If anything it's going to give gamestop more business, atleast until the mass consumer market switch to all digital.
Exactly.
Man... some of you have some crazy BD collections. I wonder what you guys will do with them once they inevitably become obsolete like VHSes or the soon to be obsolete DVDs.:p

Hm... I haven't captured my collection in a while. I should probably do that soon since I like to have a yearly picture log of it.
Yeah, I don't really get the whole blu-ray/dvd collections. In part because these are never going to be rare enough to maintain any equity. Sure, I buy games/movies to play/watch them but I'd also like to know that there is more value to the items I buy in time. Games tend to hold more demand/value than dvds. A quick look at how prices of dvds have crashed proves this. I expect blu-rays to eventually suffer a similar fate.

i've pretty much eliminated my dvd collection and don't expect to build a blu-ray one (don't even have a blu-ray player right now). i watch all my shows using on-demand.

I don't have lots of movies to try and make money off of them. I just have that many because I prefer to watch and keep the physical media then rent.

As StripesOrBars said, companies do want things to be digital but I don't think people will accept it soon enough. Hell, around 30% of this nation doesn't have high speed internet.
Exactly.

It is kind of like pouring money down the drain each time someone buys a big movie release (such as The Matrix or Kill-Bill). Years ago (2002) I used to get suckered on the occasional VHS with a $20 sales price, but now it's all 50 cent DVDs and $5 boxsets for me. Fortunately there is a little bit of an equity shelter when it comes to rare Anime movies & series, so I just find them in the wild and occasionally flip one for $20 to $40.

But yeah, there have been times in the past where I've overbought media (games included) and later needed to go on a purging cycle. The main thing I've learned from this is that there's a right and wrong way to collect. Ideally a collection should pay for itself, so in my eyes the aftermarket is the only way to go :)

Collecting does not always have to be about value.

Honestly, I rarely even sell stuff from my collection, even if it's worth a lot, it's really more of something for me to do.
Collecting does not always have to be about value.
Seriously. All this talk about "equity" made me wonder if I was on the right site.

i get like 75% of my blus for $10 or under.

theres only been a few(Scott Pilgrim, last of the mohicans, firefly, come to mind. also just spent $11 on zon zon for the other guys)that ives splurged on.

theres this CD Trader by my house, and they always have good stuff for $7 a copy/buy 4 for $25(recently picked up point break, stranger than fiction, the illusionist USA, and adventure land, all with no tax).

i cant see them dropping much lower than $5 in the next 5 years.

by then, id have sold em all(for hopefully more than what we paid) anyways.

I wasn't really talking about it in terms of value, just saying that it seems like we're on track to have a new major movie format every 10-15 years and pretty much everything movie is re-released in the new format.

I think the next "big" thing movie studios are going to do is get into this 3D business. I'm pretty sure a lot of movie studios are going to start double dipping in the movies they have already released just as Disney is going to start later on this year with Lion King. I think 3D is cool but I can really care less about it.

Maybe some people just enjoy collecting/watching movies? Not everything has to wind up being some flip-fest. I buy movies because I like them, I don't purchase them in hopes that one day I'll be able to flip an $8 DVD into a $3 profit.

It's been just about a year since I posted my last collection pics. I guess I would update them. Most of the time my games sit on a shelf in my closet as I don't have a bookshelf to put them on. I bring out 3 or 4 of the most used titles and put them in my TV stand for easy access. For the old generation stuff it lives in a storage box.

My collection is pretty modest but I am more than satisfied. After pulling out all my stored games for the pictures, I'm actually surprised at how I have been pretty good about keeping the CAG-runaway backlog effect under control. Thanks to CAG most if not all of these were purchased at great discounts :)

Spoilerified to reduce pixel wastage.

P.S. even though I have the FO3 collector's edition, I got rid of the vanilla game and replaced it with the GOTY version so I have a hybrid "GOTY CE".

