Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Also, the review embargo is real. Gamespot posted a BF4 review on PS4, IGN posted a review of AC4 on PS4. No XB1 versions on both sites.
Polygon touched on this issue on their review of BF4. ["Microsoft has specified that review scores must be held until Nov. 12th at 9:00AM PST, and we were not given the opportunity to play the Xbox One version's multiplayer component."]

Bottom line is: BF4 doesn't blow the XB1 version away in terms of quality graphics, It's better but not blow your socks off better. However, if your going to go with a next gen console and *DO NOT* care about Microsoft's exclusives or the Kinect, the PS4 is the way to go. This has been the case pre-launch though, when we all knew PS4 had better hardware and was $100 cheaper (ignoring Kinect which everyone seems to ignore). Just Saiyan'.
Yeah if you only care about games.

I plan on getting both consoles as I have credit and gift cards to pay for most, my dilemma now comes with cross-platform games and which system to get.  Historically, I have ALWAYS bought the cross-platform on XBOX 360 over PS3, not sure about this generation for the early games like BF4 or COD.

I'm deciding solely based on which controller feels better (if performance is about the same). I love playing FPS games with my 360 controller. So, my plan is to try out the PS4 controller tonight. I hear it's compatible with OSX so I should be able to play a few FPS games. If I like it then I'll be buying most multi-platform games for PS4.

I really hope it doesn't or I'm going to hulk smash stuff. If I get my prestige edition on the cheap I might just go ahead and sell it. I want a shooter to play.

ps4 ghost videos came ot on ign and it looked like poop. when they say a new next gen engine it's complete horse junk. Only thing diff is that it allows pc version look like a game should on pc and next gen. Oh might i ad move parts on maps oh wait all that was in bf3 on 360/ps3.

Suprised no one posted this: TITANFALL NEVER COMING TO PS4 (and the Respawn guys don't seem happy, as this deal was clearly made without their approval or knowledge):

Titanfall an Xbox One, 360, PC Exclusive for Its 'Lifetime'

Not coming to PlayStation 4 then.

Update: Respawn's Vince Zampella tweeted in response to this news, "Always MS exclusive at launch, great partner and focus is good for a startup. EA made a deal for the rest, we only found out recently =("

Indeed, it sounds like Titanfall as a debut game will remain a Microsoft-platform exclusive, but the future of the franchise -- once Respawn is no longer a "startup" -- may make its way to PS4. The studio head added, "Of course we will [make PlayStation 4 games], just not the first Titanfall."

There you have it. Titanfall 1, not coming to PS4. Sequels? Totally possible. "Exclusive at launch," mind, refers to the first game, and not the future of the series.

During its quarterly earnings call today, EA squashed recent rumors about Titanfall coming to PlayStation 4. CFO Blake Jorgensen emphasized that Titanfall "is exclusive only for the lifetime of the title on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC."

Jorgensen also assuaged worries that Respawn was rushing Titanfall to market, declaring the intended release date was always in the March, April, May time frame. "No, we're not doing that at all," COO Peter Moore said on the subject of Titanfall's alleged hurry. He praised Respawn Entertainment's talent, and anticipates it will review "very highly" when it launches in March 2014.

I wouldn't say 'great.'  It's a smart move for MS but a baffling one for EA.  They had a game on their hands that could rival Activision's CoD and have just cut their user base in half for a money hat.

Personally it bugs me not because I have no interest in a $60 MP only game.  That and I'm not a fan of CoD which this clearly has in its roots.

I think if the thing really has legs it might be worth $60 as MP only, but it'd have to REALLY have legs, like if I ended up getting a Xbox One next Summer, are people still playing the shit out of Titanfall? With a few exceptions, even great MP games don't have a very long shelf-life because it's not long til something else comes along to grab everyone's attention.

if titan fall is anything like cod it will have legs for long time. Alot of people are hype for titan fall becasue the makers of cod games till after mw2 is making it. Most people consider mw1 and mw2 as the two best mp fps games. Lets be honest this day and age fps games that have story it's only like 5-6 hours long anways so you pretty much paying 60 bucks for mp.

It's still great for Microsoft since most people said that was the most anticipated game for them. Doesn't hurt to have it exclusive at all.

I do agree with that, we see it all the time now-Pointless awful MP shoehorned into single-player games, and crappy pointless short SP campaigns wasting resources and money that could be spent making an even tighter MP experience. That shit needs to change.

I disagree.  Even short campaigns have value if the MP community fails.  If it's MP only and fails the game is a coaster.  Shadowrun anyone? Brink?  You can always fall back on SP for your investment.

So I guess I'm saying 'tacked on' single player works because it adds value.  'Tacked on' MP typically adds nothing, as evidenced by dozens of games(Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Darkness, Prey, etc.) this gen.

