Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Ps3 FarCry 2 Free

I told the BBV employee about the b1g1 free deal and he manually changed it. I didnt have to choose between games 14.99 and under! YaY! I might go back and get Fallout 3 and GH:WT for 29.00

You got lucky, the b1g1 is only for $14.99 and less games

I might swing by another Blockbuster or two to see if they anything else exciting. I got two already, but I am a sucker for good gaming deals!

not a good flip. Big game hunter tiv is $2.50 and dangerous hunts is $6.00
What about x-blades for the ps3? It could be an almost decent flip from GS->BBV like Wheelman ps3.

x-blades tiv is $19.00

we received our price changes today due to the holiday tomorrow. Unfortunately the only thing dropping in my store to $14.99 is nds-Madagascar 2. Every store will be different based on inventory but nothing good here. Another thing, going forward price drops will happen every 2 weeks instead of every week and they will take effect on Mondays instead of Sunday so this will be the only drop during this sale.

I went to a store a bit out of the way, the only one of about six that had no signs or price updates. I was able to get Bioshock (PS3), Okami (Wii), TWEWY, Spider-Man WoS (360), QoS (360), MX vs. ATV Untamed (PS3, cashier could not find the disc, so she took the disc from a rental copy. This would have been the fifth time that this happened week)

NOT BANNED!
Was able to trade at a different district BB, so I think I may just be store banned. Don't blame them, I used that store to get most of the Macy's gift cards for 2 Ipod touches.
That store had nothing worthwhile, clerk said someone came in the night before and cleaned them out.
Went even further, even though this mystery person could have hit the next store but was able to grab GTA IV(360), MX ATV(wii), Baja(360), and Williams Pinball(wii for me, been wanting to try that)
Got the kids some happy meals and went a little further.
Scored: Professor Layton DS(7.50---$16.50 GS) Sweet
Incredible Hulk(wii and 360), and TWEWY DS.
Never done, but will take the weekend off and double check stores next week for scraps for the tiered promo.
The Gardena BBV is easily one of the worst in the SoCal area. I don't even bother going there unless it's to trade games in (haven't been there since Dec 08 ).

Yeah, I know it sucks but it's close to my house :D. I tried to one in torrance and the one in lawndale (near the galleria) but they didn't have jack either and QoS rang up at 19.99. Got any suggestions on what blockbusters are good in the area because I can't find anything when any sale goes on at blockbuster ;).

Sussex, WI Blockbuster

Came away with 007 Quantum of Solace and Bioshock for the PS3. However, 007 rang up at $19.99. I had them scan both stickers on the case and on the sleeve and both were $19.99(it was also tagged this). Anybody else experience this? I thought Blockbuster prices weren't YMMV. I was still able to get Bioshock for free so I guess it wasn't a loss coming away with two games for $20. Now to trade them in for FNR4

My bad. Didn't know that but at least I was able to still get Bioshock for free and I still have a copy of GTA from the last sale so $27.50 for FNR4 sounds good to me.

picked up some smaller games to make at least a little profit...I am at $60 of games traded in to now $490 Gamestop Credit and Batman Arkham Asylum free on Amazon (hopefully, haha).
Not sure if this was already mentioned but most strategy guides are 50% off. Was able to get Fallout 3 Collectors Edition Guide for under $18.
Is this YMMV? Because I too saw this deal at one BB. Is this a secret part of the sale that nobody knows about?! I'd pick up Fallout 3 CE at half off if I saw it.

Possibly YMMV, however, many CAGs have reported that their BBV have had 50% off on guides.

I went to several Blockbusters in my area (Sacramento) and noticed that they all were going to have 4th of July sale with 20% off everything on sale in store starting at 8AM. They won't let you stack for the B1G1 $14.99 or less or the 3 for $20 or 4 for $20 on used DVDs.

Picked up Battlefield BC and Lego Indy Jones (both for the 360) for $15.00.

Guess that wasn't too bad of a deal? Unfortunately, the BBC didn't have a manual included....

all blockbusters that are corporate and are not closing have the same prices, same promos, same everything. you might see different prices at different stores but it just means they dont keep up with the repricing.

the only thing that may differ is the rental prices and options since there are test markets all over the country trying out different pricing schemes.

Hawaiiboy, so is the 50% off guides an official corporate deal that should ring up at all non-franchise BBs?

