SONY WON!!! THEY WON E3!!!
Hahaha.

PS4 for next gen it is then. Looks like PSN+ will be required for multiplayer for PS4. Now we need to see how much the games will cost.

Destiny looked good, good thing it's also coming to the 360.

At that price I may actually bu a PS4 at launch.  Fuck it, might as well if only to vote with money that the shit Microsoft's trying won't fly.

I also like how after the 3.0 upgrade I can still easily bypass filters.

went to target and bought some goo gone that was on sale for a buck then realized i forgot what i needed it for, then got home and realized i should have bought more at that price.

don't know if Im going to buy a ps4 at lauch since the pay to play online and all.the one is out of the question though. Not buying that.Ill probably just finish up (start) my backlog.

I'm getting both and ending this pointless debate!

:whee:

Nice to read that Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia can in #1 in the US for Childrens Hospitals.

$500 is definitely overpriced.

Whats the OTT think of Skyfall? Its on sale for $12 at Target this week and I'm considering the blind buy, even though I wasnt a huge fan of Casino Royale of QoS.
http://www.familyvideo.com/catalog/product_used.php?products_id=-412833

Family Video has it used for like 7 bucks along with a ton of other newer movies for cheap.

Thanks for mentioning that, Casey. I got Fright Night, Django Unchained, ZD30, and Lincoln for $28.

Dammit, I was really hoping to not buy a launch system this time around.  But looks like I'm probably going to bite.  Since my PS3 launch system JUST crapped out on me about a month ago.  Just need to hold it together long enough for PS4.  I'm hoping I'll be able to get back to the titles I miss in the meantime.

I'm also not enthused by the announcement of online pay, but you do get all the other PS+ benefits, so at less than $5 a month I guess I can suck it up.  I'm not huge into online play anyway, so I might end up just purchasing a month here and there depending on what titles I end up getting.

I'll buy the PS4. (I've never owned an XBox of any kind).

But not at launch. There's no way I could finish everything in my backlog by December, and there's still no backward compatibility.

Hooking up two consoles and remembering which input goes where, and keeping track of all the extra controllers is too much of a pain. (for me)

PS + is really a great deal, I've had it for two years now. The  (at least) one free game a month makes the $50 a year worth it. I could care less about the online play. The only time I do that is when it's required in certain games.

I despise the playstation controller. That will always keep me away from the PS4.

Like I said, I'm probably going to go steambox + 360 controller.

Hopefully they keep giving out free games with the ps4.

Free this month will be Uncharted 3, Deus Ex and some others. I'm going to do that PS Home e3 promo thing so I can get a free month of ps+ to play them.

My brother and I talked about possibly going steambox but we forgot about that after seeing the PS4.

WELP. I'm not sure what this means in practice, but it doesn't sound the same as last night.

http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/11/4419476/playstation-4-third-party-publishers-can-dictate-their-own-drm-terms
"This policy sounds similar to what exists on PlayStation 3 today — for example, EA notably implemented an Online Pass system as a method for limiting online access to secondhand purchasers. Publishers also have similar freedom on PCs, where consumers can choose to support games whose DRM policies they find appropriate"

This is what I'm thinking. Publishers already dictate their own policies on PC and to some degree on console. However, Sony as a first party developer going with little to no DRM will hopefully influence other prublishers to keep DRM to a minimum on their system.

I think it just means the PS4 maintains the status quo from the PS3.

The PS3 does have DRM limits. Can only install digital games on so many consoles, need online pass, etc. The PS4 will still have that. But it doesn't appear to have a all encompasing system like the Xbox one that looks at every aspect of DRM down to if you can only trade in your used games at Gamestop and Amazon.

Like, I see the difference between the two as the difference between the Kindle and a blu-ray movie. The PS4 uses the basic blu system. You buy a blu, it may have some DRM to try to prevent you from copying, it may have some code in the case that allows you to download bonus content and special featues one time. Maybe a one time digital download of the movie itself. But the core movie on the disc you can give to a friend or trade in. You own the blu-ray and the movie on it to do what you like.

With a Kindle, you bought the book in digital format but Amazon locks that market so they have extra rights. For example, they can make changes to the book you just bought. And they can limit you sharing with a friend for fourteen days. And you can't trade it in compared if you bought an actual book. With the Xbox you buy a disc but that's just a content delivery tool. The platform itself is aligning from a DRM standpoint closer to a Kindle in that they may, and the word is may, limit when you can trade in a game, when and how long a friend can borrow a game, etc.

And note, this is only with physical copies. On either platform when you download a game you are basically locked into the digtial DRM model. I think what concerns me and other people is the established concept on who "owns" a physcial copy of a game and the "rights" you have with a physical copy. When you buy a phsical DVD, CD, book, or a game, those "rights" are pretty much well established. Imgine if Sony had introduced blu-ray and then stated once you buy a blu new you'd only be able to sell the movie used at Amazon, Gamestop, BestBuy and other "participating" retailers. It would bother people because it changes the rights relationship. Even if they never really enforced it.

And it comes down to a matter of perspective. Is a disc the content you own, or is it just a digital delivery system? For example, if I have a file on my USB, It's not the USB that's the content, it's the file. Or look at some people who go nuts over is DLC is on disc or not? I prefer a company put future DLC on disc and just make me download a 100kB key to unlock it. I would prefer that than having to download a 2 Gig update that takes up hard drive space. But I at least understand the arguiment.

