Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

I can't see them ditching Kinect it's too core to the experience they want to show people.

Games wise aside, the UI is a lot easier to use through Kinect, not to mention they would need to put out new accessories that didn't rely on kinect like the media remote.

Yep, im totally trolling. I just don't personally think we will see any amazing games that really make use of the kinect. The kinect is great for non gaming things, not so much for gaming.

But yep, having an opinion is trolling. Sorry.

they will only ditch the kinect, if the sales number does not meet their expectations. unless i am mistaken, you can still play non-kinect required games, and operate the xbox one without kinect, or having it turn off.

you're correct. You don't need to have the kinect connected to the system for it to work. Though the UI is a little cumbersome to use without it but that could always be fixed with an UI update if they ever wanted to go that route.

I know all of you early adopters are probably enjoying Titanfall at the moment. But could I trouble some of you to try out the Project Spark beta and tell me what you think? I'm far more interested in Project Spark, and the beta is now open to all.

I downloaded it but keep forgetting about trying it out. Do you have Windows 8.1? I have a beta code for the PC version you can have if you want.

 
Major Nelson interviews Mark Whitten as it starts at the 20:50 mark on Major Nelson Radio.

He explains they were just learning when the launched the original Xbox, they wanted to increase everything on Live and Party chat for Xbox 360 and up to Xbox One.

Im not saying things just to piss people off and start fights. Im just giving an opinion on an open forum thats about discussion. Nothing im saying is event slightly offensive, lol.

If people seriously think im trolling then a lot of people are overly sensitive.

I do think people get irritated with the opinion you expressed because it is the same thing over and over. Usually I find it tends to come from people basing it on the 360 kinect and having never used the features kinect offers on One. If you go back a few pages you'll see a long drawn out argument/discussion on the topic. Not calling you out, just giving an idea why people might jump down your throat.

Curious if any One owners have sold off their Kinect, and if so are you enjoying it? I'm tempted to get the Titanfall bundle and sell the Kinect to lower the price of entry even further. Can't for the life of me imagine actually using it. Just curious if anyone here is doing what I'm thinking of and enjoying their One.
 
I did this. I bought the console at launch and tried out the Kinect for 3 months. While the voice commands, in game chat capabilities and recording features are nice. I don't really need it. I traded in my launch console to gamestop for the Titanfall bundle for no cost out of pocket. I sold the Kinect as new on ebay for 100 bucks.

I'm guessing you can't record in game video without the kinect?

who would buy the x1 kinect when every system comes with one? it does not work with pc seeing the port is made just for x1 system.

I was thinking the exact same thing but there are people selling console only so you have to buy the hdmi,controller and kinect separate to complete the console so it kinda makes sense.
 
Is there really a market for the kinect?  It comes with every system why would people be buying them?  I might try and sell mine if so.  I used it for about 30 minutes when I first plugged in my X1 then put it back in the box and I doubt I'll ever use it again.

I looked into it before I sold it and ebay had a steady supply of new and used Kinects since launch. I don't see it changing. I had a talk with Microsoft support and you can buy one directly from them, but idk for how much. The person on chat wanted me to call support for a price.

I know that 450 price tag is a steal, but I made I promise to myself that I would get an Xbox either when I had more than enough money or around e3 in the hopes that there is a price drop. 

I could buy it right now but I would literally be close to being broke.

 
I know that much, but I want it so bad  :whistle2:(. So I'll have to hope that the titan fall bundle will be available for the next 2 to 3 months

That is a very good point, that is a possibility. E3 2010 was funny because they unveiled the Xbox 360S model and then gave everyone in attendance one. I listened to an old Games Radar's podcast Talk Radar and one of the hosts, Bret Elston, had just gone out and bought the Xbox 360 with the Final Fantasy hard drive and wasn't in attendance. That's possible, maybe a reason for the deals going on now, but I highly doubt it as the S model came out a long time after the other 360 models were out. You can look at the graph below for when Microsoft launched each console.

Yeah I think I remember that e3, but odd's are I'll still have to shell out 500 bucks plus taxes to get a xbox. Still it'll be worth it :D/ .

Thanks for the graph too! It reminded me that I got my 360 around the same time I'm hoping to get my xbox.

Dongles are easy to change. I haven't looked into it, but I heard the kinect 2.0 is really good when adapted for PC when they hacked early ones. 1.0 was far more useful on PC than 360 so I could see computer savy people figuring out a way to require the dongle and make it great for PC
 
I was also in the "not buying until X happens" club. Fortunately, for me X equalled either price drop or Titanfall bundle. After gift cards, cost me under 440 on Amazon. I guess if I didn't get it on Titanfall launch day I could have saved another 50 but whatever. Eventually the waiting game becomes the only game you actually play if you just keep holding out.

Happy with the purchase so far. I just have Titanfall & Peggle 2 right now, will buy KI when it eventually goes on sale. May grab Tomb Raider once the price goes down since I skipped it last year. At least some features of Kinect have mildly won me over as far as navigation, which pretty much shocks nme.

When I'm playing Ghosts, and I try to open apps such as Friends, Upload Studio, etc. they lag really bad. Any other game, it's fine. The apps starting working fine when I kill the Ghosts game, anyone know why it's this specific game?

Will be the last console/handheld I ever buy after launch. Won't have to worry about launch reliability and can save more money in the long run.

If you told me in November I could wait less then 6 months and save $100 *AND* get Forza for free I would have waited. After April's update the X1 will have everything I ever wanted of the system feature wise outside of BC (which will never happen outside of the possiblity of their Gaikai like service, which ends up charging you for BC anyways) and external software storage (will happen in the long run obviously and they said it would).

It's totally worth $400 and I feel the exclusives, console or otherwise, are still better this year on the MS side vs what Nintendo and Sony have to offer (subjective of course), Tomb Raider being the only big superior multi platform title because I'm not seeing the big differences between 900p and 1080p, but that's just me.

 
Good ol Walmart.  Store by me just put out their pre-order cards for the Day One Editions of Ryse, Dead Rising 3 & Forza.  Really curious to see what happens when I try to order it.
