Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Stopped by a local regular Blockbuster and then a GameRush location.

The regular store only had a handful of ps2 games, nothing special.

The GameRush, however, was completely stocked. Probably over 60 ps2 games ($2.99), 40 360 games ($6.99), and even about 20 old xbox games ($1.99). It was definitely quantity over quality, but still worth a look because you can find some gems. I don't know what magical machine they have that does resurfacing, but each of these discs looks near factory mint quality.

Picked up for myself:
Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition (ps2)
Guitar Hero World Tour (ps2)
Conker Live and Reloaded (xbox)

Visiting 4 different stores so far, I've bought about 30 games so far.
Not bad flips.

IO, a friend in FL is charged for not having the case with the game (i believe 50 cents per game), which is strange. I've never been charged for this ever.
Yes they will take them w/o cover art and manual. YMMV on whether they give you less. Some stores may charge "refurb" fees on them.
Very informative-- thanks. One other question: is it a good idea to remove any Blockbuster labels, markings, etc. or does it matter?

They come off VERY easily from the cases that you'll find these games in.
But you don't really need to. I would, just to be nice.

The one gamerush store i went to must of just got there pre pack shipment because they had three plastic boxes filled to the top with games. I ended up getting Halo 3 x2, Call of Duty 4 x3, and GOW2 PS2 I then made some trades to GS to get UFC 360. Good flipping today.

Recently my local GameStop has been charging .50 cents for games missing the case, too. They never used to do this either.

You know this is another perfect storm situation, 3$ games that trade 2x at GS combined with 30% preorder movie game, and 10$ in movie cash. Damn, I just unloaded my second set on a Ghostbuster preorder (which comes with a kewl tshirt, so even more free goodness), and I have 1 more set that I will unload at a GS close to my house, for more movie cash. Normally I would do multiple transactions at my fav store, but GS Corp threatened it's staff with instant firing, if they took multiples of a single game from a customer, or sealed games. So it's back to only trading a certain game, 1 time per day, per store. I feel like I'm trading at BBV :)

Stoned, do the trade-ins you're making completely payoff or go over the amount of the pre-order game?

If so, does the extra just go to regular credit?

I heard the same thing at the GS I went to last night - definitely a crack down on multiples. One clerk asked the other if they would track if someone traded a multiple in the next day and he said he didn't think so - it was just on one transaction.

So you are getting the movie cash immediately along with a preorder? Damn, they told me I had to wait till the game came out.

dallow - I did fully pay off mine but I don't think they required it. And yeah, the extra (since I had $91 total) just went on my Edge card.

derspiess - Yeah, take off the stickers. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference but there's no point bringing attention to where these came from. If, for example, they get inundated with disc-only PS2 games and there's a lot of talk of them coming in with BBV stickers they may exclude them from the next promo or something. It's always better to clean them up first. And like dallow said, it takes all of 1 minute to completely clear the stickers off of like 10 of these games.

Thanks much!

I was just thinking about UP for PS2 as you stated before.
Since it's only 20, I know my TIV is going to be way more than that.

"Someone" at the BB by my house must've messed up the labels. You see, the labels are generic for videogames, so, switch a few labels around, and I got Force Unleashed for seven bucks. WOAH!

PPL, don't be tempted to do this, it's fraud, and it's illegal. It's just not worth it.

Went to a Rock Hill, SC area store and found they had this deal. There was a table set up front with about 100 games on it. I picked up 6 Xbox games at $1.99

Medal of Honor: European Assault
Godfather: The Game
MX vs. ATV
Flatout 2
Battlefront
Full Spectrum Warrior

They had more PS2 titles than anything

So I stopped by a few other BBV in Orange County, CA today. The one on Magnolia & Atlanta in Huntington Beach had about 30 ps2 games left. I picked up the last copies of GOW II and Kingdom Hearts II. I talked to the manager and the games are in fact for the memorial day sale which starts tomorrow. He said mainly the gamerush stores would be getting the POGs and he was nice enough to call other BBV to find out which ones got shipments. The BBV on Warner & Bolsa in Huntington had about 50 ps2 games but no xbox or 360 games. Some decent titles, but nothing I really wanted. Lastly, the BBV on Harbor & Adams in Costa Mesa had gotten a shipment of games but they weren't out yet. The manager let me look through them and I picked up GT4 and MGS2: Substance. She said they would only have ps2 and xbox games and that she was suppose to get another shipment of games today.

So I can add Valley View / Lampson & Katella / Euclid to know locations. That makes 5 within my district, which is alot, but not one of them has anything other than PS2.

I killed this deal today. I picked up Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4 Battlestations Midway, and Call of Juarez, and Modern Warfare all for 6.99. I got God of War 2 Final Fantasy 12 and a bunch of other good PS2 games all for 2.99. This deal was amazing!! Thanks OP.

Stopped by my local store and picked up a few ps2 games. The employee told me all the systems were divided meaning my store got ps2, another store 60 miles away received the ps3 and another store in another city got xbox 360 etc. Only 1 out of the 3 stores in my city had these.

I just checked a Nashville BBV, asked them to search the system for prepack games (initial response: "Can we even do that?..."), and none of the Nashville area stores got them, which isn't surprising, since they are all franchise stores.
one of the best buys near me (in md) said they knew about the deal but never got anything
i can see why best buy never got any of these deals...went to the blockbuster in kingston pa tons of ps2 games and 1 rack of 360 games..didnt look through the ps2 games but for the 360 i seen..

frontlines fuel of war
stuntman ignition
call of duty 4
gears of war
army of two
dark sector
phantasy star 3
halo 3
grand theft auto 4
eragon

I went today and the only game I got was Mercenaries 2 but here is what I saw:

PS2- too many games to mention

360- I saw GTA4, Mercenaries 2, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Frontlines, Civilization, Guitar Hero 3, Dark Sector, Grid, Earth Defense, Maddn 2008, Fight Night, Stuntman, and Fable 2. All were priced at $6.99.

