Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Honestly, I'm with everyone else on this, your chances for profit are pretty low on all but MAYBE Uncharted, since that STILL goes for $40 used at many stores.

But the rest can be had cheaper if you just look, so why should anyone pay you for the privilege of buying a game you hoarded?

On the topic of games from this sale though, if anyone finds a Call Of Duty 4 for PS3(regular or GOTY, since I think they're both $24.99 as someone mentioned), let me know and maybe we can work out a trade/deal.

I looked at the clearance racks/tables at the two BBV's I've hit around here and I asked about stuff like Saints Row 2, but it was no go on that game around here. Had I known about COD4, I would've definitely asked about that.

Has anyone found any of these deals in Wisconsin. I don't go to BlockBuster often, but I don't ever remember seeing them sell any games. Anyone else able to get any of these deals in Wisconsin?

So, anyone know what are the BEST flips from BBV to GS? I generally don't flip too much anymore, but I figure it would be nice to transfer credit if I can get close to a 1:1 transfer with the Gamestop tiered trade deal currently. I want to pre-order NCAA 10 or Madden 10 and I don't know if BBV will be around for those.

Went to a few more BBV I haven't been to in Orange County (Santa Ana & Fountain Valley), but didn't pick anything up.

Also, I stopped by a few Targets on the way and found 2 copies of Rock Revolution (PS3) to flip to BBV. I've yet to trade anything to BBV, so I was wondering should I remove the price sticker or do they not really care?

Trading in to BBV you want to open up the game. They might look at you like you stole the game if you want to trade a sealed game to them. I just traded a copy from GS and it it still getting $19.00 in BBV credit.

Actually, my closest BBV had a copy of the PS3 Singstar bundle sitting on the counter last night that I think someone traded in. It looked like it was still in the package and sealed, so I'm not 100% sure they really care.

I mean, you can get total dick employees who would accuse you of stealing the items if they're unopened and all, but usually I just take in a list of games to ask about and have them manually look them up, since I'm not about to unseal them unless I'm making some decent credit on them.
I love all the people flaming the guy. He bought all this stuff 4 days after the sale began, you had plenty of time, if you didn't get it before him, stop bitching.
Most people are happy when other people can also get in on a deal. Its that extra line at the end with him talking about how all of them are going up on Ebay/half.com that probably riled everyone up.

Personally I don't care. I got my Uncharted and GHIII. I'm just trying to encourage neighborly behavior on CAG. :)

Nailed Soul Calibur 4 SE (or w/e) for 29.99. Also nabbed a copy of Heavenly Sword for 14.99. I love you guys for making my Amazon account so comfortably filled.

Gotta brag about a pretty nice BBV score:

For whatever reason, all 3 of the closest BBVs around me are non-franchised(I think I'm using that term correctly), which always means great deals for me... new games never go above $20, and basically all last-gen games go for $3-5 each. Not to mention they hook me up with perks for being a regular buyer(a couple times they've shared their list of games they were putting up for sale in the near future, and even gave me a free pair of DK bongos) A year ago when one was dumping their cube games they said they were going to ditch alot of their PS2 games soon too. Well, I waited and waited and it never happened... until TODAY:

All $5 each - all come with mint cases and manuals(they always kept them stored away in the backroom)

-Shadow of the Colossus
-Metal Slug Anthology
-Romance XI
-Sniper Elite
-Rogue Galaxy
-Way of the Samurai 2
-Valk Profile 2
-Haunting Ground
-Samurai Warrior Musashi(probably not the best deal but meh whatever)
Dude, seriously. Never sign anything without at least glancing it over. Who knows what you will sign one day. What if there was a section in there that said "by signing this agreement and trading in games I agree to have my significant other sold into bondage... or something".

What is this society coming to that people expect to be spoonfed everything (for obvious instance wiishopchannels) which is a crying shame actually.

And to dawman45, if you are hoarding (to resell), dont advertise it as people are going to remember your boasts/bragging and will be unwilling to help you in the future. Just like Io had reservations about posting a compiled list for this reason alone. Rather a CAG doing it than a FW or SD.
Actually I did glance the agreement over before I signed it. My comment was a little flippant (hence this: :wall:) since I missed the part about the number of copies of a game you can trade in. I'm not that stupid to sign an agreement I don't read over.

As for the guy getting flamed for hoarding, I think it's because he's selling it on ebay as opposed to offering them to CAGs. From the posts on the thread, many people can't find some of the games of which he bought multiple copies. People have searched numerous BBVs in their area for some of those games to no luck. The guy is fortunate to have easy access to them and boasts that he will sell them on ebay while other CAGs visit multiple BBVs and come up empty-handed.

I think the best flip is mario super sluggers with three other wii games. Problem is...you need to come up with 3 other wii games!
If you have multiple stores, then you can trade multiple copies... dont push more than 1 copy per store or you are asking for a big fat ban hammer to fall on your head.
Totally agree..it is very YMMV. I picked up 5 copies of RR (don't hate me for hoarding RRs!) to flip. My wife convinced me to try to trade them all at once...and as luck should have it I got a SUPER nice clerk that didn't even think twice about taking them all and gave me ZERO hard time. Saved 4 trips to other stores.
I think the best flip is mario super sluggers with three other wii games. Problem is...you need to come up with 3 other wii games!
Actually there are a bunch of good flips, and they're games most people aren't dying to get. Super Sluggers is a good one, but your best bets are the Wii games at around the $10 price point. Narnia's good. The best one is Spider-man Friend or Foe, the GS TIV for that is $10 (basically a 1:1 flip), but with the extra $25 promo, you're getting a ton. I usually stay away from the big titles like Brawl or Sluggers because A) they're more expensive, B) they would be better flipped if you're not using the Wii promo, and C) they're in high demand.
Trading in to BBV you want to open up the game. They might look at you like you stole the game if you want to trade a sealed game to them. I just traded a copy from GS and it it still getting $19.00 in BBV credit.

