Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I could always do that. I am getting the game FREE anyways well sort of as I have these giftcards laying around that I dont need. I was planning to rent games in the summer, but i can just buy them now.
I heard USED GTA4 is only 15 bucks. Should I go and get USED GTA4 or GTA4 LE? Its a 15 dollar difference and that 15 bucks can surely get me a new game, but the LE is pretty tempting. If i stick with USED GTA4, what is a good game I should get that i pretty cheap? also, which games have USED forms cheaper than the new? The only one I know is GTA4, but its not USED LE or anything.
Go with whatever you want. If you want the game go with the used version. No need to capitalize "used" all the time by the way.

Do u think its weird if i go and buy a few games at BBV for cheap and then go trade them in at GS? lol. If so, what game could I get the most money out of it? For example, I buy a game for 10 bucks and then I trade in and get like 20 bucks. I have a edge and everything and I can use some of the special GS has.
The developers already received their money for that specific game in store. Whether he buys the used or new version, ti won't make a difference to the developers.
You couldn't be more wrong.

If YOU got $5 off a new game, would you rather someone buy 2 new games or 1 person buy the new game and the other person buy the game from the first person?

LOL. Well you picked the right thread to ask this. I hope there are big drops on used today. Some more stuff I've been keeping an eye on.

I picked up Professor Layton and Spore Creatures for $10 each the other day. I didn't care for Spore very much, but I was able to trade it in at Gamestop for $11 with my Edge Card, and Prof. Layton was a helluva great pickup for $10
Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Bioshock

So, is BBV open today? Any USED price markdowns? I know it's early.
BBV is open 365 days a year, 12-15 hours a day.

how much is Super Smash Bros Brawl worth? isnt it like 25? Then if u use EDGE, it would be 27.50. Then if u use those other specials u get more. Such as 3 for extra 10%, 4 for 20%, 5 for 30%. or that 4 wii games and extra $25. then u can get w/e games u want.
OK, I updated a few things included Rictor's obscure one of a kind finds ;).
Heh. This makes me appreciate my local market. There's another 15 or so Gamerush stores with 30-50 miles that I haven't even been to yet. Thinking of heading south today...went north yesterday and hit 5 stores after garage sales. Glad gas is $2 a gallon and not $4 right now.

Probably never make it east as it takes about an hour to drive to the east side of the city since I am so far west.

Not really related to GR, except that Samba de Amigo is $10 there, but Best Buy has Samba de Amigo 3rd-party maracas which are kind of cool for $7 a pair retail. Also, I found Guitar Hero t-shirts on clearance for $5, but that's probably YMMV.

HOW DARE YOU!

Yes, we think it's highly 'weird' and maybe even a little insane...

Jesus. Someone quoted me in the 3 minutes it took me to edit that out. Yes, I know I was wrong ;). I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that so I edited it out. I tend to do that a lot. Post bullshit and then 2 minutes later I re-read it and edit it out.

christ, visited the hazleton, PA blockbuster today and it was an epic fail. They only had 3 small shelves for games... and most stuff was for rent. they had a used bin, but most of the games were in horrendous condition and more expensive then the new. On each of the small 3 shelves, they had a little section for new games. Unfortunately, they only had about 6 or 7 games for each console, and most were shit. They werent really new either, as they were gutted....

i saw lots of the games on the price list for rent..... but i don't think they would have sold rentable copies to me at the new price... maybe they would of?? either way, even if they would sell the games to me, it would be a rental disc, and probably not that great of condition.....

anyone know if they would sell rental games?

My blockbusters are still closed. But east coast CAG's should give us some info in another hour ;)

Well no news yet of used price drops? Even though I'm out of credit and have a huge backlog, I'd probably end up spending some cash if the right deals came up.
anyone know if they would sell rental games?
I had a manager convert a rental to sell to me last week. I finally found a GTA IV (360) to flip but she said it was defective. But then she realized they had a bunch of rentals so I was able to get one. It was her idea though, so not sure how likely it is. But it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Also, make sure you ask about the gutted games. I got 3 yesterday from one store that just had empty cases on the shelf, but then they gave me sealed copies. I even saw the lady throw the placeholders away. Come to think of it, I should've asked if I could have them. You can always use more green cases.

