Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
You don't need the manual. Just the cover art, case, and game. Its ok to send them blockbuster cases.

For the cover art you can try printing it out on glossy paper. The scans on this site are great and already sized properly. Hopefully you have a good color printer. I've traded into blockbuster with a printed cover and it scanned fine. So im thinking it will be fine with amazon as well.

http://www.cdcovers.cc/
wow, if that's true, i would have bought more games from blockbuster
This, and the FNR4 promotion have sky-rocketed my store credit to unseen heights...I can't wait for my DSi, or DS-Lite, any suggestions?
Too bad you can't capitalize on the expired extra 75 off system amazon code. Coulda gotten a DSi and traded in Rhythm heaven (which was free with purchase) for 15 base 22.50 after bonuses :) made my DSi even cheaper.

Huh, its interesting, I just noticed that there were some BBV rental covers under the artwork, some of these games are from out of state. Never knew that BBV shipped out to other stores, I suppose it depends on which one is doing better in sales
Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, someone reported
was 19.99 when i had it scanned.

Also, I forget when TIVs change now, but I can confirm that Race Pro is still $19 as of 7/3. I freakin' traded in 6 of em cause I keep running out of BBV credit. I pray that target marks down some stuff so I can generate some BBV credit, but I guess I'm not holding my breath.

instead of finding a buy 1 get 1 free
I found a 4.99 sale on all last gen games.

I picked up MGS3: Subsistence (PS2) and Lego Star Wars II: Original Trilogy (GC)

either my bbv is behind or maybe this sale aint so national
Store to store transfers are happening constantly every week.
Well, I've seen some in-city, or nearby city, but this one is about...1500 mies away. I just cant see it going from one store to another making its way over here >_> Is Bond that unpopular XD
it does not end 7/5. it ends on 7/13 and they might have a few more games for the b1g1 with the rental conversion which happens on 7/6.
I'm guessing the conversion varies by store?

Could've been a shipment back to distribution and then sent out later.
I'm guessing the conversion varies by store?
Generally it's store by store inventory of zero renting product(I don't know the time frame they look at) and then overall product that all stores are doing(like bringing de blob down to 2 rentals per store, all extra converted to used). It's something like that, don't quote me =P

I had a pretty good haul today.

Samba do amigo
Gh aerosmith
universe at war x 2
Viking ps3,360
folklore x 2
Gta 4 x 2, 360
Qos x 2, 360
mario and sonic olympics x 2, wii
baja
iron man 360
wall-e wii
condemned 2 360

All at one store, and as I was leaving they were getting ready to put out more stuff. I'm going back in few days.

I've been to about 6 BBV stores and all I've seen is pure crap. Hopefully there will be some new stuff after the 6th, since so far this has been a bust for me. Btw, the BBV store locator for me is still not functioning.
Could've been a shipment back to distribution and then sent out later.
Ah yes, I forgot about that. I've recieved a few games at GS with reciepts in them from out of state too, probably the same thing. I was getting interested in how it happened, now the mystery is solved >_<

Also, anyone know the price of Disgaea 2 for the ps2? I saw a copy tagged at 24.99, wouldnt happen to be under 15 now would it?

I'm sorry...Probably wasn't me, but if it was and you were near Brunswick, I'm sorry for stealing the one and only copy of Folklore :p

Today I got:

Viking - $9.99 (360)
Free - Fear Files (360)

Top Spin 3 - $9.99 (360)
Free - Contra 4 (DS)

Spider-Man: Friend and Foe - $9.99 (360)

Spent less than $60 for 12 games.
PS3 Quantum of Solace is $19.99 and XBOX 360 QOS is $14.99
I actually saw 007 for 360 priced at $19.99 at one blockbuster, it was recently priced too. (I know because he hadn't put it on the shelf yet). So this may be a YMMV price in some places.

Hadn't put it on the shelf yet...that could literally mean a hundred different things. The most common of which is it hadn't been repriced yet or it came in some sort of transfer as the old 19.99 and again, hadn't been repriced.

14.99 is THE price for 360 bond in a corporate store.

I have had a good haul this week. Turned 350 into roughly 650 and I got a couple of things for myself.

MGS:TS (Complete) 2.50
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis 3.50
Fatal Frame II 5.00
Okami 5.00
De Blob 7.50

I now have a strong showing of credit at Gamestop and two sealed copies of Fight Night Round 4. I really lucked out tonight and found a copy of Folklore and two copies of Bioshock for the 360. I haven't had trouble finding Spider-Man or 007, it is the othe titles that are giving me problems for the Fight Night deal. Also be on the look out for Super Mario 64 for the DS. I saw it tagged at 14.99 and appearently it has a base of $10.

