I'll have an update on collection once I put together the new shelf tomorrow. :3

Gameboy regular games, or Gameboy Advance games?

If Gameboy Advance games, the old DS cases used to have a slot for GBA games, so it's pretty much made for them. The new ones however removed those slots, so there is just an empty space above where the DS cart goes.
These are an option at this point.

http://www.supermediastore.com/prod...ent=CD/DVD+Cases&utm_campaign=googleBase+-+AC

They're pretty cheap, but they get the job done. I've been using them for a while now. Otherwise eBay is probably the only good place to score a chunk of empty OEM cases at a time :(

Are there any alternative sites to the Cover Project? They're a great site, but there are a ton of games I need that they don't have, and i'm hesitant to buy DS cases or UGC's unless I can box up everything.

http://vgboxart.com/

Stuff on that site is almost all custom artwork and mostly newer games. Don't know if you're looking for more of a retail look or not.

What games are you looking for? There are TONS of games that have been completed but aren't in the database. Looking around the forums, you can find a lot of the stuff that isn't up on the main site (including the 150 or so covers that I've made).

I just hate the quality on the third party cases. I have about 80+ GBA games in DS cases, but they're all the original DS cases I found during dumpster diving, so no third party stuff for me! :D

Yeah, I hear ya, but there aren't that many options at this point :(

I grabbed a few cases (of the cheap shells) because I knew I wanted to experiment and cut a bunch of 'em to bits (as you can see). Doing that with OEM cases wasn't something that I wanted to do.
Target has some really nice shelves with doors on sale for $30 this week. We had moves our blurays to the mantle about a month ago, cause the benno wall shelves were completely full. We bought two of these to put on the mantle today, and I'm loving them. They're only three dvds tall, but you can stack them. We didn't, cause we put them on the mantle.
You got a link?

I don't even know why I'm asking since I don't have room to keep it but if it's nice, I might have to buy it and hold on to it for when we move.

So far i've only written down the GB/GBC/GBA games I need, and those are most all kids games I have from when I was, well, a kid. Those are:

(GB/GBC)
Tech Deck Skateboarding
A Bug's Life
Rugrats: Time Travelers
Wheel of Fortune
Robopon: Sun Version
MagiNation
Yu-Gi-Oh Dark Duel Stories
Buzz Lightyear Star Command
The Grinch
Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

(GBA)
Scooby Doo Cyber Chase
Crash/Spyro Superpack
Cartoon Network Speedway
Backyard Baseball

I tried using their forum search, but I keep getting this:
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

So in regards to using custom games cases for games, do you guys usually hunt down the game itself and not the CIB game? I was wanting to get some N64 games and usually notice that the CIB auctions on ebay usually go for high price (If they are the good/rare games). Then you just get a custom game case for your games?

If it's a price thing, then yes, I most definitely just go for the custom cases first then replace when I can find box/manual only, but otherwise, the custom case is a nice route if you just want something now and don't want it to look ugly while you look to complete it.

It's not big, but there's hardware to stack them. Here it is in espresso and white.

Here's a pic of one of the ones we picked up, just as an idea of how much it holds. Bottom shelf has two rows of BR, because the second one we bought was damaged, so we're exchanging it tomorrow. The horizontal stuff doesn't belong there, but I put it there for now, as it was on the TV stand before.

I was looking for something short to fit under the mantle. I also wanted something with doors, because it was going to be in view by the TV. This just happened to fit the bill really well.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the search function has been busted for a while :/

Well, you could browse the DS case section.

http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?board=4.0

Hopefully they'll get that back up at some point. Things like that tend to move slowly over there. The mods and admins seem to be rather busy folks (in their personal lives), so the site doesn't get a lot of attention it seems.

I rarely hunt for CIB anymore. Only if it's a game that I really want in my collection. For more of the "filler" type stuff, carts are just fine. I'll case 'em up and put 'em on my shelf just the same.
Thinking of getting something like this for the basement - http://www.raymourflanigan.com/mcintyre-5-pc-reclining-sectional-sofa-296240446.aspx

Too much $$$$, can I build it myself? ;p
Kathy Ireland?! Man, that's a name that can't possibly still hold much marketing value. Well, it's ugly, but so are all comfy couches IMO.

At my house, the seriously uncomfortable, "designer" furniture goes everywhere but the basement. I like looking at it, but I personally HATE using our living room couches. They are terribly uncomfortable.

The man cave has a big-ass, ugly sectional like the one in the link you provided. Looks dated, is an ugly shade of green/brown/gray/WTF, and takes up WAY too much space.

It's my favorite place to sit in the house, hands down.

That couch seems fairly priced to me. Buy cheap and it'll feel cheap. No sense in spending half the money on something else if it only provides a small fraction of the comfort ;)

Good point.

