster Hunter to where it is now was put in charge of the fighting game team (division?), and I feel like the tail end of SFV showed that change. The final season of characters were bangers, and the team actually started communicating as well as participating in those developer round tables.

Finally, my main 3 series are Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, and MvC, and two of those have been on life support since the 360.
 
So where are the good deals on Xbox gold these days? My GPU expires next week and I’m looking to convert again. I’ve got enough rewards points for 18 months of gold.

One thing I blame is being on the Insider alpha group. I recall last year a particular game was broken for a day or so. Eventually MS fixed it.

I’m not up on all the deals but Best Buy has a buy one, get one 15% off on gaming cards and at least GPU is there, might have Gold as well.

Really excited for Goldeneye. Back when I was an introverted nerd in high school I actually completed 00 Agent difficulty on all levels, which was hard as hell, especially in the last level where there's basically no cover running around on the catwalks. Strafe running at a 45 degree angle probably wasn't intentional but combining inputs from the analog stick + the strafe button on the C buttons doubled your movement speed. 

 
Will instabuy goldeneye, been a long time coming. Have leaks indicated whether it includes multi-player (even just local/split screen) or is it only the campaign?

The first expansions were all out in December, a couple months after base game release.

FH1 - Oct 23, 2012; Rally Expansion - Dec 18

FH2 - Sep 30, 2014; Storm Island - Dec 16

FH3 - Sep 27, 2016; Blizzard Mountain - Dec 13

FH4 - Oct 2, 2018; Fortune Island - Dec 13

The second achievement DLCs for FH1 and FH2 were basically car packs (1000 Club, Porsche). The second expansions for FH3 and FH4 were out in about 8 months. FH3 Hot Wheels released on May 9, 2017, and FH4 Lego was June 13, 2019.

FH5 released a bit later than the others (Nov 9), but we're approaching the 7 month mark without even an announcement. Once we got into May, I figured they'd hold off until the showcase, but I'm really curious why it's taken so long. Dealing with the playlist issues and other bugs in FH5? Focusing on Fable? Also a little surprised they haven't put out an update with achievements for things already in the game (stories, expeditions, accolades, etc.) like a number of the FH4 updates.

Shocked? Money speaks. They had hit a plateau for years by remaining console exclusive with their games and it cost them more money doing so. I think Game Pass was a hard lesson learned that focusing on hardware is for suckers now. Then again, Sony's electronics division has been in the shitter for years now so more like they've been clueless on what to do for the past decade. Maybe instead of losing incredible guys like Jack and Shawn they should have listened to their execs.

Guess it took an arrogant prick like Jim to make them listen.

They leaked it for free on PC over a year ago like 90% done. I have it and it's glorious. Everything is there from the original game and they even added new multiplayer levels like the Dam and more. Just google it if you want to know spoilers or just wait a week for the official announcement.

Anyone looking to get GPU keep an eye on your Xbox dashboard. Had a tile to convert remaining gold to GPU and get 3 extra months for $1.

Yeah. Along with Microsoft having an upper hand with PC releases in terms of competition, as game development gets more and more expensive it gets harder to justify strict console exclusives. Sega and Capcom have (mostly) been doing multiplatform for years due to this. It's more of a sign of the times than anything but it's still surprising to see it.

Do the dual analog controls feel good? The Perfect Dark port on 360 always felt a little off to me, like they had just used a key binder instead of revamping it for dual analogs. The original Goldeneye engine relied heavily on an X / Y axis and diagonal camera movement felt very awkward / unnatural even if it was technically possible.

You don't even have to look for a tile. It's a promo that runs through the month. If you're not a game pass member at all, you should be able to get the 3 months for $1 deal on the Microsoft website, Microsoft Store, and Xbox desktop app.

Can we get a goldeneye controller? 🤤 yes, I get more excited about controllers than games.

Edit: I think it’s possible they have a goldeneye Series S console. Use the iconic “looking through the barrel” on the Series S heat vent. Coupled with golden controller (gold pp7). But, probably won’t happen because of current events.

Feels fine to me. I'm sure they have made some tweaks to it though so don't know if it will play exactly like the game I have.

I'm hesitant to be excited about Goldeneye, simply because of that version that came out back on Xbox 360 where they replaced Pierce Brosnan's Bond with Daniel Craig's character resemblance. I sincerely hope they don't do something like that again, or maybe at least put in different Bond "skins" so you can pick whichever one you want.

 
Well now that I finally made it through Tunic (I won't even say beat), I am unfortunately less enthusiastic about it. While Death's Door got more interesting as the game progressed, Tunic just became more frustrating. I ended up running the last 3rd of the game on god mode...which is unfortunate.

Does god mode disable achievements? Been thinking about going back but playing with the settings. I’ve been doing ok, but it can be a little frustrating at times.

Also, I have to imagine Goldeneye will launch on Game Pass so that’ll be a plus as well.

I Just remember everyone thought it was coming out last year, but my conspiracy theory is they were waiting until No Time to Die to get released so Craig won't be Bond anymore and thus they can use whoever in the game without having to use the most current Bond since no one casted. Though of course film got delayed and here we are now.

The current Achievement screenshots would indicate it's either a straight up-res of the N64 graphics, or maybe that it's got the anniversary switch button that the 360 leak had but isn't showing it.
 
My favorite Sony news this month has nothing to do with video games, but Sony thinking based on memes that Morbius would surely be a hit this time and rereleased it in 1000 theaters. Turns out it instead bombed...again. The lessons from Snakes on a Plane seem all, but forgotten.