Sorry to be off topic but I can't seem to find the official Gamestop trade in value's thread if anyone could link me or tell me how to get to it I would appreciate it

Slim pickings at the Blockbuster I ransacked last B1G1 under $15 promotion. Saw a lot of the same titles as last time and not much new stuff. Ended up with QOS and Ninja Gaiden II.

Love these sales, for under $8, you can afford to find out whether or not a game sucks.

Got Condemned 2 and Meet The Robinsons for $7 total.
I was happy that they both had original case and manual.

Went to another Blockbuster and again, employees didn't know about the sale and had to call their manager.

Brought a few games up and interesting that all the $14.99 ones were ringing up at $9.99, so I figured what if their system was wrong and so I brought Resident Evil V for the XBOX 360 and that one was brought down to $39. Hehe...I guess they haven't been changing the prices because some of the $39 games were ringing up as $19. But oh well, that would've been sweet to get Resident Evil V cheap....but anyway bought like 12 games for less than $60.
Anyone finding games that aren't on the list that are $14.99 or cheaper?
Best two I've seen that aren't on the list at the top of the OP are Dead Rising and GRAW2, both for 360 and price tagged 14.99 at a store here.

Went to a few stores...all 360 except for BC.

Store 1:
Burnout Paradise
SoF:payback

Store 2:
Spiderman: WoS
James Bond: QoS

Store 3:
Battlefield: BC
Lego Batman

I'll be using a game of my own, QoS, and WoS to get FNR4 at GS. So basically $48 for Burnout Paradise, Lego Batman, SoF, and FNR4. Not bad at all!
Lego Batman Wii dropped at GS to $5.00 before bonus. So stay away
Dammit! I just picked that up last night too. At least I should make my money back.

A couple of things

1. Spider-Man: WOS Wii TIV at Gamestop is $6.
2. Fracture is no longer a good flip to GS as it now trades at $2.50 before bonuses.
3. Wall-E PS3 TIV 3.25, so that is no good either.
4. Beautiful Katamari trades at $6.75 before bonuses so that is a definite flip, however I have been trading that into GS for over a year now. I can't imagine there being many left.
5. Both Frontlines and Universe at War dropped about 30 cents making their ratio more along the lines of 1.4 or 1.3 but aside from those two everything else has held up nicely.

A few TIVs not on the master list

Beautiful Katamari 360 5.00 -> 10.13 (2.1)
Lego Indy Wii 7.50 -> 8.50 (1.13)

Sorry for being so haphazard here but I'm looking over receipts while I'm typing.

See, my 2 blockbusters have Animal Crossing at 29.99. :/

Went to a few Blockbusters in my area trying to find games for the Amazon trade-in deal and managed to pick up Okami and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Going to try some more stores tomorrow and hope I get lucky.

Checked the location closest to me and they had a piss poor selection. Couldn't even find two titles worth getting.

I did notice that they've put almost all of their strategy guides on clearance. Most were marked between $9 and $11.

My blockbuster in NY told me that this sale ends 7/5. Also said that on 7/5 they will be putting out more games for B1G1.

So i don't know if that means that new titles will make it into the $14.99 price or if they will turn over more of their rentals into buying items. Anyone know?

GS > BBV > Amazon flip is great. Each Cranium Kabooki ($10) at GS can average out to ($20 - $25) worth of credit at Amazon.

I pulled off ($20) GS into ($50) Amazon just now. Also getting the 50% coupon off any game or accessory on top of that! :applause:

I'm not finding very good flips to Amazon because of the need for a complete game.

it does not end 7/5. it ends on 7/13 and they might have a few more games for the b1g1 with the rental conversion which happens on 7/6.

So, that's when we can possibly expect more games in the stores for the promotion? Sooner? Later? YMMV?

You don't need the manual. Just the cover art, case, and game. Its ok to send them blockbuster cases.

For the cover art you can try printing it out on glossy paper. The scans on this site are great and already sized properly. Hopefully you have a good color printer. I've traded into blockbuster with a printed cover and it scanned fine. So im thinking it will be fine with amazon as well.

I'm just saying, its always YMMV. It'll depend on who's sorting your games, I bet you that they have a few employees, and just like GS employees handing out referb fees, these Amazon employees might accept your game depending on their discression.
