Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Couldn't pass up an Advanced war Day of Ruin for 9.99.
Revenant wings is the last game I want from this sale. But I haven't seen it in any of the 6 SA BB's I've been in.

Got tired of wondering if Singstar ABBA was worth the flip from Target to Blockbuster and it's not. Only worth $12. Rock Revolutions are long gone around me too. That window's due to close soon also.

I thought it was peculiar to find this at my BBV:

:wii: Cranium Kabuki $9.99

This makes me think that they probably won't accept trades of this game. Can anyone confirm if they're still giving $16 credit for Cranium?
Don't forget that if you're also having problems finding Heavenly Sword at BBV during the clearance, it's also on clearance @ Sears for $19.97..
For clearance games at Sears, do they have to be marked to get them at the clearance price or will they automatically ring up at the clearance price? Also is Sears clearance nationwide or ymmv?

I traded one on Sunday for $16, so it could have dropped, but the bizarro TIV/used price for Kabuki you saw has been a long-running joke. They nerfed all the other TIVs, but that one lives on as a reminder of Blockbuster's cluelessness.

Actually, it was a new sealed Kabuki which is why I thought it was weird. It was in the same display case as the rest of the games on clearance. I wonder if I can get away with flipping that back to BBV. A little risky methinks.. Maybe I can wait a few days before trading it in.

Sears clearance is very YMMV. And it will most likely be marked incorrectly. I believe it's kind of like Target where the same games will be clearanced all over, just the price that varies. I've yet to find anything decent at my Sears in the few months I've been checking.
Are the BBV slim pickings now?

I am asking because the BBVs in my area are not participating in this sale.
They cannot choose to "not participate" as far as I know. The games will ring up what they are supposed to be. Now if they are franchise stores then I guess they could choose not to.

As for what's left, it's hard to say. I went to one tonight that was full of the same Imagine, Petz, and High School Musical DS games as the one I posted the picture from. But they did have Bioshock, R&C, Grid, and some other decent PS3/360 stuff. And they had Mario Sluggers, de Blob, etc. It's all stuff I would have bought had I not already had it.

What I find is amusing is that all of a sudden all the stores around here have sold their Mario Galaxy's even though those have been $25 all along (since December I think). Yet they aren't selling much else it would seem.

^^ Yeah all the BBVs in my area are franchises, I went to all of them except one which I called. The only game I am really wanting in Uncharted at $20 it is a great deal, everywhere else it is $59.

i ended up getting

Motorstorm Pacific Rift $30
Wall-E $15
Mario Super Sluggers $20
Wario Land Shake It $20

they had a few copies of bioshock for the ps3, but i didnt need them because i had it for 360 already

I grabbed a Mario Sluggers mis-priced at 14.99.:D Another copy next to it was 19.99. Sweet.

I feel like a lot of the games I might have gotten at $5 cheaper (Blob, Blox, Motorstorm 2, etc) and the games/prices I was intereseted in were all OoS. (Heavenly Sword)

Also picked up Furu Furu Park (wii) for $10 used, as my only other Taito Collection isn't backwards compatible on 360, lame.

Boom Blox is a must have at $20, one of the best games on the Wii IMO.

Stopped at 2 BBV's in Northeast Ohio yesterday and scored:

iconxbox360.gif

Mercenaries 2 $15
Lego Batman $20
Battlefield: Bad Company $15
Devil May Cry 4 LE $15

iconps3.gif

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga $10

Mario Party DS $15 x 2 (mislabeled)
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood $15

Not a bad day...
Are the BBV slim pickings now?

I stopped at an out of town BB (Greensburg PA) and was shocked at how much product they had. They didn't have what I wanted (Uncharted and The World Ends With You) but they did have a lot of Wii games and standout titles like Motorstorm: PR, Ratchet and Professor Layton.

I'd love to find Mario Strikers for 14.99 but 2 BBV's last night and no luck. I'll try a few more today. Mario Sluggers was tempting but doesn't sound like it has as much replay value.

Picked up Ratchet & Clank last night, made me happy. Been looking for that game forever. None of the Radio Shacks in my area carried games so I missed out on that clearance. Wanted to get House of the Dead, Pure, and Army of Two, but I just dont have the cash right now. Gonna stop by one more store today in hopes of finding The World Ends with You.

Anyword on the Gamestop coupon yet? Really hoping for a PS3 or 360 coupon that would make the Rock Rev trade in more lucrative.

