Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I just checked a local Blockbuster (Atlanta) for the Assassin's Creed deal. They had one copy new...and the price rang up at 20.99 (down from 24.99).

UPDATE: Called a few more stores in the Atlanta area. Few have new copies in stock and when they do the system says it's 20.99. So the Assassin's Creed for 12.99 deal is still YMMV it seems.
I got the same thing.. out of the couple of stores I went to all of them had the game as $20.99. I got all hyped up to get the game and everything.. lol

I'm over here in Ft. Worth btw
No, he's talking about the trade 4 Wii games get $25 extra deal. That is $6.25 for each game on top of Edge, so $10 + $1 for Edge + $6.25 for bonus = $17.25.

Changing topics, I guess I'll have to check the Assassin's Creed thing myself today. I closed the other thread and changed the info here because it seemed it had been confirmed at multiple locations. BBV new games prices are NOT YMMV! The only things that are YMMV are mistags and franchise stores, and those don't count ;).
so if my closest BBV is a franchisee store they wont have assassins creed on sale or they just might but not 100%?
so if my closest BBV is a franchisee store they wont have assassins creed on sale or they just might but not 100%?
I was saying that maybe the $12.99 people were getting was because it was a franchise store. Or they could have it for $59.99. With franchise stores, anything goes ;).

OK, now that two people have confirmed it to not be $12.99 I'm taking it down.

okay thanks, so basically it's just a matter of luck with franchisee stores. well, i guess i'll give it a check anyways. thanks

Are there any other good wii games that have a decent tiv going from BB to GS? I might pick up a copy of Geo Wars since that seems to be a 1:1 flip before bonuses but are there any others besides that or bully?

Well, I just updated the second post with all the Wii flips I know about (and posted that last night). That is the best source of info for now, though some of the GS trade-in prices need to be verified. I have Bully for Wii as costing $14.99 though which is what it was during the B1G1 sale. Is it really $9.99 now or are people talking about the very limited disc-only copies?

Hope you at least asked the counter for the price. At 2nd BBV I went to they had a copy tagged at 20.99 but checked system for me to find 12.99. Seems lots of people were having great luck with the 12.99 Assassin's Creed and now not so much!

The copy of Bully I found for $9.99 was a disc-only copy, I forgot about that until you mentioned it. I'm not sure what the regular used price is.

I have $30 left on my VC, and I think I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm going to pick up a new copy of Boomblox. If a B1G1 comes along or BBV goes under and has a huge liquidation sale, I still have some free cash I've earned from doing online surveys.

Yep, had them ring it up and everything... still no go.. All the ones that they had at the different stores were still tagged at $60. Maybe that has something to do with which stores are $12.99 and which are $20.99
GTA IV 360 was $10 when I bought it today. I'll be flipping it to GS for a $5 profit.
This wasn't one of those disc only sale games was it? Can anyone else confirm that GTA is 9.99?
Assassin's Creed was 12.99 at the Blockbuster/Gamerush I was at...Nearly went for a copy of it for the PS3...
Marked that way?

I went in tonight and asked the clerk to look it up for me - it was $20.99 new for the PS3 version. This guy is a former GR worker so he knows what he's doing. It is $20.99 unless it is mismarked.

This store is usually pretty good about being on top of price drops. They usually get them marked the morning they drop. As such I was very surprised to see that there has been virtually no movement in any of the new game "clearance" prices in 3-4 months now. I expected them to keep dropping those until they got rid of them.

Some interesting things to note, when I traded in RR(PS3), the receipt printed out a coupon for any new rental release for $1.95, picked up Slumdog Millionaire on DVD(Blu-Ray excluded). Also, I saw that GTA IV Special Edition is $57.99...worth checking into for those sitting on cheap credit.
You definately can call some 800 number to reinstate your GC trade-in account credit. One of the local GC manager told me about it cause I have a few dollars left in the account associated with a closed GC. I did not bother to call the number though. If you want, you should be able to get your credit back.
Thanks. Like yours, mine was just a few dollars and may not be worth the trouble, but there are still a few Hollywood Videos around so I may just look into it to get my rental back.

I picked up GTA IV SE last year for $22. Target clearanced them out before Christmas and had a ton. Its alright, but if you are looking to buy the game I would get a used copy and save $40 or so.

FWIW, I picked up a 360 copy a couple days ago for $12.99 and it was still marked $27.99.

Picked up the 360 Creed for 12.99 new. It was in a generic BB box but the tag said new 12.99 but rang up 20.99. The clerk had to override to adjust the price.

Converted my credit to XBOX Live points, it's an easy non committal decision :)

Now, do I buy Galactix on XBLA, or wait for the next round of Fable DLC ...

I found a preplayed version of Professor Layton and the Curious Village DS for $10. $27 at GS so I figured it was a good deal and heard good things about it.

