I use Dsharpie. Can edit the video so it displays on the Zune as a music video, tc show, and movie.

Thanks, I couldn't remember it. MP3Tag doesn't bring up the video files to edit.

received the dock yesterday from buy.com. It is amazing and works with the zune 80. Best thing I got under $20 for the year so far.

That comes with a remote, right? How does that work?

My Logitech speaker dock came with a remote but it doesn't let me pick artists/tracks...just forward/back and volume. Kind of annoying.

Works great. My remote stopped working, so I had to get it replaced. But other than that, makes for some great times.

What CocheseUGA said, works great. You can change the track, play/pause, volume control, a button that works like the middle button on the zune, and has a back button. The only thing is, you gotta point the remote toward the front of dock where the IR receiver is otherwise it won't work as well. There's also a magnet on the back of the remote so you stick it somewhere if needed

im sure dsharpie is better, but i just used mp3tag on some of my files last night. :whistle2:k

I posted this in the Lifestyle forum but was directed here (didn't know there was a thread in the 360 section).

So I just got a Zune 80 GB today and was wondering what the best carrying case was for it? I don't want something to bulky. I just need something that protects the player pretty good. Do any CAGs have suggestions on which one to pick up? I've seen a couple listed on Amazon but I would like to just go to Target or something and pick it up tommorow. So any suggestions?

Also should I pick up a screen protector, or is it pretty scratch resistant?

This case is pretty nice and reasonably priced. Cut out the crappy plastic screen guard and spring for an Invisible Shield.

This is the case I have...it's nicer and a bit more expensive. It also doesn't have a belt clip...not sure if that's important to you.

The screen on the Zune 80 is made from glass (as opposed to plastic). It's touted as being more scratch-resistant than the Ipod screen, but you never know.

Yeah those were two I was looking at. I have a question on the headphones. Are the ones that came with the Zune the best? They seem pretty loud to me but I don't like how they feel like they're falling out of my ear. I tried using some other headphones and they were pretty weak, the loudness just wasn't there. Is there a better set of headphones out there?

Does anyone have a Zunepass? Is it worth it? You can sync any music you bought into the Zune right? You're not restricted to playing music with the software...?

A buddy of mine has it(zunepass) and loves it. You can definitely download the music onto the player, but that music is not shareable(via wi-fi) with any other zune's. I'm not really sure if anyone really uses that feature anyway. He said that they have all the music he would ever need and sometimes have some cool playlists that are pretty unique. Its not something I would be into, but for him it really seems to work.

these are the best inexpensive headphones i have ever had...

edit: and i don't have the zune 80 (premium) headphones. i have the standard. i had the first gen premium headphones, and these are still far better.

I went ahead and bought the Zune leather case. It's pretty awesome. I also bought some offical Zune screen protectors which sucked ass. They don't fit on the 80 (which didn't say on the package). Worst off they cost ten bucks and I didn't even get a recipt. I thought the lady put it in the bag but turns out she didn't. I might just go ahead and order that invisible shield one.

I just got these earbuds from Zuneone.net last week...they're pretty spiffy. Louder and clearer than the "premium" headphones that came with my 80GB. Plus, the orange metal details sort of echo the Zune's pink/orange color scheme.

Unfortunately, it looks like they're out of stock right now, though.

When I add a podcast to my subscription list, how do I get it to stop automatically downloading all the episodes? I added 1 UP and another gaming podcast and it proceeded to automatically download the episodes.

It doesn't add all the episodes, just however many you tell it to. Click the podcast, then in the right hand sidebar, click series settings. Then choose how many episodes you want the Zune software to keep at a time.

My Zune 80 just froze for the first time. Searched the internet and to soft reset it, you press and hold the back button and the up button on the scroll pad. Just wanted to let you cags know should this happen to you guys.

It was really weird, I was listening to the music and I noticed it just stopped. Looked at the zune and the album art was the last song played, but the song was from a different artist and the timer was at 0:00. Pressed the play/pause button, nothing. I could still skip tracks and go back, but nothing would play. I could also browse though the menus. I pressed shuffle all albums and then it really froze. Nothing would work and I pressed and held the play/pause button thinking it would be a soft reset, but the back light of the screen turned off and you could still see the albums listed, but dark.

Hope this is just a minor thing and won't reoccur

Xbox Live games now on Zune

written by Jef on Wednesday, February 20 2008
It appears that with the demonstration that Xbox Live XNA games are coming to the Zune!
These are the community developed games using the XNA studio 3.0 tools, but I would venture to expect 1st party published games as well.
Cesar on the Zune Insider blog was smart to point out that XNA is available to develop for the Zune device, but that no time frame is currently announced when games will be available.

