Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

I don't think that's a requirement to post on a message board. I've been here for many years, and seen many like you come and go. You come in a thread for something just to get a rise out of people, argue, then carry out that argument for no real reason other than to argue. It's pointless, boring, and pretty pathetic. No one cares that you don't care for the xbox one, that you want to pick fights with pro xbox trolls like timbo, and want to contantly point out that people are wrong, alright?
you jumping into random convo bashing him is not looking to start something? plzzzzzz

most of the time with me and deader we are not fighting with each other it's pretty much our opinions clashing and not mixing well with each other. i have no issues with him and respect him as a major forum user no hard feelings for him.

Ive made it clear before I don't really have an issue with Timbo as a person, just he can get flustered easily and sometimes doesnt convey his point correctly which I'm sure even he has said he does that a times.

i wonder if xbox one will auto update tommow morning with that new update or will happen next time i turn it on
Well it won't happen either.

@majornelson: FYI: The February #XboxOne System Update will ship this week, but not today. The team is working on finalizing. More details when I get them

http://majornelson.com/2014/02/11/more-details-on-the-multiplayer-and-party-updates-for-xbox-one-coming-in-march/

Some March update details:

Get to your friends list faster. The friends list will be front and center on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say “Xbox, go to Friends” to see who’s online and what they’re up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.

Party chat will be turned on by default. When you party up, chat audio will be turned on by default.

Chat with friends playing different games. Party chat will be separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.

We’re adding an “Invite friends to game” option to your multiplayer titles moving forward. Similar to Xbox 360 titles, this will appear inside a games’ menu and offer a simple and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting “Invite friends” will let you invite friends to your game and party.

We’re adding “Recent Players.” This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you’ve recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, or add new friends after your multiplayer battles.

Just heard the new Dead Rising 3 DLC launched today, wtf that was out of nowhere.

I really need to play that game again and get the Season pass, I wonder what delayed the first DLC so long if they could release the second episode so much faster.

well im a happy man now that's all the stuff i wanted..

well that makes since why i got home from work and nothing changed was worried my system was not updating right.

What happened to today's update? I don't see the "further details" we were supposed to get on Xbox Wire and Major Nelson's site doesn't acknowledge it at all, so I'm confused. I signed in with no prompt unless it was the faster update I've ever seen on Xbox Live.

It's not ready. They are finishing it up and it will be here by the end of the week.

Anyone check out the X1 stereo headset? The PS4's stereo headset is wireless and only $20 more. Major flub there by Microsoft.

The PR for the Stereo Headset is poorly written:

We’ve all been there: You want to play Xbox One games while your family sleeps soundly just down the hall or your roommates study for their finals. That’s why we’re so excited to announce the Xbox One Stereo Headset, which will allow fans to immerse themselves in their games and play at whatever volume they’d like.

Releasing across Xbox One markets worldwide in early March, the Stereo Headset will offer a premium audio experience for both game and chat audio. Offering a full-range (20Hz – 20kHz) audio spectrum to ensure fans can enjoy the deepest bass and the clearest high frequencies, the Stereo Headset will also feature a unidirectional microphone for clear voice capture and over-the-ear speakers to keep you comfortable during long sessions with your Xbox One. The Xbox One Stereo Headset will ship with a detachable Stereo Headset Adapter that puts all of the audio controls right at your fingertips. You can balance the game and chat audio levels to hear just what you want, control the master volume, and mute the microphone each with the touch of a button.

For our fans that already have a set of stereo gaming headphones they can’t live without, we’re happy to reveal that the Stereo Headset Adapter will also ship separately worldwide in early March. Volume controls on the adapter let you adjust chat volume levels and mute your headset’s microphone without taking your hands off the controller. Simply plug the adapter into your controller and connect your compatible stereo headset to enable fantastic chat audio – thanks to integration with Skype’s audio codec. Add in-game audio by connecting your headset to the back of the Xbox One or to your TV.*

The Xbox One Stereo Headset will retail for $79.99 MSRP and the Stereo Headset Adapter will be available for $24.99 MSRP.

