Decent/good anime at less than $10 a series is more than fantastic in the era of physical media as a luxury.

There are a few ghibli blu's, $15 a pop gives $10 per, shipped. Current amazon is ~$13 per, so a little cheaper.

I am always amazed at how well that show is paced. I love how the show never really strays too far from the core story, while giving most characters an appropriate amount of backstory and characterization.

Unfortunately anime is so diverse there is not really a "best of the best" each niche has it's own shows, and there is limited cross over. azumanga daioh: for slice of life/ zaney fooley cooley(FLCL): for strait off the wall crazy ghost in the shell(movies+SAC) for cerebral cyber punk serial...

very region specific, but the Biddeford ME mardens had a few copies of vampire knight season 1 dvd for $16.74. They were in with the tv series dvds they recently acquired. No idea if any of the other stores have any.
