Xbox Live - Totally thugged out?
Saint's Row is a particularly hilarious breeding ground for "thug" types. There was some kid on there saying he was going to, er, cap all us bitches, to which someone else responded "Nigga, you ain't gangsta!"
Yeah, I swear there is at least one jerk in every ranked game of Saint's row!

You know, I was playing Worms and some random guy said something like "Gears of war sucks, Worms is the shit!"

The sad part is that it's the suburban white folks who are empowering the black folks to think they are the shit. It's a perfect circle of hell.

You're going to catch a lot of shit for that sentiment...but you're largely spot-on. A lot of the inevitably 'indignant' types know you're right, too, and probably secretly agree. (EDIT II: I want to clarify that it's the hip-hop thug/ghetto superstar mentality that the "Pretty Fly For a White Guy" suburbanites are "empowering", not "black folks". That's too general, but I know what you meant...I hope.)

The problem with online 'communities' is that the negative element tends to strengthen itself by driving away everyone else, whether it's boorish behavior or the savant-like...or both*. A game comes out, most people are too civilized/diversified to be an anonymous asshole/play eight hours a day, so they just say "fuck it." Many just don't bother in the first place. Later, unsuspecting types wander into the broadband Warg pit, have an even worse experience than those that were there on Day One for a given game, and the concentration of those driving people off increases. Sooner than later, a given game then becomes essentially unplayable to anyone with any need for a pleasant experience.

I don't think Microsoft or Sony are ever going to do anything legitimate to minimize the influence of the riff-raff. I get the distinct impression, actually, that Microsoft in particular actually centers their marketing for Live around the trashtalk element. (EDIT: And if you've been paying any attention, they've been doing that from the beginnning.) And if they banned the assholes, there goes millions of dollars in yearly revenue, and believe me, that wouldn't be recouped with more people coming (back) to Live. The stigma is out there. The damage is done, and irreversible.

*--And cheating, where applicable.

Warg pit??

As already stated, isn't the mute player feature enough? What would you have XBL do, background checks on individual subscribers? Two tiered adult vs. Childeren xbl? Didn't the inventor of the internet (Sir blah blah blah) recently cite the fact that breaking the internet in two (by not respecting net neutrality) would destroy it. I'd be all for quicker action with respect to the complaints of the community against individual users via the review/complaint system.

Granted, you need a minute before the game starts to accomplish this in a big multiplayer game.

I will agree it's thugged out to a certain extent. Sports games are really tough to play online - mostly the disconnecter when losing kills it.

But I'd have to say I hate the white power faction of XBL more than the thugged out faction, as Bigotry offends me more than nonsensical jabbering.

"Now I don't want Mountain Dew, I want chocolate milk. I want the mother fuckin chocolate milk. Get it! GET IIIIITTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!"

Classic.
holy fuck!! a 9 year old?!?!?! WTF??

Man, if I heard my 5 year old nephew talk to his mom like that while playing a video game, I would go up to him and slap him in the face, then take his 360 away(if he had one).

If my (future) child said that to me or my wife, he would get a belting, or a bare kneeing on uncooked/raw rice (hurts like hell but you learn your lesson good).

Nothing pisses me off more on XBL than the pervasivness of racism. It sucks. Ill just mute people or if Im host (rare) boot them.

Sometimes when I feel frisky I'll just talk shit back.

To the OP, it does seem to me that the most prevalent/obnoxious are the "thuggish" types.

i remember when CS first added voice.. lol

great idea in theory... pretty stupid/retarded on public servers... thank god for the mute button

It's all bull crap in people's quest to feel special and unique.

It's all about respect, this and that, and the riff-raff that goes with people who are over pride-full.

The individual is usually smart and when you stick them in groups you get the mob thing going on, everyones gets riled up and it becomes a mess like xbox live is. The problem with mobs is no one feels special. So they make their presence more annoying, loud, or out rite obnoxious in hopes they will be special in the crowd, despite the low image they draw to themselves in the long run.
For better XBL, do the following:

2. Mute idiots and choose "avoid this player" on their profile. Optionally, file a complaint against them. Enough complaints will supposedly have consequences. This will make it much less likely that you will meet them again.
.
qft

I click on avoid player and will file complaints against them if they really piss me off. Maybe it is because I do this a lot, or maybe I have just been lucky, but I don't have that much of a problem playing on live. I usually only have 2 or 3 real life friends online with me so it isn't like there isn't the opportunity for us to get into a match with a bunch of assholed. I have added a bunch of people to my friends list from late night games of gears and rainbow 6.
Is that Chad Warden asshat for real?
Not that video, but this video of him is real:
Though I'm being biased and stereotypical, I'll go ahead and say that the majority of Asians know how to respect people. When you do meet that certain disgusting Asian, it's usually the "Asian Pride, worldwide, thug til I die I love Honda's" type of guy.

The worse kinds of people are:

-suburban middle-class white kids who think their shit doesn't stink

-black kids who think that they are the coolest people on earth.

The sad part is that it's the suburban white folks who are empowering the black folks to think they are the shit. It's a perfect circle of hell. I'm Asian and I listen to country, classical, and heavy metal (real American music) more than most white folks I meet. It seems that alot of white kids try to emulate the urban image by trying to be black...?

You can disagree with me but deep inside, you know I'm right. Go to any high school class and observe. The Asian kids know how to shut up until after class. The white kids talk but they shut up when they are told. The black kids never shut up.
Sounds like you're trying to be "white" according to your own rationale then. It also actually sounds like you think you're better then both white and black people. I dunno where you're from, but I've been in plenty of places where black people shut up and white people talk, and vice versa. I really hate the "person is trying to be such and such" a color, that's a very stupid generalization. I mean, I'm Asian, happen to like hip hop, but I don't run around acting like an idiot and what not. Should I be wearing traditional Asian clothing and banging a gong and saying "me so sorry" just so I can fit into the traditional Asian stereotype? I don't get it.
That being said, I hate stupid people on xbl, regardless of if they're a thug, hick, honkey, and any other stereotype you feel like inserting here.
Is that Chad Warden asshat for real?
I read an article where they said it was just a prank, but I don't know.

He pulls off asshat a little too well for me to accept it as a prank.

I've only been on live for two weeks and have been playing Worms. I've found most people to be okay and have only come across two 'pseudo-gangstas'.

Luckily, like Halo05 posts on the first page, i can't seem to hear people through my speakers.
I read an article where they said it was just a prank, but I don't know.

I can't comment on XBOX live but when I played Rainbow six on PS3, this black guy was like "get that white bitch upstairs" and "I got yo ass nigga". It was really annoying lol. Most of the time what people say is pretty funny, I think it adds a little something to the game because you and your friends can get a kick out of what people are saying.

And chad warden fuckin rules. I laughed my balls off when I saw his videos. His critique of Mario Party was awsome.

Most of these kids acting up on XBLA are total morons that live in sheltered communities. With their only exposure to the outside world being the urban trash they see on MTV.

In response to this thread I would say most of XBL is
-suburban middle-class white kids who are too cool
-and maybe the thugged out ppl you chat with just talk normal, if they don't change to a demenor you like, disconnect the headset :)
lol @ people taking chad daddy seriously
