XBOX Live Messenger Kit - 29.99 - 9/7/2007
Aren't you also able to now input the Live codes into Xbox.com?
Just checked, yup!
I didn't know about this! This is hell of a lot better! Thanks!! lol

I dunno about the keyboard- but I HATE the idea of people IMing me while I'm on the 360. I have IM on the computer AND on my phone, do people seriously need to get a hold of me while I'm playing Gears?

Maybe this will be a good idea when they have more games out that lets people on PCs and Xbox play together. Right now, I don't see the point of integrating Messenger.

The keyboard looks cool, but what else would you use it for if you don't use messenger? 360 already has the headset...

Cheapy, I know you're going to get this keyboard eventually, even if it's just for a video review. When you do, you must stack keyboard/Trash Talk/Smack Talk/Headset/Play & Charge Kit to make the MOST AMAZING CONTROLLER OF ALL TIME.

I realize there are people that are sad enough to need Myspace loaded to their phones :cough: Helo :cough: But this keyboard attachment is just as pointless if it's only going to be for M$ Hen...

Maybe it would be a little less pointless if you could browse the net with it but still... I got my PC and if that doesn't work my laptop...

You guys aren't seeing the big enough picture here.

Voice chat doesn't work in MMO's, and even when it does, it only works when you have a small concentrated group of maybe 10 - 20 people chatting with each other, say for instance a guild. It doesn't work when you have 100 - 200 people all in the same place yelling at each other.

Having this keyboard, an *official* MS keyboard attachment thingy, is the first step in trying to lure over some MMO's on the 360... think World of Warcraft. If MS could get World of Warcraft on the 360, imagine how huge that would be for Microsoft.

And it's been proven that a good solid MMO means serious $$$, and the rumors have been around forever that MS is trying to get WoW on the 360.

You know... I'm not a fan of Chats like Ao Hell so I don't see how 10-20 people typing at once is any different than 10-20 people talking at once...
You know... I'm not a fan of Chats like Ao Hell so I don't see how 10-20 people typing at once is any different than 10-20 people talking at once...
Because 10 to 20 people in a game chatting at once reads like this:

Hey do you want to trade?
Ok let's do it!
HAY GUYZ LETS GROUP
ALLIANCE R GAAAY
Yay I'm level 60

But 10 to 20 people chatting all at once sounds like this:

reihgisgSGSEGPSNGISgsegiosneg!!!?!ineoafioenf!

It's real pain in the ass on Vent in WoW when 20 - 25 people all talk at once.

Yay... instead of instantly hearing 10-20 retards talk at once and being able to press mute I get to see AND try to decifer wtf they are all saying. Right in the mists of wannabe FPS Doug doing a Headshot to me... yeah, that's much better.

Um... I'm talking specifically about MMO's being a use for this new keyboard. I never mentioned FPS's or any other genre.

Roufuss, I think you are dead on. Hasn't the new Conan MMO already been announced for 360? If so, of course people are going to want a handy keyboard.

I think there is a bigger picture here actually, expanding on what Roufuss said. I think, since this is an official MS product, it will be possible, in the future, for games to support it for game functionality. Let me explain.

We will never see this thing required by any game, of course. But I can see some RPG's like Mass Effect or Oblivion releasing patches that gives you the menu option to map commands and functions to buttons on the keyboard. Why wouldn't they? It would be relatively easy to add to any game.
I picked one of these new @ GS for $9.99 with some spare credit (no sign of the link on the Logitech site, so this was the best I could find):

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-2-USB-Keyboard/dp/B00008OQTI

A godsend for typing in the codes on XBL cards, XBLA point cards and XBLA game cards. Even had a little sticker on the side of the box that says "Works Great For Xbox 360". Works nice for text messages on XBL as well.

The little clip-on keyboard would be nice for wireless typing, though that keyboard above was cheap and easy to deal with.
Does anyone have a link to a cheap wireless keyboard that isn't infra-red?

Excellent point, but I doubt WoW will be on the 360. Blizzard doesn't have a console department anymore. :whistle2:k

MMO... RTS... doesn't matter (which I hate anyway). :inserts: Leroy Jenkins :/inserts: ha ha... lol

Just to inform people the Playstation 2 NetPlay controller/keyboard is the same keyboard as this , it detaches out of the middle .