Yeah, not really sure what they were thinking honestly. I dont believe Titanfall will sell COD numbers simply because its Respawn the same way LA Noire, Red Dead, and Max Payne didnt sell GTA numbers with a bigger named studio like Rockstar behind it. It may eventually get there, but definitely not the first game. Especially when removing other consoles out of the equation.

Great exclusive for Microsoft though.

Definitely a nice exclusive for MS that will move X1's.

No impact on my eventual purchase decision as I don't do competitive MP any more. Not sure I'll even do coop like Borderlands again as I just don't have the time/interest for those kind of time sink games.

I feel like all the Titanfall discussion is pretty overblown at this point. It's not like this is Halo or Uncharted. It's a new and unproven IP, and yes it looks very cool and has a lot of hype behind it, but who knows how big of a hit it's going to be. Everyone's treating it like it's the preordained "next big thing" but that's far from certain.

Besides, Titanfall 1 may be exclusive forever but in a couple years Titanfall 2 won't be. Especially with a multiplayer-only game, no one's going to care about the original anymore once the sequel's out.

You do know rock star made all those games right?

It's being hyped because it's made by the people that made two of the best fps games of all time. Does that mean it will be good... no but it has a chance to be amazing.

The game received some of the most positive reactions of any game played at E3 last year on either system from those who played it. This is potentially a very big deal and a system seller for MS in 2014 if it's as good as people indicated.

Shadowrun was awesome. It just wasn't your typical game, and had no support.

I think Titanfall can succeeding, but it has to be as BA as they are hyping it.

Hopefully MS will bring out the money bags again for the sequels.

Once upon a time all the modern powerhouse IP were also new and unproven. And early impressions strongly indicate that this is a case of more than just a pretty rendering engine. More than anything else, people are raving about the way the game plays and feels.

While I still feel Microsoft has an uphill battle in front of them, it was wise for them to lock down exclusivity on Titanfall. This could end up being the big franchise for them going forward. I do have to wonder if it will be enough to actually broaden their user base though. Even if Titanfall becomes the next big thing, it is still a multiplayer shooter. They can't have annual releases for a title like this without ruining the brand. The only reason they get away with this kind of strategy for Call of Duty is by including a single-player campaign. Titanfall could easily become a staple for Microsoft's gaming platforms, and it could sell well for years. But it's never going to be the profit monster that Activision's franchises are.

Maybe I'm being premature in that assessment. There are any number of ways that they could monetize a title like Titanfall, outside of the traditional boxed release schedule. Maybe Respawn already has plans for further expanding on the title down the line. I suppose we'll know for certain come March. Perhaps we'll all be going out and picking up XBox One's then.

What's an MCE for someone not familiar with every initial shorthand?
If I had to guess, I would say it has something to do with "Media Center." So possibly an XBox One won't be able to stream media directly from a Windows PC at launch. If that is the case, I wouldn't worry to much. That kind of functionality can easily be added down the line through a firmware update. If it is important to you, just get a 360 instead.

Apparently the permanent Titanfall exclusivity for Microsoft was a decision not made by the game's developer, Respawn, but by the games publisher, EA. That makes sense. Few, if any developers these days are keen to sign permanent exclusivity deals. Usually you have to purchase the developer outright in order to make such a call as a platform holder. The fractured nature of the market just makes it more advantageous for developers to have their game across as many platforms as possible.

But a publisher would be easier to sway using fat bags of money. And Microsoft has already made it clear that their first priority with the XBox One is partnering up with major game publishers.

Will the XBOX One support custom soundtracks? Can't believe the PS4 won't support MP3s. I use the custom soundtrack feature on the 360 all the time.
Pretty unreal. I just read what the PS4 can and can't do. I'm shocked.

Well most people in here who said they only wanted a game console and not the other stuff Xbox One offers definitely are getting what they wanted.

I used my 360 as a media extender up until one update that just seemed to nullify things and I haven't been able to stream stuff to my TV ever since. I have a laptop hooked up to it via HDMI now though.

Yeah on Titanfall, Major just posted this:

Larry Hryb ✔ @majornelson
Yes, @Titanfallgame game is exclusive. No, not a timed exclusive. It will only be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360 & PC
In case there was any question about it.
That's some chump change then.

game studios never make those kind of decisions

i know i got the ms points right away my guess is the email is the pre order stuff you get for pre order the game. Still says i get the ghost gun skins and 12 month live card on 5th.

There was MS points, and $5 point voucher we're supposed to get as well.

I'm waiting on the game, xbl 12mth, and the $5 vouch.

let me get this right rumor going around that bf4 runs at 720 p on x1 but it's 100 percent cod ghost is native 720 p . No way the 7 year old cod engine can not run 1080 p on x1. The answer to why it's not 1080 p is that iw was too lazy to program for x1 if it's true that it's harder to build games for. sorry had to get that off my chest seeing this kind of garbage has been going on for awhile with devs being lazy but expect us to pay 60 bucks for a game. This same thing happend with ps3 at launch seeing it was harder to build games for and just hope it do't last as long like it did for that system on x1.
