Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Slightly off topic; when I went in looking for the POGs yesterday I also went ahead and picked up two used Blu Ray movies (Nightmare Before Christmas for the wife, Incredible Hulk for myself). Anyway, they were both in the generic Blockbuster DVD cases (just with the slips of paper that say they were Blu Rays) so I ask the cashier if maybe they have any extra Blu Ray sized cases lying around. To my surprise she said no; to anyone who works at Blockbuster, it that normal not having those extra Blu Ray sized cases to go with the used Blu Ray sales, or was the cashier maybe just being lazy? Thanks!

Went into a Blockbuster just to see what they have lying around and got into a conversation with front desk employee .. he stated that a B1G1 free sale event will start on the last week of November and will last 2 weeks .. not sure about it but he seems very certain of this sale and the timing .. just want to give fellow CAGs the heads up on this upcoming event

I will check on this tomorrow as we normally get info 1 week before a sale happens but this could be in the holiday guide which is very big so I'll see if there is anything in it about a b1g1.

Prepacks arrived today in 3 stores in our district so I put a few games aside hoping for a b1 g1 sale. Found the same thing others have been posting. Had 3 cod waw, multiple halo 3 and gta4.
Like I said, I have been out of the gaming scene for a while, but i seemed to remember SOME stores not taking trades that had been resurfaced. I did get some game art with 3 of the 5 I purchased yesterday, so in the future when I get tired of these, i can trade those 3 at least.

Thanks
Nah - your average GS clerk will have no idea they've even been resurfaced and I don't think that is a restriction in any case. You really have to hold them up to a bright light at an angle to see the circular resurfacing marks. Well, at least that is the way it was with the ones I got a year ago. I haven't seen a POG game myself since then. And you can trade the disc-only ones, they just might possibly hit you with a refurb fee ($3 or $4 probably). But most GS stores won't do that.

I swung by again to my local store and still nothing and I found out the one long-term employee (who worked at the GR before they closed nearly 3 years ago) left a few months back. That's too bad as he was the one I could ask to look up the POG stock at other stores. I did trade a Rock Rev for 360 (still $4) to up my BBv credit to $7.05 ;). I'll save it for the rumored B1G1 sale I guess.

I did pick up two more Diet Coke 12-packs. This time they found the bar code that makes them 2 for $7 (normally $3.99 each). Good deal since I was going to drive to Safeway just to get Diet Coke and got to take care of it while checking BBV for the POG stuff.

they probably have ps3 cases which are a little different size than the blu Ray cases but are better than the generic black cases. Since u asked for blu Ray cases thats why she probably said no.

To OP: Plz mod or delete this post if this is the wrong thread to post or if this info is already known.
I meant to comment on this earlier but picked the wrong post to quote.

Absolutely this is the right thread to post this info! In fact, it is 100% appropriate and I'm glad you didn't make a new thread for it or something. And no, it is not already known so any more info we can get is a good thing. When the B1G1 comes around this will be the official and only thread for it. Problem is, most BBV employees don't have that much advance info so while I'm sure he was sure it was going to happen then and you reported what he said accurately, it can't be 100% nailed down at this point. We've also heard that B1G1 will be on black Friday.

As soon as we get 100% confirmation about it I'll change the thread title to reflect it. I don't mind that other thread for the POG deal, though, since that is YMMV and keeps a lot of the confusing clutter out of this thread.

In the mean time, I should start updating the OP with the cheap game list. If anyone has any notable to add or update please start posting them here.

None of the BBVs I've bought BD's at carried the blue cases. But all of them were glad to give me a few PS3 cases. If you have a CD Warehouse nearby, they sell blue cases for $1/each.

I picked up Mario Super Sluggers complete over the weekend at BB for $9.99 used. After playing the game for awhile (it's mediocre at best), I decided it would be better served as trade in bait for Gamecrazy so I could get Punchout instead.

My local BB still has plenty of Mario Super Sluggers in stock, so I might be looking at the Trade 2 deals at GS as the game is on the list as an eligible game. New SMB Wii looks good for $30 (as long as I can trade 2 of the same title to GS that is....)
quick question guys, whats the current price for a game rental at bb. Havent been there in years
Non recent releases can be had for $1.99 per night, while I believe the week or so rental is still in the $8-9 range.

You can get one night rentals?? The only thing posted on the price board is the 5-day rental for $8.99 (or 7.99, I forget exactly). A one night rental would be an ideal way to test out a game for cheap. But they exclude new releases from that? How do they differentiate what is and isn't "new?" Thanks!

This may be available near you--

I found it at: Omaha, Nebraska: 96th and Q:
9.99 non-title specific packages are 20% off also

I used to work for Blockbuster-- these packages are used games that are all assigned the same part number, regardless of title. Because of this, their pricepoint is usually above or below their real value. I stopped into this store yesterday and picked up 2 copies of Fallout 3, COD4, and Saints Row 2, all for $8 a piece. I then went to Gamestop, which takes games as trade-ins even with no cover art or manual. All 3 of those games are on the list for Gamestop's "trade 2 of these titles and get $40 off a presale title". Since I can only trade 1 copy of a title per day at gamestop, I did 2 of them yesterday, & I'll do it again a couple times. All that to say, either cheap games at only $8 a piece, or spend $16 at Blockbuster and get $40 worth of trade at Gamestop. (The 20% off may not be available at all stores--this store is closing.)

Hope there is a store near you that carries these. You can call in and say "Could you stat a part number for me?" and give them the part numbers-- they also should be able to tell you if other stores in the area have that part number in stock. You'll have to go to the store in person to see what titles are available. The 2 part numbers I know of are 275837 and 241932. The titles I saw yesterday were:

Fallout 3
COD4
Saints Row 2
Far Cry 2
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Bourne Conspiracy
Fear 2
Ninja Gaiden 2
Devil May Cry 4
Prince of Persia
Soul Calibur 4
Grand Theft Auto 4
Guitar Hero World Tour
Guitar Hero 3
Guitar Hero Aerosmith
Madden 09
Mercanaries 2
Dark Sector
Turok
Spiderman 3
Spiderman: Web of Shadows
Battlefield: Bad Company
Jumper
Crackdown
Bioshock
Tombraider Anniversary
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Earth Defense Force 2017

Looking thru the holiday guide there doesn't appear to be a b1g1 anytime before the end of the year. Of course that could change but they list all the different promotions we have going on from week to week and there was no mention of it at all.

Bah, that sucks...

My store had a bunch picked up

Watchmen $9
Hannah Montana $9 (4 the kids, not me)
Motorstorm PR $24

tried to talk them into B2g1, but nogo.

Anyone know why my region of the country (South Florida) does not get these generic games in ever? Everyone within 70-100 miles of my location did not see these at their stores while people in other parts of the state and from pretty much every area of the country seems to get these $9.99 games in. This is the same every time Blockbuster has one of these sales.

They rarely have these at my local stores too, Rozz. I don't know if it's just that people grab the crap outta the POG's or not. But I find more than enough deals to make up for missing out on some disc only trade fodder, which is the only thing I'd probably use these games for anyway since I'm anal retentive and like disc, artwork and manual plus an original PS3 case.

In my district the same 4 stores are the only ones to ever get prepacks in for some reason. I don't know why this is or if this trend is anywhere else but 2 busy stores, 1 moderate store and 1 low volume store always get these in and nobody else in the district does.
