This is where we can come to talk about game nights, clan matches and so forth.

The clan is open to any and all CAG members who want to join. Currently we play Every Night at 10:00pm EST. Our main CAG vs CAG nights are Tuesday and Sunday at 10pm EST.

We have around 25 Active members who join us for CAG Nights. We are the most fun clan on CAG, no doubt about that.

Here is a nice group shot of some of us.
This game has a fantastic multiplayer community. The CAG group is the best and we have a good turnout most any night of the week. From time to time you can run into a prick or two but for the most part all is well in the world of Socom.
News & Information

The Basics

The Game:
SOCOM 4 is a 2010 third person tactical shooter video game developed by Zipper Interactive and published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The game is slated for a fall 2010 release date on the PlayStation 3. The game will be the sixth title in the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs series and the second for the PlayStation 3.(Source: Wikipedia)
The Developers:
Zipper Interactive is an American video game developer part of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios and is located in Redmond, Washington. It was founded in 1995 by Jim Bosler and Brian Soderberg. It has created many different games, including the popular SOCOM (U.S. Special Operations Command) series of games. SOCOM was created in collaboration with the Naval Special Warfare Command and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. On January 25, 2006, Sony announced that it had acquired Zipper to add it to its group of development studios.(Source: Wikipedia)
Move Support:
On March 10, 2010, at the Sony GDC press conference it was revealed that SOCOM 4 would be playable with the all new PlayStation Move controller. The Move controller, rivals the Wii Remote and allows players to use motion sensor technology to play their favorite games. With the unveiling of the new Move controller, Sony also showed a demo of Socom 4 being played with the controller.(Source: Wikipedia)
The Single Player Plot:
The game takes place in Southeast Asia. The player controls a character simply called the Ops Commander. He's the leader of a 5-person NATO special forces squad deployed near the Strait of Malacca, a key global shipping lane that connects the Pacific and Indian Ocean between Malaysia and Indonesia. He is accompanied by two Westerners, Schweitzer and Wells, as well as two South Korean operatives, Chung and Forty-Five who is a mysterious female vital character in the story. The game's story takes place over a six-day period consisting of two main acts. In the first act, the squad faces an indigenous revolutionary group known as the Naga. However as the story unfolds, the characters uncover that there is more to the conflict than they originally thought.(Source: Wikipedia)
Multiplayer:
The game will also feature an online mode which supports up to 32 players and has been described as an "an all new experience" by Zipper. No further details about the multiplayer mode has been given out by Zipper.(Source: Wikipedia)
Zipper Interactive seems to believe that the Move and the SIXAXIS/DualShock controllers can co-exist online. While there's still a lot of work to be done on the game, the end goal is for players using either controller to play against each other online.(Source: Joystiq)

SOCOM 4 Gametypes/Maps/Modes

Quick Note On Playlists
Normal Mode: SOCOM 4 introduces ranked respawn based games, this is NOT where most CAG members will be playing. You are certainly welcomed to play it if you want, just do not expect most members of the clan to join you in this mode.
Classic Mode:(no respawn, no health regeneration, etc) This is where most clan members will be playing 99% of the time.
Clan Battles: SOCOM 4 introduces a clan battle system where clan members can group up and challenge other clans that appear in a list. If you would like to start up a group and do a clan challenge feel free to do so.

SOCOM 4 Gametypes
Demolition: Bomb Planting/Defusal
:(
Lets Try This Again...

Suppression: Team Deathmatch
Normal Mode: The team that reaches the predetermined kill limit wins, if neither team reaches said limit which ever team has more kills when the timer ends wins.
Classic Mode: Which ever team is eliminated first loses the round, games are best of 11 rounds. In the event that both teams have players alive, which ever team has more kills in the round when the timer ends is awarded the round win.

Bomb Squad: Multipoint Take On Classic SOCOM Demolition
A random member of the attacking team is declared to be the bomb technician, he/she is given a special suit of armor and special weapons. Their job is to defuse 3 bombs randomly assigned to points on the map. The defending team must defend these bombs.
Normal Mode: There is two rounds, which ever team defuses more bombs, or defuses all 3 bombs in the shorter amount of time is awarded the win. The bomb technician is reassigned to another player if killed.
Classic Mode: If all three bombs are defused by the technician the attacking team is awarded the round. If the technician is killed the defendng team wins the round, even if there are other attackers still left alive. Best of 6 rounds (3 attacking, 3 defending) determines the winning team.

