Xbox Live Compensation - Undertow Was Free 1/23-1/27

So is there any doubt that MS has some DLC in the works for this game? I'm glad we are getting it for free, but you know they have some content pack that they will be releasing in the next couple months to get us to spend something on it.

If that is the case, then can we really complain? To those of us who love the game, spending some extra points on it isn't a big deal, and to those of us who download it because it is free, we figure, o well we got a free game and that's as far as I go.

The option of downloadable content is not a bad idea in theory, because those who don't want to pay for it don't have to.

THE PROBLEM, is when certain materials are purposefully left out of the game and saved for downloadable content.

But that the latter hard to determine. New Halo maps may be developed long after the game is completed, and those employees who worked on it deserve to get paid.

A perplexing problem, indeed.

What really gets me is when they charge for something that is already on the disc.

I agree with you that companies who make you pay to unlock content that is already on the disc or withhold content just to make it DLC later are really taking advantage of people.

I'm not complaining about the game or the DLC that is soon to follow. Actually, this might be a good thing to motivate the developer to put together some quality DLC since Undertow will quickly become the XBLA game with the largest install base. Here's hoping they release something worth spending our points on and not underwater horse armor. ;)
youd have to recover his account to your 360 and download it on each account
Okay thanks :)

Yay another free Arcade game. This brings me up to 16 arcade games and a lot were from free codes that came with either my 3 month or arcade stick or for free. But ive wasted at least 5600 points on games

the demo was alright, would rather have 800 points, but this will do. At least there will be plenty of people online playing it

What about those of us who were trying to use live a lot during the outage (winter break) but can't now, becuase the 360 is at home, and they're at college? So no download
Like me, for example.

Just a heads up, I called MS yesterday, and explained that I already had the game, and they went ahead and refunded me the 800 points. Just be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes on hold.
Can they find out if we really have the game and we just get points instead?
Well, they ask for your gamertag and stuff, so maybe they do check. Of course, since I had actually purchased it, I wasnt worried about them checking up.

I tried the demo finally and it just isn't for me. I got bored after the first level. Ugh. I wish they would at least give a few games to choose from.

Played the demo last night, and didn't like it much at all.

Would greatly have prefered having my gold account extended a month, even though that's less monetary value. At least it would have been of use to me, and certainly a fair compensation for what was almost a solid month of near continuous problems for me.

I'll have to try this out today and see what it's all about.
Where as I think it's a nice gesture since it's a fairly new game AND it's an 800 points game (Seriously, who would of truly thought that would of happened?) I think it's very very weak of them to make this game the game of the week.

This is a game where the demo doesn't do it justice. The multiplayer is fantastic when you can get a few players in there.

Yeah, I'll definitely give it another try. I've just never gotten into the move around with one stick shoot with the other type of games....couldn't even get into Geometry Wars.

But its free, so I'll give it a fair shake at least.

Just got a 360 on Friday and heard this would be free to download this week, so I tried out the demo. I really like it. Pretty simple to pick up, but seems like it will be difficult to master. Need to figure out how the four different units work and develop some strategies, as I was getting my butt kicked in the second demo level. The sound is great as well. I can see why a lot of people consider this one of the better XBLA games.

Looking forward to downloading the full version and trying out the multiplayer.
I just know I'm going to forget to download this.
I wrote myself a note on a Post-It, and set a reminder on Outlook.:)

Hmm.
I have 2 gold accounts, one is for me and 1 is for my BF. I wonder if I can get the game and he can get the 800 points.

I know none of you care (and I'll probably get blasted for this) but the XBL problems have made me decide not to re-up my subscription.

And move to the PS3.

It wasn't the only factor (the fact that the next gen video format wars appears to be settled helped), but if XBL is going to suck ass for this long, with no relief in sight, and a "gesture" like this all that's offered, I'll vote with my wallet.

See ya, XBL. It was fun when it worked. BTW, no need to flame me. It's just my opinion and I'm putting my money where my mouth is.

