Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I sure hope BB doesn't go bankrupt... yet - got a free one year trial of their mail-in program (comparable to Netflix) w/the purchase of my projector. Good thru Thanksgiving...
Wow, are you serious? I guess I should have believed that Circuit City employee that told me Best Buy was going to take them over since clearly he had inside information.
I was just pointing out that although an employee might not know anything, it doesn't really mean we know more. I don't think Sony buying out BBV is out of the question - as it was said, it's a big brand and they could easily make it a netflix for ps3 sorta thing. I don't believe the employee knew more than anyone else, but, neither do I nor you. If you do, I'd love to hear it.

phew, Finally cleaned out my BBV credit. Picked up a cobalt/black ds and lost odyssey with my credit + $10.

I went to 4 stores, and all of them had nearly no new games, still some used, hence lost odyssey for $20. They all had their game sections in disarray, games on the floor, stacked up, ect... I asked all of them if they were getting rid of their game section and they all said they were rearranging them. Odd that they all did it on the same day, although I went to one twice, to pick up the lost odyssey I saw there, and they had completely organized their game section. No consoles, except a few cobalt and red DSs. The manager at one store actually said they would get DSi's in the summer. huh? seems unlikely.

Spent almost all of the remaining credit I had on macy's gift cards and a couple cheap dvds the other day. have around $50 left that I will probably use on their used blu-ray sale going on now and then ill probably be done with bbv for good.
I guess you own BBV or have some major internal knowledge we don't have?
I'm not claiming that I do know anything, but I can smell bullshit. There's no point spreading BS rumors created by some low level employee. It's just a waste of time. Honestly, I'd love to ask the girl what makes her think that, and see if she even has a response. I'd rather know nothing than have bad info.

Sorry if I came off rude, I was having a bad day, and it made me a little mad cause sometimes people act like customer service employees are stupid and don't know anything about their job, when really I think it's a different story. I know that's not what you were getting at but it's somehow how I took it.

im gonna keep my ds sealed in case i want to return it, if they dont go out of business, so i can get an all black ds, if they ever get a new shipment.

But at the BBV i went to, when i asked if they had any other colors, he said no just these, they transferred the remaining stock to our store. odd?

It's cool man. I just figured if she didn't have some kind of reliable source, it was basically womanly gossip, haha. I mean, knowing who the company is potentially selling out to isn't exactly the job of a clerk. No apologies needed though. We all have days like that. :)

I actually used to work for Blockbuster, and it was funny when I'd come to work with some news about something with the company that I had read about on the internet - like a plan changing or something - and we wouldn't officially hear about it until later. Sometimes though, we heard about things early on - although I don't think a Sony buyout would be something they would hear first.
I always love it when know nothing employees give their two cents on the inner workings of their employer. Why the hell would Sony, of all companies, invest in an antiquated business model? BBV already owes them money. I don't see how anything Blockbuster owns could be of any use or value to Sony. Add to that the rumor that Netflix's streaming service is headed to the PS3. It just doesn't make sense.
A very good point. I work at blockbuster and when people ask me "Are you guys going out of business?" I say "I don't think so". That's all I know, I'm super low man on the totem pole, and I don' feel like lieing. However one of the managers(who I think is too dramatic and stupid) talks WAY too much to TOO many people, and I can totally see her saying crap like this with me rolling my eyes in the background.

Only thing I know is that I've been told and have read a notice saying that they're doing refinancing and not to discuss the possibility of us closing.(Which of course even if we were, no one would want to say "we're closing, stop relying on us for business")

Here's the deal on stores that are rearranging the gaming section. BBV is rearranging the gaming section so they can get more "game rentals." It kind of makes sense seeing how video game rentals are expensive as hell. That's what BBV has been pushing for a while now. They are trying to get people to notice that they do have games and they aren't just a movie store. Everyone knows about movies when they hear the name BBV, but not everyone knows they have games. You wouldn't believe how many people come up to me when I'm working and ask if we have used games or new games for sale >_

Darkrider - that fits in with what a manager told me a week or two ago (right before the games went away). Though she took it a little further and said they were getting rid if the new games specifically so they could concentrate more on game rentals. I don't know if the two are related and she may have just made that assumption (after all, they could focus on games more all around by pushing BOTH sales and rentals). It seemed silly to me at the time but I guess there was definitely a nugget of truth in there ;).