Uplink: Zippers Take On Multiple Flag CTF.
3 pieces of intellegence are randomly placed on the map. The attacking team must download the intel and then upload the intel back at their home base. The defending team must stop this from happening. Dropped intel does not automatically go back to its point, it must be reuploaded by the defending team at the correct point on the map.
Normal Mode: Two rounds (1 attacking, 1 defending), which ever team successfully steals more intel or steals all 3 pieces faster wins the game.
Classic Mode: If all three pieces of intel are successfully stolen or all the defending team is dead, the attacking team wins the round. If time runs out without all three pieces of intel stolen or if all the attacking team is dead, the defending team wins.

Last Defense: A Multistep Control Point Variant.
Three points are randomly generated on the map, each team is fighting to control all three points simultaneously, if team sucessfully controls all three points, 2 points near the opposing teams base are revealed. Only one of these points need to be held for a predetermined amount of time, which if done calls down an air strike and ends the game.
Normal Mode:
Classic Mode: A successful bombing of the opposing team's base or elimination of the other team will win the round.

Mulitplayer Maps
Map Names Are Links To Fly Over Videos (These Will Be Replaced With Map Overheads When They Become Available)

Cesspool:
Cesspool takes place in a Southeast Asian slum and surrounding urban decay. We drew inspiration from the campaign mission Means to an End (and a scene or two from the Incredible Hulk film), and especially wanted to incorporate the almost maze-like layout most real world slums seem to have. This was actually the second multiplayer map built for SOCOM 4 (the first map built will sadly never see the light of day).

Collision:
A salvage yard in the middle of a slum, flooded by a broken sewer main, forms the backdrop to this classic meat-grinder. A mound of burning tires brackets one side, while the other is dominated by a poorly-illuminated warehouse full of explosive chemicals. Evidence of a failed UN mission is hidden throughout the area. On this map battle is channeled into a labyrinthine junkyard overlooked by a handful of critical vantage-points. The fighting over these strategic locations tends to get pretty intense, with a lot of tight corners and blind spots.

Sacrifice:
Sacrifice is a map that was assembled with a lot of verticality in mind. Towards the end of production we had a review of all of our multiplayer maps. Sacrifice was about 70 percent complete at that point and originally took place in a large valley. It felt too similar to our previous ruins map “Abandoned”, and overall the map was quite flat. After multiple tests we decided that it just wasn’t working, and we needed to do a full reset. With a fresh start we decided to mix it up, and try to push the vertical aspect for the new layout. After a few weeks of re-assembly we arrived with the level playing out on the side of a cliff. Adding this vertical element really changed up the gameplay; it not only keeps players on their toes, having to watch their flanks, but they have to watch for bullet fire from above as well. Gaining the high ground and defending it is the key to victory on this map.

Bale Out:
A temple courtyard in this jungle village is host to a make-shift supply depot, flanked on either side by streams and clusters of stilted huts, windmills and rice silos. A stalled convoy of trucks winds its way through the village along a dirt road. Strangely desolate, the deserted trucks and abandoned livestock anticipate the impending struggle for control. Fighting on this map will often be confused with much back-and-forth, but the central temple will always be hotly contested for its resupply opportunities.

Outpost:
Outpost takes place in a military forward operating and supply base, based off of the campaign levels "Uninvited Guest" and "Countdown". This map was initially much larger and included more military complex elements (airfields, artillery batteries, etc), but was scaled down when we wanted to ensure SOCOM 4 included smaller, more intimate maps (in the same vein as Desert Glory or Night Stalker). A favorite at Zipper is to play this map with only shotguns and grenades and let the chaos ensue!

Von Heine Express:
Von Heine Express is the largest environment-based map in SOCOM 4, primarily created for players seeking medium- to long-range combat. The train tracks passing through the center of the map create the shortest route between spawns, while the large areas on either side of the tracks are great for flanking enemy positions. However, the wide-open spaces and long sight lines in Von Heine Express create the ideal playground for snipers, so be sure to stick to the rocks and vegetation as you don't want to be caught out in the open in this mission.

