Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

The Blockbusters around my area have been having Buy One used game and get one equal or lesser priced game for free.
There has not been a big selection of games but I picked up Ballers - Chosen One (14.99) and NBA 2k8 (14.99) both for 360. So I figured only $7.50 each for a couple of basketball games wasn't too bad.

I don't know if this was covered, but I went today and saw some clearance priced games priced differently.

mainly

PS3
Assassins Creed ($24.99 with a price date of 4/15/09)

and

Resident Evil UC ($24.99 with same date)

I might be late into the sale.

also saw PS2 Growlanser Generation(disc only), tagged $14.99 but had bar code sticker with $6.99 on it. Would've been great deal if it was $6.99 but it scanned $14.99.

Pardons if this is old news, but Wario Ware Smooth Moves was $14.99 instead of $27.99 when I bought it this afternoon. They also had an empty display case for Bioshock (360) stickered at $14.99, but I can't actually confirm the price since they apparently misplaced the game.

I saw Far Cry 2 for the PS3 and 360 for $20, NEW, today. Went to 3 different BBVs and all had it at that price. Good pickup at that price if anybody was interested.

So, do not know if this has been posted or not...but it was our "message of the week"

BBV is selling 90% of their retail games to a company. They are going to focus more on expanding the rental game section and renting games better. BBV will still get SOME games into buy without preorders, but i assume it will only be the GTA type caliber games.

Also, someone posted earlier this is the exact opposite way of the direction they wanted to go, which is true. Jim keyes has admitted to some of the companys latest money woes being his fault, because they have spent a HUGE amount of cash on retail movies and games. He thought it would be like 7/11 where if they stocked it, someone would buy it.

It's sad to lose another option, but I've spent plenty of store credit at BBV in the past year, and the first new game I bought from them was during this clearance. Another CAG made a good point: People go to the video store to rent stuff, not buy it. Psychologically they're not prepared or interested in "shopping."

Everyone knows that Rock Revolution is listed at $10 at Best Buy for that deal starting Sunday, right? I don't remember reading it here, and have risked the bashing for the sake of laziness.

If they have dates on them I assume that means you are reading off the white strips with the bar codes? Those are used games then - that seems like the right price for those (yeah, more than the new copies).

Yeah, I kind of stopped updating the list when people were saying the sale was ending last weekend. But hell, no one else is gonna find WarioWare anyway so I'm still not updating it ;). As for Bioshock, it is $14.99 used - so that's probably what you saw.

I never even thought of that, but yea, tthey have the white strips on them... but they are new. I really don't know what is going on with my local bbv. sigh.
I bought

SingStar Country bundle from Sears for $4.97. In the parking lot, I unwrapped everything. Then I went back into the mall and traded the game in at GameStop for $9.25 and the mics for $3.50. And I bought
iconps3.gif
Rock Revolution for $12.99 used. Next, I traded Rock Revolution in at Blockbuster for $19.00 and bought
iconwii.gif
Boom Blox for $19.99.

Whew! It's a lot of work being a CAG, but it's fun!

My wife and I played the Boom Blox for a while last night. It's a lot of fun. She beat me pretty bad. I would almost knock over a big section for points, and then it would be her turn and she would steal them all from me!
If you didn't want the cash option Animeaniac pointed out, you shoulda done it a little different to get more credit at BB. Keep the singstar mics from the country bundle and buy a used PS3 Singstar from GS then trade mics and PS3 Singstar at BB for 36.

This is disappointing. They really had a chance here at breaking into video game retail. The problem is they did it poorly. They offered too much in TIV and didn't monitor it closely enough. They didn't merchandise it in store very well. They didn't market it at all. They didn't offer any "deals" that would make buying from them compelling. All in all it was a crappy effort, and I don't think they should be surprised one bit by the outcome.

They had an opportunity to make it work, and I still think that they could succeed, but they apparently lack the senior executive brainpower or perhaps corporate middle management smarts, to pull it off.

How stupid is this? I went to a local BBV and found a used PS3 copy of COD4 for $49.99. I took it to the counter to see if it's really that price, and when the girl scanned it she made a face and asked the manager, "It's scanning at this price, but how come there's a cheaper price for a new one (which I assume is the $24.99 price)". I asked if I could just have it at the new price and the manager denied me.

Amazing.

I totally overlooked this sale until someone pointed it out to me... good stuff! As far as I'm concerned, this is better than the hyped-up Best Buy sale because it features actual good games. :bouncy: Grabbed R&C Future last night.