So far some points known are:
 • Touchpad based games - This could mean it's possibly limited to generation 2 Zunes.
 • Wireless Mobile Games - Does this mean Head 2 Head multiplayer, or possibly mobile versions tied to Xbox Live over Wi-Fi?
 • Integrated soundtrack to your collection - Similar to how you have a custom soundtrack on Xbox 360 games by overlaying your own music from your collection
From the Microsoft GDC keynote blog:
11:02: Shows the shooter game Zauri built using XNA Game Studio on Windows, Xbox 360, and… the Zune! The Zune’s touch controller looks to be a natural for gaming. You can play Zune tunes in the background while you play, and the Zune’s wi-fi support will even allow multiplayer gaming.
Below are images of the demo game Zauri, which is a test game for Xbox, Zune, and also apparently mobile phones. It appears the Live anywhere is starting to take shape as the number of vehicles to play games is definitely growing. We just need some release details and time lines.

Same here. It was simple to pull that insert and make it work on the 80GB Zune. Plus there's a $5.00 Pricegrabber rebate out there to bring the net price down to about $12.

I bought a 4GB red zune not that long ago because my Nano (2nd gen) broke and I didn't have the money (same damn day I bought a PSP) so I just used my store credit at GS to buy one.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Zune, the upload software is "ehhh..." at best and it took forever to download onto my computer. And it doesn't even detect all my songs.

Luckily, I'll be buying an iPod Touch next month (my birthday, from my beloved Apple) and I'm giving my brother my Zune since he doesn't have any mp3 players as a graduation/birthday/christmas present for this year.

i went the other way. just sold my touch to get an 8. to each their own. apple products have horrible resale value.

IDK, each to his own I guess ;).

But the Touch just a lot more things I use than the Zune's exclusives (I don't use radio and I know no one else with a Zune).

Before you do check Best Skins Ever first... same exact stuff without the price, colorful box and etc.

I have it and like it a lot. Before getting it I was stuck in a rut of listening to the same handful of CDs over and over again. Now I'm listening to so much different stuff and it's cool to just be able to download whatever you want without thinking twice or having any hassles. I like downloading entire playlists too... for example, they have "Best of 2007" playlists for every genre that are great as custom soundtracks on the 360.

Also, you can stream full songs straight off the marketplace without downloading them. This is great for parties and such, people can instantly listen to whatever they want.

And yes, you can sync Zune Pass music to the Zune.

Probably a dumb question but how do I change the artist name? I only figured out how to change album names and it's annoying to have albums in the "Uknown Artist" section.

Whoa. Did not know you can stream entire songs without even downloading them, that's pretty sick. I might look into the pass.
anyone want to develop a game for this?
if i knew how, i probably would.

I open it up in windows media player and right click the song and go to advanced tag editor. That's what I do since I don't know how to do on the zune. It'll change it on the zune too.

Some of the skins on www.decalgirl.com are surprisingly non-lame. I especially like this one:
I got my zune today and it's been charging for over 3 hours and still hasn't come on yet.
DOA? Check the lock on the unit make sure its unlocked.

Problems seem to be creeping up on my poop-zune lately. Issues with random restarts, and not turning on until I cycle the lock button (even if it's off to start.) Not sure what the deal is.

as the software is with the Zune, I warn anyone from buying the Zune 2. It's not worth it. I left my ipod (angry that it was broken) and bought the Zune 2. Big Mistake, as much as I dislike apple, I'd wish I bought another ipod. At least it has properly functioning software.

I think I'm gonna be a sucker for the ipod touch as opposed to the Zune. Anyone have any info that could possibly steer me towards the Zune?

PS: The title of this thread makes me laugh.

The software sadly is better than what it was. The version before the Feb update used to rename my songs and albums, and not even stuff that was close (It would change Manson stuff to Rage Against the Machine, Rage stuff into Tool, Mushroomhead into Metallica, etc. I think i may have to do what Scuba said and open up my files in WMP and re-name them there. I still have ocassional problems with syncing. Everything syncs, and i check the device menu's "items added" list, and theyre there, but when i disconnect, its all gone.

Those decalgirl skins look really nice, a friend of mine has a $250 gift card for CC because her Zune 30 broke, but she was holding out for an 80 in Pink or Red (she doesnt wanna buy one off of the Zune website, since she has a GC). Maybe i'll try to sell her on one of the red/pink skins for the 80 instead.

I just bought one of DecalGirl's skins and they arrived today, so I'll let you know how they look (and see if I can take pictures).

I just wish I knew how to switch host computers. I'm on my 3rd laptop, the previous two are dead, and whenever I connect the Zune, it locks it so I can't copy or move music, or do anything really.

I seem to have misplaced my usb charging cord for my zune 30. I saw an official cord for sale for $19.99 at Best buy, but was wondering if there were any cheaper options to pick up another cable?

A) It's apple, and you pay for pretty
B) It has less storage

What does everybody use for converting videos? Is there a way to convert yotube videos etc. to your computer? I've tried vixy.net, but it seems not to be working.