It appears to me that MS, being a software company, is putting a line in the sand and arguing that a disc is just a content delivery system. All games need to be installed, you have limits on what you can do with that game, whatever. Sony is sticking to the traditional model that the game is the disc. They both have every right to do this. And as consumers we have every right not to weigh the issues and choose to buy or not. (Though, as an aside, I am concerned that MS's used game policy is anti-competitive and may violate anti-trust law. But that's another story.)

***************************

This is how the big three approached E3 this year IMO.

Microsoft: "Americans love the xbox like grandma and apple pie."

Sony: "Apples! How do you like them apples!"

Nintendo: "Err, who wants to play Mario Kart? Anybody?"

One more comment, I listened to three podcasts after MS revealed their DRM policy in May. Joystiq, Cagcast, and Rebel FM. And all three of them totally missed how important this issue was to players. Maybe because they're more involved in the games industry. But all three shrugged their shoulders, said some gamers seemed disgruntled, and moved on. I think Cheapy at least said that the used game market is important for cheap games. But that was it. Both Joystiq and Rebel, actual journalistic groups, appeared to miss the importance of the story.

Ah, that update wasn't there before. That makes much more sense. I really don't get Microsoft's strategy here, and it seems to me that third-party publishers would want to distance themselves from DRM practices on consoles.

Especially when you consider that EA has stopped with the Online Pass bullshit and also Ubi has started moving away from DRM for their titles as well. Publishers are slowly starting to realize that DRM is bad, so Microsoft heralding shit that even EA and Ubi have dropped is nothing short of full retard.

Here's my current PS3 libary (spelling intentional):

- 3D Dot Game Heroes

- Alpha Protocol

- Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut

- Demon's Souls

- Front Mission Evolved

- The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection

- inFamous

- Little Big Planet

- Little Big Planet 2

- Metal Gear Solid 4

- NieR

- Valkyria Chronicles

- Yakuza: Dead Souls

I plan on picking up Dark Souls, Yakuza 4 and inFamous 2 when I can, but does anyone got any other suggestions?

I feel the same about the Xbox controller. I've tried many times to get used to it, but PS controllers feel so much better to me.

Hey guys, just dropping in to ask what consoles you guys are getting so that I can game with my friends on the OTT! I think I will get all of them so that I am not separated from anyone :).

Sold off 99% of my 360 collection, bought a year of PS+, full Last of Us reserve and have money left over for PS4.

fuck you, MS and your shitty new drm policy. I'm voting with my wallet. Even if it doesn't make any difference, I like to stand by my principles.

Have been watching Simpsons DVDs while I fold the laundry lately.

It's amazing what a 5 year old find funny.

She's still laughing at this days later.

It's exactly the same as it was on old CAG. Just post the link.

Edit: At least it was in the last day or so. I don't know why/how it changed.

What did you keep?

---

I made a list of the games I have and I was surprised how small it was. I borrow games from my brothers so that helps a lot.

PS3
The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection (need to finish SotC)
3D Dot Game Heroes (currently playing, almost done)

Xbox 360
Madden 13 (still play)
UFC 3 (still play)
Saints Row the Third: Full Package (playing co-op with brother)
Skyrim (done but brother playing it)

Hitman Blood Money (probably going on ebay soon)

DJ Hero (the music games are just there but people play them ocasionally)
Guitar Hero 3
Def Jam Rapster

Also got some digital games. A handful of PSN+ games and for xbox I got Left for Dead 2 and Alan Wake.

I could not stop laughing at the guy in the Xbox One thread who said Xbox One was breaking preorder records, and then linked to Blockbuster and a supermarket chain to back up his claim. And he was being serious.

I just finished watching this episode of Larry Sanders. It was fucking great. I fucking love Jeffrey Tambor.

I sold off 99% of my 360 collection, too.  Haha.

I still have all of my  games, but I don't think I'll be popping those in any time soon.  I also let my Gold subscription end.  Tempted to toss my 360 out my window.

I kept some 360 games that I foresee turning collectable, though.

Stolen from SD and posted here in case stinkin still lurks. 21 bucks for the complete series of fringe on bd after tax and shipping is pretty good. Never watched the show, but at that price I figured it was worth snagging.

Hoping that WB doesn't notice the mistake and ships it.
Fuck, why the hell not. Thanks for posting this, I've been meaning to check out the show but hell that's a low barrier of entry.

How is that game going for $10 now? My copy got crushed by my kids, and I didn't care at the time. I would have loved to have gotten $10 for it.

It's like Christmas at the Ackbar house today. Had a pile of boxes on my step. Got My 560 Boosts, new shoes, X-Wing minatures and some household supplies delivered.

Gotta mow the lawn before sunset because heavy rains the next two days.

Blood Dragon = A distillation of the best 80's & 90's childhood memories.   Just as I thought it was getting repetitive, it fucking blew me away with
rainbows, lasers, and a talking dragon.
If I had enjoyed it anymore I would have cried.

Picked up Far Cry 3 today.  Outside of GTA V, this is probably my last current-gen game purchase.  Or at least my last one for 360, as I may opt for a PS3 instead of PS4 this holiday.

We have a great NBA playoff and it looks like we're gonna have a great NHL playoff. But the Blackhawks just wasted a 5 on 3 situation for nearly a minute and a half.

So far the stuff I've been most interested at E3 are.

Titanfall

Destiny

Battlefield 3

Batman

Watch Dogs

Below

Saints Row 4

Plus a few things for the 3DS I was looking forward to.

Ooo, yes.  I want Dragon's Dogmer.