Same thing happened to me! My bud let me know, knowing I haven't been to BBV since '06 (Thank You Netflix).
Picked up 3 games for 360. $14.99 each: Army of two, Viking, Mercenaries 2.

I will agree with you 100%.. this sale is great because its great games for the most part and its fun to stop in each of these blockbusters and see what they have... The Bestbuy one is going to be ok also if people actually find anything they want but its not like these are normally $50-60 games marked 50-75% in some cases like it is at Blockbuster...

On a side note there is one location that the prices are way high compared to others stores and this is even after getting the reluctant employee to scan them...This has been probably asked but Did anyone comfirm this was nation wide at all locations or was it that the "Franchise" locations are not included on this sale?

Thanks

Of course they didn't merchandise shit. The way BBV shows their merchandise to the consumer is to set up a wall of about 15-20 games with games CORPORATE thinks will sell (and I'm talking crap like Ninja Reflex) instead of just showing everything they have in stock like GS does. Virtually every BBV I went to in the past 3 months had ALL their games in a drawer behind the counter. NO ONE even knew they had games on sale unless they asked. During Christmas, though, most stores around here put all their games out on the floor, but that didn't work.

Of course she would deny you. Selling something used as new would screw up inventory for that specific store. How would a manager describe a missing COD4(used) game and the computer saying they had -1 copies of COD4(new) to corporate?

Just saw one BBV store that still had the $25 and $100 Visa gift cards for sale. I thought they had stop selling them all together, but they are still out there for those that are stugling to dump their BBV credit.

I've racked up on this one
This is disappointing. They really had a chance here at breaking into video game retail. The problem is they did it poorly. They offered too much in TIV and didn't monitor it closely enough. They didn't merchandise it in store very well. They didn't market it at all. They didn't offer any "deals" that would make buying from them compelling. All in all it was a crappy effort, and I don't think they should be surprised one bit by the outcome.

They had an opportunity to make it work, and I still think that they could succeed, but they apparently lack the senior executive brainpower or perhaps corporate middle management smarts, to pull it off.
Very well said. I wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying. The only "deal" they ever had was the stupid little framed art that even the employees didn't know about.
Of course she would deny you. Selling something used as new would screw up inventory for that specific store. How would a manager describe a missing COD4(used) game and the computer saying they had -1 copies of COD4(new) to corporate?
Calm down. He was just trying to get a deal by asking a very reasonable question. Managers in some companies may have the ability to override prices or modify inventory when the situation calls for it. Its not the job of the consumer to worry about a company's inventory accountability.

I didn't really see the poster above getting upset, he was just explaining why something used can't be sold as new. I am not sure any manager in any store would want to go to the hassle of taking something used out of inventory and putting it back in as new. And it's not the job of the customer to worry about inventory, which is why the manager did worry about it and didn't sell the used game as new.

just got confimation that the new games will be sent back this sunday. stores may begin to pull the games on saturday so if you dont see any games out ask them since the actual transfer cant be done until sunday.

Just saw one BBV store that still had the $25 and $100 Visa gift cards for sale. I thought they had stop selling them all together, but they are still out there for those that are stugling to dump their BBV credit.

they've been out for about a month now at all stores.

If that's true, then anyone in the Harrisburg area still interested in the :ps3: GTA IV Special Edition for $29.99 should check the Blockbuster on Union Deposit Road. They had one left as of 1 p.m. Thursday.

Also, it's important to recognize that this clearance is occurring in large part because blockbuster needs money. Obviously one customer isn't going to make a difference but letting that customer walk out without buying anything surely doesn't help increase your revenue.

Well, it is really no surprise that the used games are more than the new ones for the clearance stuff. They are trying to clear out their new inventory, and not, apparently, their used inventory. When all these new games go away the used games will be at "normal" prices. Though if they want to unload any of that stuff they need to have some sort of deal/sale as well!

Though I wonder if they will adjust the trade-in values back to what the should be given the used prices. Right now the TIV on these games is set by what it sells for new. For example, Rock Band for PS3 TIV is $2.50 which "matches" a used sale price of $9.99. Problem is, that's the current new price. Used it is $14.99 or $19.99 or $24.99? So the TIV should be higher - wonder if they'll adjust them back up when all the new stuff is gone. If not, then, yeah, they should also drop the used prices.