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-NetPlay-Controller-Sony-Playstation/dp/B00006SKJ4 $14.99 Amazon

I picked up mine long ago for $13.xx at Best Buy on clearance .

I like this keyboard concept. Will be nice to send messeges to my friends, and I use Messenger every once and a while.

I think they should have just come up with an adaptor that allows you to plug a regular keyboard into the bottom of the control pad instead and proprietar-ise and rape people's wallets for that.

You can use any USB keyboard already.

Are you serious you expect ms to make the xbox controller work as a wireless usb converter. Why don't just buy a wireless keyboard and use that off the regular usb. Heck even if they made such an adapter it would kill your battery in minutes because the keyboard isn't designed for wireless usage.

Something I just thought of, I am assuming this keyboard will also work with PCs, if you were using that wireless gamepad adapter for Vista...

This way it doesnt use up an extra port for local multiplayer if you need the control pad to play as well.

you have 3 usb ports, want more get a hub they work with the 360 too.

^^ fucking awesome.

You can also get a USB hard drive with extra powered ports. Store some vids or music on there and you're good to go.

Damn, I was thinking that the keyboard was locked into the center of that controller. :whistle2:s Nice to know you could score it from Amazon.
I have MSN, and because I have it, I can tell that nobody uses it.
My friends list on my IM program: 138 AIM contacts, 24 Yahoo contacts, 21 MSN Contacts, 8 Gmail Jabber contacts

Obviously I didn't mean NOBODY litteraly. Here in America everyone uses AIM. Most of my MSN contacts are from GB.
When i was in high school all of my friends used AIM. This was pretty much due to the fact that AOL was the most common ISP before broadband was widely available and so people who didnt have AOL ended up getting AIM as to not be left out.

In college, all of my international friends used MSN and most American friends use MSN(a few use both MSN and AIM). One of my friends had more MSN contacts than all of your contacts + my contacts put together. So just because you use MSN doesnt mean you can factually tell people that nobody uses it.

Back on topic
I think the keyboard will come in handy, especially since you have games like FFXI and PSU that will benefit from it. Im still pretty mad that the 6 player chat is not voice chat though :/

I just hope an integrated browser is in the works. Long story short, I am going to live in Italy next year and it would be GREAT if I didn't have to ship over my PC and 360.

Has anyone heard anything lately on this device? I thought this was supposed to be released this summer, but haven't seen a release date yet for it. Would come in handy for me since I have some MSN Messenger contacts who do not have Xbox 360's. Would be nice to be able to chat back and forth with this while i'm playing a game.

I would hope this is a little more convenient to use than a USB keyboard, LOL.
Though personally I have no use for it that I can see.
$30!? WTF? Man, its cheaper to just get a generic USB keyboard for under $10
Logitech's USB mini-keyboard for PS2 works quite nicely and was $9.99 @ GS.

Plus, no drain on the controller's battery for the backlit buttons on the chatpad addition.

As always, this release date isn't definite because it IS EBGamestop..but it's only a few weeks away.

September 5 retail at $30
Your thoughts?

My thoughts? $10 too much. MAYBE even $5 too much, but $25 to me for this would be considering splurging.

Maybe it's time to use that $10 CC coupon that I've had since May..or I'll go whore myself on freebie sites. I do want this..but..not really looking to pay for this.

In other news:
The new color controllers are coming out soon..10/04 to be exact
Blue & Pink
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802760

http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802761

Interesting..but that blue one is kinda bleh looking. The pink one isn't THAT bad. Where's green?!

Hooray for accessories!

Can't see too many people buying those pink controllers, and I don't like that blue much (especially without a matching console color).

And I would love the keyboard, but $30 is too high for me. $20 or less would probably be where I pick one up.

I don't really "Chat" much, so not a big deal. Would be nice to have for like $15 or so.

Also, why does it include ANOTHER Wired headset. I already have like 3 or 4 of these...sheesh.

True, especially for the 360 demographic. That blue one is really kinda.. bleck. Comparing the 2, I like the pink one better. Still don't know why they didn't go with red and green?!

It's funny that the headset comes with it. The headset being included is probably the reason WHY it's $10 too much. Oh well.