Hehe 5 of the 7 DS titles I own are sealed

Here are the game guides I have, thanks to the recent GS sale the number of guides I have increased by quite a bit hehe

Yes, I know I have some guides here for games I don't own (AC:B and Starcraft 2). That was from the GS sale... and they're games I don't own... yet :)

Finally the gaming setup. Yes it usually is that clean.

Yes the FO3 guide/paraphenalia live there because that's what I'm playing at the moment. When I move onto a new game that I have a CE for, I change out the guide/decorations

Hope you enjoyed. I bought myself a flash for my DSLR for xmas so I thought it was a good time to play with it.

I should have full updated pictures of everything hopefully by the end of next weekend, which is when I think all my packages I've been waiting on should arrive, so I'll keep you guys posted.

They are nice, what kind of setup do you have? I would love to do some amateur stuff but don't really have the time for it. Although being a UPS driver I have been around some very scenic areas.

Thanks for the comments guys, photography is my other hobby besides gaming. If you think gaming is expensive just go look at prices for digital cameras + lenses hehe. My kit is a nikon D80 which is a little over 3 years old but still gets the job done if you know what you're doing. Anyone who knows photography will tell you it's the operator and not the gear that makes the photos good :).

I also bought a couple nice lenses and the new flash (Nikon SB700). I mainly shoot landscapes but as I no longer live in a scenic area of the US, I thought maybe a flash would allow me to learn some other techniques otherwise my camera sits unused for much of the year except when I am able to go on vacation somewhere.

I've met some people over the years and even deliver to some novice photographers and they all say the same thing, "it is very expensive". Just the things to develop professional quality photos is expensive.

GF and I was cleaning this weekend. We decided to buy an Expedit system at Ikea, and we put it together and tested how stuff fit on it.

The kitty thinks it's great.
3675f160.jpg
[

Also bought 2 Besta wall shelf units. For whatever reason, even though they're literally called wall shelf units, there's no wall mounting hardware. So we went back to Ikea to buy some rails to make it more secure. Took much of the afternoon and evening getting these up. It now has the anime and blurays on there.

Gantz ball is the only anime not pictured, which is on the TV stand.

We put some more stuff on the Expedit. Most of this stuff were from yard sales, cept the 2 fight sticks.

Our Elfa shelf that we put up when we moved in back in the summer. It was packed, and had the anime on there. So there's space on it again.

The 3 Benno shelves we got for less than the cost of 1 new one, used to have some of the blurays.

Going to work on unpacking my figures and some CEs I still have in boxes. Also not pictured are our 4 small moving boxes filled with game guides, and 3 large containers of older games and systems.
I gotta get myself to Ikea and get a couple of those Besta shelves, although the lack of mounting kit may make me pull my hair out.
Those do look nice, but at $80 a pop I'm somewhat encouraged to sell stuff to make more room instead :p
Those do look nice, but at $80 a pop I'm somewhat encouraged to sell stuff to make more room instead :p
They're $60 a pop actually. They give you these plastic support for wall mounting, just not the actual screw that goes into the wall, or anchors, if you need them.

We asked the employees, and they said the ones at the store are mounted without the rails, so it's doable. If you want the rails, they're $10 each. The rails did make it easy to put it up, because the rails held the shelves relatively securely and level before any screws were put in. What I did was use the rail in the center, and a long screw/anchor for the end. But you can just get the Besta and some 3" screws and anchors. We bought 4 rails, but after installing the first one, it felt like overkill, so ended up putting 2.

There are glass doors that make it look even nicer, and you can put your own pictures in them. But they're $50 a pop, and I'd need 4. I do plan on getting them, just not any time soon.

What really bugs me about these is the third shelf. If you use it for DVDs/blurays, you can have 2 shelves. The last shelf is barely lower than the height of a DS case, so those don't fit either. I'll probably end up putting gashapons there, and saving my display case for just the pricey figures.