Super Mario 64 (DS) 7.50 -> 15.00 (2.00)

It seems like most managers will know about the deal, but somehow they didnt inform their employees? It happened two times today, cashier doesnt know whats happening, and the manager pops up and says "Oh, there's a B1G1 sale going on" Only one store out of the many I've been to actually has signs up, and they were made in Word or something, plain and without any type of info on end date, etc

We got one little flyer in at my work. I actually didn't check today(had tues-thurs off, a miracle!) because it was really busy(5-10 pm) but usually someone will either print out a lot or make their own and put them up around the place. The company is really crappy about getting effective advertising up just in our own store for a lot of offers. Though it's probably cheaper when they probably already lose money just by holding this sale(in a way) and it won't be going on long anyway. Not like the 3/20$ deal on movies, we have craploads of signs for that.

Had a pretty good haul today. Went to the next district over and it's amazing how completely different 2 corporate BBV stores just a few minutes away from each other can be.

Store 1:
-Price stickers for more than half of the games I rang up were incorrect (not a huge deal, pretty normal)
-Cashier had no idea about the sale, had to get manager to confirm it (it happens, the sale just started this week)
-Cashier refused to pair the games of the same value together for the best B1G1 combination, claimed the computer would take care of it (no... just no -_-)
-Manager angrily takes over the transaction, unhappily does the math by hand on a pen/paper (why not just re-ring the transaction up in order...?), ends up crediting the difference onto the transaction (still off by a dollar, sigh), rushes me out of the store in front of a line of customers (BBV experience = fail)

vs

Store 2:
-Was greeted upon entry by a store manager and told about the B1G1 deal about the games, then happily directed to the game section of the store (wow!)
-Upon seeing my stack of games, the same store manager offers to pair them based on price "so the computer won't cheat you!" (wowow!)
-The manager apologizes for taking an extra minute or two looking through the game stash for the game discs in best condition and with manuals (wowowow!)
-Left way, way happier than anyone should ever leave a Blockbuster

Night... and day. Hope everyone else comes across more stores like Store 2 :)
See, my 2 blockbusters have Animal Crossing at 29.99. :/
Every BBV I've been to (7 or 8) have 4 or 5 copies marked at 29.99.

Lol it sounds like you were at my store with two particular employees, csr/manager, helping you =P

found
:ps3: Bioshock and
:ps2:singstar rocks!
:ps3: Lego batman
:360: lost odyssey

Also found mass effect and mario and sonic at the olympics at another store but thinking if I should pick them up.

This sale was the first excuse I've had to walk into a BBV since the last one they had and what a horrible experience it was. Their video game sale section was a single 4' shelf, but I was able to scrounge Lost Odyssey and Ninja Gaiden 2 out of it. Unfortunately it wasn't until I got home that I popped open Lost Odyssey and saw that they only gave me disc 1. I drove back and proceeded to have an arguement with the manager because their computer said that it was only a single disc game, even though the case it comes in is designed to hold 4 discs and the disc has in huge print "Disc 1." In the end I had to return both because he couldn't find the other 3 discs in the back and wouldn't let me get NG2 alone with a discount at half price even though I wanted 2 games and it was they who sold me 1/4 of the other game I wanted. I would like to say I'll never shop there again, but I don't in the first place, so I guess they could care less how I feel about the experience.

That reminds me, I did notice one store that advertised a BBQ event, too bad its far away. I do hope that my store restocks or coverts rentals over this weekend, after doing somewhat well today, I'm itching to get back out there >_

Man, I really wish I could find a copy of Bioshock for the 360. Anyone want to part with theirs? I picked up the PS3 version if someone wanted to trade.

Anyways, I hit up some more Blockbusters today. Saw a lot more 007, Spiderman, and GTA. I'll probably give it one last go around on Monday.

Dark sector 360 is listed under the 6.99 price as well as the 9.99 price in the original post.

EDIT: Also remember seeing Project Sylpheed 360 at two different stores priced at 9.99
Yeah, sorry, I think it was there originally under $9.99 but someone said it was missing (and was $6.99) so I just added it in without checking. I saw other games Friday, too, that weren't on the list but frankly I'm too Blockbustered out to give a damn at this point ;).

