The only reason I was saying Shadows of the Empire was better (to stir the pot a little sure) in my opinion is because I actually enjoyed playing it from beginning to end. Jedi Fallen Order is technically a great playing game mired in poor level design, frustrating 3D platforming, and an obsession with Souls like combat. Again this is just an opinion on my part. If others enjoy Fallen Order that's great. I only made it past the first stage and I was not having fun. The game is not for me and I am a pretty big Star Wars fan.

SotE is definitely a “time and place” game, like a lot of the N64 greats. It was fantastic at the time, but absolutely doesn’t hold up well if you play it today.

I'm back on the budget train since I may be leaving my primary job in the next 3-4 months. Backlog time! I really want to go back to Yakuza 0 and then try to play Kiwami I and II.
And I started watching The Last of Us and it's weird watching a video game adaptation being given a big budget and care. Like no dumb stupid slow motion and green screen and calling it good, but actual care. Almost as if the people doing it didn't know this was based on a video game.
I'm imagining the director getting mad at Pedro Pascal for acting too well and wanting him to cut it back.
"Sorry P but that was just way too realistic and heartfelt. Did you even watch Assassin's Creed? I'm sorry but I'm not sure if this is going to work."
The Last of Us is the only game which had such a sad and intense story that I had to put it down for a week. Specifically,

SpoilerPart II is just... grimdark for the sake of it and one of the most depressing stories ever told. But that one part in the original? Wondering if they will have it in the HBO show.
I loved loved loved TLOU 1. I have no intention of ever playing the 2nd game.
I'm going to watch the first episode of TLOU tonight. Curious to see how it turns out and if it's going to hit me in the feels like the game did.
FYI I've been watching Wednesday and that's also really really good.

I'm just enjoying the moment after it aired there were people who were aghast at Sarah not being the blonde and blue eyed child like from the game despite the actor portraying him to be... *frantic arm motions* I'll watch the rest tonight where I'm hoping it'll go back to video game live action adaptation standards with Joel reloading a shotgun and the camera does a slow motion 360 zoom in turn on him jumping back and shooting 5 infected in the head in quick succession as DMX loudly plays.
And I'll eventually get to airplane engine simulator TLOU2. I Already know the big spoiler thing that really I predicted once the trailers were being shown. The only problem is the game doesn't give me the dopamine known as Achievements.
Also it does make me realize a Bioshock TV series could work if people gave a shit, meaning first few seasons are the inception of Rapture to living there and by the end of season two you see the fall downfall. Though then again I'm also torn on the issue where I want TLOU series to be a success so we get cool new game adaptations that aren't terrible for sake of people not giving a , but then again goddamn I'm still pissed at HBO cancelling and removing so many series with really no warning.

I don't think anybody expected what we got in the first game. It was truly a special game.
I already know what happens in the second game and I want no part of it. It's like those gory videos from liveleak. Just because they exist doesn't mean I have to watch it. To me I'm just like,"No thanks! I'm good!" Also feel they dropped the ball in making TLOU a successful franchise. I think the only way they can go back to what they had in the first game is to make a prequel. I mean how successful would the Metal Gear franchise have been if they had killed Snake in the second game and made Raiden the main character?

I think a character change can work fine if handled properly. Raiden bothered people for a couple of reasons. First, the game was advertised as a full Solid Snake game, to the point that they showed Snake playable on the oil rig. Second, was how (intentionally) lame Raiden was in that game, which was not appreciated until later. If they had continued the later Raiden past Revengence no one would have been upset. Also Metal Gear did do a character shift anyways, since 3, Peace Walker, and V aren't Snake. It's sort of cheating since it's a clone situation, but the personalities and supporting casts in those games are different from Solid.
Last of Us definitely feels like a setting that would make sense to shift to totally different characters from game to game, but I guess that's a hard sell. Personally I think they should have the Abby half of 2 first, with the surprise at the mid way section, followed by the Ellie half.

Got stuck on the heir while playing Tunic. After too many attempts, I finally shelved it for now and jumped over to High on Life. As much as I was liking Tunic before hitting a wall, High on Life has been a ton of fun. Disclosure: I’m definitely in to Justin Roiland’s humor
Ohh the heir was really tough. I think I just got lucky. One thing that worked for me was using that thing that creates a duplicate of the fox. The heir then attacks the duplicate while I whacked it from behind.

I played the first one because of all the hype when it came out. There were some good moments but didn’t think it was as good as I expected. I had zero interest in the sequel and won’t be watching the show. I’m not big into zombie stuff anyway.I don't think anybody expected what we got in the first game. It was truly a special game.

Metal Gear was just one example, how successful would the Uncharted series have been if they had killed off Nathan Drake in the second game? Naughty Dog also did a lot of false advertising making people think that Joel would the main playable character in the second game. I'm sure they just wanted the "twist" to hit harder but still kind of shitty. I'm just not sure where they go with the series from here. I trusted Sony and ND and bought a PS4 Pro early in the generation in anticipation of playing TLOU2 with the best graphics possible. I was certainly not expecting this.
Another example is Game of Thrones the tv show. I lost some interest after the first season when they killed off the main character. Thankfully I started getting back into it once I started to form an emotional attachment to some of the other characters. Killing characters can work but there has to be equally strong characters to fill the void.
FYI I didn't mind playing Raiden in MGS2. Thought It was still a great game.

On TLOU front, I will still say that Naughty Dog are some of (if not) the best story-tellers in gaming. Every aspect of their games is top notch (graphics, sound, story, etc.). In terms of gameplay, I find their content to be pretty average. Because of that it tends to take me more out of the experience rather than engaging me in it. God of War felt similar to me. It's very frustrating when you can see how to get through an area or solve a puzzle and have to wait 10-15 minutes to actually do it.
While TLOU II felt very unnecessary from a story standpoint, I can see what they did from a narrative direction and can appreciate that even if it didn't hit me in the feels the way the first one did. I've been excited to see how they would transfer over to film since annoucning this project, as I believe it's the perfect venue for them (take out the gameplay filler and just tell a good story). So far the show is off to a great start and Pedro is pitch-perfect as Joel (I just hope the rest of the cast can keep up).

I feel most PS exclusives have average gameplay. It took Uncharted 4 games before I really had fun playing it. (I played all 4 for the first time back to back). I keep thinking the PS controllers are just weird for me to use and it not being an issue with the games despite all of them being third person action games. They all do great with the stories even if the story isn't something I like.
LoU2 was not a story I liked. It was well told, but didn't like spending 25 hours in a bummer fest. Nothing happy happened in that game.
God of War Ragnarök had some pacing issues. Like previously mentioned, it stopped you for silly puzzles way too often so you would have time to listen to more talking. It was all interesting talking, but there was a lot of it.

In Xbox news: Just a few missions left in Witcher 3 and I'm done. It's been great to go back, but ready for another game. Time to find a couple of good 10 hour games on gamepass.

I haven’t used the PS5 controller but I hated the PS controllers ever since Xbox came out. Their controllers are so more comfortable and feel better in my hands. Congrats on almost finishing The Witcher. It’s a long wonderful game and I took a break between finishing the main game and doing the DLC. I stuck to some short relaxing games for a while afterwards.

After the first game, no, but now? I think they could pass the torch for Uncharted. A different situation. I also didn't think they overly focused on Joel when advertising 2. It definitely looked like Ellie would be the main character. Speculation for a while was that she'd be looking for him for most of the game.
Game of Thrones is a kind of odd choice for this discussion to me. There isn't really a main character there, but if there was I'd say Jon or Daenerys, even if papa Stark gets a lot of screen time early on.
