I figured I’d give Atomic Heart a shot but it feels like something is missing. It sorta reminds me of Bioshock but the story isn’t interesting and after the intro the world just feels empty. Have I not gotten far enough or did anyone else feel this way?

I played it for about 5-7 hours and never got into it and was slightly upset at the space it took up just to be eh.

I’m about two hours in and “eh” is exactly how it feels. I’m not enjoying the fetch quest aspect of the game either.

I'm not getting my expectations high for the MIcrosoft show after being bamboozled by the Sony show.  This would be an opportune time for Microsoft to pleasantly surprise after such a weak showing by Sony.

It's only recently dawned on me how they haven't done shit with Gears this generation. Like outside of Forza, Microsoft is not very good at the whole making use of franchises thing.

It doesn't seem like Gears moves the needle outside of its fan base these days.  I do think that the rumored Gears collection is real.

I haven't seen a Fast and Furious movie since the first one.

I'd love for them to start over and get rid of that cover system, or at least revamp it so i don't have to hold my controller in new and interesting ways so i can run and look at the same time.

Gears needs a reboot. They need to reinvent the gameplay and bring back the old characters (Marcus, Dom, Cole, Baird).

I put hundreds of hours into the original trilogy. I had to force myself to finish the Gears 5 campaign and had no desire to play the MP at all.

I Liked Gears 5 campaign allot or at least much more than 4, which simply boiled down to everyone ignoring Marcus and then it biting them in the ass. Also that ending got me interested to see where it goes since it's the only time they ever had a "player choice" ending and I want to see where it goes from there. Also Horde in 5 was so damn good barring that bullshit swamp level where your base was going to be overrun regardless of where you holed up.

What Gears needs is AI AI AI AI AI $NVDA TO THE MOON

I haven't finished Gears 5 yet as I've only been playing it through co-op with a friend and we just haven't had much desire to try to finish the game at the moment. The open world sections do feel like a slog/filler but I appreciate them trying to make it a little more different. I have no desire to play the multiplayer either (haven't tried Horde mode since Gears 3 so might be interested one of these days). I have not tried Hivebusters yet.

I wonder how much of a crutch the multiplayer component is to the innovation of the single player. I get there is still an audience for the MP but I think we need to move past the traditional cover shooter mechanics at this point or even just kill the competitive multiplayer aspects (keep the co-op though).

Destructible/mobile cover and environmental hazards are cool and but it is still the same "stop and pop" from 2006. Jack's abilities do give you a bit more flexibility in how you approach encounters but I don't think it is enough since they are on cooldowns. I love the way God of War reboot took Nintendo's approach to design with "one button/ability has multiple functions" that create more interesting emergent and experimental gameplay and I hope Gears can do the same thing.

Something I would like to see is more dynamic risk/reward gameplay. Maybe that's not part of the Gears DNA but they gotta do something more with cover. Perhaps the cover system is fine but they just need more mechanics/systems to complement it. I would love to see some kind of suppression system (like Brothers in Arms/Company of Heroes) and aggro system (like Army of Two) to make co-op much more interesting. Hell, I would love it if they could force co-op and you couldn't play it alone; forget the MP and just go hard on co-op (this would make a good case for trying to get someone into Game Pass)

Now I know this is hyperbolic language and I will not keep my hopes up, but as a 90s/00s kid, my mind goes to Banjo-Kazooie or maybe some other dormant Rare IP like Conker or even Viva Pinata.

I finished the game and found it fun enough for a free gamepass game, but it doesn't get much more interesting than what you see at the beginning.  Ultimately, the game is fine, but could have used a little more of everything including enemy types, powers, weapons, and maybe story.  I will say that the end of the game from a story perspective is unusual and not typical, but it's probably not worth slogging through a game you don't like just to see how it plays out.

To this day Viva Piñata remains the biggest surprise in all of my time playing games. I received it as a gift and couldn’t stop playing it. I would love to see a new one.

They have yet to release the most of the Series S|X games that they showed when the console was revealed.  So now we are going to get 2 new surprise announcements for games which may not may not be released for years.  Big deal.

I thought it looked like my type of game but it feels like a slog already. It gave me Bioshock vibes at the beginning, but unlike those games, I’ve already lost interest in the story. The gameplay is another big disappointment. I could push through if it was a fun typical shooter. There’s been some really good games I’ve played on Gamepass in the past year but AtomicHeart and Deathloop have been the biggest letdowns I’ve come across.

I would love to go back and play SoD1 and get more into SoD2, but I'm afraid to do so because I think they would be a huge time sink.  Is there any finality to those games?

I can't speak for 1, because I really don't remember, and I didn't play it much. I have played alot of 2 and it is basically just complete a community then start over somewhere else. so yeah huge time sink with fighting to get better bases/weapons etc. beat the plague hearts and move on.

Thanks for the insight.  It sounds like (almost) every zombie movie out there.  I.E. never-ending horde of zombies!

I miss Rare. They were an awesome video game maker back in the day.  So much talent. I love a lot of the music in their games. My favorite game of theirs has to be Diddy Kong Racing. This one music track from Diddy Kong Racing will always hold a place in my video game heart as being awesome:

I will always see myself racing that Triceratops up the mountain in the first race "Boss fight" in that game. Such fond memories of a simpler time in my life.

Here is the race:

N64 was hands down the best local MP console ever. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Smash, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, WWF No Mercy and WCW/NWO Revenge, Mario Party, Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. So many memories.

So I bought the bureau XCOM declassified and for some reason I guess I own the hangar 6 dlc from when I owned the game physically in the past. Question is why does it give me the option to install it and also to buy it? Just curious, thought this was weird.