BTW how can I remove the BBV sticker on the front if I want to trade it in?

Peel it off?

BBV stickers are generally a pain in the ass to remove. Just remove as much as you can without going crazy and leave it like that. Or go buy goo-gone. That shit works miracles.

BBV stickers peel off best when they're cold. Stick the case in the fridge or freezer for 30 minutes or so and then peel it off in one quick rip.

Uh, not unless these just dropped today and we get confirmation. I just posted yesterday that I verified Assassin's Creed for PS3 at $20.99. They usually adjust prices on Sunday so that it seems unlikely. Did they actually ring up this way or did they have to adjust them per some manager's special (or was this a franchise store)?

Had traded in GH III when I got Rock Band. Might have to pick it back up for $5.

$20 is also great for those who don't already have GRID.

You don't have to peel it off. Get some goo gone or rubbing alcohol on it-- takes the print on the sticker right off.

OK, what is going on? I heard (from somewhere else) that they just started some sort of liquidation sale on new games - thus perhaps what earvcunanan posted just went into effect today.

But why the hell hasn't anyone else posted? I'll check out my store today but this is all very strange.

Best I can figure this is some sort of local YMMV store-closing sale and thus does not apply most places. We'll see if that's right though.

Did you happen to notice if this Fallout 3 CE was also $40 for the 360 version?

And yeah, this sale has a "beginning of the end" vibe to it :(

Not sure, I would bet it is though. I only had a couple minutes to skim over the 360 list.

Also I don't know when these markdowns came through, but at my store they said they marked the PS3 games today, and are doing the 360 ones tomorrow. So it seems pretty new.
Hopefully some BBV employee can post the complete lists.

1 more that I remember seeing on the list Gears of War 2 - 49.99 Gears of War 2 CE - 59.99.
So just a $10 markdown on that one.

Cool, I guess I will look tomorrow. The Fallout CE is one of those ones I hate to ask about at BB, as its locked in a display case, and it will no doubt take the employees 15 minutes to find the keys, jiggle with the lock to get it open, and price check it, and if it rings up as $80, I'd hate to then just say, OK I don't want it!

I'm heading in. If this is going on here (and not just in Atlanta which seems to be a common theme with a lot of the posters reporting the deal) I'll see if I can get the full list - my BBV may just give it to me.

dinovelvet - ask them to look it up in the computer first. Yeah, it takes a competant employee to do so, but they can be found ;).
This is interesting. I wonder if they're abandoning selling new games.
My bets are they are trying to sell off all their sellable assets before Chapter 11.
Rock Revolution PS3 went down to $12.99 today. A nice $10.39 w/10% coupon + edge transfer to $19
Darn...just bought one for $14.99 yesterday, anyway I could get a price adjustment?

I just checked the gamestop site and it still lists as 16.99 360 used and 14.99 ps3 used for Rock Revolution...we are talking about gamestop here right? I was going to go flip tonight but want to make sure.

The GS site has listed the Rock Revolution prices wrong for awhile now. A week ago I got a 360 copy for 14.99. Not sure if this was mislabeled or not because it was the only 360 copy around me. And I can confirm the PS3 drop today, I picked one up for 12.99.

I was in one today and they mentioned a huge list of markdown that came out of the blue when I asked about a game today. They had no warning so they didn't have them marked yet but would soon she said. Sounds like what others are finding out. She normally has prewarning on stuff like this so it caught me off guard when she mentioned that it was a surprise to them.

seemed like great timing as I was going to spend out my credit this weekend.

Called BBV on Plano and NW Hwy in Dallas, quoted C of D 4 for PS3 at $32.99. Walked in to BBV at Royal and Central where C of D 4 was $24.99.

This is really confusing. I went in to my local BBV and they said they had a price change email for today and went to print it for me. Here I was expecting 3 pages of 360 stuff like someone else said, but it ended up having all of FOUR games on it and 3 of those were different versions of Shaun White Snowboarding :bomb:.

They called around to a few other stores for me and no one else had a list. However, they checked prices for me and some stuff matched up and others were all over the place. R&C ToD came up $19.99, but Assassin's Creed came up $14.99. Blue Dragon came up $9.99, and Boom Blox came up $19.99. GT5 Prologue seems to have had a massive drop from $31.99 to $29.99 ;). The problem was, even though they had cases out for these games, they didn't actually have most of them in stock. So that may be why they didn't get the price changes in their email.

I may check out one other store tonight with better stock. To make it more confusing, they also said one of the other stores said there was a problem with downloads today and they they may not get pricing info till tomorrow (yet weird that some of it was in there apparently).

I don't know what to think now... It looks like this is nothing more than a continuation of their ongoing new game clearance and not some sort of liquidation sale. I was just commenting the other day about how things hadn't dropped in a long time and how strange that was and then look what happens ;).
