It's that bad huh? I know the PS4 version is better and has online play, but I'd probably only ever play it solo to begin with.  Having it on a handheld is more convenient as well.

I was able to grab a lot of the Minis.  Each pack was $6 during the Prime Day sales.

It's good to give a head's up to people about this. I really think Activision/Nintendo dropped the ball here. I think the most straightforward approach here would have been for the Bowser & Donkey Kong Amiibos to unlock their respective characters in Skylanders on 3DS/Wii U, than to make...

Also it's worth nothing that the Trap Team (3DS) and Swap Force (3DS) versions share the same portal.  You can definitely play Giants and Spyro's Adventure on the 3DS using the same portal.
