Your 2006 BCS National Champs: Texas Longhorns aka Vince Young and Co.
I stopped watching when USC went up by a couple of TD's or so, but then came back and surprisingly saw UT on top. I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED IT! Vince Young is the next Randall Cunningham though, only better.
I gave in to exhaustion and fell asleep with about 3 and a half minutes to go in the game... fortunately my horse sense woke me up with 40+ seconds to go so I got to see Young's TD run.
I still can't believe Texas won. It was a very well played game but the ref's were the worst I have seen in years.
I'm sure all the analysts and so forth continue to bring up the TD pass Young threw in the 2nd quarter with his knee touching the field...

Dont solely blame the refs here, had Lendale White converted that two yard run the game's over. Had Texas stopped Vince Young from running it in at the end of the game, it's over. USC just didn't make the plays when it counts, and that's what makes a champ.

That game was one of the best i have seen in a while. Young should def go pro now he is just lie cpepp but better. If anaylysts want to refer to that td pass that should not have been a pass(because it was not it never was a pass td in the book) they can also refer to a play where usc(dont remember if pick or fumble) but they turned the ball over but it was not reviewed. Also if they wanna bring that up they could bring in David Pino who missed two field goals and an extra point which if made would have had a totally different impact on the game.

Just let them rest and have no controversy the better team won and thats that (Even though leinart in post game still thought USC was the better team). Longhorns are finally National Champs

Am I the only one who thinks Vince Young is NOT going to be a great NFL quarterback? I just don't see it. He doesn't have the arm strength and I'm still not sold on his passing ability. I think he'll be good, but not great. He is no Michael Vick.

Leinart does not have the best arm either. Young i believe will be a solid nfl qb if he is put in the right system. I see him as a culpepper, big guy can run and can pass. I mean for heavens sake he passed for like 247 yards and most of the throws were very accurate and he rushed for 200 yards. A guy that can do that on every down of offense is worth millions to some teams. Young had practically more offense himself then the top 5 worst teams in the NFL had like every week. And on top of that he showed he was clutch, he has a lot of intangibles. I would like him to enter the draft this year cause i think he could go top 5 but one year more of college could improve his skills a bunch. He is not perfect but he is darn well close to it
Awesome way to end the college football season! (I wish my noles would have won) Now I wonder if vince will go pro. He would be the number 1 pick, via texans trade(they could drop a spot and grab bush, and get more help)Also do you guys think he is better than Mike vick?(I do)
yea i think he is a lot better than mike vick, i think vince can adjust to the NFL very quickly but after maybe 3 shitty games

He isn't Michael Vick, because he can pass a hell of a lot better. Vick has one of the best TE's in the league at his disposal and he's can get him the ball nearly enough. Vick is one of the most overrated QB's of all time. Not only do I think Vince Young is lightyears better, but so is his brother Marcus. USC has a stacked Defense and Young just shredded 'em in so many ways. Vick....PFFFF!!!

well young does have the record for most pass/rushing yards. a record that vick does not.

Damn, my USC Trojans lost, mind you we got screwed by Vince "I had my Knee Down" Young. Ridiculous that it wasn't ruled by the booth. Props though, to Vince who carried Texas, seemed stupid to give a defensive MVP award, when neither team's defense stopped another.

One of the best games I have ever seen. And my Longhorns came out on top just like I thought they would! Won myself $150 because of that too!

BTW HOOK'EM HORNS!
... seemed stupid to give a defensive MVP award, when neither team's defense stopped another.
Yeah just like UT's defense didn't stop USC in the 4th quarter on that 4th and 2 on the 50 yard line.

;)
Did anyone else think Leinart was being a bitch in the postgame interviews? There's graceful losers and then there's the bitter Leinart.
I don't agree with what he said, but that is the mentality of a champion though. Even if you lose you still think you are the best.

In regards to Mike Vick's passing ability, I got to see the man play live at Lane Stadium and his arm was outstanding. His problem is his reads. That is why he focuses on Crumpler in the pros and hardly throws to his receivers.

The thing about the Defensive MVP I couldn't stand was that it went to Michael Huff instead of Michael Griffin. Sure, Huff had some great plays, but Griffin definately had a bigger impact on the game. The interception he had was amazing, and he made a lot of really good tackles. Michael Griffin has played very well all season, yet no one ever talks about him. He's due some respect.

You obviously didn't watch the Michigan/Nebraska game.

I'm not at all convinced Young will be anything special in the pros, he's got a rather unproven arm, makes some pretty bad reads at times when pressured, and he's got about the size of a wideout for the pros so he'll get hammered if he runs around as much as he does now.

I find it funny he draws so many comparisons to Vick whom I think is totally overrated now as well (though it'd help if they gave him a decent WR or two to throw too). With all the team speed and hard hitting defenders in the NFL, quarterbacks like these guys aren't going to be really hot when the linebacker is just about as fast and has 35 lbs on you.

They would have had a 1st and Goal though even if he had been ruled down, so they would probably have gotten a TD anyway based on the way they were moving the ball. Who knows for sure though?

Also, when you check the toss by Young it looks like a forward lateral. Damn how crazy is this? If the Texans take Young #1 the most "hyped" player Reggie Bush will most likely fall to #3.

It's a really sad story about Marcus, because on the field Michael never acted like that. Maybe, the pressure of being there got to him.

The thing is that all he had to do was play football and go to school for a couple of years. That isn't that hard to do. He'll still be drafted most likely but he cost himself a WHOLE lot of money.

I haven't seen Marcus VIck play live, but I always wondered where he'd get drafted if he played the way he plays and never got in trouble off and on the field.

Even Lawrence Phillips and Maurice Clarett got drafted. Some GM will roll the dice.
I woulda said 5th rounder because of the Vick name. Does he run a lot like Michael?
He's pretty close to Michael in speed but I don't think he is quite as elusive. I'd say 5th round is probably a good estimate. I think he'll be moved to WR in the pros. He has too much baggage to be a potential franchise QB.

A lot of people are talking about Leinart going to Tennessee. Seeing him with Norm Chow again would be very interesting.

I know I'm a little late getting in on this thread, but that was one of the greatest games ever. I was hoping Dallas would make the playoffs, but this is so much better. Also after watching the endgame/onfield interviews the win went to the right team. I had so much respect for Matt Leinhart until I heard him say, "Whatever, we still... I still think we're a better team they just made some plays in the end." fuck off Leinhart! A good player only focuses on the win, a great player is one reguardless of winning or losing has respect for their opponent.
