You might need a memory card or an Xport to transfer your stuff. I don't know the exact process, but if you know someone that makes rosters for sports games, it's something like that. You can't get your achievements back though.

I've had the same problem. My best piece of advice is to just keep the warranty, and not even bother with Microsoft customer service, unless you really need the money back. I've tried contacting them several times about this same issue, only to be told that the 3 year warranty only covers those consoles that have ALREADY experienced the RROD. When telling the CSR that this was incorrect, all I've received is, "I work for Microsft, you must have heard wrong, trust me I know." Evidently Microsoft CSR's don't know what they're talking about, or else they would have known about the press release and wouldn't have given me the wrong information. However, as stated before, it DOES only cover the RROD, so it's probably best to have the 2 year warranty, just in case something else does fail. If you do call, good luck receiving any help at all. May you be luckier than I was.
 
Or, if you're on a Mac, you could say "screw Vista", and download Connect360. Works like a charm, and with a little searching, you'll even find a registry key.
 
I have a desktop a few feet away from my 360(in my room) which is connected by a wireless usb adapter. Could there be a way to bridge connections with the wireless, taking the signal and sending it to the 360?
 
Connect the 360 and the hard wire network card together with a crossover ethernet cable. Go into network connections, right click on your wireless adapter, select properties, click the advanced tab, check the box "enable internet connection sharing." Done.

I'm not sure that would work. I think you can transfer profiles themselves from hard drive to hard drive, but not the data from one profile to another within the same hard drive.

i am gonna get a 360 within a next month or 2 and i have quite a few questions and suggestions to ask of the CAG goers:

with TV shows and Movies on Xbox Live Marketplace i've heard its basically like a rental movie and you dont keep it permanantly, is this true or not?
 
Go get the first two Halo's. Hold off on Stranglehold. I recommend just renting BioShock, unless you really want to play through it multiple times.

I like my BB warrantee, but you may have trouble getting them to let you keep your HD and stuff, plus replacing it through them might mess up your MS warrantee: I dunno.

Answer to your last question: yes, that is true for movies, but not for TV shows. TV shows you keep.

i see, i may check out the demo of Bioshock and see if i'll like it, it seems kinda retarded you cant keep the movies when you have to pay 800 Microsoft points, thats basically for 8 bucks when you can get movies from that Redbox thats in alot of grocery stores for a buck a night
 
If you have a Costco nearby, definitely get one from them. I know it's en vogue around here to buy extended warranties but they're a waste of money if you use a credit card to pay. Many Visa, Mastercard and Amex cards add a year of warranty to the manufacturer's warranty. Check your card benefits to find out for sure.

That said, Costco may be a little more expensive and/or offer less in the way of pack-ins or extras, but their return policy is worth its weight in gold. Essentially, if your 360 EVER breaks, take it back. They give you a refund in the full amount you paid. So when the Xbox 540 comes out and your 360 is dead, just return your dead 360 and get a 540 or whatever.
 
you don't pay 800 points for movies. That would be 10 dollars.

It is 240 for standard defination and 360 for high def on most movies.

^heh, I kinda bought 9600 points (6 1600 point cards) from that CC sale about a month ago; haven't input them yet though. Just anticipating some ridiculous pricing from Rock Band.
 
Anyone else "missing" GBs? I know that essentially there's about 12-13 GBs for us to work with, but when I do the math mine add up to only 9! I've deleted all unsed games saves, demos, videos, etc. Ideas anyone?
 
Question about the Pro vs Elite.. Has 20gb ever really hindered anyone? I have around $250 in GS credit and want to make the purchase. I'm leaning towards the Elite, but I'm unsure if its really worth the extra $100 that can be used for games or accessories.

Define "hinder". There's nothing the 20gb prevents you from doing, no. If you like to download a lot of demos or buy a lot of video content it will get annoying, yes. $100 worth of annoying though? Probably not. Especially when you can buy something like an XSATA for about $40.
 
Well I guess a better way to put it is, for current owners, would you say the extra room is worth it? I plan to download a lot of stuff, I have a lot of XBL points saved up from various sources and as a new user I would probably go nuts on all the demos. I would prefer not to have to swap out saves or redownload content when I plan to use it, so thats why I'm leaning towards the Elite.
 
I wish I had more room on mine.

Now, once Dec 4th hits, I get to use my extended warranty and get $400 back. I look at it as, do I use $50 towards a new game, or do I spend $50 and get 100GB extra. That's the decision I'll have to make, but I'm leaning towards spending the money.

