50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Why do you think BFME2 is part of it? If it is that would be great as I just bought that a few days ago too.

But man, I need to get that $15 back for the Arcade Unplugged double-charge. Hopefully the others are still there and they can see they are only missing the ONE copy that I actually bought.

Edit - Called and the manager was still there (poor guy, looks like he's doing 12 hours today) and he was able to verify that the other copy I allegedly bought was still in the store. So they are holding it for me. Don't really want another but I didn't want to bug him about crediting me, so I'll just take it. It could be good trade fodder for the Star Wars Lethal Alliance I guess ;).

Yeah I went to 4 GR stores in the West LA/Culver City area and called the 2 in the south bay. I couldn't find Dead Rising anywhere.

Wow, Champions: Return to Arms was part of last year's clearance sale so that is probably $7.50 or cheaper now.

And I'll try to work my way through the posts since I last updated the OP to find the newly reported games, but it will probably happen tomorrow morning. Most BB are going to be closing within the next couple of hours anyway.

Well, you're going to have to ask one way or the other, but there is a way to find out without making them hit "Total" and then have to void the transaction (this will not make employees happy).

Just ask them to check the price (look up in the computer or scan) on the game you are curious about. If it ends in anything other than $.99 (ie. .98), then there's a really good chance that it's going to ring up at 50% off that price.

I'll add this to the OP as well as it is an easy method to check to see if something is on clearance without pissing off the employees.
 
I called about twelve BBs to find one that still sold new games and eventually found ONE that did.

I picked up Lego Star Wars II and NFS Carbon for 360.

If anyone wants to trade another 360 or PS3 game for NFS Carbon I'd be happy to. It's still sealed.

No no no no! They do have nearly all of those, but those were just the ones that weren't in Shipwreck's list (as of the time I printed it). There's loads more. They just put them all up in front so get there ASAP if you want stuff. There was a small initial rush to buy things this morning, but it was pretty dead the rest of the day. Im between when I was there at noon and again at 4pm no one bought a thing according to the manager.

They DO NOT have Shadow Hearts FtNW - I would have bought that when it dropped to $19.99 if so. As it was I bought their only used copy for $17.99 I believe. I also bought the only Tales (and the only Xeno III), sorry. And I do not believe they had Drakengard 2 - I don't remember seeing it on the list. And since I helped the manager pull the games I'm fairly sure of that ;).

$30. Acutally, the manager price adjusted it for me, so it's YMMV. I guess it was just my lucky day.

I asked her as I went into the store if they were having the 50% off say on all new games, and she confirmed it. When the game rung up at full price she looked confused and fiddle around with the comp for a bit....then just took $29.99 off my balance.

Not much that I really want to justify the trip and the gas. I think I'll just wait till when I get up there in (at least) a few weeks or when they drop to 75% off ;)

Uh, guess you haven't been reading this thread much. There isn't no "few weeks" left. On March 11th they will most likely send all their new stock away. At that time they will have a rental DVD clearance and close for good on March 18th. So I'd get up there at least by next week if I were you if there's any interest at all. We certainly aren't going to get the 75% off, unfortunately. It's too bad they didn't start this a couple months ago as maybe they'd hit 75% now and I could use it to transfer more credit to Gamecrazy. But I'll do OK anyway ;).

I just got back from hitting three Gamerush locations after dropping off my wife & mother in law at Walmart.

This was my total haul for today:

Call Of Cthulu (Xbox) $7.50
Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC) (a little less than $30)
Hitman: Blood Money $20
World Series Of Poker: Tournament Of Champions (X360) $15
Sonic Mega Collection (GC) $5
Jak X Combat Racing $10
Justice League Heroes $15

The second location that I went to (First/Nees in Fresno CA) had a few oddball things out on the clearance racks that didn't belong. Suikoden V was out there for $20 & they had the Guitar Hero bundle marked at $79.99 in the clearance racks. It was likely a mistake on the store's part as when inquiring, they stated they only had one in stock & it was 'defective' (more than likely on hold for an employee)

One game I did notice that was on clearance that is not on the list is Suidoken Tactics. It was going for either $10 or $15 if I'm not mistaken. Of the three stores that I visited, they did have a few copies of Drakengard 2 & Tales Of The Abyss in stock, along with plenty of Hitman 2: Blood Money for the X360.

There are a total of 6 locations in my local area, so I will scout for more (I was still looking for a copy of Total Overdose for the Xbox).
 
Shipwreck - I was wrong about the Kirby game for the GBA. It is Nightmare in Dreamland, not Amazing Mirror :oops:. I have it right here...

OK, in going through my haul I've decided that I don't really want two of the games. Those being both for the [highlight]PS2 - Godfather LE, and NFL Street 3[/highlight]. I was so impressed seeing NFL Street 3 on clearance (since it seemed to me it just came out) that I grabbed it. But now I realize I never really played the others (though I bought them) so what's the point, really? :rofl:

So, if anyone wants them let me know. Say, cost + shipping + PayPal fees = [highlight]$19 shipped[/highlight]? Probably not a lot of takers. If not, I will go through the painful process of a GR return. I just need to make sure the manager isn't there when I do so, I kind of harassed him enough today. So I'll probably return Sunday - PM me before then if you are interested in them.