Assault & Battery:
Assault & Battery really takes players into the jungle. Its dense nature and overgrown aesthetic encourages players to stalk their prey from the brush; mastering this play style for this map will definitely give you the edge. In some game modes players can risk climbing the center tower to gain access to BXM 500 sniper rifle -- a great reward for anyone willing to expose themselves to a 360 degree threat. The open layout of Assault & Battery can be taxing on new players, but taking the lower routes, hiding in brush, and staying behind tall cover is key to being successful on the battlefield.

Rush Hour:
Set on a heavily-damage elevated freeway, Rush hour is a fast map with clearly defined routes that always lead to the hotly contested center. The daring and skillful can push right up the crumbled overpass smack in the center of the road. Sweeping overpasses provide elevated flanking routes for strategic approaches. Shattered windows and crumbled concrete give access to building interiors perfect for defensive stands or methodic room-to-room clearing.

Port Authority:
Port Authority takes place in and around a shipyard dry dock. We drew inspiration from the shipyards and dry docks in New York City (especially one photograph in particular). This map in particular has lots of good sniping and overwatch areas that can only be reached via climbing, jumping, or vaulting.

Abandoned (Currently Gamestop Exclusive Pre-Order Only):
Abandoned shouldn’t be a stranger to anyone who has been playing SOCOM since the beginning. This MP map has been a staple since the beginning of the franchise, and it’s now been re-envisioned for SOCOM 4. While it looks different than you may remember, great efforts were taken to ensure the layout remains completely intact. Originally released on SOCOM 1 it became a fan favorite, and then returned in SOCOM 2 in the cover of nightfall. Now we’ve taken it back to its roots and over the top. It’s been a while since players have had their hands on this map, so during that time the natural elements have encroach upon it. It’s really overgrown and thus “abandoned”.

1. KNOW YOUR MAPS

2. CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS

Many new players do not know the advantages of altering your game/controller settings.

Tips:
1) Go to Game Options and change your camera setting to "Classic"... this allows you to see much more area around you and makes camping (when need be) much more efficient.
2) Go to Wirelss Controller Settings and Change your settings for your Look Speed, Acceleration, Dead Zone
- "Look Speed"... Move bar all the way to the RIGHT (max)
- "Acceleration"... Move bar all the way to the RIGHT (max)
- "Dead Zone"... Move bar all the way to the LEFT (none)

3. USE ARMOR/WEAPONS THAT WORK FOR YOU

1) Everyone has their own play style...So use the weapons/attachments/armor that you find to best fit you...Many people prefer light armor due to the speed advantage.
2) To get used to aiming I recommend using a SUB MACHINE GUN...The cross hairs on these guns have a small circle radius...As you get more used to the aiming in the game swich to guns that match your playing style.

List of Commonly Used Weapons
Seals
- M4A1
- M14
- HK36
- IW 80-A2 (SAS Faction)
- FAMAS G2 (RPIMA Faction)
- HK7
Mercenaries
- AK-47
- 552
- F90
- STG 77

4. MISC. TIPS FOR DURING GAMEPLAY

1) COMMUNICATE
-Very very important...Without good communication your team is bound to fail, use the areas that I listed above for calling out enemies so your team can help you.

2) FOCUS ON OBJECTIVE & KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PLAYING:
-Far too often I see people simply camping back and not helping out the rest of their team...The objectives are what make you win the game, not sitting back hiding from the enemy.

3) STICK TOGETHER:
-Being singled out is almost a guranteed recipe for disaster.

4) Watch For A HOT GUN:
-A "hot gun" or a "Guns Up" in SOCOM means that as your character is walking around he will suddenly bring is gun up to his face as though he is aiming into it. This means that an enemy is VERY close to you and that you should watch out... (This is a GREAT way to find campers) Make sure you call out your hot gun location for your team.

5) Do The Shuffle!
- A common tactic used in this game is called the "SOCOM shuffle" this is simply shuffling back and fourth when in a gun fight in order to keep your enemy from getting a clear shot on you (which is why we lowered your Dead Zone earlier).

