General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

As expected, Ragnarok is getting fantastic reviews across the board.  Looks fantastic and is tempting me to ditch the last of my GS credit into a PS5 (although every time I buy a PS I never use it - I partly blame GP for this).  Also really impressive with how much output they are still getting with the PS4 Pro

Like twice a year I go through the exclusives for about 2 weeks and let the ps5 collect more dust. I have the adaptive triggers turned off, but the controller does fell better than the ps4. I think I was underwhelmed by many exclusives last gen because the controller just felt so odd compared to the xbox controller.

 
I have been trying to finish God of War (2018) for months and have been struggling to do it. I just get bored and the son thing does nothing for me. Know I’m in the minority but I don’t get the hype. It just seems way overrated so I am not feeling excitement for Ragnarok either.

I say this as someone who actively makes time to nurture my PS5 a few times a week.

FH5 playlist

Sunday's daily is 3 stars at Trail Blazers and there are 2 Trail Blazers in the playlist, though the cars and targets don't lend themselves to completing the daily.

The week also has the Eliminator and next Wednesday's daily involves getting 5 speed skills in Eliminator.

Trial - Dirt - Stock B638 2018 Land Rover Velar First Edition (reward from Playground Games, 85k autoshow) - Team finished 2-7 in the first race.  Won second race, but were spread out.  One of the streams around 2/3 - 3/4 through the lap has rocks on the right.  Flipped on one of the them on the first lap, passed by everyone, very sluggish to get back to speed and only managed to climb to 11th by the end.

EventLab - S1 900 Anything Goes - 1 lap, about 3.5 minutes, no drivatars.  Thanks to the Hot Wheels speed boosters, got the Speedzilla accolade (3 Awesome Speed Skills in 3 minutes in a single Dirt race).  Wasn't sure which one of the regular Dirt routes could've been used for that.

Reservoir Drift Zone - S1 900 TVR - 120k - Topped 266k with a stock 2018 TVR Griffith.  Shouldn't be a problem, a long zone and only need half the 3 star score.

Desert Descent Trail Blazer - A800 Land Rover - 12 seconds - Little over 26 seconds remaining with the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR (519 397 079), even skipped rewinding after hitting a rock.

Over the Dune Trail Blazer - A800 Jaguar - 8 seconds - Little over 21 seconds left with the 2012 Jaguar XKR-S (734 360 314).  Pretty much just stick to the paved road, though skip over that U bend near the start.

Well Seasoned - Street - A800 UK - No problems in the 2012 Jaguar XKR-S (734 360 314).

Photo - Horizon 4 festival site is near the west end of the Los Campos Drift Zone south of the stadium.  No problems registering.  Location completes today's daily.

Collectibles - Reward is the weekly car, needed for the photo challenge and for the Friday daily.

  • From the Horizon Callejera Street icon, drive south and turn left at the first intersection.  Board is on the left.
  • Follow west road from the intersection south of Horizon Callejera, board on the right about 2/3 of the way to next intersection.
  • On the road outside the stadium, at about 5 o'clock, drive away from the stadium.  A board is just before you get to the next road.
  • A little east of the stadium is a 4 way intersection with a paved road changing to dashed dirt north / south.  Follow the dirt road, board is on the left.
  • From the above board, keep following the road.  Take the right dashed dirt road for a board on the left.

Adaptive triggers, if they are what I think they are, are my favorite thing about the PS5 controller. Only a few games I have played use them but when they do they are great.

The game looks amazing. Playing that on PS5 it looks so much better than any game on Series X so far. That said, I find the game to be super boring. I stopped maybe half way through the game and like you found it to be a struggle to enjoy. Why play a game that is not fun?

I Enjoyed it and am looking forward to Ragnarok, but the thing is though I think both the backlog and AAA games having problems on launch being a given these days has got me in no rush to play it (also no PS5). With that said I just don't feel as much excitement for game releases these days as well. Only thing I can think of that got my counting down the days is Yakuza 8 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Some shooters like CoD Cold War used them and I hated it. I either turned it off or turned it down to the lowest setting before off. I've a few games in my backlog that may use them when I get to them.

The last God of War had a great story, but the gameplay wasn't that great IMO. It got better in the 2nd half with upgrades and new weapons. I've had similar opinions on many other PS exclusives like the Naughty Dog games. Uncharted 4 played best. I wonder how much of the gameplay blandness has to do with the PS controllers. Aiming anything in their games always feels off to me.

 
I agree with comments on here that PS has some of the best storytelling groups in the business (Naughty Dog in particular), but I have never been able to get over the combat dullness.  Uncharted got better, but I never could get into the gun play in those games.  The one exception for me was Horizon, which I found really fun.  GoW 2018 lost me with repitition in gameplay and too many puzzles interrupting the story (made it halfway-ish through).  For me it goes to show that the story-telling is so solid that the gameplay is just an interruption to it.  I will be curious how the Last of Us show hits me (I think I will enjoy it more than the game)

Actually, I don't think we're in the minority here as the comments for reviews I've been reading are rife with critiques on combat. Some were disappointed to hear they did nothing to improve the lethargic combat, and I think the conversation of GOTY keeps comparing it to Elden Ring. It's not apples to apples, but Elden Ring has set a bar for immersion and combat so high that people are finally waking up to the fact Sony has a proven formula they refuse to change.