Edit: I'm not affiliated with Ikea, but if anyone's interested in these shelves, these are the minimum tools I think you should have:
Screwdriver(s)
Drill
1/16" bit, or a studfinder
3/8" bit (not really really required, because what this does is drill a hole in the back of the Besta for where the screws go through)
3x 5x60mm screws and 3x 8x51mm anchors (or similar)
5/16" bit for the anchors (or similar, if you use different sized anchors, but the 60mm ones are pretty standard for wall mounting, I think)

It helped to have a 4mm hex key though. They give you one, but it's sooooo damn small that you can't get any torque out of it. Also helps if it has a ball tip. But again, not required. Just makes it easier.
Something to tap the anchors in, but you can use really anything hard enough*
I will not pay your medical bills because you're trying to be manly, and/or a pervert.

A rail kit or 2 is optional, though it should be fine without it.

Edit #2: We did use the rails because we had cats that jump everywhere, and earthquakes, and they're above the couch.

I know I'm super delayed in the whole blu-ray / movie collecting convo, but heres my 2 cents.

I owed a ton of DVDs and came to the conclusion that most I watched once and never viewed again. I decided I wouldn't really buy movies any more. I own maybe 5 Blus. The exception to not buying are if its one of my fav movies (like I will watch it repeatedly) or TV shows that are the complete series.

My old school games are getting boxed up to make room for our new baby. The newer disc stuff is up on a rotating dvd media tower I bought at Best Buy.

Here are the games going into the box. I wonder how long it will be until I take them out again...

With flash carts, you do play on the original consoles. They're basically carts with CF or SD slots that you put all of your games on, and select which to play using a menu, so you'll never have to swap them out (think HD Loader for the PS2). They're not exactly cheap, though. The NES one is $135, SNES is $170, and N64 is $200.

Not much to look at. I live in a Marine Corps Barracks Room, this is the best I can do until I get out. Next month. :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

PS3, Beats Tour Headphones, Bose Companion 2 Speakers, I-Inc 28" 1080p Monitor. 27 Mint PS3 Games displayed in Best Buys Init Storage cases, DJ Hero Turntable Set in the back behind them.

I love the sweet SNES custom cases and inserts...how do you go about getting those cases as well as printing out the inserts? I have used The Cover Project for Dreamcast inserts so I am assuming you use them as well? What I have always struggled with though is getting it to print out the exact size so it fits to the case. Any help with that? (I'm not the most savvy computer guy) :)
Take the saved files on a flash drive to staples.

So if I just save the pic from cover project and put it on a flash drive it is already confiqured to print out to fit those snes cases? Sorry to be redundant but I just wanna make sure I know what the heck I'm doin. LOL

helps for all games

You will have to do some cutting so having a good steady hand and some scissors would be needed as well but yes, all downloads from that site are printable.

I mostly do it with my GBA and GameBoy games but it should work just fine for the larger SNES boxes.
They will cut them to size for you at Staples as well, they did it for free for me.

That's awesome. What does Staples charge per print out off the flash drive since you guys have experience on this?

Animal7690- They are all DS cases. Some of them are blacker then others becasue they are not offical which I didn't know when I ordered them off ebay.

Rollobobo- It's around 50 cent each. I think you get a small discount if you join their free rewards program. I got 22 covers printed at Office Depot the other day for $12

I get my covers printed at Office Depot. Staples use to print them for me but then they started enforcing copright on me. I also cut them myself. I would recommend a clear ruler and an xacto blade.

Thank you for the help. I think I am going to use Office Depot myself. I called Staples and kind of asked about this and they busted out we wont print copy righted material which was kinda bullshit but whatever. If I can do this at office depot I would be just as happy. I love how those cases look....now I gotta buy some cases. I notice you can get them for 42.00 for 100 cases. Do they sell them in a lesser quantity? Its hard to tell on the site that shows the cases.
