So, new 55" Toshiba M550 from the Prime Day deals was delivered today. Got the old TV down and this one up on the wall. Setup was easy and quick. I'd read that there were updates that fix the minor problems people were having so I downloaded all of those (had to do them one search at a time until it said it was up-to-date), then I went through the calibration and settings on the Series X.
I've been working my way through Just Cause 3 and House Flipper. JC3 already looked excellent, and maybe it was just a placebo effect, but it looked amazing on the new screen. Also, while it still has small text, I wasn't straining to read the words on House Flipper anymore.
Since we're leaving for the beach tomorrow, my wife wouldn't really let me play - I got maybe 10 minutes in. I'll tinker with the settings some more once we're back home and try something Series X enhanced and let you all know how it's going.

I'll say this, the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision so far look amazing and definitely worth the $350 even though it won't go above 60hz through HDMI. I'm also going to try playing around with the Bluetooth headphone feature some too.

Injustice and MK are so......weird. The games look AMAZING in cutscenes, like there are times it legit looks like big budget AAA movie with live action actors.

Then the match starts and the characters start moving and......yeah......

Punchcard is up. I bought the NRS bundle. Interesting that MK11 is PC crossinstall while Injustice 2 is console only. I don't own the DLC to play on PC, only console which is a little lame.

Combat animations are NRS's main weakness now. I wish they would get some new blood for that part of the team. It's been a consistent problem so I assume it's just that team's' style.

You can’t go wrong with any of the Tomb Raider games, they were great back when they first came out and i think they still hold up graphically and gameplay wise.

The Tomb Raider Survival Trilogy is $20 and those 3 games and DLC are worth it retail IMO.

I played the first two and enjoyed them. I haven't gotten around to the third yet. I'd consider getting the Definitive Collection for $19.99.

SOTN is one of my favorite games of all time. If you like Super Metroid, you'll like this.

 

I enjoyed Mirror of Fate on 3DS.

 

Pass on Lords of Shadow 1 and 2. There are probably good games there, but the overly shaky camera ruins them.

 

For the two collection games, it's been a long time since I've played any of them. I remember liking Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow in the Advance Collection. There are a lot of games in the Anniversary Collection. May be worth picking up at such a low price.

 

Tomb Raider DE is an easy rec. I haven't played the sequels.

I honestly think MK11 on Series X looks fantastic. It was a nice upgrade IMO.

I have never played the remaster but IMO, no. If it came with additional DLC which the original game never had in the first place, then it might be worth considering. But otherwise, I suggest you play the 360 game first as it runs at an unlocked framerate. 

 

Also, how are people getting these 'Just for you' offers? I have a bunch of games on my wishlist but I've never seen those offers while browsing through it.

I feel like certain characters look great in motion, but they're usually the more over-the-top ones. The Atom and TMNT, for example, have movements that not only represent their characters really well, but they're not awkward looking in combat at all.

If you want to get into the current storyline, I recommend Witch Queen Deluxe.  It gives you the main campaign and season passes for each of the four seasons this year, plus access to the two dungeons being released this year.  We are just over halfway through season 2 of this expansion (season 17 overall) and the seasonal story has just wound down, so you should have time to get caught up on the campaign and last season's and this season's stories before the next season starts.

If you want the oldest available content you need the Legacy Collection. Beyond Light is the highlight there

If you haven't played since vanilla D2 you will be totally lost story-wise no matter what, so you may want to just skip to the current Witch Queen.

If you want to catch up on the story you pretty much need to use YouTube.

On Castlevania, SOTN is the number one recommendation, though if you also have PS4/5 you might want that exclusive version when it's on sale. It gets down to $4 and is pretty much entirely superior, minus the "classic" PS1 voice acting we have in the 360 version, and includes Rondo of Blood. If you do like Metroidvania, the Advanced Collection is the next pick.

If you love the SNES game, that's actually much closer to the NES trilogy and Bloodlines, more action than Metroidvania, and so the Anniversary Collection is the one to get in that case.
