...ahem...sounded funny in my head, at least.
That's going to be stuck in my head all day.

Hi Josh! You're using the Sniper class incorrectly if you thought that it is an inferior class. It's the best class to have. One sniper can take out four or more enemies by him/herself...in one rotation. Two snipers in your squad will own all the enemies in the game regardless of the difficulty settings. You just need to spec them correctly. Try this out:

Take Squad Site. Squad site allows you to shoot any enemies on the map as long as your squadmates can see them, and you must have a clear line-of-site on the targets.

Take Gunslinger over Damned Good Ground, and equip your snipers with a laser pistol ASAP and then plasma pistol later on. The power damage from the laser pistol will be better than the assault rifles during the first couple of months.

Take Battle Scanner on both snipers over Disabling shot.

Take Executioner over Opportunist as this will help you immensely by finishing off those hard to hit enemies showing up as soon as midway through the game.

Finally, take In The Zone on for one sniper and Double Tap on the other. With In The Zone, killing a flanked or discovered enemy does NOT count as a move, so you can just keep killing in that rotation as long as you still have ammo. With the Ammo Conservation research done later, you will have a few more shots.

XCOM is a brilliant game, and you will be playing through the game a few times on various difficulties and by starting out on different continents for their benefits. So why not try out all of the options on your snipers to see what works and what doesn't for you.

Good luck!

XCom experts of CAG: is the sniper class vastly inferior to the other classes, or am I using it wrong? The added range (if any) doesn't seem to compensate for the movement restrictions, in my experience.

I was going to but then I realized I have a triple digit PSN backlog alone so I went from buying at least three to none.
Get that logic out of here!

Actually, like you, between my normal PSN collection and my PS+ collection, I have over 100 backlogged digital titles on PSN as well. I never buy games day 1 anymore because of it. But I know I'd snap up Ducktales, Cloudberry, and Stealth Inc the first time their 50% off, so to get them about 37% off on Day 1 is worth it for me, especially since I plan to play all 3 the week they come out.

Well, half the Play games you can pretty easily inform yourself about. Ducktales, is well, a fairly well known classic. Stealth Inc is a port of a well regarded PC game with a much better name called Stealth Bastard that even has a freeware version floating around.
That's a good point. I've been doing as much research as I can on the games. Stealth Bastard has a very good metacritic score. Like you say, I know Ducktales well enough, a fun old school platformer, but also rather short. As for trophies, only Cloudberry Kingdom's have been released (no platinum) but the Ducktales Achievements are also out, however since Xbox changed the way they do Achievements with downloadable games, it's not all that easy to compare the two anymore.

Snipers are godly in Xcom. 2 or 3 fullly lvl'd snipers plus a scout = mass xeno extinction.

I haven't played it since i plat'd it back when it came out, but basically i found 2 builds for them that worked well.

My favorite build:

Squad sight - Allows firing at targets in an ally's sight radius.

(note - this includes reaction shots iirc! which means if you have a sniper or 2 set up to fire on sight, and an enemy pops up to shoot at your guy, he's toast)

Damn Good Groud -- bonus for elevation. Since you want your sniper in a nest for squad sight anyway, you want this.

Disabling Shot -- good in a crunch if you know you can't kill something, at least you can stop him from taking a shot. I don't use it often, but it's saved my hide. If you go with a couple snipers, giving one the battle scanner can be okay early on, but once you're set up you snipes should be so far back it's not as helpful

Opportunist -- Eliminates the Aim penalty on reaction shots, and allows reaction shots to cause critical hits.

(boom! this combined with squad sight makes them death machines. again, don't move them, and just put them on overwatch right at the beginning of the turn. anything that flushes enemies will cause cross-battlefield reaction shots.)

Now, the only hard choice is 'in the zone' or 'double tap'. I give one to each of my 2 snipers. 'in the zone' is amazing for taking out a mass of low hp critters that would otherwise swarm you. You can also, with practice and skill, use it to clean up a battlefield of injured enemies with careful sequencing. However, 'double tap' allows you to take down big enemies. Having one of each helps cover both situations.

The other build is the opposite. Snapshot (move and shoot), gunslinger (pistols), etc. It can work decently, but imo the overwatch sniper(s) is superior.
Thanks guys, I've bookmarked both of your posts and will be using them for reference. :)

Lol, I love that we have completely differing opinions on gunslinger and all the middle tier perks. goes to show you how well balanced xcom is. I do totally disagree with some of your perk choices, but hey, that's a good thing.

we both agree snipers are godly.

If the list I saw somebody post for Stealth Inc. on PS3Trophies is legit than it doesn't have a platinum either. I don't suspect that any of them will. PSN Capcom games generally don't have a plat(Okami is the only one I know of, none for the Street Fighter HD games, D&D Chronicles, RE HD games, etc) so it's almost a given Duck Tales won't have one.

Yeah, I own a Vita and a PSP Go (the Go purchased during Gamestop's used Go sale a few months back), so I love the PSP deals. I bought a 16 gig M2 card for the GO, so I have over 20 games on it plus the 16 gigs on the system. My Vita would probably get stolen at work, so it's good to have a small system like the Go that I can carry in my pocket. Put 30-40 lunch hours into Persona 3 Portable at this point.

Man, Sony Rewards has had their PSN cards (& Sony Entertainment cards) out of stock forever.  :oldman:   I might have to start spending real money on PSN again...

I just sent another complaint to them that they still haven't fixed the ability to redeem the $50 PSN code, and the fact they've been OOS on all other cards for a while now. I don't expect them to fix the problem anytime soon though.

I caved and got Stealth, Inc. to go with my DuckTales preorder. Probably get Ibb & Obb too for co-op with the wife and child. I am a hoarder. And I need help.

