Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Folklore is definitely worth a play through at 20$. Nothing really ground breaking, but it's fun, I'm actually shocked its MSRP has held its value this long... considering the relative shelf life of todays games.
For those who found "special editions": Do you recall having seen them on display previous to the sale, or were they just recently pulled from the back. The question basically is: should one expect to find special editions anywhere if they weren't out there previously with the regular display.

Also, has anyone seen Golden Axe at all?
I've been to 7 blockbusters (all within 15 miles of me..) and have yet to see a golden axe, and for the stores I've been to they have the special editions behind the register on the shelves. Got lucky and found a Fallout CE today, and only cost me 2 copies of rock revolution :)

Went to a few BBV's today.

The first had old price stickers, but had Boom Blox, SSBB and R&C:TOD.

The second had nothing. Total crap selection.

The third had a sign on the door "80% off videogames". I said "Aw, fuck" figuring that it would mean there'd be nothing. Couldn't have been more wrong.

The aisles were a mess and one copy of SSBB was in with the rental games. I thought that would be it. But, up near the registers, there was a table with a huge box of games on it. Excellent selection of PS2, 360, Wii, and DS games. We're talking Bioshock, Bully, Mario Sluggers, R&C:TOD.

Picked up Bioshock, Sims: My Kingdom (for my kid), and Guitar Hero On Tour DS.

Assassin's Creed is proving to be a lost cause for me, but I'm amazed that days into the sale, there are still lots of good games to be found.

Hell, even I've seen Assassin's Creed and my stores are notorious for crappy selections. I did notice earlier today that my local store seems to have sold next to nothing since I was there on Friday morning - the whole busy movie-renting holiday weekend did nothing for them. It was very strange since I see plenty of people in there spending $8 or $9 or whatever to rent games yet, apparently, passing up the brand new ones for $10-$20 that they could keep forever.

I've seen the same thing at my Blockbusters. Some stores even lay the games out on tables and put them right at the front door so that you can't walk in without noticing them. But still very light on sales (except for me, of course). Maybe people go to BBV with the mindset of renting, and buying a game (no matter how good the price) is not appealling.

Looking back to the past year and the literally hundreds of times I've been to BBVs, I rarely see anyone looking at the retail games (new or used). I realize it's an arbitrary sample, but if this is a microcosm of BBV's video game business, I can't imagine they'd stick with it much longer.

And I'd have to admit, it weren't for CAG, I would've never realized BBV sold new video games (or even had a decent selection of used games).

finally got out to my local BBV today. its a franchisee store, and they had a clearance section but the wii/ds was all crap shovelware and the 360/ps3 sections looked picked clean besides a copy of SCIV (360) for 25 and Bioshock (PS3) for 20.

I dont have ps3 tho...and 25 was too much for SCIV for me. just gonna get it with cheap GS credit next time they have a b2g1.
they did have tons of clearcase games for 9.99 each that werent there before, so i grabbed BioShock (360) and Viking (360), which were the only good games they had left. dont mind not having the cases since i just throw all my discs in a cd book now.
i jsut looked at the bioshock disc and it has a weird greasy looking smudge on it, whats up with that?
i jsut looked at the bioshock disc and it has a weird greasy looking smudge on it, whats up with that?
Butter from that BBV popcorn? :D
Butter from that BBV popcorn? :D
idk man lol.

crap, i forgot to ask if they had any games behind the counter/if that clearance section was all they had..oh well, next time i guess. i doubt they have anything else though.

also, i went there when the sale with the clearcase games was suppoesd to be goign on, and they had a couple of the ones that are there now, but not quite as many. but it looks like they have really been picked over. they must have lied to me when i asked if they had any more during the sale, and now i missed out on a lot of the good games :\ ahhhh well

I MIGHT have a spare copy of Uncharted to unload as I believe my brother picked up a copy of the game today as well. We basically share all of our single player games. Damn mis-communication...

If you haven't been able to find one and have given up all hope, let me know and (assuming I'm going to be unloading it) I'll send it out for shipping+costs or work something else out if you have stuff to trade, etc.

Edit: Uncharted has been sold. Please no more PMs. ;)
I just looked at this yesterday, I guess IO needs to update the first post:
http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf
:bomb:

Looking at that list just makes me angry. They can have 9 GR stores in Kansas, NINETEEN in Oklahoma, and for cripes sake, 5 just in the small Atlanta suburb of Lawrenceville... But outside of a cluster in Southern CA and a sprinkling in Central CA (all in Fresno) they don't have a single damn store in the entire western continental U.S. since the one near me shut down (due to lease problems - wish they could have moved the GR to another location but no, of course not). I guess those stores in Fresno are the closest to me - about 600 miles .