Cleared up another row for some stuff. Now it'll last me 2 and a half days!

Went ahead and ordered the 100 pack of DS cases. Gonna try and case all my handheld games. This could be interesting. Some of these covers will be extremely difficult to find. Maybe i'll try and find somebody who's willing to rotary a bunch of these things for me in exchange for pay. I hate making stuff myself (I have zero patience for that kind of trial and error, I know its a poor quality to have but i've always been that way), not to mention the fact that it's not a question of "will I ruin a few while I learn", but a fact that "i will destroy and render useless the majority of them if I try". Maybe i'll try to do it myself, but I am the opposite of handy or efficient with tools, and even worse with knifes.

Still though, if I can get this done, it will be soooo satisfying.

If you have trouble finding covers, be sure to let us know. Collectively, all of us in this thread probably own every handheld game imaginable. Heh.
Hit me up if you have any Qs. I've been slicing and dicing the cheap-o DS cases for a while now ;)
Thanks guys! Zombie, I'll post up a list once the cases come and see if anybody has what I need. And Wiggyx, I might just take you up on that.

No prob!

I'm always more than happy to help folks in this and other gaming communities :)

I ordered my ds cases with the cheapest shipping yesterday. Said it took up to 9 business days to ship. Already got shipping confirmation and a tracking number.

Pretty much out of room for the cased portables. I've still got a bunch to case up, so I better get to building that new shelving unit...

Funny, I always thought that was a sock puppet in your avatar. Not being a car guy, it seems like an odd product to me, but I'm glad to see that it appears to be going quite well for you (based on the Google results). It would take more work, but it could actually be neat if you made sleeves/pouches for handhelds, as long as you can add a flap and maybe a strap handle. Some folks would likely appreciate the added layer of protection.

LOL, cool little thing, but the "f" needs a bit more definition.
I had to look at it three times to realize it didn't say "Shitties".

I could EASILY have them produced to accommodate other, larger portables. I'm just getting the old website revamped and back up-and-running. Between that and the SNES shell, I'm pretty swamped. If they continue to do well, then I've got plenty of future plans for the brand. I'm just a one man show at the moment, so it's difficult to work on multiple projects at once. I just got a guy to deal with distribution, so that'll free up a bunch of time wasted packing stuff into envelopes/boxes, printing shipping labels, and trips to the post office. I hate doing that stuff as it just cuts into time that I could use for designing or marketing or anything else really.

You know, for as much concern as I had over that when I came up with the brand, there have been only a handful of times where that popped up in discussion on forums or with customers.

There were numerous logo designs before I settled with this one, and honestly, it's pretty hard to find a font that was both appropriate for the brand AND made the "f" really stand out from the pack. Whenever I forced it by stretching or tweaking the letter itself, it just ended up looking weird.

The version that you see has worked well for me thus far :)
Did you guys find instructions online on how to build your shelves or are you guys naturally good at that stuff?
Check out Lowe's and Home Depot's websites (among others). They sell hardware that acts as sort of a kit to make your own shelving with. Basically, chip/press board at various lengths with pre-drilled holes for assembling and mounting shelves with. You could also try instructables. I'm SURE there are plenty of basic wood-working tutorials. Honestly, most of what everyone is using here could be hobbled together with nothing more that a drill and screwdriver at most. Home Depot will cut the wood to length for ya, so all you would need to do is piece it together with whatever fastener you choose ;)

OK guys, I just got a PS3 this week, and I've alreedy got problems. How do you guys deal with the drastically different labels on the spines of the older cases? The 360's are a little different but you can't tell unless you look close, but with this its just terrible. And if I just have them in two different sections I'll break up series, ex UC 1 & 2+3. Please guide me. Also #firstworldproblems

honestly with blu - ray, ps3, 360 and normal dvd and older game cases i just lump them together. for instance all the ps3 games together, all the dvds together and so on. otherwise it would drive me nuts cause it wouldnt look right. i suppose you could buy cases that are all the same and put in custom labels short of that i dont know what to tell you.

I don't even see a problem. I just have my games in alphabetical order.

Custom covers take care of the issue just fine ;)

What kind of paper do you all use to print those custom covers?
I remember back in the day, before I had a color printer and my own computer, I would print off black and white covers for old NES games.

It still looks terrible, but it was awesome having a physical copy of the box art.

When they first changed it, I thought I'd be bothered by it (as I am with Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits/Player's Choice versions of games) but it never really bothered me once the games started coming in. With PS3 games I've got the old logos, new logos and imports all together and they all look ok to me. They're different but it's not like they've stick out too much.

I use Epson Enhanced Matte photo paper. It's pricey, but it produces beautiful results.