On a side note, my son is also now a fan of the actual DuckTales cartoon after the preorder inspired me to get the DVD set.

Yeah that really pissed me off. I gave up holding out hope and used my points toward that Beyond: Two Souls deal the Sony store had, then that got canceled. All my points returned to me, and I waited a couple more weeks adding as many as I could and the PSN codes never came back so I just ordered an 8GB Vita memory card for $8 out of pocket.

But yeah, screw Sony Rewards. They suck.

I haven't earned any points in awhile, but when i got my vita i turned in my points for a 30 gig card and a copy of ZE:VLR. I still have my 30 gig, and sold my copy of ZE after plat'ing it. So really, not a bad deal at all.

It's probably worse if you're waiting to use it on something specific, but if you just go in looking for stuff, it can be nice.

Damn, that really sucks.

Just finished LBP Karting story mode, it was pretty fun albeit frustrating at times.  I wonder how many sales of the Time Savers Pack happened just from trophy whores.

I remember them mentioning they were going to patch to fix the issues of the Zone of Enders HD collection, after googling I see that promised patch was released 6 days ago. Is that claim correct, that it is now back to 60 FPS like the original?

If so maybe this is a sign that we're getting it for PS+... well I can hope.
Not sure how the 2 would correlate, but anything is possible haha.

I bought the retail collection a couple months ago during a Best Buy B2G1 sale, so I'm excited that they've finally come through with a patch that (from what I read on GameFAQs) does a lot to improve the games.

So, is Stealth Inc.  the only guaranteed cross-buy?  I am no longer really buying ps3 psn games (too many) but am buying up vita games like an addict.

unrelated -- does anyone know if Cladun, Cladun X2, or Z.H.P. have ever been on sale on US PSN?   Likely in the future? Unlikely?

Stealth Inc is the only cross-buy in the PSN Play deal.  Cloudberry Kingdom is coming to Vita but cross-buy has not been confirmed or denied.

Cladun and Cladun 2 have both been on sale, but that was when they were at full price, and later got a price drop so I believe they're both currently at the lowest prices they've ever been at.  NIS is OK at putting games on sale, so I think we may see a $5 Cladun in the future.

thank you for the solid answers all around.

as much as i want to support stealth, i think i might save my $ for later indies (specifically, spelunky, terraria, and frozen synapse). if CK was guaranteed cross buy, the play promotion might have loosened my grip on my wallet.

i can wait on cladun/z.h.p. if i have too. it's not like i don't have a backlog.

thanks again.

playing dokura right now... it's fun enough, i guess. fantastic atmosphere. done the first 2 stages (so, 20 levels)... tons of content, but it's not really complex enough yet. but it's cute and charming. hope it gets harder... and i kind of wish i didn't spend $ on it since it's coming to ps+, lol. but whatever. i don't actually mind supporting games i enjoy.

Zone of Enders HD Collection has been on PSN since release. This drop is just saying they're now selling them as two separate games instead of only a bundle. Hopefully they keep the bundle too for savings if you do want to buy both at once.

Ah, didn't realize that. That's an... interesting decision on their part.

All this chatter about ZOE is great but when are we going to finally get Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on PSN and or Plus? My stuffy sense of entitlement is really kicking into high gear with this one. I've owned at least two different iterations of MGS2 and MGS3 over the years. IMO these games are classics, I just don't really want to pay for the same games again for the third time especially when I think about the backlog. Also, I've never played Peace Walker.

Well it's available on PSN but I really don't see free on Plus happening anytime soon. The Legacy Collection just came out like two weeks ago and the HD Collection is 3/5 of the MGS games in the LC which would probably entirely kill whatever sales the new collection is getting.

Good points. In that case, the LC effect will hopefully blow over and maybe we'll see a significant price drop on disk or PSN by next spring. All speculation of course.

I loved Peace Walker on the PSP. It's also is one of my favorite Metal Gear games, and I can't wait to play the HD version of it when it comes to Plus.

playing dokura right now... it's fun enough, i guess. fantastic atmosphere. done the first 2 stages (so, 20 levels)... tons of content, but it's not really complex enough yet. but it's cute and charming. hope it gets harder... and i kind of wish i didn't spend $ on it since it's coming to ps+, lol. but whatever. i don't actually mind supporting games i enjoy.
Dokuro gets quite a bit harder. Its level of difficulty is all over the place, there are 13 worlds, but some of the toughest puzzle levels for me were in World 4 and 5. If you get stuck, don't be afraid to skip and come back later.

For those of you that remember me contemplating then buying Ratchet and Clank HD collections, I just got through the first one and it was pretty fun. Didn't have any trouble with the last boss, but I did beat him in 1 try so I didn't have to worry about running out of ammo.

If the rest of them only get better like you guys said then I can't wait to play the others. I was able to pick up Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time really cheap too. So 1 game down 4 to go! Thanks again for the recommendations.

Trust me, they get so much better, and this is coming from someone that loved R&C1. In my opinion Up Your Arsenal is the pinnacle of everything the series does (best writing, humor, upgrade mechanics, weapons, and level design), followed closely by A Crack in Time which is just gorgeous to look at (if Pixar ever makes a game, Insomniac needs to be involved). So basically, you're in for a treat if you liked 1 ^_^

Last Chance (Leaving on 7/30)

Instant Game Collection
-Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward

They're putting just the Thomas Was Alone DLC on sale?  Lame, missed the game whenever it was on sale and would probably have grabbed both otherwise. :p

Sounds awesome!

And yay for Metal Slug. I'm always down for some Metal Slug. Wasted countless amounts of quarters at the arcade for those games when I was a kid haha. It's pretty lame they just discounted the dlc for Thomas Was Alone though. :p