Oh well, it's not like any of this matters any more. I am now completely out of credit. It seems even the possibility of getting Rock Rev for $10 at Best Buy on Sunday doesn't mean much as the games will be gone by then. I'm not sure how much credit I'd want even at half price ($10->$19) once that happens.

Still, though, this sale has to have injected a bunch of cash into their struggling company. Most CAGs who are just finding out about this deal aren't using trade credit and 99% of the general public aren't either. Even I used about $50 in real money there the other day (for the first time in 4 years).

picked up condemned 2 and ratchet and clank future yesterday :D, came back today to ask if they had deadspace or oblivion.....but sadly no :'( so now i have to somehow get to another blockbuster lol

Sorry, haven't seen those at all in the south bay lately. Actually, it's pretty well dried up for the past couple weeks.

Today I found

Final Fantasy III DS $4.99
The World Ends with You $14.99
The Legend of Zelda the Phantom Hourglass $9.99

All new sealed. It was a good day.

:)

So let me get this straight.

Grand Theft Auto IV used for 360 runs $15? And Blockbuster is still running the B1G1 free? Also does anyone know what Call of Juarez runs for these days? I hope its under $15 because that would really make my week to snag GTA4 and Call of Juarez for $15.

I know right where that's at(even though I'm 2 hours away), as I used to frequently hit the auto auctions down that way for work often. Nice little area. I made a deal with someone for a copy of Stubbs The Zombie outside a nearby Gamestop about 2-3 years ago down that way.

I haven't been back to my local BBV stores since this sale was supposed to have ended, but if they actually dropped the prices MORE I'd gladly pick up more stuff.

So Gamestop B2G1 weekend. Any ideas for 1:1 (or greater, obviously) flips besides Rock Revolution? I have the usual dilemma of not having three games I want, and BBV has helped out in these situations in the past. I haven't seen anything promising so far, but it's possible something from the latest price drops fell through the cracks...

Thanx to this thread i have picked up:
Blue Dragon $9.99
Drawn to Life $9.99
Wario Land Shake it $19.99
SMG $24.99
SSBB $24.99
I was looking for Professor Layton and The World Ends With You, but sadly, out of the four BBV I went to they didn't have them. :(

how do those work? do they charge a fee for buying the visa cards? I dropped by my local BBV and they had a rack full of those visa cards.

Oh and rock revolution is still getting $19, I traded in my ps3 copy tonight.

Yes, I can't remember how much exactly, but I believe it's listed on the package. Something like $4 for the $25 card, $5 for the $50 card and $6 for the $100 card.

You have it kind of curved - The B1G1 ended in January. Yes GTA is still 15, Juarez is probably less.

Alright, Gamestop B2G1 free, AND blockbuster trade in time.. WOOT WOOT! now to find 3 games worth flipping (cause i cant bring in 2 of the same game to my BBs, they get edgy)

Stopped by the local BB/GR and picked up:

DS
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia $14.99
Final Fantasy IV $14.99

Wii
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World $19.99

I was considering picking up Chrono Trigger, but it was still $29.99 (25% off).

Picked up the last copy of Socom U.S. Navy Seals: Confrontation Bundle for $34.99.

If anyone's looking for Professor Layton and the Curious Village, my local BB has one more new copy left.

Shoot me a PM and I'll send it to you for cost + shipping.

singstar still trades in for 36? hmm..:whistle2:k

Thanks to the thread for helping me get a good haul this morning in one stop. May hit up another later, but I got:

Ratchet & Clank Size Matters :ps2: $9.99
Trace Memory :ds: $4.99
Millionheir :ds: $9.99

Two new DS games that my wife might like means more time to play Ratchet

GTA IV used for both 360 and PS3 is $14.99 - it has been that way for about 5 months now. They are not running B1G1 free as far as I know. We all hope that they will again in the near future but no one knows. Surely, Call of Juarez is less than $14.99 but I haven't seen it there in ages.

The sale did not end and they did not drop prices. However, now we are hearing that it will end this weekend. Of course we heard that last weekend too ;).

I'm pretty sure it was $6.95 for the $100 card. I got a couple back in Nov before they pulled them. Supposedly they only brought them back after not allowing them to be purchased with store credit. But someone else here confirmed that they could still buy them with credit. I still have a bit on one of them and at this point wish I hadn't ever bought them in the first place (losing that $6.95 on top of the $100) as I have spent about $50 in cash at BBV during this latest sale and would have preferred to save a bit of credit not only for that but for any potential used game deals down the line.
