Xbox One on the way. DRM removed, more details to come.

I think thanks to CAG we will always see cheap Live. How often have we seen $30 for a year of PS+? I know just recently I got a year of Gold for $20.
Thanks to CAG I bought many years of PS+ at 14.38 each.

You're also comparing sales for a paid service required for MP and an optional "rental" style service. Go ahead and compare the prices and sales when they both are mandatory for MP.
Unless I missed something or something changed recently, PS+ is required for Mp now. The only thing it isn't required for are MMO games.

Guys I have both and prefer XBL

The entertainment is a huge plus for me. All of the apps the addition of Skype the look and feel. The switching to live TV that they announced. All of that really appeals to me. I'm sorry that upsets some of you.

I would rather have all of that than some free games that I can't guarantee I'm going to like or when they will start giving them away on the PS4 and a service that is a pipe dream right now.

And when it comes to the headset, I didn't dodge. I said in my original statement that all headsets with a micro USB input would work and that there was talk of an adapter so old headsets would work.

I honestly can't believe that many of you were that into the X360 when you are against it now and all of its features. Sounds like a lot of PS trolls to me.

I own both and will probably own both by this time in the life cycle of the next gen.

Yeah that pay wall is called XBL Gold...
Not really worried about the headset.

And way to compare retail sales for XBL to a clear exploit if a Target ad misprint to back up a point. You continue to ad useful arguments

Live has way more value than PS+ and I am a 2 years subscriber of +. There have been a few decent games on there pre-E3 but the better service was the UK service.

Oh well. Just my opinion. But don't compare pricing based on an ad exploit.
You are really letting your bias get to you. I don't believe he was comparing price per se, he was just mentioning a price he paid for plus because of this wonderful website we are posting on. And now you're going to fault getting a deal because it was on a Sony product. You're comments are becoming silly at this point. And duh on Gold being the paywall, when we talk Xbox and paywalls thats obviously implied.
And guess what... PS+ is now a pay wall! Congrats!

It's an exploit not a deal. Sony had no part in that. Thank a graphic designer at an ad company that used the wrong stock image. Which by the way was only honored for a short period of time ie 6-8 hours.
No one should pay for multiplayer on any console ever. I think MS should have free multiplayer. WTF are they doing charging?

I dont know, that doesnt upset me. I dont know shit about Live because I've never bought it. So from my perspective all I see is that you can play your games online. That's the only benefit of it I know of.

For things like Netflix and any other additional apps I think paying extra for any of that is silly. Why people let them get away with paywalling that shit is beyond me. If Sony did/does something like that they can fuck off as well, though they've said that they aren't.

Yeah thats what I meant by the bold, PSN is still currently free and PS+ is optional. When both are mandatory next-gen then we can line them up side by side and see who wins.

We know you prefer XBL, but you gave no reason why other than your preference.

So next-gen entertainment features is how you got so much value out of live the past years?

An adapter that will most certainly not be free if it does ever surface, still means they won't work as they do now.

Yes the entire package to me is more valuable than what I get out of PS+. You can't hate on me for that. I have my reasons why I like it better.

And we're you upset when your PS2 controller didn't work on the Ps3 and you had to be another new second controller?

This is what happens with next gen. You have to buy new accessories. Seems to me like you are grasping at straws...

1) Still no reasons.

2) A deflection

3) Excuses.

I have Netflix on my iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, MacBook, 2 of my televisions, my PS3 and my 360.

My Netflix is not behind a pay wall.

What the hell are you talking about. I justified what I was saying and said they were making an adapter troll on.

Yeah, I couldn't give a shit less about streaming apps on consoles.  They're too noisy (maybe the 1 and/or PS4 will be better though) and I don't want any extra wear and tear on my consoles.

I do Netflix and Amazon streaming at my place on my Bluray player, and we have a Roku box at my girlfriend's place.  My consoles get used for gaming and that's it.