I'm actually surprised by the reaction across the board, because I thought GoW was just another beloved beacon for Sony fanbois to just rally around and foam at the mouth over. Gives me a bit of hope for critical thinking TBH.

Was the entire group still there in the second race? I remember times in FH4 it would give the player team a win in the Trial when they were behind in points. Never picked up on a pattern for when it happened, though I think sometimes a player would drop out, taking points away from the AI, and while the scoreboard didn't update, it still gave the win to the players.

Same, except at the time I was ok with games that felt fresh mechanically and the stories were engaging. GoW fell flat for me on all fronts because I'm CF by choice (hate kids) and the corridor/puzzle/action games are stale design. Sony simply isn't willing to take risks now and it will come back to bite them.

I've been in Trials where there were 7 AI drivers and 5 Players and vice versa. Prob was just trying to make sure there was a total of 12.

Last week when I played Horizon Tour event there were no AI drivers in the second race. It was just us 4 players.

The second race one player dropped out. AI was all still there. All I can think is maybe when the player dropped out the points for the first race were changed to remove the points the AI got for beating him so that loss changed to a win? I have no idea.

 
I'll play God of War eventually when the Steam version hits $20. The real question is, do I buy a Dualsense 5 for Steam games or just use an Xbox controller as usual?

I guess what I meant by that is a new GTA was known factor. The leaked footage for that was surprisingly plentiful but not exactly enlightening. It's GTA, what do you expect?

This, on the other hand, is Kojima! And Xbox! Something new and cool or whatever! No details at all!

And the leak looks like they could be screenshots from Death Stranding.
 
Taking my time with Guardians of the Galaxy and God, the game is so damn fun writing wise. A part of me is hoping Microsoft buys Eidos Montreal and do with Guardians like what Sony is doing to Spider-man and Wolverine.

I really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy (got the platinum on PS+).  Sometimes it felt like there was TOO much party banter.  You had to loiter around the ship and various areas of the game for unnaturally long amounts of time to hear a lot of the conversations, and you would frequently cut them off if you moved forward a bit too much.  It's too bad that it won't get a sequel.

Gaming adjacent question - can anyone recommend AKRacing chairs based on ergonomics? I officially need a new office chair and the ones I'm seeing online which are best for ergonomics seem to be the ones marketed for PC gaming. Working from home 70% of the time, I sit in front of a computer more than ever and as much as I want to play games in my spare time, I need a better setup.

In general I've heard chairs actually based on the racing bucket seat design kind of suck. It's more about looking cool than being ergonomically designed.

I can't speak to AKRacing, haven't heard anything either way. A couple friends got Secret Labs chairs a month ago and have liked them so far.

I saw this article getting recommended a bunch when it came out.

In my experience, an office chair from somewhere like Herman Miller or Steelcase is going to surpass pretty much any chair designed for gaming. A chair designed for is probably not going to be a good value. I recommend googling around near you and finding one of those places that purchases office furniture from offices that close. I game in a $1,500 chair from a Verizon call center than closed down that I purchased used for $300. A lot of these places are also willing to tune up/repair office chairs if any problems develop, so they can practically last forever.
 
I Know he's a piece of shit, but every time I hear people talk about gaming chair's I think about Conor McGregor's thoughts on Nate Diaz's gaming chair I laugh.

Surprised I'm not the only one recommending it here, but I did finally splurge on a HM chair for $1,500 after getting sick and tired of tossing out old chairs that cost $1-300 each time. I've had mine for half a year and it's still brand new. These chairs don't give like the crappy cushions in every other one, so no indentations (the armrests especially) or even signs that it would decay over time. I fully expect to have this thing until I die unless something drastic happens lol.

I've heard you can find them cheap aftermarket so if you can, go that route. I just wanted mine to be new and one owner kind of route.

I have been using AKRacing Masters Series Max chair for nearly an year for both work and gaming. Its mainly for heavy built it comes with all metal frame with max capacity of around 350+ lb with arm rest adjustable both vertically and horizontally.

Playing through Gotham Knights now via GameFly rental and it doesnt really do anything great. I was hoping at least the dialogue or story would be solid, but everything so far is just okay. The loot system is very lackluster (I’m probably biased coming from Destiny 2), dialogue is fairly corny, combat feels sluggish but serviceable, and world traversal is not overly smooth. Honestly, I thought 30fps would be my biggest complaint, but it’s not too bad compared to the other stuff I mentioned. I would expect a price drop pretty fast.

I’ve said before that I think Gotham Knights is this year’s GotG, but at least GotG had some great strengths.

Been doing since it started, great deal saved me many points. You can double dip on movie or game punchcards.

They last for damn ever. I got 6 from my office when they went permanent remote during COVID (for family and friends). They were at least 5 years old already at the time, but all are as solid as they ever were.

A lot of stores are having issues getting the discount to activate. Apparently has something to do with newer registers/software not applying the discount. I stopped by my local DG and it rang full price. Many on SD had the same experience.

Hopefully they do this again during BF and have it working properly.

I had no issues this morning with the $50 PSN card I bought.

These were the older card designs so maybe that was why I had no issues.

Some on SD reported it working fine at their stores. When I talked with a clerk this morning, she said she would do a system update and for me to try again later in the day. When I checked back later, she said she had been on the phone throughout the day trying to get this fixed but that nobody could give her an answer.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to try another DG. They may do it again during BF. Costco also did 20% off game currency at the end of last year.