Picked up:

Mario Galaxy: 24.99
MGS4: 29.99
Ratchet: 19.99
Lego Indy PS3: 19.99

Location of BBV is Sacto, CA. Definitely need to ask the employees for the list. I went to three BBV, but none of them willing to show the list. All games were behind the counter.

i just went and this indian dude working wouldnt show me the list either. and then i ask for PS3 GTA4 USED and he said he has 4 of them. i find a PS3 box for it as he told me just get one over there and take the manuals if u want. i bring it up and he is like so which disc do u want. i was like i want PS3 and not 360. He has 4 USED 360 copies but none of the PS3. he wouldnt sell me the rental copy either.

Had an excellent haul today:

:ps3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - $19.99
:ps3: Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - $19.99
:wii: Super Smash Bros. Brawl - $24.99
:wii: House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return - $14.99
:ds: The World Ends With You - $14.99
:ds: Advance Wars: Days of Ruin - $9.99

My GR and BBV's were pretty stocked. Had the opportunity to get but passed on:

:ps3: Devil May Cry 4: Collector's Edition - $14.99
:ps3: Fallout 3: Collector's Edition - $39.99
:ps3: GTA IV: Special Edition - $29.99
:ps3: Soul Caliber 4: Limited Edition - $29.99
:360: Rock Band: Special Edition - $54.99

Just wanted to give my thanks to the OP and everyone else who contributed with the prices.

Yeah, not even coming here for a few weeks and not knowing about the sale there, I went in last night and was just going to pick up a movie or two, but then that is like $12 bucks right there. I have been waiting to pick up Ratchet and Clank since the release date, but $60 was far too much IMO for it. Then even $40 dollars was still a bit too much after like 1.5 years out on the market. And Wario Land: Shake it. When Amazon had the deal going a few weeks ago for 27.99 and everyone was saying that was like 10 bucks too much for the game, well now it is 20 dollars, and I figured I snagged it. Even with the 6 or so hours of gameplay, that is still a pretty good deal, and I tend to want to go back and play these platformers over again.
How long is this sale going on?
It is supposedly going on until all games are gone. In a sense, they are liquidating their new game inventory.

Ask them to see all their new games. Most Blockbusters keep their games behind the register. At my Blockbuster, we just let the customer go behind the counter and look at all the games if they want to buy something.

As for rentals, the only way to buy them is to rent them($9) and let the game charge to your account. The price of the rental will be the price of the same game, but used.

Grabbing rental copies for used games is extremely YMMV. I do it all the time when I buy a used game. I usually take the best copy. My manager doesn't seem to care and some managers don't mind doing it for customers. There are two reasons for this. We sell a used game (which the higher ups really like) and we get rid of a rental that we have too damn many of by throwing it in the defective bin. What was BBV thinking giving every store 15 rental copies of GTAIV?

You can't sell rental copies, technically. We can transfer a rental to a used game in the computer very easily, but we aren't supposed to do it. We're supposed to wait until we get the paperwork (On sundays) that tells us to transfer rental copies to used games.

Thanks for the info OP! Was able to pick up:

:360: Kung Fu Panda $14.99
:360: Rock Band (disc only) $9.99

:ps3: Ridge Racer 7 $4.99

:wii: Wario Shake It $19.99
:wii: De Blob $19.99

:ds: Final Fantasy RW $4.99
:ds: Lunar Dragon Song $4.99
:ds: Professor Layton x2 $9.99
:ds: The World Ends with You $14.99
:ds: Sonic Chronicles $14.99

I passed on everything else since I picked most of it up during the CC liquidation.

should I get RB for PS3 if i already have RB2 and GH:WT (Full band) for Wii? I sort of only want it for the instruments so i can play it on my PS3? should i just stick to all RB/GH games on wii. if i dont, i probably wont play my wii muhc.
That's one of the reasons I'm not gonna spend cash on any of these games. By the time I actually play them they'll be even cheaper somewhere.
I totally agree, io! So many great games here, but still a bit too much. Once I get around to playing them, they will be less expensive.
sounds fishy to me? MGS 4 for 9.99? Damn you!
hah yes damn me, i would post the receipt but i threw it out since the game was in mint condition suprisingly.( being Blockbuster and all..) but the only catch is no manual, the other two are complete :)