Update Feb. 11 at 3:20 p.m. PT: We realize you might have some questions, so we hope this helps provide some clarification:

 • Legacy gaming headsets receive game audio from the back of the console from the S/PDIF port, and receive chat audio by connecting the 2.5 mm chat cable to the adapter.
 • New Xbox One Stereo Headsets receive chat and stereo directly from the adapter. There is no need to connect anything to the console.
 • Any 3.5 mm stereo headset (that uses the CTIA plug standard) can receive stereo game audio by plugging into the adapter.
*For use with stereo headsets with 3.5mm audio jack, or Xbox 360 gaming headsets with 2.5mm chat cable. Game audio available in stereo headsets by connecting directly to Xbox One via optical cable or TV via RCA cables (cables not included). Additional requirements may apply for full functionality, see xbox.com/xboxone/compatibleheadsets. Voice chat requires Xbox Live; in-game requires Xbox Live Gold (sold separately).

Yeah. I just want a wireless earpiece like the 360 had for chat and I'm good. I hope it's in the works and they don't just say "Kinect is wireless chat" F that.

You and me both. Not just to be rid of wires but I felt it was more comfortable too.

Does anyone have experience with the Astro A50 and/or the Astro MixAmp Pro?

With MS finally revealing how we can use other headsets for sound and chat with the Stereo Headset Adapter, I'm torn...

Clearly the A50 is wireless, which is a bonus. But they're also pretty pricey. With the MixAmp, less than half the price, you're wired, which is better fidelity-wise, and you can bring your own headphones - but chat will get wonky if your headset doesn't have a built-in mic.

I've got the ATH-M50x en route for audio engineering, so was thinking of saving a buck by mixing those with the MixAmp and maybe, somehow sneaking in the standard One chat headset under one ear.. but that just sounds like it'll be uncomfortable (and ultimately stupid, though probably great for non-mutliplayer).

Decisions, decisions...

I've never had the MixAmp Pro, but for now, I'm using the A50s on the One. It's worked very well and is a HUGE step up from my old X32s (obviously.) They're pretty comfortable even for bigger ears because the cups are quite large. It's not heavy either, so I'd say its worth it. I got them at $202 after an extra 10% off the sale price of $225. I think you can find a pair at $225.

I have had no problems chatting with Kinect for now, but that might just be me.

Been reading up on this headset adapter thing and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there.  I have a set of Turtle Beach X31s...will the adapter plugged into the controller allow for game audio to played in the headset?  Chat isnt a big deal for me, Im just looking to play games quietly without disturbing the kids and I'd love to be able to use the headset I already have!

Can't believe there's still no quality headsets out yet, would have expected everyone would have prepared to releases their's when the system came out, but it'll be almost 4 months after it came out before the headsets do.

Sucks cause I have $40 in Gamestop coupons and I just realized I could have gotten a headset except they expire February 28th.

They had to wait for the adapter to be released since it wouldn't make sense to release headsets that nobody could use.

Shame they didn't just pack-in the adapter with the system in the first place. Too bad there wasn't the same clamoring for the pack-in adapter as there was for the crummy (but functional) headset.
Unless your headset has optical audio it will not work with game audio. I have x12s and only has red/white audio cord sucks have to buy new ones
I had Logitech F540s. Just bought Astro A40s from the MS store.

I'm buying a optical switch, the PS4 chat cable, and xb1 adapter. I'll be good to go to use it on all 4 of my consoles.

Well, the Astro MixAmp just got here. Won't get an opportunity to put it through the paces until tonight.

After way-too-much research, I've narrowed down to two options: the Beyerdynamic MMX300 and the Sennheiser PC 360. These seem to outclass the Turtle Beaches and Astros of the gaming world, but are distinctly pricier on their own AND need a MixAmp-type product to function with the One (and other systems).