As for me, I haven't stepped foot in a BBV since they sent the games away so I couldn't tell you what the stores look like now. I'm down to about $4 in credit (and I only have that because I found one of the $5 bonus gift cards I got, like 2 years ago, after I had to resort to paying cash there for my last few things). However, my daughter happened to get a BBV gift card from a friend for her birthday so I need to make sure that small amount is safe I guess.

I would return those anyhow, they are getting $4 TIV since last week.

The only way BBV is going to have more people renting games is if they lower the GD price. What is it now, $9 dollars with tax?Did they bring back late fees too?

DAMN!!! The Singstar bundle still gets $36 in credit? I took it to a local shop and sold it to them for $15 in cash. Of course, this was after getting my copy price adjusted to the $1.97 price from the $9.97 I paid originally and cash is still better than BBV credit if you ask me, especially since they did away with the new games and the clearance prices on them.

Yeah, they brought back late fees. My dumbass went in there to pay cash (GASP!) to rent Wolverine.... (had a rent 1, get 1 coupon expiring soon so figured I'd use it). Game is fun, btw.

Game rentals are $8.99 (I think... might have been $7.99) for 5 days, 99 cents each day after due date. Sucks. Seems pretty stupid to pay nearly $10 for a 5-day rental considering I often can buy games for $10-$15 (once they've been out a while).

And I did notice that the big 'ol stand with all the cheap games was gone.

Where were people getting the Singstar bundle from? I think it was Sears and I also thought that BBV wasn't accepting accessories that come with games anymore?

My closest Blockbuster had the Singstar bundle for sale complete in the package and either re shrinkwrapped or in a security case a while back.
Yep, it's still 36 I swear to god. I traded a Singstar and a Bukkake to a store that I've traded both of them into before. I honestly don't give much of a fuck anymore. I'm just going to buy blu rays and giftcards and stupid crap anyway. I've seen 3 different Boondock Saints framed art pieces I'm waiting to drop at least to $19.99.

None of the stores gave me any trouble about trading in peripherals, so it could be a reginal thing maybe. Although maybe i just ran into some really kind and generous BBV employees today.

For the past 2 or 3 years I remember B1G1's on games during the summer, but I think they were towards the end of the summer. I have a feeling there isn't going to be one this summer, but if there is, I'm ready. If they go bancrupt and don't honor my valuecards and/or giftcards, I'm totally screwed.

BB's stock went up by 22% on Friday, did they have some kind of announcement/press release regarding Monday?

I really do hope they pull through, I wanna dump my stock as soon as possible if i can avoid making it a complete loss.

You invested money in Blockbuster stock? Maybe next time you invest money in the stock market you should do more research or something.

Note that I was told by a BBV manager that they got a memo about not accepting games with accessories (along with games without cover art) any more so that Singstar bundle trade-in is very YMMV. Never mind - I see this was discussed since my last refresh.

Also just for those new to the thread because of the game clearance or whatever, the "Cranium Bukkake" thing is an inside joke in the thread. The game is really Cranium Kabooki (for the Wii). I don't want these clowns scaring off any new people or making them think we're a bunch of weirdos, so I just want to make that clear ;).

Thx for bringing this up io. I'm so tired right now, I wasn't thinking about warning any newcomers to this thread. I apologize to those who don't know or care what the heck we're talking about. If BBV would lower the TIV, the dumb old joke could die. Until they do, whenever there's a 20% off Wii coupon at GS, I'm gonna flip every cranium bukkake I can get my hands on. :D
Which singstar bundle is this? Theres a bunch of them.
He's referring to the first Singstar on PS3. There are only two singstar games for PS3 and vol 2 bundle is not in BBV's system. I think vol 2 game only is 14 or 12.
Where were people getting the Singstar bundle from? I think it was Sears and I also thought that BBV wasn't accepting accessories that come with games anymore?
It was Sears, but it's been since December that people started getting it there for 10 and January it dropped to 5 and more recently Target, but it should be out of system there. Also, Sears, Target and some other places have clearanced the PS2 bundles. I had several left over mics from buying all of the PS2 bundles in order to just get the games, so during the last GS B2G1 I got several PS3 Singstars to trade in to BBV with the left over mics (PS2 and PS3 Singstar mics are the same). Much better than just getting $3 per mic at GS.

It was the day after IO first reported this and the guy was done ringing me up then another guy came up and said that they couldn't take any games in trade (he was obviously only partially right) and that they had to reverse the transaction. I got other stores to take the bundle no problem (it was really easy when I had a big purchase ready at one store!) so it's still possible, just YMMV. If they don't want accessories anymore they shouldn't have a TIV for bundles, just the games like they have done with Sstar vol 2.