6) Don't Waste Ammo!
- Your ammo in this game is limited and your clips do not fully replenish with a reload like on games such as COD or RSV2, once you come back to your clip that you used earlier you are stuck with the amount of bullets you had in it when you reloaded previously. This tip also means to shoot your gun accurately do not just "pray and spray",try shooting your gun in bursts, this is more accurate and often more efficient than holding down the trigger, especially from a long distance.

7) Watch For Votes
- Voting in SOCOM is often used to help dead players communicate to alive players. A vote means that there is an enemy either behind or near your team mate or yourself. If you have a vote called on you look behind you, and return the favor to your team mates, be careful not to vote them out however.

8) Demolition Tips

How to Win (Seals): Plant the bomb, Difuse a Planted bomb, Kill all enemies
How to Win (Mercs): Plant the bomb, Difuse a Planted bomb, Kill all enemies

- Be smart about planting (make sure the area is clear!).
- Tell your team that you are planting if you are.
- Make sure there is someone watching your plant site for your team.

9) Extraction Tips

How to Win (Seals): Extract Hostages, Kill all enemies
How to Win (Mercs): Kill All Enemies, Allow round time to reach 0:00

Merc Tips
- DO NOT allow the Seals to extract the hostages if you are on Mercenaries. If the Seals are extracting and you cannot kill all of the Seals, run up to the hostages and tell them to "follow" you before the extraction timer runs out.
- Use the Hostages as cover...When playing EXTRACTION (not Escort) neither team wants to kill the hostages so if you the hostages in front of you and the enemy is shooting at you they may kill the hostages on accident, enemy kills of the hostages are good for your team, just make sure you don't kill them.
- Get the hostages quickly at the beginning of the round and hide them in a closed area, or keep them moving so the other team cannot find them.
- Do not force anything, remember the Commandos need to either extract or kill your team to win, if you can stay alive without them extracting then you win.

Seal Tips
- Make sure there is at least 30 seconds on the game clock when trying to extract hostages when on seals side, if game time runs out before extraction time the mercenaries win.
- Use the Hostages as cover. When playing EXTRACTION (not Escort) neither team wants to kill the hostages so if you the hostages in front of you and the enemy is shooting at you they may kill the hostages on accident, enemy kills of the hostages are good for your team, just make sure you don't kill them.

10) Elimination Tips

How to Win (Seals): Kill all enemies
How to Win (Mercs): Kill all enemies

- Stay alive. You only need one person on your team alive to have the match draw out if you are not in posistion to win, draws play a very strategic part in this game mode.

11) Escort Tips

How to Win (Seals): Extract the VIPs, kill all enemies
How to Win (Mercs): Kill the VIPs, kill all enemies

Merc Tips
- Kill The VIPS. That is top priority.
- Watch the Extraction areas.
- Do not force anything, remember the Commandos need to either extract or kill your team to win, if you can stay alive without them extracting then you win.

Seal Tips
- BE VERY CAREFUL with the VIPs, it doesn't take much for these guys to die. Make sure you have several people guarding/escorting them at all times.
- When extracting a timer will go off, as soon as this starts remove the hostages from the extraction area and out of harms way IMMEDIATELY. The VIP's will run back to the extraction by themselves when needed to (about 8 seconds left on timer).

12) Supression Tips

How to Win (Seals): Kill all enemies, or have more kills than the opposing team
How to Win (Mercs): Kill all enemies, or have more kills than the opposing team

- Very similar to a "Team Deathmatch".
- Travel in Groups.
- Be careful with your life, do not go out in the open and risk being shot, remember the team with the most kills wins.

13) Control Tips

How to Win (Seals): Kill all enemies, capture all control points, have more control points than enemy at 0:00
How to Win (Mercs): Kill all enemies, capture all control points, have more control points than enemy at 0:00

- Focus on capturing the points they are top priority.
- Do not attempt to grab a point alone unless you are FOR SURE the area is clear (watch for snipers).

14) Tie Breakers

Which ever team has more kills after the 8 rounds is the winner, this is true for all modes.