Saves aren't the problem. The biggest problem for me is full game demos, which are sometimes over a gig each. If you plan to buy video content you won't be happy either. XBLA demos are too big a deal, for the game more than a couple months old they're all under 50 megs each.

It does sound like in your case the $100 would be worth it for you.
 
I got my 360 last Christmas and have had issues with it freezing up on me pretty regularly. It is not having problems with any particular game and I haven't really minded, but it really got on my nerves playing Bioshock last night. It froze up 4 times in about 30 minutes. Is it overheating or something? What's wrong with my 360 and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

Please I have played through two straight thunderstorms. Three times I have gotten the three red rings and I didnt give a sh*t. I just pushed the power button and turned it back on no problems. About the HDD. I have the 20gb and never have any problems with space.

I'm trying to figure out how to get my 360 online, and I know pretty much nothing about this stuff. Our internet connection is Verizon DSL, we just have one modem connected to our PC. The 360 is on the other side of the house. I think my options are basically, get a router and a 30' ethernet cable running through the house, or get the $100 MS Wireless Adapter.

OK, so if I go wireless, what else do I need besides the adapter? Do I still need a router of some kind?

I can't just get some kind of splitter for the phone line in the room with my 360 and run the included ethernet cable to that, can I?

Pay the extra $50.00, and get an Elite. I owned the Premium for about... 3 days, and I could already see the 20 GB being quite limited considering the average size of a 360 demo is around 600 MB to 1 GB large. I haven't bought any videos, but right now they have the first episode of Heroes in HD for free and it's over 2 GBs large alone!

Also, do you plan on hooking your 360 up via HDMI? As the premium does not come with an HDMI cable.

If you go the wireless route, you're still going to need a wireless router.

If you decide to string a 30' ethernet cable through your house, I'd still suggest picking up a wireless router as you'll be set in case you ever want to get your DS/PSP/Wii online, or even a laptop. You never know what the future will bring. :D

The $100 Microsoft wireless adapter is not your only option for wireless Xbox Live. Any ethernet or USB wireless "gaming adapter" (meaning no software, strictly plug and play) will work.

The 20GB (actually more like 14 or so) harddrive is not a problem for me. Demos get old, and I generally delete them when I'm bored with them - the only one I've kept is Battlefield 2, and that's only because it's not on the MP anymore. Downloading episodes of TV shows that I can't take with me just doesn't appeal to me. If Microsoft's planned DVR thing ever takes off, then I'll probably upgrade, but as a casual user, I've never even come close to filling the harddrive.

So it has to be a "gaming adapter?" Is there a way to pre-configure a standard cheap USB wireless adapter (like for a laptop) and then plug it into the 360 (oh, and have it work?)?

I'd really be interested in hearing exactly what people have successfully used in place of the MS wireless adapter, but have not found a discussion of that topic here. Any suggestions on where to look?
 
What the hell is going on?


Every single demo I try to download won't download. Stranglehold, MOH, now the COD4 Beta...this is ridiculous and its started ever since I got my refurbished 360 from M$ (assholes). Why is it doing this?
 
Maybe all those demoes are rated M for Mature. Your account might not allow you do download Mature content.
 
So just like the title says, I'm getting rid of my 360 and I want to know how to clear everything of my drive, no CC #'s no nothing. How do I do this?
 
I also think if you've ever used the transfer kit, it wipes things out as well... (I'm not sure though...)

But since it's tied to your XBL account, it should be okay once you nix the account.
 
I'm going to buy an HDMI premium 360 in the next week or so. I'm going to get it at Walmart because I know someone who works there and they can get me a 10% discount. I'm not getting a warranty, I think the 1 year/3 year warranty from MS is good enough. I'm also going to buy a play and charge kit and get some of the earlier games off of ebay. I have a few questions:

Would it be safe to travel with the 360? I travel between my parents' houses every weekend and I usually pack a console in my backpack. I've done this with my PS2, Gamecube, and Dreamcast and only the PS2 has broken on me (DRE). This may or may not have been because of the traveling. I know the 360 is a fragile machine and is just waiting to break. I don't want to risk breaking it and going weeks without it rather than just not playing it for a day or two. At the same time though, I usually have the most time to play videogames on the weekend.

I can put music from my MP3 player (Rio Karma) onto the 360's HDD, right? Is it an easy process?

I have my laptop hooked up to wireless internet by using a USB adapter. Is it possible to hook the 360 up to the laptop and use it as a wireless bridge? I've read different answers to this question.

Any other advice or help would be appreciated. :D