Lol, well when i Bought it at $1.28 i figured it couldnt go any lower. It went up to 1.92 at one point and then crashed to 22 cents a share.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, in March I was planning on buying two thousand shares of Bank of America stock when it was at $3 a share. I hesitated and a month later it went up to $12 a share and is currently at $14.17 (meaning 2k shares would've been a "flip" of $6,000 -> $28,340). Needless to say, I am kicking myself big time...

Hey - this is pretty OT - but are there any sites you can recommend to help me get into the stock market? Do you just use one of the ones online, or do you have a broker or something? If it's not obvious, I know NOTHING about the stock market except what I learned playing that free stock game in high school. But I did pretty decent back then for using not real money, once I realized how to investigate stocks instead of just picking ones I knew the ticker symbol for.

Well, a stock market resource site that I have used to learn more about stock is www.investopedia.com. They share information on a wide range of topics for finances and trends to keep up on.

One of my business school prof's recommended motleyfool.com for anyone interested in getting into the stock market game. I'm by no means an active investor (despite a portfolio), but I've read some interesting articles on there.

Thanks cdeener and safire. I've looked at motleyfool before (I think I somehow have a book of theirs too), but I've never seen investopedia. I also Recently came across stocktwits, like twitter for stocks I guess, but I know little about both :p

Wow, I used to read the Motley Fool back in the late 90's when I first had some money to invest. What a blast from the past there. I didn't realize they were still around . By the way, they were dead wrong on some stuff back then (in retrospect) but I've sure they've evolved since then.

just as a heads up, didn't see it posted anywhere...buddy of mine who works at BB let me know today that the Rock Revolution TIV has dropped to $4 from $19 and for whoever asked for the TIV for MLB Front Office Manager, its $10

Yeah, the TIV for Rock Rev dropped mid-week (I think on Weds?). I now have 3 of those to return to Best Buy . Also, thanks for the MLB FOM quote. I just picked up 2 of those tonight for $9.98. I guess those go back to Target. I should have figured if they were still there Saturday from last Monday's drop that it is neither a good game nor worth anything ;).

"Value card cannot purchase Gift cards."
I was denied by a store by some prick assist manager and got robbed $50 balance.

I was buying 2x $25 Darden cards for mom's day. The cashier scanned the two cards, total came up and I slide my Value card like normal. Then the cashier said they cannot take Value-card for GC. I said I have done it before but the assist manager beside him kept saying no. I walked out thinking everything was canceled.

So I went to a second store, they allowed the purchase. After the receipt I noticed the balance was $50 less. I had ~270 today but after that it became 170.
fuckers at the first store took $50 off. :bomb:

I went back to the store's cashier, he said everything was canceled and he has no idea where the balance went. He dug out the receipt showing the transaction was canceled but my balance was still missing. My guess: fucker took the transaction and probably canceled it and refund to his own value-card. either that refund dont go back to the value card?

So pissed that I would call the corporate to check my balance right awat but I need to wait till weekdays.

That sucks so fuckin hard. I hope you get your credit back. At this point, they should offer you cash. They won't, but I think they should. I bought gift cards on Friday with my value card and on Monday at a different Blockbuster also with my value card. I haven't checked to see if the giftcards work, but they still sold them to me.

I just remembered, once I returned a new unopened $60 game to BBV and they couldn't figure out how to put the credit back on to the value card, so they gave me $60 plus tax in cash back. Not everyone will do this. I'm just saying it might be difficult or just impossible to put credit back onto a value card after using it to buy a giftcard. Maybe one of our BBV insiders can help u more.

Hopefully you can get the manager to look at the transaction history. NEVER walk away from a store credit transaction though...

I think if you call the number on the VC you can get a detailed transaction history. Have them fax it to you and go bezerk on that stores manager until he fixes it.

They screwed up one of my VC's a while back, after I had them check the balance in store. They ended up entering the VC's # manually and it ended up that the next person to check out got their shit for free off of my credit.

I raised hell until they corrected the situation.

Wow, that happened to me once except I was the person that ended up with someone elses credit. It was during one of the B1G1 used game sales and I didn't really figure it out until I got home and looked over all my receipts. I guess this is one of those of those errors that happens every now and then. Remind me to never return anything at BBV.