For now, will just take Zolor23's comment and work chat with Kinect.. no one seems to be talking during Titanfall much anyway.

I think some people were using a clip on mic or something

Aaron Greenburg has said this rumor is ridiculous, but of course he would:

Rumor: Amazon In Ongoing Talks To Buy Xbox From Microsoft
It's the latest crazy Xbox related rumor that we have to take seriously, because at this point, Microsoft could do anything.

A new rumor has propped up that Amazon is negotiating with Microsoft for the purchase of Xbox. The rumor comes from insider Famous Mortimer, aka Pete Dodd.

Two things. Titanfall launch show with @geoffkeighley. Have you announced that yet? Also, xbox bought by Amazon? Bookmark this.

— atFamousmortimer (@atPeteDodd) February 15, 2014

@muleyman79 @geoffkeighley The show that is. Microsoft is looking to dump xbox. Amazon is looking for gaming assets. Talks have started.

— atFamousmortimer (@atPeteDodd) February 15, 2014
The most amazing thing about this is that Pete brought it up out of nowhere on Twitter, in the process of striking a conversation with Geoff Keighley about his upcoming Titanfall coverage. Pete is basically tweeting like it’s nothing, basically showing off he’s 100 % sure talks are ongoing.

There are two elements to this rumor that makes it worth your time: one, that there is pressure within Microsoft to sell Xbox, and two, that Amazon is looking to invest into gaming more heavily.

We have already covered this talk about Microsoft spinning off or selling Xbox before. To cut a long story short, the pressure comes from investors like ValueAct, who have become impatient with MS’s consistent underperformance. They argue that Microsoft should focus on their strengths, and Xbox (among their other devices, like Surface) simply do not play to their strengths.

Regarding Amazon, there have been several indication that they are interested in entering the gaming market in a big way. The talk of a new Android- based microconsole was already squashed. However, they did recently purchase Double Helix Games. There is also another rumor that continues to enjoy credibility, that Amazon is readying a competitor to Roku and Apple TV. Speculation is that this set-top TV could be expanded to an Xbox One type device.

Would Microsoft sell Xbox? Under an entirely new management structure, and the pressure to perform, this would be a minor decision for the company to make. Would Amazon buy Xbox? They went to Oracle and Lab126 for development of Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, respectively, and Lab126 is also reportedly working on that set-top box.

However, their purchase of Double Helix means Amazon is not shy about throwing their money around for their gaming ambitions, and buying Xbox, with its R&D division, means they won’t have to invest into building one from scratch.

One final thing; in spite of the Kindle, Amazon still sells iPads and other tablets, and they still sell retail music discs even though they sell DRM-free mp3s. So if Amazon entering consoles ever did come to pass, it would not be the end of their business with Playstation and Nintendo.

They do have a good server hosting system in place. Maybe if gold included Prime it wouldn't be all bad... I still doubt this rumor, though.
With the Double Helix rumor/whatever I kind of do not doubt there is atleast talks. However it amounting to anything is another story.
A talk could easily amount to:
Amazon: can we buy Xbox from you?
Microsoft: no.
Amazon: Ok, thanks for talking to us.
;-)

Yeah, I'd be a lot more behind that because Amazon has the serious resources for them to rely on, I have heard the Xbox might become it's own thing which would worry me a ton. I would like to state that although I am the one mostly posting these sell-off articles, I think the likelihood is low, it would be a bad pr move for MS when they desperately need some good pr.
Unfortunatly, No
I could see it being a problem with gaming, though. At least in those cases you can still get amazon video, mp3s, and Kindle apps on other devices. Even apps in the case of Android. Amazon doesn't make much many if any off their Kindle, but in the services they offer. So unless they would plan on making Halo on Wii U and Gears on PS4 it isn't a perfect direct comparison.
