Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

After watching a few more episodes I get her now. She's just kinda bumbling along.

Is Kyoko supposed to be pretty? In anime/manga you can draw the most generic character and portray them as pretty/handsome. So i'm confused if she's an attractive person or unattractive with endearing faults.
Have you watched any more? I'm curious what your impression is after the first 10 or so episodes.

FMA is particularly dark in the original one. The second one isn't quite as dark. Which anime have you seen recently that you thought was goofy or not what you wanted? Will help guide you to something you might like.
I honestly went so long without anime that I couldn't even tell you. I know I wanna check out One Punch Man at some point

I'm about half way through Golden Time and really enjoying the character dynamics. I'm still on the fence about how I feel regarding certain characters and the direction the story is heading, but it's entertaining so far.

On a side note, I'm wasn't sure how I felt about the art style at first but it's growing on me. It looks like they were going for a loose, whimsical styl and so far it's working.

I caught up with Haikyu!! This is some good sports anime. Last episode got me pumped because a certain character finally gets his time in the limelight.

Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju continues to be my pick for anime of the season. I really like anime time pieces that take you a point in history. And this show just continues to get better and better. With all these toxic relationships going on there's bound to be some fallout soon.

But tonight I have Lupin (yippee) and DB Super (boooo). Hopefully Super picks up once we get into this tourney arc.

Erased is still my pick, though Rakugo is interesting me still. I kind of see where things are going in Rakugo, though I guessed them a while back. I'm really more keen on getting out of the past and more about the current. It's really kind of odd that they suddenly spent multiple episodes on this flashback (maybe most of the show if it's only 12 epis). Most shows will have the current plot moving along and just have a few parts where they flashback to give you backstory. At this point, they should've started with this and then morphed into the current time period. So odd.

well Monster is finally completed :D \m/

took some time but i was able to finished the last episodes over the weekend, now im watching Monster Musume and about to start Kids on a Slope. after that not sure what else to watch. romance,comedy,rom/com, musical, sol, action, horror, harem/ecchi .. too much anime not enough time

I finished Monster for the first time several months back and loved it. It gets a little slow at times but it was storytelling at its finest. We need more shows like Monster.

Monster Masume was a guilty pleasure. If you want an over the top ecchi,harem,rom/com look no further. Just keep in mind it's high in the ecchi department. It's up there with Prison School being borderline porn at times. And snake girl is best girl.

Let me know how you liked Kids on the Slope after you finish. It's one of my personal favorites.

Anyone watching Grimgar? I noticed my lack of action anime and was probably going to check out the first episode tonight. Can anyone vouch for it?

Erm well...I'm watching it and have slapped a 6 / 10 on it so far. It's less about action and more about the characters in the story. The action is just there to help push the story along. It starts off slow and I was fairly irritated with it until I read that it gets better later. It's still slow even at 9 episodes in. Maybe it becomes amazing later, but for now I'm not too impressed. Like a chinese street peddler, I'm going to keep pushing Code Geass on you until you watch it, especially since it will scratch your action itch ;)

On another note, I'm wondering if this Skip Beat indiegogo is going to fail. My layman's view is that it has three problems:

1) It's too strongly promoting the dub aspects of the distribution and not the fact that it will have sub-titles

2) It's on indiegogo vs kickstarter, which takes your money up-front and the campaign is setup such that you don't get your money back if it doesn't meet it's goals. The campaign doesn't state what will happen if it doesn't meet it's goals (will they get the money elsewhere and go forward? will they refund? will they go buy lots of tacos?)

3) It isn't international and is strictly North America, which narrows the audience

Anyone else who has contributed or thought about contributing that has a view?

It's sadly most likely going to fail. and they have to promote the dub as it was required for the release.

I was talking to her before the project and told her I didn't like that it was on indiegogo, I was hoping that it would succeed but it would likely find much better success. She has said that she will make sure people get their stuff even if it's not fully funded, but there hasn't been a plan going forward. She seems to have gone silent on the indiegogo page after being quite active so I wouldn't be surprised if she was trying to figure out where to go from here.

as for north america only, well it was the only place she has rights to sell it so there isn't much choice there. Hopefully something changes and we can still get it, as if not I will likely have a part of me that hates every anime fan in existence if this show fails >.<:

What the hell, I'll watch the first episode of Code Geass tonight. I caught up with Lupin, DB Super and Gundam last night so i really don't have anything for tonight. Is the dub any good?

dub for code geass was fine, been a while but it wasn't a throw away dub, they got Johnny Yong Bosch to play the main character Yuri Lowenthal plays the other main male. ect.

Monster was a good series, i like how episodes or characters they showed played some short of part in the main story line.

Monster Masume pure ecchi-ness. i have not watch Prison School waiting for a good BD batch .

i will start Kids on the Slope after i catch up on the weeklies behind two episodes of each anime

Watched the first episode of Code Geass on my break. I enjoyed it and will watch more. Some good action in there.
The Japanese VA's are exceptional for Code Geass, especially Jun Fukuyama. Love him as Lelouch. I never listened to the dub (and only listen to dub if I don't like the japanese VAs). Air Gear the english dub was awesome for example. I haven't re-watched yet, but Corpse Princess had an awful japanese VA set to my ears, so I'm looking forward to the dub.

I'll be irritated if it doesn't make it too, but not much we can do :( If this was more of an investment vs a pre-order, I would be willing to put in more money, but that's not how these things work. I get that she had to promote the dub, but I would've definitely talked about the inclusion of sub-titles in every discussion to not lose the fans who want a subbed release.