Here's what I picked up:

Wii
Boom Blox - $20
Dragon Quest Swords - $15
The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return - $15
Mario Super Sluggers - $20

DS
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings x 2 - $5
Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir - $10
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - $15
The World Ends With You x 2 - $15

PS3
Devil May Cry 4: Collector's Edition - $15
Lair - $10

360
Devil May Cry 4: Collector's Edition - $15

Pretty much found everything I was looking for besides Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Folklore.

I just called one of my random BBV and picked Prince of Persia used, and its still $50.

He said they have price changes every Sunday though, but IDK if today is going to be big or not. Anyone else out there see used deals?

Lots of the clearance games at the Vienna Blockbuster. I can't remember all of them now, but if someone in the area is looking for something in particular, i can probably recall if I saw it there (pm me).

I checked the used prices for some games and they were all higher than the new prices. Dead Space, Grid, Saints Row 2, and something else--all the same or higher than the new game price.

So are these to be found at Blockbusters in general, or just BBV's with the "video game sister-store" that I can't seem to remember the name of (Hollywood has Gamecrazy)

Picked up Soul Calibur IV for 24.99
They also had Lost Planet: Colonies Edition for 9.99, but i didn't get it.

I'm glad a good deal came along to get rid of the last of my credit, all the bankruptcy talk was making me nervous. Snagged Mario galaxy ($25) Mario Sluggers ($20) Wario:Shake it ($20), Zelda ($10), Prof Layton ($10). Their willingness to pretty much clearance out most new games seems odd, but their loss is my gain. Thanks for the heads up about the new clearance deals

Do u think if i make a big argument with the BlockBuster employee will give me the game cheaper? GTA4 new is 30 while used is 15. MGS4 is 30 new and i think used is regular price. If i complain and stuff and say that why isnt USED cheaper than new and say look at GTA4, do u think they will maybe lower the price on MGS4 used for me. lol. probably very stupid.

It's across all BBV stores. The only reason a lot of people bring up GameRush (the sister store) is because you're probably going to find some of the "rarer" clearance games like Resident Evil DS, Meteos, etc, whereas the more high profile stuff is gonna be at many stores.

Here's what I picked up yesterday:

:360:
DMC4: CE - $14.99
Lost Plant: Colonies Ed - $9.99

:ps3:
Bioshock - $19.99
R&C: ToD - $19.99
Heavenly Sword - $14.99

Thanks to everyone for all the info!

The staff (including managers) cannot adjust the used price. The new game prices are considered "sale" prices.
It would indeed be stupid to push the fact.
These staff members are paid minimum and are now under the stress of losing their jobs if bankruptcy happens. I feel sorry for the number of times a frontline staff member is asked to comment on the financial state of BBuster by customers.
Empathy should be in the back of every shoppers mind.

Just picked up GTA4 Collectors Edition for $30. Tempted on Soul Caliber 4 for $25, but not sure yet. Will check out other blockbusters to see what other deals are going on. Looking for Fallout 3 collectors edition. and Devil May Cry 4.

i haven't been to a blockbuster in a LONG time. do they have a section for buying games? and do you need a membership card to buy?

Yes, there should be a seperate section, possibly near the games aisle, could be next to the area where they sell dvds new or used, or it could be a completly different section depending on your BBV. It should be seperate from rentals, thats for sure.

And no Membership is required to buy.

Depending on the Blockbuster (like the one I went to yesterday) the new games section can be a bit of a mess so I just asked them to check if they had Uncharted in stock even though there was not display for it and a couple minutes later I was walking out the store with game in hand. It could always go the other way, where they have a display out but not the game in stock.

Picked up Spider-Man Friend or Foe for $10. I have to say I think the reviews were a bit rough on this game. I got it for my kids but it actually has turned out to be an enjoyable game to play.
