Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I'd be most appreciative if someone could find out whether a NEW Spider-man: Web of Shadows (360) was also part of this recent drop...

I was just at a BBV and they pulled all of their new games and were pricing them, and told me I would have to come back to buy them, also told me they couldn't do my trade in not because there was anything wrong with it, they just didn't know how. To top it off, the person I had this conversation with was a huge fat guy drag queen. I am usually there in the AM, I think I will stick with that from now on.
Edit: I am curious about Godfather II, they were doing preorders, did they get it in stock? and if so did it drop?

Didnt that game come out like 2 days ago? I doubt they would have a drop this....early....

It appears all new games are getting a drop, at least at the BBV I went to, that would seem to indicate to me that Godfather II has a chance.

New clearance prices hit for all BBV NEW games. Here are the prices at my Local BBV in Roselle IL (630-307-7900). Notably rock band 2 for PS3 and X360.

Turok $10 (PS3)
Unreal Tournament III $10 (PS3)
Bioshock $20 (PS3)
Uncharted $20 (PS3)
Super Mario Sluggers $20 (Wii)

the guy said he was going to drop alot of the 360 games tom.

These prices on the NEW games are sounding really good. Any idea if the used prices will be dropping as well to match?

I think this thread just got hot again...

Been waiting for Lego Batman to drop 19.99 was the magic # for me, just went out and got it. Still 29.99 for Wii if anyone was wondering. Also got Mario Strikers Charged for 14.99, couldn't pass that up.
the guy said he was going to drop alot of the 360 games tom.
Hmm somebody else said the same earlier, tomorrow looks like the official 360 reduction day then. I hit BB tonight and got a PS3 Soul Calibur IV premium ed. for $30, so that reduction was in effect, but 360 Fallout 3 limited ed was $59.99 (still "down" from the 79.99 sticker on the box), but not matching the 39.99 PS3 version that was quoted earlier in the thread.

Bah, I guess that download glitch in my area meant they didn't get the reprice in the system on a lot of these. My kids wouldn't let me go to the bigger BBV tonight after a movie - they were tired and didn't want to put up with daddy's hobby.

I wonder what's up with the DS games. There isn't much in that 360/PS3 selection that I'd actually want even at these new prices. But there's tons of stuff I'd get for the DS if they dropped it a bit more from the "clearance" prices that have been the same for 3+ months now.

Thanks! The rubbing alcohol made it look just like new again.

hmm. definatly would love to get GH3 for 5 bucks.

before I go on their slow ass website, can you check if games are in stock at certain stores on their website yet?

or do I have to go down there and search the entire store lol

I'm really hoping they drop the used prices now - a few of my local BBV's are flooded with used games. For a place that made trading no longer worthwhile, they still seem to be getting a huge number of used games - I presume those must be rental conversions, but I don't know how to tell.

I may pick up new copies of the Wii games De Blob, Mario Super Sluggers and Lego Batman. Those would be to keep.

Not sure if this is necessary (if all blockbusters drop?), but I can confirm the price drops for the BBV in Irwin, PA. Picked up Assassins Creed for $10, Battlefield Bad Company for 14.99, and Uncharted for $20. All for the PS3.

Has anyone been able to confirm the drops on 360 games that's been rumored for today? When I checked yesterday, the BBV employee checked that the stickered prices for 360 games were correct.

Wow glad i checked the thread, gonna have to flip a few rock revolutions and atleast get Assassins Creed :) ill have them scan some games as well will report later.

Oblivion (GOTY) (PS3) - $9.99
Bioshock $20 (PS3)

Must buys if I can find them.. I remember my local BBV having atleast Oblivion, if it's at that price I can't refuse! Hopefully they got both and prices are the same . Thanks for heads up! I'll try to post a list after I come back if I find anything.

Was oblivion new as well?

Scored at one of the BBV in town

Lego Batman PS3 $20
Assassins Creed PS3 $10
Mercenaries 2 PS3 $15

Was looking for Spider-Man WOS but they only had 360

Also saw Ratchet and Clank PS3 for $20
Trade 4 wii games get an extra $25 trade in credit. Anything worth flipping from BBV to GS?
Plenty, I flipped some of the remaining wii clearcase games and made 10$ without even trying. I flipped Wii Aerosmith, Furu Furu Park, and Go Go Diego (x2).
Spider-Man: WoS (360) rang up for $29.99 NEW here at Renton, WA
Thanks. Sounds like that one hasn't been discounted... yet.

i went to a BB and saw the sticker price for C0D3 for 59.99 and i knew it was time to leave. But i have a question, are the sticker price the actual price?

Forgot that since my wallet was stolen a few weeks ago w/ my BB card and all ID inside, they probably won't let me get another card and do trade without a state ID. Gonna have to get one of my family members to trade for me and that means setting up new trade accounts at each BB I go to. HOORAY! Hopefully after all is said and done I'll have a copy of RE5, RaC:F, and enough credit left to put a chunk into Infamous at GS.

Spore: Creatures DS - $9.99
Universe at War 360 - $9.99
Fracture PS3 - $9.99

The store I visited had not posted any of the new prices yet.

When I brought the handful of games up to the counter for a price check, the girl mentioned that they had just received the new prices that morning to be in effect today ... but they had been so busy with today being a holiday that they had not had a chance to update the tags yet.
Found most of what's already been discussed (unfortunately no Oblivion GOTY) and a few other decent deals:

Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2 PSP - $9.99
Final Fantasy XII: Reverant Wings DS - $4.99
Spore: Creatures DS - $9.99
Universe at War 360 - $9.99
Fracture PS3 - $9.99
can anyone tell me if Universe at War is worth it? I've seen some videos and it looks good but haven't heard much about it otherwise.

Won't they scan with the new prices though even if the stickers weren't updated? I know that the stickers at my BBV still had older prices but scanned as lower prices since the changes were in the system. R&C for instance had a $34.99 sticker but scanned at $19.99.
i went to a BB and saw the sticker price for C0D3 for 59.99 and i knew it was time to leave. But i have a question, are the sticker price the actual price?
You should always get a price check. Often the sticker on the game is not the actual price at BBV.

Just picked up:

Pokemon Explorers of Time (DS) $15
Pokemon Explorers of Darkness (DS) $15
Drawn to Life (DS) $10
Spongebob Globs of Doom (DS) $10
Unreal Tourney III (ps3) $10
Banjo Kazooie (360) $20
Spiderman Web of Shadows (360) $25
NFS Pro Street (360) $10
De Blob (Wii) $20
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) $25

Trying to get rid of all of my credit. As I was checking out, the CS was very cool and asked me if I wanted some promo/pre-order items and I said I would appreciate it. He and the manager proceeded to give me all of the framed pictures they had as well as a couple of t-shirts (Rock Band, SC IV SW) and finally, the BB exclusive Gears comic book. Very cool, maybe life doesn't suck after all.

lucky S.O.B. lol

Has anyone tried to trade anything in today? If they are dumping all their video games, why would they accept trades? Maybe they aren't any more. I ask because I was thinking of picking up a copy or two of Rock Revolution PS3 to flip, then began to wonder if I'd be able to flip them!

Also, any signs of dropped used prices?

Blockbuster has been clearancing out new games in the spring/summer for years now. It doesn't mean they are going to stop carrying games.

Actually, I think he was asking because there's some speculation of BBV filing for bankruptcy.

I wish I wasn't banned for trading at Blockbuster. I want to buy a few Rock Revolutions and build credit a bit and get some of these new games. Drawn to Life would be nice to have, along with De Blob. I might get some and have my girlfriend trade a few in for me if she's up to it.
