The Sauder unit I have surprisingly has barely bent/bowed at all. The smaller unit sagged pretty bad, but it's barely noticeable on the one I'm currently using, which is pretty good considering I've got it full.

Hmm, mine is Espresso and it seems to look just like yours. I guess it could be the lighting, though. Or the colors just don't vary much.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, it sounded to me like you were wanting to store them in order to make room. For old game boxes, your best bet is probably eBay. I don't see just the boxes go up for sale very often, but it's probably the only place where I see it happen at all. Sometimes, you can purchase a copy of an old game with the box for pretty cheap...depending on what game it is. And of course, you may be able to find some CAGs who are willing to help out.

That's the best I've got. If anyone has a better answer, I'd like to hear it 'cause it would be nice to get "new" boxes for some of my NES, SNES, and N64 games.

Come to think of it, maybe I was sent Espresso after all. This is the unit I purchased from Wal-Mart, and on second inspection of the stock photo it's a lot lighter than what I got. Looks good to me either way!

I know I've seen individual boxes and instruction manuals for sale at the Portland Retro Game Expo, but that's not much help to you in TN. If there's something similar (a convention focused solely on classic gaming) you might have some luck there.

Also, if you don't mind reproductions, there's this site for NES boxes: http://www.nescoastcustoms.com/storepage503599.aspx

Although after looking them over, most are PAL.

Thanks for the site. I'll give it a look over. Also, no, the only conventions are an hour and a half away and I have no clue if they are specifically classic game cons. I'm kind of in a dead zone for everything.

So has anyone else thought about getting the shelving units from Borders for their collection? The store by me is running a sale 3 shelves for $100. They look heavy duty and would hold a bunch of games. Problem is they are pre-built and getting them in the house will be a pain.

I've got a huge collection...mostly sitting in storage boxes at my parents home. :lol: Someday, when I own a home, I'll get it all out and get it uploaded.

I'm going for quality over quantity. I've got less than ten more games I want to have before I can call it quits. A couple of those I plan on trading/selling for better iterations (I want SamSho 2 but don't care about 1 or 3, for example).

They are the arcade cartridges used in MVS arcade units. So, yes, they were sold in the US (and other places). Since they were for arcades, they weren't really for home use. (They look like large VHS tapes...well, kinda.)

AHHH, These are the carts for the Neo Geo Multiple Select Arcade Machines. Wow I have never seen them, I just assumed they were jamma boards. That is really cool! :applause:
 
Pardon my (greater level of) ignorance as well but I see a lot of people with Neo Geo stuff... what's the big deal about Neo Geo games/arcade units exactly? It's one of the few console lines I have never been exposed to and the first I heard about it wasn't until the late 90s.

BTW, I love those custom cases... they look incredibly professional.

I don't know about the console market, but I remember Neo Geo games showing up in the arcades around the time when said arcades were going out of business / were no longer economically viable. In terms of 16-bit sprites and pre-polygon graphics, the Neo Geo games simply looked better than anything else I had seen before--SNES included.

It was easy to think of Neo Geo as an exotic God-bomb that would define the next generation of gaming, yet it seemed to quickly fade away as Nintendo marched ahead with its less pricey line-up.

From a collecting standpoint, however, its amazing how many systems back then were ahead of their time. Little did I know that MVS wasn't the only strange kid on the block, for over in Japan you had things like the PC88 and the PC Engine.

Not 100% sure on the timeframe for the PC88 clip, but since this system was around as early as 1982 I have to wonder if graphics like this were being churned out while the most of the US was gaming in the stone ages.

Everything Indigo said is true. Also the system was like $650 when it came out, so you can imagine how much the games cost on average back then.

*nod* I did some more reading on the PC88 (buried in a Valis review no less) which seemed to suggest that the system had problems with scrolling and rendering various 2D adventure game mechanics. So even though the graphics look great for the time, it's possible that other systems had them beat when it came to things like control, responsiveness, hit detection, etc.

It's cool to think how these differences in technology play out once they hit the market; just like in the case of the Sega Game Gear vs. the Nintendo Gameboy. The former has a color screen, which you'd think would be superior to the competition's black and white--yet Nintendo dominated the market share due to 'other' factors (price, battery consumption, and 3rd party support).

My experience with Neo Geo is much like Indigo's. I played them as a kid during the Street Fighter II arcade rush, and have always been a fan. As an adult I stumbled into a deal for a Final Fight arcade for 50 bucks, soon after I got it home I decided to start hunting down a Neo Geo arcade cab as this seemed like it could be a reality. A year later I scored a gorgeous arcade unit off of a guy for 200 bucks, my wife actually bought it for my birthday. The best part of the Neo Geo is that if you have to have an arcade in your house, this one makes sense as you can swap out up to 6 games at time in it. Also what this guy says:

Since this thread needs a bump I figured I would post my gaming room/collection. A few notes before we begin. This is what a game room looks like after being compacted to fit into my old room since I moved back home after living in large college houses with 4-6 other gamers:roll:. Be warned it is messy and cluttered. This should be fun if taken as a sort of I Spy game. haha

I Spy a cat with lazer eyes, a sentinal, a vault boy bobble head, a snatcher, and a mace +5 of foam.

Let's start with an overview shot of my abode from the door.

Next a shot opposite looking back at said door to give a good grasp of the space we are dealing with. The 3 in 1 table in the middle is from my childhood that I use now for the staging center of all my operation, mainly painting Warhammer 40k figs, playing board games when it is cleaned off, and mostly a cat bed. haha

Finally to a pic of where I play my retro games. Hooked up to that tiny tv (that thing got me through many semesters of college) is N64, Saturn, Xeye, PS2, Gamecube, NES, and Dreamcast. Also my computer which is on its last legs which I'm considering wiping clean and making it a dedicated MAME machine.

Not pictured is my PS3 and original Xbox which is hooked up downstairs to the HD setup. Also a large part of my collection is also at my girlfriend's place.

Well I hope you enjoyed! This should provide a good counter dialogue to all you with your spacious nerd lairs. Someday...someday.. as soon as i can save up enough monies, which is when CAG stops posting great deals. Curse you double edge sword!!!

How the hell does that room allow living? Damn. I'd never let anybody in my house. Nice collection, but get some shelves or boxes and organize that shit!

Half of my house looks like that right now and I get plenty. Of course, my wife is the one who creates most of the mess. And I can 100% absolutely guarantee that her room (when we were dating) was far, far worse than those pictures.
