Gothic 2 is a ton of fun and I liked playing the mage path the best. Playing with melee weapons is screwy in that game so I suggest going down the path of either throwing fireballs or shooting arrows.

Fallout Tactics might suck away a few hours of your free time but once you stop fighting human enemies and start shooting robots for the second half, the game becomes less fun.