15) Clans
- Each clan belongs to its own "Faction" There are seveal Factions which include the U.S., French, British, German, and Spanish.
- Each Faction get their own specific weapon for the seals side (depending on your faction one of these guns will be available to you).
* U.S.: SFCR-LW (Assault Rifle)
* French: FAMAS G2 (Assault Rifle)
* British: IW 80-A2 (Assault Rifle) The CAG clan is this faction.
* German: GMP (Sub Machine Gun)
* Spanish: AMELI (Machine Gun)
- Each Faction also has their own custom armor skin. these are just for looks they do not affect armor strength.
- If you are in a clan you have a clan rank. This rank goes up as you play and win games. Be careful however, leaving a game early harms your "Clan Rank" hence making it hard to raise it.
- To be able to recruit people to your clan you need to either be the Leader or an Officer

MOST IMPORTANTLY.....HAVE FUN!
I was just thinking on judging the interest of another night. Tuesday it is 10pm EST
To let you know, it's also the night we play certain racers (Burnout and MotorStorm: PR, on alternate weeks), but we start at 9pm EST, and I believe most who play it don't own SOCOM (more of them are R2 players).

But sounds good, and I'd be sure to add it to the schedule if you want. ;)
When are you guys playing this weekend? Any games before Sunday evening?
All day every day sounds about right to me. Sometimes I switch it up with some Age of Booty but other than that Socrack.
Haha. That pretty much went how I expected. Seems like a fun game, though. Gotta step up the recruiting!
Hopefully you can bring in some of the Warhawk regulars....

I should have checked this thread. I jumped on to SOCOM last night at 9:45 pm and played for about 30-minutes. Thought the clan night was a bust so I went and played some Gears of War 2.
I did notice that the servers are packed! There is certainly no lack of players and most of the rooms have no respawning.

Aww man just missed you. Yeah servers are packed and we usually have 3 CAG members on at night. Next time you feel like playing shoot me an XMB message!

Same here... I played for a couple of hours starting at 10pm but didn't see anything posted so I just joined some random groups. I'll be playing most of the nights this week so I'll be sure to check in with you guys.

My PSN is condor80

Ugh... damn it, I passed out around the time you guys started. It's been a busy weekend. Almost came home with a Condom Dispenser too. xD

Well I just ordered away from this, it should arrive later in the week. Hopefully this game will be fun and not make me hate everything like MGO sometimes does.

My order from the RLS just came in - game and headset so I am happy. I will practice a bit on this game then join in on the CAG fun :)

Trying to decide whether I should go for the download or disc version for this. Good to see that a bunch of new people are joining up, though.
disc is cheaper used anyways since you cant gameshare it
I dunno for me. Part of me wants it on disc because I can get it cheaper (I will just get it used with coupons), but part of me wants it as a download so I don't have to insert the disc constantly (gets annoying). I will never gameshare it, so I don't care.

I should have SOCOM in my hands in a few days...I'll definitely be up for some CAG matches. Add me!

I'm typically not available on Sunday nights but I could easily play on Tuesdays.

I think the version with the official PS3 mic is the one to get. The mic is outstanding and the combo package seems to be available for cheap at many stores. Target in the US and Amazon.ca in Canada.

alright my clan has accepted the match invitation that yal gave us on our thread and we will play in a either 1 or 2 weeks as we need to get ready. our clan is really good we are well organized and has been around sceince 2004. we are gonna be really toughf we are well trained and practice every wensday and friday. may the best clan win and no cheating please.

Apparently you didn't read my post correctly. I said a "friendly" match. So all this talk about "practice" and how awesome you guys are is not needed.

Here in a few days I'll have my PS3, and am definitely getting this, as I played the living piss out of the Socom series (primarily 2). I'd be interested in getting in.

You will probably play the piss out of this installment as well. Straight crack if you like Socom. Post here when you get it and a clan invite will be waiting.

Man just got done with a marathon gaming session. Ill be back on @ 10pm and could set a 4x4 match against another clan tonight if we have enough peeps. We played with them earlier and they were cool and not overly-good so no worries.

I kinda got hooked on NHL 09 sooo... I may be on or I may not. I'm not giving up that easy though. It's just my stupid internet is killing me again. I'm gonna get it fixed sometime soon...
