I've been scoping out the Stadia Reddit as the ship is sinking and I'll just say the target audience for these streaming boxes are not people like us. The use case for people who already are invested in console games is closer to a device used only for traveling, specific weird circumstances where a Series console is already an option, or maybe someone desperate to play some console exclusives.

I think there are very few people between "use my smartphone for casual games" and entry level Switch or Xbox Series S.

I agree, seeing as Stadia is dead.

The places where this theoretical audience actually exists are places where the infrastructure isn't up to the task, like India.

The only places where internet is actually good enough for everyone just don't need it, like Korea or Japan.

Out of curiousity, how would everyone say Game Pass/Backlogs have changed your buying habits?  

 

For me, I always had a hard time buying games when they weren't on sale.  However, with game pass I feel less inclined to actually buy games at all due to the steady backlog it provides.  My Xbox games list on the dashboard is getting close to 1,000 titles now.  Just feels insane to me to spend any additional money on new titles when there are so many great games I've not gotten to in the backlog.  Maybe this is me just trying to talk myself out of buying a bunch of stuff as black friday season approaches...

Library on my console says 443 'owned' games, but about 90 of them are 360 games from GWG. Of the ones I paid money for, 90% of them were on sale, probably for less than $10. Game Pass has definitely made me less likely to buy games on Xbox, that budget is now more focused on Switch games (and Steam to a lesser extent). There's also just... so many games via GP that whatever I want, it'll be cheaper later.

I'm hoping they add some functionality like the PSTV had where it's really easy to stream from a real console too, whether in the house or from a remote location. I know phones etc already do that, but a streaming box which perfected that would add some value.

 

With the fire sales on the Series S, this makes me wonder if they'd phase out the S in favor of this thing.

PS+ and Game Pass have ensured that I'm never buying a game for $60+.  Maybe $30 if it's something I must play now.

 

PS+ Premium and the new PlayStation Stars rewards program got me playing my PS5 more.  I just finished up Guardians of the Galaxy on PS+, and started playing Returnal and Death Stranding DC (which I'm really enjoying so far).  On GP I play lots of shorter indie games that I would have missed out on otherwise.

 

There's just way too much to play now.

 

In OG Xbox news, the creator the XboxHD+ HDMI mod that I have in 2 of my consoles has announced a new mod chip that has some absolutely amazing features.  I'm excited to swap out the chips in mine for this new one.

Didn't even know he changed his mind until he said "Hey, I just gave it to my friend instead." Oh well thanks a lot, chump, I thought we had already made a deal here!

I ended up getting a used Series S for $185 plus shipping and tax from a seller on Mercari. Came to under $214 total. Almost went for a new one during the Target sale. I could've gotten it new for about the same price as the used one after returning the controller. Like I explained to someone in a different thread though, I would've just kept it.

It burns that that guy sold it to his friend behind your back. Just keep a lookout on eBay and other sites CAGs here recommend. Hopefully you'll get a better deal soon.

Series S hasn't even had an official price cut yet, it's fine. Streaming box is a harder sell when controllers are $70. A $50 bundle of box and controller is what I would have guessed for price point.

I got a PS5 and 3 controllers from FB marketplace, small miracles happen. And I've ordered a $6 heatsink for the SSD I've been using on my PC for a few months so I can put that in. Bless my ISP no caps so I could download to fill it. I had been lurking for video cards and consoles for weeks, eventually you'll get one.

I'm enjoying Deathloop.  I got through the story with no achievement issues like some people are reporting.  Some of the kill specific achievements have picky requirements and are annoying to unlock, but everything has worked fine.

Was hoping they'd have the whole play on a computer anywhere in the house doodad gimmick so long as it's on the same router gimmick that the 360 and One had with the Series, but nope or better yet if I can stream my Series to my One consoles would be fine and dandy. Then again I bought another Series X for my monitor because I was tired of waiting so I'm just an impatient anomaly.