I was wondering the same thing, as I have one and my wife has one, both Gold.

I'd assume that only an account that originally paid for the game would be able to get the points back. Nonetheless, I'll be sure to download it on my account and then on my two son's accounts just so they have it on their records. I did the same with Carcassone as I had already paid for it - but I made sure to download it on their accounts so they could have the game later if they move to another system or whatever (and it should help with the DRM issues for the inevitable day my Elite dies ;)).

I respect that. XBL was down, and hardware failures are rampant. It would seem what you are doing is more than logical.

Imagine if the 360 was solid and XBL was solid? PS3 would have been dead, MS has been idiotic to let the PS3 even survive, as it seems to finally be gaining momentum.

Are you suggesting that if the 360 were more reliable and Live worked over Christmas, the PS3 would be dead?

Okay see ya, don't let the digital door hit you in the ass on the way out. Enjoy an inferior experience.

Oh and the video format wars are far from resolved until one format has 100% of the studios, which likely won't happen for a while.

call your mom... tell her to turn on the xbox 360.. tell her to go to the marketplace blade and download the game for you..

seems simple to me.

See? Why do you have to be like that? I didn't knock anyone else's choice, I just stated my reasons for leaving. It seems to me that having a reasoned discussion involves hearing others' points of view. I know that you're probably a teenager and being an asshole comes with the territory, but I just can't let that slide.

Right now, it's 75% blu-ray exclusive and 7 of 8 releasing on blu-ray. The only hold-out is Universal. The HD-DVD cancelled their CES showing this year. It's decided. Done. Finito.

Haha, tomorrow is going to be horrible. I can't even download The Club demo tonight, and I doubt things will get better tomorrow.

I downloaded the trial version of Undertow as soon as the news hit, so that all i'd have to do is click on the free full version and it would unlock it fast.

Also, I am extremely happy that they did NOT just add a month or two on to our current live subscription, as I'd much rather have a free game than tacked on time I may not even want when my current subscription runs out.
i tried downloading it and Live gives me an error..
I got that, too, but persistance paid off and it downloaded after another try or two. It's been doing that for almost everything I've tried to download today (videos, gamerpics, demos), so I'm hoping it doesn't get worse tonight when the game becomes free.

I wish I was able to do that, but theres too many games I have that have an enjoyable online experience like Rock Band. Yeah Xbox Live is really pissing me off and I will always feel like Microsoft is ripping me off since I am at the core a PC gamer. Microsoft needs an ass kicking in the xbox division, here's hoping Sony can do it with Home because Steam already drove Games for Windows Live into the ground and then some.

Oh and as a side note I called customer service and was refunded 800 points since I previously purchased Undertow.

It's available 2 a.m. PST. The game looks awesome though. 16 campaign missions, 3 playable races (with 4 different upgrades), and 16 player multiplayr (along with 2 player co-op). I'm excited!

I've gotta say, this game is pretty awesome for a arcade title. I mean it's basically Battlefield, Geometry Wars, and Echo the Dolphin combined...what's not to love? Everyone should pick this up.
Just started playing it, seems pretty awesome to me.
I'm sick, and agitated, but this game is fun. I find myself delightfully surprised.

Seems like the main complaint has to do with the shitty A.I. in single player (yeah, they are pretty useless.) But now that it's free, there should be plenty of multiplayer games going on. I just got done playing three full games and it was a blast.

Yeah, single player campaign can be taxing at times when played alone. Once you throw in a buddy it gets a lot easier/more fun.

Nice! Just got refunded my 800 points. One of my favorite XBLA games just became free for me too!

If anyone wants to tackle Co-op on Ultra difficulty, send me a friend request.

If there was a way to sell the LIVE time I still have and the points currently on my account, I'd consider doing the same. As is, it'd be pretty dumb of me to sell the system with 3000 points and 12 months of LIVE still on the account.

You could sell on craigslist with the stipulation that the person change the gamertag or something on your account, and change the contact info.

Honestly though, I'm not sure that would fetch a higher price tag. People are strange that way.
