I didn't use LEDs ;)

They produce a light that's way too blue for my taste, so these are just incandescent. The light is really nice and warm, which is EXACTLY what I was after :D

Huh, I always thought these rope lights were LEDs. Guess not.

I'd rather stick with LEDs though since they run the coolest. I don't like anything warm near my games (consoles would probably be ok).
What about disco lights?
They are really tiny lamps. They don't get hot at all. Warm, yes. Hot, no. I can hold them in my hand just fine.

I like LEDs a LOT, trust me! I did auto headlight mods for a few years before getting back into gaming and I still have a TON of LED rope, auto bulbs, and raws sitting around. I use 'em whenever I can. I just can't stand teh color temperature of most white LEDs. Usually they're in the 5000K+ range and I'd really prefer something 3500-4300.

So I decided to finally post my own collection after looking at everyone's. And wiggy, your setup is pretty awesome.

Well here goes! Let me know what you think.

Here is the left wall
1_zps786ad6b7.jpg

I built this shelf last spring when my collection started to spread into retro systems and games. I've worked with my dad who is a Carpenter since I was in middle school so I'm pretty handy with tools.
And it looks like a mess because the ps2 isn't normally there. That is just the most convenient place to hook it up to my old tube tv.

The front
2_zps213eded8.jpg
All the retro stuff hook up to the tube tv. PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on the HD. My Wii is with my parents so they can watch some stuff on my netflix.

Right wall

Eventually I'm going to take the ps3 and ps1 shelves down and build some adjustable shelves attached to the glass cabinet.

Wii and Gamecube:

wiigc2_zpse1982470.jpg

Yes, I love Gurren Lagann.

GBA and GB:

Eventually I'll get covers printed out for them.
gb1_zps396782d8.jpg

DS and 3DS:
ds_zpsb145e08e.jpg
The red 3DS to the right is my imported version right after the price drop. I have the first Senran Kagura (will grab the second soon) and Gundam 3D battle.

PS1:
ps12_zps5e614ebf.jpg

ps13_zpsc6cd1f8e.jpg

Suikoden II, both Tales of games, Lunar (everythings in perfect condition), and Wild Arms. Some of my favorites and I'm still working on grabbing some titles.

PS2:
Entire:
ps2_zps610a8102.jpg

All my ps2 stuff in one picture. The cd binder up top next to the helghast helmet as about 50 disc only titles, no doubles. I eventually plan to case them all up but maybe when I get out of college and working steady.
By shelf:

If it isn't obvious I mainly collect Playstation games...

PS3:
ps31_zps54fc45b4.jpg

ps32_zps53503f3a.jpg

Yes, I love RPGs...

PSP:

Sega:
sega1_zpsa697996f.jpg

sega2_zps5b2c92fc.jpg

Not much to say, I've probably found 90% of all these at thrifts. I'm not a huge Sega fan but I've been loving the Saturn and may focus on collecting those games once my Playstation stuff is done. I also have a GameGear but I only have 4 games, Sonic triple trouble, Tails, Power Rangers, and NFL game.

Xbox and 360:
xbox_zps3d6652df.jpg
Again, not really into Xbox a whole lot except for a few RPG exclusives and a few other titles.

Other stuff:

glass_zpsbf0b96cc.jpg

The glass cabinet I'm eventually going to expand with some shelves on top. An entire shelf dedicated to Square, lol. That big slimes the Ds speaker stand thing, pretty cool accessory.
controllers_zps42d7b6a3.jpg
Yep, a drawer full of controllers.

Anime:

anime2_zps69566a0c.jpg

DVD and Bluray:

Some bluray steelbooks up top.

Thanks, eventually I'd like to build all my own shelves but that will have to wait until I get a place of my own. Maybe ones dedicated to each company. I used to have stuff spread out a lot but I've rearranged it so that everything is mostly together.

I got that Man Cave sign from my grandma last Christmas, lol. So much better than a gift card or shirts I have no interest in.

Sounds like your'e trying to grow pot in your closet lmao. JK you need HPS lights for that.

I keep all my game stuff in a closet that has no light so I have thought about doing this also. I don't want lights too bright though.

Bright light will fade the color of paper as if you left it in the sun. It's not like damage will happen overnight but if you're a collector that plans to have the games for a long time it's something to consider.

I have seen comic book damage from sun and UV light before.

I know most people here aren't that OCD like the VGA collectors but I myself even have a few games that I try to treat as best possible.

Just like comic books and other collecibles the best way to store them is in a dark place where the temperature and humidity are controlled.

