how many of us here have jobs????
It doesn't take a genius to be successful - only the persistence and drive to succeed.
how many of us really have that persistence and drive to succeed that u're talking about

I'm an 8th grade teacher at a Chicago Public School who now has his summer off and will be playing videogames as much as possible (when not taking care of my two kids and spending time with the wife). I'm also going to be working at Gamestop 8 hours a week for the summer, so I can get the discount.

As for the drive, many of us have it and don't know it. You need to find something worthwhile that you love to do,and you will suddenly discover a drive you didn't know you had...that's what teaching did for me.

Oh yeah, and the summers off to play videogames until 2 am kicks major ass.

I'm a corporate sellout. Corporate America is easy to succeed in if you are willing to get an advanced degree (MBA/MS) and play the games. It's not worth it, but it's easy.
I work at meijer getting carts

at least its only a summer job

didn't that training suck?

I mean I am getting carts yet they show me a 6 hour video on how to bag and be a cashier yet they dont have baggers and I am not old enough to be a cashier
I never had any training. I think they were just too busy to bother. Not that it takes any skill to run a register or a HiLo.

Sadly, not enough I'm afraid to say. I honestly think that people can achieve great things but the masses are too afraid to try. Hokey as it sounds, Yoda's advice has kept me going for a long time - do or do not; there is no try. It's frustrating to see friends and family bitch and complain about how miserable their lives are and everytime I tell them that it doesn't have to be that way, they say, well, you've never had a hard life like us so what do you know and continue on bitching. The thing is, I do know what it's like to be poor (there was a time at which I was actually homeless), I do know what it's like to hate your job and such and I think that makes me qualified enough to tell them how they can get out of their rut. Unfortunately you can only tell ppl for so long without sounding like a nag or a showoff so if I think the message isn't being received then I shut up. I've given them my advice/opinion but if they won't take it, that can't be helped. I won't baby anyone. Never have, never will. But everyone expects to 'get rich quick' without paying their dues but if you never pay your dues then how do you expect to get rich? And that is why most everyone will fail.

My mom and dad keep telling me to be cheerful all the time, 'cus good luck comes to the cheerful and happy ones. And i think that's true. No one in our family has bitched about how hard life is, and our lifves r slowly getting better and better.

I work at a Community College Library in Mission College as a student worker under the Co-op (I think that is how you spell it) program. Is pretty good job, since I am also attending classes here for my Liberal Arts/Librarian Degree. I have been working here for 3 years, which is sad really. I have changed my major twice, and I have to take other classes that weren't in my other requirement. Another year or two for a transfer. :(

Oh well, I do jack squat in there and post all day. The only problem I have is when I have to find a loop hole in the computer system so that some people are able to check out books if they don't have the necesary paper book.

Figured I should bump this. Is there an official "CAG's Jobs" thread or not? This is the best I could find.

I'm a board operator/production assistant/occassional DJ/color commentator come later this month at a Marconi Award nominated radio station...2 of them, actually.

Damn, 2 year old thread.. I've changed jobs since. I'm a.. uh.. computer guy. I work for a pretty big company and then I've got a few clients of my own.

I make sure prescriptions are filled correctly. I also get to predict what people have what problems based on what drugs they get prescribed...weeeeee. Also AIDS, and talking about any of it gets me in massive trouble with the law.

That's awesome....

My dream job would be to do art, mainly videogame manual/box/in-game art (like in most JRPG's) but my location is bad, I have a kid so I can't run off to give it my all, and the last reason is I have no idea where to start...

I actually have the job I told myself in High School I would only do as a hobby

I'm a Web Standards Nazi Web Designer.

Well,

I work retail and make a decent amount. I'm also a writer though, for Decoymusic and another site, soon. I don't make much from it but it's what I want to do, so I'm trying to get as much practice in as I can. Any tips for an aspiring writer?

I currently work at an independent video game store called FX Video Game Exchange.

other than that, I attend college full time.

As a lot of the web designers should be, but aren't.

I work IT at a semi-large insurance company. My "official" title is Application Developer / Java, but I have done very little Java since I've been here. A lot of their applications are web based, and I tend to be doing the GUI/UI of these applications. I enjoy working with computers, but programming day in, day out is not my style, so I'm holding out on this until something better comes along.

I also do some freelance work (web design), which is a blast as long as you get a decent client. Clients can be unreliable sometimes, which does cause stress.

I also taught piano, up until a recent car accident left me injured. I really hate that I can't do this, there's no deadlines, no annoying bosses, no paperwork, they're just kids. Sure you get a bratty kid here and there, but I'd much rather deal with a bratty kid than to have a boss hanging over your neck. And the pay is good too.

I am helping America become even fatter.

My job is good and easy money for now but I plan on going back to college and getting into the medical field. :D
