As many of you know, I have keeping you up to date on the status of Xbox LIVE. Here is an official message from Marc Whitten (Notwen) GM of Xbox LIVE on where we are and what we are going to do. Again, thanks for your patience.

Dear Xbox LIVE Members:



During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.



As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.



At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

But seriously, if they give me a game I already have for free, I will not be happy.
 
One month = $7.99 [when purchased alone] , so one week = $2.00 = 160 points .

So we will all come out ahead in this one , even the one month trial people that are most likely the cause .
 
I'm betting it's a pre-determined game. If not, ill be getting Puzzle Quest. Since I want that game, but if don't really wanna pay $15 for a XBLA came. Although I'd be willing to pay $20 for it on PSP.
I'm weird like that, I can't even explain my ways of thinking.
 
It'll be predetermined I'm sure. It just better not be something I already own or I'll be complaining to try to get points equal to the value somehow.
 
either way it's pretty cool, if it's a game i already own, oh well, i really wasn't on live during all of that down time any way.
 
along as it was made in within the last decade i'll be happy. i really don't care for much of the retro games on XBLA. i mean getting frogger and joust for free was more work than fun.
 
big thumbs up to m$ on this move. im sure its a predetermined game that is 400 points and selling poorly, but hey its free and noone is really in a position to complain.

We're in every position to complain, especially if i already have the game.

And if they give away a game SynGamer already has, I'm complaining!
I'd rather they give us 800 points. That would be awesome! I'd be all over Streets of Rage 2, and some other game.
 
I'm guessing Pac-man Championship Edition.

Though, the Xbox 360 Fanboy suggested, "I Survived the Xbox Live Holiday Outage of 2007" gamerpics and themes would also work.
 
This is pretty awesome.. but.. if they offer a game and you already have it, you really aren't being compensated.

Maybe we'll have a choice?? Maybe?

If that's the case, then i'll likely call in and try to get the MS points or a free month of XBL.
 
At least a limited choice.

Personally I hope to grab Puzzle Quest or Super Puzzle Fighter, but honestly I'll be happy with anything, long as it's not something I already have.
 
hopefully they let us choose between like a selection of 4 games or something, in which you choose one, then the offer "expires" or something for you. Or they might just offer a free 800 point game. And I'm sure if you already own whatever they decide to give you'll get compensated for it.

Assuming that it gets better right now. Live still sucked today. And I have a feeling it will be a while

There was a post on the X-box forum that said not to expect it to get better until Late January at the earliest. Dude claimed to work for MS, but could well have just been a troll post.

i just meant that m$ coulda shafted us and them giving us anything is nice of them. granted id be perturbed if they give me something i own, but as the fella says, "its the thought that counts."
 
I think they will most likely give out a new game so they don't have to deal with everyone saying they already own it. Now are there any good arcade games on the horizon?