:ps3: Aerosmith with guitar - 29.99
Ok cool. I guess I'll open them up when I find something worth buying.
Ended up buying gta4 se... damn special edition games and their bonus items.
I'm the same way, the only reason I wanted SCIV CE is for the T-Shirt and the content code. I also like the GTAIV SE lockbox, which I use often.

I would trade your Rock Revolution games in ASAP before they lower the trade in value of 19.00 to lower than you paid for them...
Picked up:

:360: lost planet 2 ($9.99)

You went into the future?!? How did you pass the time barrier? I've been trying forever!
You went into the future?!? How did you pass the time barrier? I've been trying forever!
I'm pretty sure that robot fish come from the future.

P.S. Your name reminds me of James Pond 2: Codename Robocod.

Went to a different BBV yesterday and picked up:

Bioshock - $19.99
Grid - 19.99
Lost Planet Colonies Edition - $9.99
Banjo and Kazooie N&B - $19.99

All I need to find now are CoD 4 and 5, Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword and I am set til' inFamous comes out lol. Also Lost Planet is awesome lol I wish I would have gotten it sooner.

Some TIVs and an interesting nonTIV:

PS3 Rock Revolution holds at $19
PS3 Rock Band $2
PS2 Singstar Pop vol 2 $4.50
PS3 Guitar Hero 3 Don't accept

Not even a fifty cent value for GH3? I guess that the Rock Band and GH3 prices are permanent markdowns and not limited time sale prices, but $2 and Don't accept for those. Wow.

That's why I never give the jerk-off ebay horders any business or money. I can afford to pay a little bit more for retail than allow the ebay horders to profit from sucking up the good deals. Most people just want one copy of a specific game for a good price, but they can't buy one because the jerk ebayers hoard everything.

No luck on any of the stuff I wanted a the 3 blockbusters I stopped at. Oh well, theres anther 4 to try tomorrow. Really want GH3 for $5, and LoZ:pH and UTIII for $10 are the prices I have been hoping for.

Also would love to find a sealed Phoenix Wright. The game new sells at obsured prices.

Add a couple to the list:

Opoona $14.99
Universe At War $9.99

I thought it was crazy to see Opoona for sale at a Gamerush (a rare Koei Wii RPG) when I had trouble finding the game at GS. I was also looking around for DiRT, but found the price to be $14.99 New for PS3.
does anyone now the trade in values at blockbuster?
If only there were some sort of Blockbuster discussion thread that featured a list of trade in values in its first post...

One more for the list - PS2 X-Men Legends $4.99

The extra $30(I think it was $89.99, right?) wasn't really worth it for me. I thought the paltry soundtrack CD they included was going to be some of the stuff FROM the game and not some new tracks from some of the artists from the stations I don't even listen to in the game.

I haven't used the lockbox at all, cept to store the dufflebag, artbook, keychain and CD that I also haven't used.

So, for the extra $30, it was a waste, but I WANTED it. I just wish I had waited(since ShopGoodwill.com just had a couple of the SE's new/sealed for $35 shipped).

Of course, HAD I waited, I doubt I would've bought a PS3 until God Of War 3 comes out.

My CD is still sealed, but I actually use the duffle bag all the time, it sucks the zipper only works one way now. The lockbox, well, I keep a gun in that :whistle2:$(locked and up high on my swag shelf, of course). The keychain is on the shelf as well.

Wasn't worth the $90, but it was all in flip creds anyhow, so no biggie.

Drove 88 MPH through Blockbuster's window.

It's so hard to find bioshock and uncharted, i checked out 3 stores and none of them had it, i'm still hoping to find them, if anyone knows which store may have it in the nyc area, please contact me

So, last night I went to BBV and bought my sister's birthday gifts. I think she may be offended, but I laughed. I bought her Imagine Babies and Teacher or whatever they are called. (She's both preggers and a teacher).... I realize they are terrible games, but I couldnt resist.

Mine was cash money on the morning of release at a 24 hour WalMart. I went there with a friend and we waited in line. They only had 4 of the SE's and we took two of them(1 PS3, 1 360).

We got SO MANY evil glares from people for both grabbing the SE version, but if they wanted them, they had to have been waiting in line sooner than when we got there(10-10:30pm).

What was funny was that all of the people who fell for the pre-order shpeel from GS were gone with their booty by 10 after midnight, when we were just walking out with ours.

I tried the same thing, but my flux capacitor wasn't fluxing. I just got a bad case of whiplash.

TIV- Rock Revolution ps3 - still 19.

Bought Pure for 24.99 for 360.

Stopped by the local BBV. Gaming section was gone and the game clearance was on the counter. Picked up Civ Rev with my remaining credit. Viva Pinata:TIP was priced $5 lower than it should have been, so I picked that up for the kids (and me).