No what I am saying sweetie is that I not behind a paywall for Netflix. If you are using the 360 just to watch Netflix you're pretty stupid. You are fighting over minutia!

I own both an Xbox 360 and PS3. The only benefit XBL Gold gives me is fast downloads and cross game chat. The multiplayer on PS3 and Xbox Live feels the same for me. I do like the multimedia apps that the xbox offers which I use sometimes. You know it's stupid when they even block internet explorer from XBL Silver members. I'm also not that big of a fan on buying a subscription(XBL Gold) to access your other subscriptions(netflix, amazon, hulu, etc..).

With PS+, I pay the same price for one membership across 2 devices(I own a Vita). It is optional, I can drop it whenever I like, and when I resume my subscription, previous PS+ games will be back. By paying that $50 a year, I at least will have amassed a good library of games every year, and have something to show for with that money spent.

If Microsoft removed the multiplayer part out of gold and into silver. I wonder how many people would pay extra for the "access" to multimedia apps, cross game chat, and internet explorer...

You are behind a pay wall on your 360 was my point, and nobody said anything about only using anything to watch Netflix. I see this is pointless. Enjoy your Xbox One.

I don't think people can let others like what they want.

I like the experience on my X360 is way better to me than the XMB on the PS3.

Sweetie? Ok. We're done here.

 I thought that was the nicest thing I could say!

Oh wow at the Family Plan revelation.

Your "family" could only download and play the game for 60mins before prompting them to purchase the game themselves.

Basically a 1 hour trial.

Details were anonymously posted in a pastebin but known insider CBOAT confirmed the rumor.
Man, I would have loved if they revealed this before the whole DRM drop. The outrage would have given me life . Seriously though, how is this even considered "sharing"? Its just a 1 hour fucking demo, no wonder they kept all the details to themselves. And to think people were really hyped for this feature, and were sad when MS killed it.

You're right it is personal preference. And if you like the experience better on Xbox that's great. I like a lot of the XBLA games better than PSN games. I like the download speeds and the console version of the store better on Xbox. So yeah there's definitely some good things about it.

I think people (like me) are having a hard time letting others "like what they want" when it comes to the Xbox One because of all the negatives. I basically don't want people to put up with any bullshit because of what it will mean for me in the future.

Like you said it's your personal preference, and I respect that. May I ask why you don't like PS+ as much? Do the games Sony give away not interest you? Uncharted 3, XCOM, Sleeping Dogs, Spec Ops, etc... sound pretty good to me. :)

I'm sure Sony would had caused a shitstorm if they took away the monthly free games and just charged for multiplayer on PS4. Also Microsoft helped a little with the whole used game restriction/drm.

Put that up against the lineup in the UK and it was much better. It's a great service. My sub just ran out and I lost all of the games I have downloaded. :(

Definitely a drawback but I understand why they do it. I think it is a great service. I just like all that I get on Xbox better than a ton of games because I use my console for way more than just games.

I am just curious to what you get for upgrading to + on the PS4 other than MP at launch.

To me though to answer your preference + was just about free games that I could add to my backlog and because we didn't really have a say in what we would get for free I would go two or three months without getting a game for free I was interested in. And even then it was a game I played already  Sleeping Dogs, Spec Ops etc :)

Right now I'm playing the hell out of Last of Us and State of Decay on 360.

Yeah we dodged a bullet with the family share. With CBOAT confirming and the below evidence...

What's funny is that they DID hint at this. In an obfuscated way. We just never noticed.

Remember when the DRM was first revealed? The easiest complaint was "What if I wanted to take it to my friend's house?"

Remember the response?

Quote:
Those gamers that happen to be using a friend’s Xbox One console will only be allotted 1 hour of playtime before they must hop online.

or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library.

We just glossed over that because we figured, during the PEAK of the "24 hour check" freakout, that 1 hour offline for visiting a friend was just more shit on the cake.

Nope.