Just came back from the Valley View location in OC...only thing they had for X360 was Dark Sector...I was hoping to score Halo 3 for my nephew...called the FV store and no go either. They did have a ton of PS2 games as well.
So I can add Valley View / Lampson & Katella / Euclid to know locations. That makes 5 within my district, which is alot, but not one of them has anything other than PS2.
You can add the BBV on Lake Forest Dr. in Lake Forest, CA as well. I picked up Killzone, MGS3, and Drakengard 2 for the Ps2. They had about 100 Ps2 POGs, but no xbox or 360 games. They had quite a few GOW II, Kingdom Hearts II, GTA:VCS, GTA:LCS, and Bully games left. I talked to the manager at the counter and he said that he was expecting to receive xbox and 360 games as well, but they didn't come in. To his knowledge, none of the BBV in the district got any xbox or 360 games. One of the managers from another store mentioned that she was expecting a shipment of games today to put out for tommorrow, so I'll probably stop by a few again tomorrow.
Has anyone seen Sacred 2 or UFC: Undisputed at BBV ?
Didn't those games just come out? I would say you have a 0% chance of finding them as part of this sale considering everything has to be prepackaged.

Nothing great at the 3 stores I stopped at. One had nothing, one had like 3 games for PS2 and 3 for 360, and the third one had maybe 50 PS2 games but nothing worth bragging about. Bought a few to flip to Gamestop (Transformers, MTX, some other crap games I forget).

Struck out at 3 BBV's in Syracuse, NY. Nothing at any of them. If anyone is feeling generous, I'm looking for CoD4, and would gladly help out in return any way I can!

:cracks fingers:
5 BBV stores total.
Spent $98 and now have $500 in GS credit. Good stuff.

Strangely, no copies of CoD4.
The main reason I got so much was one store having a ton of Guitar Hero: World Tour for PS2.

World Tour.... I couldn't believe it.

360- i saw gta4, mercenaries 2, halo 3, call of duty 4, frontlines, civilization, guitar hero 3, dark sector, grid, earth defense, maddn 2008, fight night, stuntman, and fable 2. All were priced at $6.99.
fable 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

No 360 games at the three BBVs that I checked today.

I did grab 5 PS2 games and Hitman for the Xbox for about $20 total. Mmm...Rogue Galaxy for $3.

Thanks again guys, I really hope those 360 games show up, and I get a job at the local bank. That, would be fucking sweet.

The BB across the street here in Houston has these. I picked up COD4. The mostly had old sports games. Other stuff included: Army of Two, GTA4, Condemed 2, and Simpsons.

And a big tub of PS2 titles that I didn't look through

my BB had boxes of ps2 and xbox games, I asked about 360 games and was told they might be getting some in next week. So there might be some hope still at ppls BBs next week.

Came up zeroes at three BBs today that had POGs before, none were GRs. At one GR they only had xbox games. Would have picked up 4, but the line was too long and they'll be there tomorrow. Anyone see GC games this time around?

derspiess - Yeah, take off the stickers.
Yep, it was easy. Took all the stickers off of the batch I traded in today. Have more to trade in tomorrow (didn't want to overdo it on my first time :D ). The GS I went to did charge me $.50 per game for missing cover art or whatever, but I still doubled my money on what I traded in, even after buying my Edge card.

I hit 5 locations total today, 3 here in Cincinnati and 2 in Northern KY. The first one I had visited (with the three clear bins) was by far the best, and now I'm wishing I had picked up more 360 titles. The other place in Kentucky had an okay selection, but for whatever reason it seemed like they only kept a few of them on display. I should've asked if they had any more but I was in a hurry.

The BBV's here in Cincinnati were not so hot. One place had nothing, the other had what looked like maybe 2 titles, and the other just had a handful of PS2 games.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with advice

For those in Hawaii, nothing at the Mililani Blockbuster. Asked one of the employees who said that these sales would happen at all BBs- I'm guessing that's a bit inaccurate since they likely don't know much about this yet.

Struck out in La Habra, CA. I know another CAG had good luck their last night, but I stopped in tonight hunting for COD4 and Halo 3. No luck on those, but I did grab a couple of older 360 games that I either haven't played yet (Bully, Mass Effect) or haven't played in a while (Fight Night Round 3).

Was tempted by a few others, but nothing really caught my eye. For anyone in the area, they had a copy of Oblivion, Smackdown 07 and 08, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2, Condemned 2, Army Of Two, Kane & Lynch, The Club, Need For Speed Pro Street, Test Drive Something or other, and a bunch of sports games. Still two copies of Bully if anyone's looking for that one.

Some of you people have insane amounts of games. I'm particularly jealous of Dallow - he hits 5 BBV and gets $500 worth of GS stuff. I've gone to about 8, and only 3 have had new shipments of any sort and those were all the minimum (30) PS2 games. Still, I was able to convert a few things from those stores into about $150 at GS. I got the best things from the store 1/2 mile from my house and then a bit more from the second one I went to. All my time after that was pretty much wasted. However, on the way out of town for a family trip tomorrow I plan on hitting up a store that supposedly has 91 PS2 games. I can't imagine seeing that many in one place. Hopefully my family doesn't disown me for stopping there - I haven't told them my plan yet ;).