I can barely understand you lol.

I'm not a big collector . The point I was making is that UV light is bad for collectibles in general regardless of it's value.

If you ever bought used video games, or cds, books comics etc from places like flea markets and swap meets you can see the people who leave it in sun and it gets sun damage.

I've seen two of the same comics books before and one that sat in the sun too long got all it's color drained. It was a black and white cover and originally suppose to have color. Same things happens with games.
I can barely understand you lol.
He's a troll. This is like his 8th reincarnation in the past 3 months, so don't pay any attention to him. He will probably be banned soon again for a short period until he resurfaces again to wreak havoc for the 40 minutes his account is made.

I don't know if this will help anyone but it might so I'll post it.

I have a whole foot locker full of controllers, AV cables, power cables, etc. and the way it used to be it would always turn into a gigantic rats nest regardless of how neatly I wrapped and tied the cords. So I went to the Dollar Store and bought a few boxes of the medium sized zip lock bags which are perfect sized for a controller and put each cable/controller into it's own bag. Since everything is in a bag each item slides around, nothing gets tangled together and it's quick and easy to find whatever you're looking for since the bags are clear and you can still see it all.

Pretty basic tip, but I had a big tangled ball of controllers and cords for a long time before I figured it out so just figured I'd mention it. I don't have the room that some of you guys do to put everything out on display so I keep about half of my stuff in storage bins or trunks.

I use a gallon size ziplock to store the cables, power brick and a controller for each of my older systems. Anything older than a PS2 is stored but can be hooked up in less than five minutes. I also have a dedicated extension cord and coax and AV inputs hidden in my tv cabinet so I don't ever need to get to the back. Like Easy-E, I'm all about easy access.

Reading this thread makes me want to cry....

I was one of those kids who always had to sell his old console/games to get the new one, so there are a ton of SNES/N64/PSX games I wish I had never sold...damn parents.

Now that I'm in my early 20's and working everyday I was at a point where I had a ton of consoles and started working on collecting the good games for them and then realized I need to finish college and sold them all -_-. I officially gave up on having anything but my 360 and whatever $10 and under games I could.
A lot of us have been there. Don't fret. Finish up school, get a good job (hopefully), and pick up from there :)
Yea, I know....I actually have a decent job for my age but all the $ goes to school.

I just have those fears that I'm going to miss out on stuff! Like, if I wait I'm being responsible, but some of the things I want are just going to cost me more later.

That's why it is important to get a good job. First concentrate on your studies and you want to ensure all the sacrifices you have made will pay off in the end.

Granted some games will probably go up in price, but you should be able to manage for about 90% of your collection. The fun part will then be to put together a man cave or an entertainment room to show off your collection.

That's easier said than done. The job market is bad in nearly every field... plus a lot of people have racked up sizable loans due to how expensive schools are becoming. And you know the saying: when you're jobless, you have plenty of free time but no money and when you get a job, you have money but no free time.

Still, I can't wait to start working. October can't come soon enough (that's the normal starting period for our field) and hopefully, the job is still there when the time comes. I plan to pay off all my loans/debts, and then buy a complete copy of Earthbound and Panzer Dragoon Saga.:D

Look at other outlets for games ( Craigslist , garage sales , thrift shops ). Games can be had for pretty cheap. You just need to put a little effort. Hang in there and you'll be fine. If your going to school, see if there are clubs that you can trade and borrow from. I used to be a part of an anime club which we could check out videos and that helped a bunch.

Be a nurse. Best job out there right now if you can't do the work. Don't need 20 degrees and you're almost guaranteed a job.

This is so true. Also why I'm content with my collection.

Right now I have more time then money for games. So I can plow through rpgs. When I'm working and want more of a social life as well I doub't ill ever have the time to commit. I may have a grand at a time to drop on games but they will just sit on a shelf to stare at because ill be working 40 hours a week plus maintaining a social life.

There is no win win unless you're unber rich.

No fucking kidding. I feel like I made a huge mistake busting my ass in school for a worthless computer degree that hasn't helped me one iota in getting a job. The only work I've managed to get since graduating 2+ years ago was an under-the-table gaming journalism gig. And having to take care of my kid greatly limits my options.

On a lighter note: our tax return should be just over $5000, so after paying off my wife's credit card and my medical bills, we're going to use the rest of the money for redecorating. I'll be getting a new desk, one of those big Atlantic Oskar shelving units, and a huge bookcase...that should help out a lot with organizing all of my crap and displaying my collection (along with some knick-knacks). We might also get another bookcase for our board game collection; we're going to take them out of our son's closet and build some shelving for him. And we're going to get this nice filing cabinet to put next to our couch. I will of course take before-and-after pictures.