5 episodes in and I really like Code Geass so far. Lots of stuff going on and some great characters. LeLouch kinda reminds me of Light Yagami from Death Note. I wonder if the power gets to his head and goes down a similar path. No need to spoil it for me.

My only complaint is the character proportions. I don't care much for the skinny long arms and legs. It's not always like that but in some scenes they went a little overboard with the length of their limbs. It looks ridiculous.

The dub is fine so far. Lots of familiar voices. But I must say they really love Pizza Hut.

heh you either love Clamp's style or you hate it :p

just be glad that unlike 90% of clamps other work code geass actually has an ending :p

One word: CLAMP.

Oh wait, already beaten.

And CCS had an ending, even if it's Movie 2.

Edit: Wait, Chobits had an ending...

Episodic stuff don't really count.

Kobato had an ending too! I guess I'll third the CLAMP art-style. I'm used to it, but when I first saw it I was like....why is everyone a walking pencil? Although when I walked around Tokyo Station....everyone kind of was a walking pencil (wearing a black suit), so it's not like there isn't a basis for it :)

:D/ Happy to have a Code Geass convert! I don't think you'll have any issues with the plot development. It's a great ride. I never noticed the Pizza Hut thing until someone mentioned it to me years later and I re-watched it looking for that. It's such a standard thing here that I didn't even think about the fact that they'd have to get permission to use it in the anime lol

chobits does have an ending, but so many of their series just kind of get ended without concluding anything including their major cross over projects tsubasa chronicles and XXXholic @_@.

xxxholic gets an ending with the OVAs. Well, at least as much of an ending as the manga got. It did irritate me that I had to go hunt down the Tsubasa manga to get to the ending there though. Blood+ got an ending too if I remember, not that it's worth watching.

Finished Golden Time today. Really enjoyed it. Felt like the last few episodes were rushed, but a solid 7/10. Going to start Tordora! tomorrow.

Edit: which version of CG are you all talking about? I've been thinking about that one for awhile.

i've heard tsubasa manga didn't really get an ending at all, I never bothered reading it because of that.

as for blood+ they didn't do that. They did Blood-C which I agree isn't worth watching. However Blood+ I personally find to be worth the watch as blood+ doesn't have a great first quarter but the second half is a good watch if you are in the mood for some monster slaying.

Don't post about torrents.

And it's not realllllllly that funny, because Pizza Hut was a major sponsor. They were simply advertising.
I was reading up on it and apparently even the staff found it amusing. I find it funny as well since anime doesn't normally have blatant "in-show" sponsors like a Nascar race. Seeing the Pizza Hutt logo was more like finding Waldo, so it's fun. If you don't find it funny it's at least whimsical at best, at least for American's.

I know Pizza Hutt in Japan is expensive as fuck. But in the states it's the cheapest pizza you can get outside of Little Caesars.

And it's not just simple advertising. It's like the Taco Bell references in Demolition Man. It's a sponsor but it's other role is comedy. The fact that Pizza Hutt even exists in the Code Geass universe is a joke. I've realized that and I'm only 7 episodes in.

Plus All that pizza gives CC that twearkin' butt. In fact everyone seems to have shapely asses in this show. It's gotta be the pizza.

Blah, I was going to post in here my theory for Erased with spoiler tags before this episode, but I don't know how to do spoilers so I didn't. Man, I would have been 100% right though! I knew it!! lol. It was the only logical conclusion and I had my suspicion since episode 2 or whenever it was he did his first time jump to the distant past. Very curious how the last two episodes go...

Tried Toradora, just cannot get into it. Main female lead is too whiny and rude.
she gets better.

she is one of the few tsundare characters I feel is actually a well rounded person by the end instead of just a tsundare character that needs to be locked up and have the key thrown away.

I liked Toradora for it's more dramatic parts of the story - I prefer a romcom without comedy, lol...  Palm-Top Tiger was awesome, though - that's waifu material, right there!

Going to come back to this one. What I really want is OPM season 2, or something similar.

EDIT: thinking about giving Noragami a chance.

I didn't like Taiga even till the end. She softens up but you still have to suffer through most of the show with her shitty attitude. Not a fan.

With that said I liked Toradora but didn't love it. It's an okay show I guess. I really don't remember too much about it other than I hated Taiga. If anything it's a rom/com that has an ending and some closure.

I also didn't like Taiga, but the other characters made up for it. I generally dislike tsundere-types. Minori was awesome...

i'm currently watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure due to a watch bet.

I would say, that is something you can watch if you want more one punch like stuff. One punch was better but over the top action/reactions and what not are covered in jojo.

I agree. If you want a good action anime there's no better suggestion than JoJo. It lacks the comedy that OPM has but the animation is solid and the battles will have you at the edge of your seat.

But it doesn't really pick up till the 2nd part, Battle Tendency. Which I think is only 10 episodes in.

And after watching JoJo you will learn to pose:

So..Jojo or Code Geass? Leaning more towards CG I think, but with my commute these days, I can give them all a try. As for Toradora, I might come back to it a bit later, but right now, it's definitely on the back burner.

JoJo...... just trust me
I literally just downloaded CG R1 and put the first four episodes on my phone.

Awkward...

I promise to make my very next series Jojo! I have to make quick decisions in the mornings before my commute (6am - 7:30)