The manager actually told me an interesting thing today. Apparently their quarterly bonuses are based on the store sales. He said during the last clearance, and particularly when it hit 75%, that they sold so much stuff they got the biggest bonus they'd ever had as a result. I'm guessing this sale will do the same. And since I've been funneling all my trade-in credit (obtained mostly from trading at other Blockbusters) pretty much ALL to his store, he should be happy with me. Maybe that's why he's been (generally) helpful the last several months (the credit theft incident notwithstanding). Of course, it still wasn't enough to save the store ;).

He also told me there is a customer that comes in who has amassed as much as $35,000 in credit. He said he got a lot of that via trading in DVD's WAY back when they gave $8 minimum for them. (I can't remember the last time someone posted a DVD trade-in quote here.) Good lord, I'm a fucking amateur compared to that! Apparently the guy has bought 9 360's over the last year from GR. Wow... I had no idea... Remember when we heard people who had traded over $10,000 worth of stuff were getting banned in certain districts? Not here I guess :lol:.

Another Blockbuster sale another disappointment. My local Blockbuster only had a total of 6 new games for sale, and none of them were on the list. Which is par for the course with this location (Reading, PA). It's awful! Congrats to anyone who got in.

I assume you searched the shelves for games that are on the list? I found many games on the regular shelves that had not been pulled yet.

I looked everywhere, just in case I missed something. I noticed that the only section of this Blockbuster that sells the games is behind glass. 6 new games, a few acessories and about 20+ used games. I get the impression that they only push used games here.
 
Also, on a side note.

At one GameRush I saw a Wii nunchuck and a Wii Classic controller. (I don't have a Wii though....maybe they had one to use credit on...hmmm)

I also saw a USED PS3 at one for $525 I believe.

I think I still have like $140 in credit...but not sure if I want these 50% off games or soemthing like Guitar Hero (never played it) and something else eventually.

Yes, buy it. It does have a hiccup in the frame rate here and there but it is still really good arcade racing, especially for 10 bucks.
 
This is a bit of a random question, but how many of you have been seeing non Greatest Hits or Player's Choice titles at GameRush?

Case in point: I found my sister a copy of Jak 3 that was pre-GH yesterday, and I wasn't very surprised. What did surprise me was was when we found multiple copies of the original Ratchet and Clank in its non-GH packaging at the sme store. Maybe GameRush isn't very good at moving the new titles? ;)

Also, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is totally worth every penny I spent on it. Thanks again, guys. :D

Saw Custom Robo (not Chibi-Robo, which was one of the games i was hoping for) for 7.50, I believe. Only picked up Justice League Heroes... was really hoping to find MGS 3 Subsistence.

Yeah I have found a lot of non-gh titles there like Sly 1, Luigi's Mansion and some others, a long time after they hit greatest hits/player's choice.
 
Do we know yet if this is a sale or a clearance? If a sale, is there any end date?

Since it's looking more and more like my credit will be difficult to dump, I'll probably go grab one of the Hulk: UDs I saw for GC there.

I bought PSU for $20, and it was clearly maked with a "CLEARANCE" sticker. But, like always, take that with a grain of salt. GR just might be out of "SALE" stickers.

I'm going to guess clearance, since it seems that GameRush is trying to get out of selling new games. The stores in my area haven't had new games in for months, but that might just be my experience.

Also, get Hulk. It's worth the $15. :D

As for the sale vs clearance thing, my store still has a $5 NHL 2K6 for Xbox from the LAST sale/clearance, so I assume it will be ongoing until the stuff is gone (barring GH/PH re-releases where certain games might get bumped back to the new MSRP eventually). But I see what you are saying Botticus - there have been temporary sales in the past (ah, remember that 50% off one on Gamecube titles?). This just seems too much like last summer's clearance so I'm going to go with that, though.

Just called my local Blockbuster, and they were a bit confused over how to give me trade-in prices. They kept saying they didn't carry Monster Rancher Evo so they weren't sure they would take it (WTF??) but if they did it would be $19. I'm going to assume she was just confused and not that they stopped taking game trades at every BB around me :cry:. I mean, I've traded at Blockbusters in states that don't even have GR before. However, I haven't traded at this particular location since last June, so who the hell knows. I'm not sure I want to trade that anyway, as my copy was $13.xx from CC, not the $10 one from TRU. That seems like such little profit for a BB/GR trade - I'm used to much better ;).

Also, One Piece Pirate's Carnival for PS2 gets $9.50. Keep in mind those are available in quantity at most Best Buys for $5 after the Gamepro coupon - they've been there for months. That one I'll probably do for sure - a near double and I can get more easily enough.

I actually need to get MORE credit, believe it or not, as there are a few more things I want to get at GR.

There wasn't much. A few copies of MGS3 (which I should have grabbed), and one more copy of Xenosaga III. I'm betting other stores around the island have more. I'll check other stores later.

Before the lady rung up the games, I asked her if she knew if the store was participating in the 50% thing, and she told me yes, meaning that's one store employee who stays in touch with her job. I asked her if she knew when this was ending, and she said that they don't get an 'end' date in advance, corporate just tells them to end it whenever they decide to end it.

I saw Suikoden V on the 50% clearance table at the game rush I went to earlier. Maybe it's a ymmv title but it was definitely there.