I see this often but part of me question the validity of this... if it's so simple and they're in such demand, then why is that demand still there?

I don't think the demand is there for regular nurses (who are basically secretaries), but for registered nurses who need a degree and need their certification.

...

Man, we really need to stay focused in this thread...

This is exactly why I decided not to pursue any further education. I definitely feel like I made the right choice, I don't make a ton of money but I make enough to pay my bills and feed my collection, and I have absolutely no debt whatsoever.

On an on-topic note I really feel like I want to rearrange things, but I can't think of any way to put things together other than the way it is now. I want to be able display the Virtual Boy I just got, but I have nowhere for it :

Oh really? I'm studying to be a Nurse right now. First a CNA then an RN. But I have to deal with all the General Education first, and actually go through the Program. I would've been a CNA by now, but someone bought my spot in the ROP Program. :(

It is valid Vinny. Nurses are in big demand due to the aging Baby Boomer population. The US actually has a critical shortage of Practitioners for some time now and are forced to ask other Countries for their Nurses. However, this all based on trends and may change with new Health Reforms and Population Growth.

Not at all, I believe you are talking about the Office Nurses. Any type of Nurse is critical in a hospital setting. Even the CNAs and LVNs are a crucial part. RNs don't require to have a degree, they can do just as well by completing an ROP course. Having a degree just gets you more credentials and pay, which is the obvious route tbh.

Btw, I come from a family of Filipino Nurses.

Sorry for the huge meaning altering typo. If you CAN do the work. I.e. If you can handle the workload and gutty-wuts.

Why is there a demand for anything by that measure? Why was there a demand for the PS3 at and shortly after launch? Why is there a demand for Quarter Pounders with cheese at about 12:00pm every day?

Because there was a shortage for such a long time, and in many instances, nurses have been afforded a lot more responsibility (like a Dr.). Of course hospitals would WAY rather pay a nurse'd salary than a Dr's, so they do.

As an FYI, NO nurse acts just as a secretary. All nurses need some level of degree at this point. There is no such thing as a candy striper or anything like that anymore and many states are moving to a 4 year degree requirement, no more associate's nurses in the future.

Great salary for the level of education required, TONS of flexibility, and getting a job is a snap.

Oh Wiggy. :applause: So right.

from what i've heard from other nurses they seem to tell me getting into that field is a pain despite the demand. you need lots of school, you need good grades, and then you need good old fashioned luck. it is not as easy as signing up for X number of years of school. granted it is reliable work once you get into it but you have to actually break in first.

I have a computer degree as well (Bachelor Degree), and I've worked at the same place since graduating in 2008. Not a week goes by where I wish I could find something better (over-worked, under-staffed). Only saving grace is that it kind-of pays decent (a stretch at times compared to what other companies in the area are paying). I've tried getting a job elsewhere, but it seems like since the economic collapse in 2008 (shortly after I got hired) companies got tight on the resources they put into IT. Combine that with all the IT grads coming out after being assured that computers/IT was the way to go and there is a bottle neck on grads getting real jobs.

Though, I love all the commercials on the radio advertising to get a job in IT because it's soooo in demand...

Hope you find something eventually though.

1) Get an entry level job at a big corporation.
2) Have them pay for business school.
3) Try to get into the field you would like to be in (either within the same company or another one).
4) Thank slowdive21 for saving you money.

It's because nobody likes to talk about the amount of empty handed trips it takes to find something good.

For example, I go to Good Will five days a week in the morning and in the afternoon (it's 2 blocks down from where I work) and I probably find 1-2 things a week. When I say 1-2 things, I mean in general not video games even though that is what I primarily look for along with other various electronics. Of course I could just become more familiar with other valuable items and resell stuff to make it more worth it, but I pretty much just do it to find things for myself.

It's a game of patience, but every now and then a $2 pristine copy of Einhänder tucked between Britney Spears' debut album and a long forgotten Gin Blossoms CD makes it worth it. :D

Haha! They pull down like that fruit/veggie thing in Back II the Future 2 :p

No, but for reals, here's the floor plan and the new shelve spot. I'm gonna seriously knock em out tomorrow. I don't need to build any of the built in BS that I just did. There's a perfect nook and I'll just build them right in. Gonna put movies and my music there. My poor CDs have been stashed away upstairs for years. I'll finally be able to display them again.