That was the max amount of time a friend could play a copy. Period

It was in front of our face the whole time. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=65184146&postcount=48
LOL it was in our face the whole time.

Well....when the Xbox 360 first go streaming there weren't really any other devices other than PC that had it. At that point it made sense. It's been years since it made any kind of sense to have gold for Netflix though.

They announce paid multiplayer for the PS4 and you guys are giving me shit.

True but like I said with Gaikai not launching until some time in 2014 Drive Club may be the only game to come out for + right off the bat.

Same with the X1 and Killer Instinct.

Would you pay for it if it was just MP?

Exactly htz I think they saw an easy way to migrate the folks that were not + subscribers over to that side by folding MP into the subscription.

We still don't know for sure if MS will continue to offer free games at a later time on the X1 like they are doing til the end of the year. If that goes well they could do the same and who would blame them. I would be all for it! :)

Interesting interview with Pachter talking about that he sees the playing field level now and that they will both tie coming out of the gate in 5 months.

No way.

Edit: I might if Sony can match Microsoft's server download speeds and can provide interruption free maintenance.

There is nothing worse than downloading a game of 6 gb's or higher for a few hours and then having to hold up your system for another hour or so to install the damn thing. I hate that so much! :whistle2:(

I like my silent and near instant AppleTV better for stuff like that.

It's one thing for controllers. Outside of the Wii/WiiU, most systems use brand new controls. A headset is a headset. The XBox One headset is no real different from any of the standard PC headsets on the shelf except for the connector.

I could probably shave 15-20 minutes off that with a XBL download for a 6GB game, mostly because on the xbox 360, it installs as it downloads. I don't really mind the download speeds on PSN due to the free nature of it. I would expect faster downloads for PS4 though.

Sort of back to the subject, I have seen some emboldened gamers in social media now saying that the next target should be pitching a fit to get Kinect removed (not as much for tinfoil hat stuff, though I'm sure that's there, but for cost reasons).  Do people think this is feasible?  Would Microsoft ditch Kinect before or shortly after launch if sales were still slow?

More importantly, is this sort of thing good? is Microsoft just a spineless, directionless company or is this sort of forward thinking in itself, being hyper-reactive to customers?  What if fans also want 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB, or don't like the fixed hard drive?  Will we as consumers basically design the Xbox Two through Twitter feedback?

Consumers will get what consumers demand. If you (and many other people) spoke out and said ditch the Kinect or we're out, they would remove the Kinect. Fortunately at the moment the people still have the power. It's just hard to get them to use it to get anything done.

I think it is kind of a waste of time to convince Microsoft to remove Kinect from Xbox One. If you can't afford it now, wait for a price drop.

But I personally don't want the Kinect though and it seems like Microsoft will encounter bigger issues later relating to Kinect.

So when did PS+ give away free games... Last I checked, you pay to join the service.  In order to keep rent these games, you continue to pay.  Once canceled, everything is gone (unless you pay again).

What did free online give playstation users... Month+ downtime... terrible download speeds... lack on online community (i.e. vocal)... questionable day 1 online play of big name titles like Call of Duty (i.e. servers down, laggy, etc)... personal information stolen...

With PS4 having a pay service, maybe Sony can finally step up their Online game...

i don't mind paying for live or ps plus if it gives us better servers im all over it. ps3 servers were awful slow in downloading anything plus that don't include the install time.

What do you expect for $4.17 per month?

A good library of games, cloud storage, beta invites, up to 75% off discounts, free 1 hour game trials, automatic updates. One price across 3 platforms. The cloud storage and discounts are worth the $4.17 per month alone, hence why I consider the "free games" a bonus. If I don't like it I can still play multiplayer for free.

Sure we had a 1 month downtime but we got free games out of it. Sony didn't owe us anything cause online access is free for everyone, they did extend the memberships of PS+ members by 3 months. I don't mind the mic-less community(it's like having every game auto-mute  ) and that isn't even true unless you solo(Play with your friends or clan). I do admit the download speeds are bad(not so bad you don't feel like downloading anything on it) compared to XBL but it's free. All big multiplayer games have issues day 1 whether on PSN or XBL.