Anyway, I'll add that list to the OP for all you lucky bastards in the few select chosen states... It hasn't meant much in the last couple of years but when a sale like this hits it makes a big difference!
dude there are SOOO many gamerushes in ATL (which is where i live, sort of ;) and i love it...gonna hit 6 today :)

and thx for the updated list Shadowedge!
Yeah, but I went to a few of those GR stores in Atlanta a few years back (when the brand was still somewhat relevant) and they were pretty crappy stores overall. I was pretty spoiled by the one we had here. Of course, that is what did them in - they had way too much space and the rent was too high for the revenue they got at that location. A large retail complex was supposed to go in next to them and it never happened so they never made as much as they thought they would. Oh well...

Well, anyway, my plan for Tuesday was to hit up the BBV in the rich area of town that tends to get more game stock than the others (because their sales are higher). But then I remembered I have to get 2 fillings mid-day. Blah - guess I'll go out in the evening.

Those KS stores are obviously just on the KS side of Kansas City. The Missouri side 15 of them also.

You truly aren't missing anything though with a GameRush store. Yes a couple times it might be good but the ones around KC rarely have anything to purchase. Though the old trade in credit system was nice.
I can't seem to find these collector's editions everyone claims to find. Do they display them in the front with the rest of the games?
My Blockbuster had them sitting on the front counter in front of one of the registers.

Is the used price for Geometry Wars Galaxies on the Wii $6.99? I think I remember seeing an orange sticker with that price, but I'm not too sure. Thinking about picking that up along with Saint's Row 2 later today.

Nice! Got two PS3 games at the Game Rush in Clearwater, FL (on Gulf-To-Bay)...

Folklore - 9.99
Civilization Revolution - 19.99

Surprisingly, they still had quite a few gems from the main list - go check 'em out if you're in the area. You're welcome.

What about New Jersey? Hmm? Apparently, being one of the most densely populated states means nothing to Blockbuster. They'll open stores in OK or other states that don't have even half the customer base we do, but they won't open just ONE in NJ.

I've seen Golden Axe at a couple stores. Special Editions are on display behind the counter or in one of the glass cases at the stores I've been to. They don't tend to put them on the clearance table because they're pricey and they don't fit in the security cases.

Yep, nothing in PA either. They do have tons in Ohio... who lives in ohio?!?

It was 6.99 during the B1G1. I doubt the price would of gone up.

Good to know. Thanks!

It sucks that it's harder to find Rock Revolution at GSs now. I have to drive farther than usual to get a copy to flip for easy BBV credit.

I'm taking my chances and still going to hold onto my credit. I have $130 and these games aren't quite the ones im looking for. Thats enough for KOFXII and Tekken 6 so im betting they will stick around at least until July.

This sale makes me believe that more is on the way. A USED game sale has to be coming soon. And if not that...i got credit for a liquidation sale.

I'm in the same boat (I just want different games). The only thing that worries me is Blockbuster CAN REFUSE to accept gift-cards/credit if they liquidate/bankrupt
Lol... the Gamestop Gamedays thread is all the way on the second forum page right now.
Wow I had forgotten they were still doing that, the Blockbuster clearance is really kicking gamestops ass with the deals.

I do want Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Smash Bros Brawl, but I didn't find any at the GR I went to. They had almost everything else though except their Wii selection was dismal.

hehe yeah it is. I'm hoping game days will come out with some new price reductions like it did last year. it seems like alot of the great deals lately have been for portable systems. Unfortunately I don't own any

CML.

They had the clearance racks set up at BBV in Wall, NJ the usual clearance suspects there. There was a copy of RB6V2 for PS3 in the glass display case, and a couple of Quantum of Solace behind the register though.

I got:

Heavenly Sword (PS3) $15
Rachet & Clank (PS3) $15 (they had it marked lower so had to adjust price from computer listed $20)
Lego Batman (PS3) $15 (same as above adj.)
RV62 (PS3) $20(I returned by used copy that I had bought from them for $25 as I said it had issues)
Super Mario Galaxy ($25)

I went to about 3 and called 7 more. I did see a lot of the other games including Wario Shake and Bioshock(I already bought it for $20 at target clearance) but couldn't find Uncharted and I got the last Heaveanly Sword. I live near downtown Atlanta. These were some great prices for these games and saved me over $100 dollars from comparble prices on Amazon and Newegg even when factoring in tax.
Found a copy of Ratchet and Clank for $20. Not sure if I want to buy it. Probably won't get a chance to play it for 4-6 months
Great game, lots of play.
I would be very surprised to see it sub $20 in 6 months but if may go GHits for $19.99 which puts it at $17.99 at GS...

anyone need ratchet and clank? I would be willing to trade it for an assassin's creed and Unreal Tournament...

I can also get a boomblox, HOTD and maybe warioland shake it for anyone if they want to pay for shipping, +bubble mailer + paypal fees +original cost.

...since the one near me shut down (due to lease problems - wish they could have moved the GR to another location but no, of course not).
Hey IO,
that's funny that you mentioned the "lease" problem. One of my BB and a GR by my parents place, 30 miles away, both said they had leasing problems. I guess they are trying to restructure to save money.