Yeah that would be sweet. PS3 coupon would be better as it's cheaper than the 360 version already.

My guess is a PS2 coupon.

Went to another BBV this morning and they seemed to miss the memo about the clearance on new games. The only games marked with stickers were old sports games (2005-2006) and that was about it. I'm just glad to have found Professor Layton and Zelda when I did yesterday. I'm still in shock!

guess this thread slowed down again ;)

First is BBV purchase price followed by GS Base TIV.

:wii:
Far Cry: Vengeance $5 -> $6
Medal of Honor: Vanguard $5 -> $7
Spiderman: Friend or Foe $10 -> $10
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian $10 -> $8

Wow, those are good flips. I assume the Far Cry and MoH are used. Are the used prices nationwide?

Hmm, I was actually thinking about the Tony Hawk game. I have one store near my parents' house that still has that game. The TIV in the GS thread was a little outdated so I didn't pick it up when I had the chance.

Been looking for that $24.99 Saints Row 2 for PS3 and now heard from one of the managers that BB in my area (Greenville, SC) shipped them off to stores in New Jersey. What, they think that gang-based games will sell better there? I'm calling regional discrimination!

Went to two additional stores in SA today.
One had the prices marked near the door as you went in so of course it was cleaned out. The second had everything tagged wrong so I was finally able to score a Revenant Wings for $4.99
Is Professor Layton really that hard to come by?
Almost every BBV I've been to have at least 2 copies.
I've been to about 12 Blockbusters in the past week. I've seen Professor Layton at one store.

Man the selection from Monday to today really changed at one of the BBs I went to.

The only current quality titles left at the Mckinney store off Hwy 75 seem to be Ratchet & Clank (2-3), Motorstorm: PR (1 left), TWEWY (1), Devil May Cry 4 360 (1), De Blob (1) and HOTD 2&3 (2). The back rows that were lined with CEs on Monday only had RE5 and SF4, and the 18-20 stacks of various Rock Band and Guitar Hero sets dwindled down to about 5-7 (still can't believe these are going so quickly but a guy in front of me was buying one of each, my guess is people are seeing their original prices like 79.99-189.99 and the sale price of 29.99-54.99 and think they can sell in on Ebay for a huge profit). Good news is that the manager said that since this store usually generates more sales each month than the other BBs combined in the region, they have been getting shipments in from other stores.

Which brings me to some new prices of games I didn't see Monday:

Pokemon Battle Revolution (Wii) 14.99
The Orange Box (PS3) 4.99 the employee said he grabbed the only copy when the shipment came in
Magical Starsign (DS) 4.99 picked up the only copy
Kane & Lynch (PS3) 14.99
Dragon Ball something (DS) 4.99
Tony Hawk Project 8 (360) 4.99

I cant seem to find Battlefield bad company for any less the 29.99 for the xbox360. Tried 3 stores. Maybe CA has a different price list?

I stopped by two today, both were surprisingly empty of games for sale. However, I did manage to grab the only copy I saw of Prof Layton for $10 and a mispriced copy of Wario Land Shake It for $15 :)

Yeah same here. Been to about 15 BBV throughout Orange County, CA and about half of them had Battlefield Bad Company but @ $30.

I"m pretty sure it's only the PS3 version that's $14.99. I've only seen the 360 version at $29.99.

Not sure if these have been reported, but I saw:

Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters - 9.99
Madden 09 - 14.99
Star Wars: Force Unleashed - 14.99
NCAA Football 09 - 9.99 (may have been 14.99, can't quite recall)

360/Ps3 - Force Unleashed - 24.99

I stopped by 2 BBV during lunch hour and was able to pick up

PS3:
MGS4 $29.99
Rockband 2 $29.99
Bioshock $19.99

VERY great deal
THANKS!!

Will go to another 3 BBV on the way home to see if i can get devil may cry, uncharted, or assassin creed

What I wanted was not there but I didn't walk away empty handed. Picked up Rock Band Track Pack PS2, Blue Dragon, & Lost Planet (Platinum Ver.) all for $9.99 each. So not too bad.

If anyone could pick these up for me and I will pay for them, none of my Blockbusters have DS games.

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Meteos
Professor Layton
Sonic Chronicles
The World Ends With You

Finally found Mario Strikers at the last BBV I was willing to go to that was close enough to my house or work. Sweet deal.

Mario Sluggers was tempting for 19.99 but from what I've read it doesn't have much replay value.