If you have saw what PSN was like in 2007, and compare it to today. I would say they have really stepped it up and in some cases like PS+ I personally think have surpassed XBL in value. They just need to work on the download speed and interruption free maintenance(You can play multiplayer games now during some of them where it was down for everything before). Cross game chat is already available for Vita and will be coming to PS4.

Edit: As for personal information stolen, Sony provided everyone a 1 million dollar insurance policy for 1 year. It has been 2 years since the hack and none of my information was misused. I can't say the same for Microsoft seeing how they handled the rrod issues. They didn't even give us a 3 year extended warranty until a class action lawsuit was filed.

You do realize that 3rd party multiplayer games use the same peer to peer connections on both systems? So with that statement we can assume you're just collecting myths found over the internet and not true experience. Also there was a huge problem with live accounts stolen, why do you think they added the second layer of protection? Microsoft has had it's share of downtime, etc, etc. Point is for paying the 100s of dollars you have over the last 8 years has the benefits of those features been valuable to you? If yes then good on you. I personally quit paying for Gold back in 2009 after paying for it since launch and played all my multiplats on PS3 ever since and haven't missed it. Only reason I'm gold now is because I snagged a free month (thanks cag) before E3 in case they offered up some free gold goodies, and sadly all we got was Fable 3.

Edit: Great post htz. Agree with everything you said and great point about the downtime, Sony gave us 2 free retail games for the mess, and not just 2 old crappy games, they let us chose from a list and sent the retail disks, thats where I got my copies of Infamous and Little Big Planet. They also gave us a fee month of PS+ which is when I first experienced it and have been a subscriber since.

Also want to note that just in February right around the PS4 reveal, sitting in my iPS3 nbox was a free 10$ PSN credit. Sony gave that to PS+ subscribers for no other reason than to say thanks and make you excited to want to own their next product they were about to reveal. Microsoft never does stuff like that!! And maybe that's why I see Sony as a company that has compassion for it's customers and I see Microsoft as this sleazy company that is just looking for any angle to milk more money out of it's loyal customers.

I want the kinect and am ok with the $499 price to include it.

I highly doubt they will ditch the kinect. I want to be able to say Xbox on and switch from live TV to Ryse by voice etc. I like those features. And with the kinect bundled into every console I think developers will utilize it more. I preordered Rivals as well.

Lay off Major. He did what he had to do. If that was my company I would have done the same thing and defended the product. That's his job. Quit being assholes (generally speaking here) and taking it out on these folks. It was like when the X1 was announced and everyone called and harassed the customer support teams. This is so childish. And every time they put something up on Facebook even now people act like assholes. It's so disturbing. I understand being upset and having a voice but Jesus.

What do you get out of bashing the X1 if you are such a PS fan? I know you had the 360 but it sounds like you have been 100% Sony since 09.

We're you even considering an X1 or do you enjoy battling folks on the Internet?

I know that...

But I am sure you have seen all of the bashing with Major and can guarantee that is what the post was to incite. That's all I am saying.

Heh, almost forgot about that nice gesture from Sony. They also did it for those that don't have PS+.

^Microsoft couldn't even give a dollar on your birthday.

Man fuck this...

Honestly what the hell does it matter? You don't like MS? Fine don't buy an X1 and leave folks alone who do want one. What's the big deal. All I have been trying to say is I am going with what I prefer. Not going to win and not looking to just mutual respect. Honestly I don't even know how this thread is still active and what purpose it is serving.

At least he's a good sport about the whole thing.

Way better than that Angry Joe idiot from Reddit.
I totally agree

Why do you take everything we say as if it was a direct attack on you?

Major Nelson is laughing it off, so I don't think you should take it as serious either.