I was able to go out with my list on Friday and got quite a few things though I was out of credit so it was all cash purchases which puts a damper on it for sure.

Anyway, I'm pretty much done with this sale after running to another 5 stores today. 2 of these stores were repeats from the first day and I was able to find some goodies thanks to the list (Hulk, Iron Man, Wall-E, etc). The first store had about HALF the amount of games they had when I was there on Tuesday. So they have really sold a ton of games - I was quite surprised.

So my totals thus far are:

For keeps:
:360:
Baja
Ninja Gaiden II
Universe At War

:wii:
My Sims Kingdom
We Ski
Worms Space Oddity

:ps3:
Bioshock
Mirror's Edge
Monster Madness Grave Danger

:ds:
Lego Indy
Ninja Town
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party

(funny how I ended up with exactly 3 for each system)

Unknown (either gifts, second copies for multiplayer, or possibly to GS later):
:ds: Lock's Quest
:ds: Viva Pinata

Sent in to Amazon for $60 in credit plus the 50% off coupon:
:360: Quantum of Solace
:360: Spiderman Web of Shadows
:wii: 2 x De Blob
:wii: Lego Batman
:wii: Okami

Traded to GS for a copy of FNR4:
:360: Quantum of Solace, :360: Spiderman Web of Shadows
(+ my own copy of :360: Bioshock which I got from BBV long ago)

Traded to GS using the tiered (40% bonus + Edge) promo:
31 miscellaneous games resulting in $367 in credit,

Still left to deal with:
10 more games to trade either to GS or Amazon

Total money spent:
$275 in BBV credit (including my original Bioshock purchase long ago), and $83 in cash (once I ran out of credit)

So, to summarize, I spent about $360 total and got 14 games to keep, a copy of FNR4 (which will probably be returned to GS for $59.99 in credit), $60 in Amazon credit (plus, hopefully, the 50% off coupon), $367 in GS credit, and 10 more games still to trade for roughly another $100 in credit. Not bad, not bad at all... If I wasn't travelling for work next week (and stuck without a car to run around with while there) I'd probably keep going but after one more GS trade this weekend I'll probably have to call it quits. There's still so much good stuff out there though - it will be painful to come back after my trip when this sale has ended and see things like Hulk and Iron Man still around (but with no B1G1 any more). Hopefully they'll extend the sale (problem is, the GS tiered promo ends the 12th).
I'm sorry...Probably wasn't me, but if it was and you were near Brunswick, I'm sorry for stealing the one and only copy of Folklore :p
Nah. I didn't drive down to Brunswick. I might though today if I have some free time. All the stores were in Cuyahoga County that I went to on the west side. Plus, I'm not after PS3 stuff - just :360:. Mainly just looking for Spider-Man: WoS to keep.
Went to a store by my brothers house and got Okami (Wii), Iron Man (360), and Mercenaries 2 (PS2) x 2. All for $20 + tax. When leaving they tell me since I spent more than $20 I get a random prize, so I get free Iron Man wall stickers. Then go to another store and while leaving they tell me free hot dogs for the 4th of July...God Bless America indeed.
The one I went to yesterday out near where my fiance lives had a popcorn machine it was sitting right behind the counter and they were giving away free popcorn. She loves popcorn.

I only ended up with De Blob Wii and Baja: Edge of Control Xbox 360 since they were the highest valued trade-ins for GS they had. They had a ton of Frontlines: Fuels of War and Bourne Xbox 360 but they didn't have anything else worth getting in each of their price ranges.

My main goal is to get to a couple of local Gamerush stores. I will probably be able to hit up one today and the other one tomorrow. Luckily, I'm about get a hold of some cash that is owed to me so I will be able to spend a little more than I originally hoped. Too bad I don't have any BB credit but it is cool.

I guess i did alright with this sale since i could only go to one blockbuster since my grandmother passed away this week:cry:

Spiderman web of shadows x 2
007 x 2
My sims party x 2 (little did i know it wasnt worth as much as i thought)

Frontlines
Universe at war
Eternal sonata
Mercs 2 (ps3)
We Ski
Think Fast

for a total of 78.xx or so

kept one copy of mysims party and Universe at war
ended up getting 2 copies of fight night (used a couple of target clearence games as well)
Blazblue limited edition...not too bad for one store i guess...i was hoping to find Iron Man and Hulk (360) for myself but didnt

Io, I really have to commend your oganization skills on calculating your gain down to the penny. I know I'm ahead with this latest round of fliipping, just not sure to the exact degree. For myself, this round of flipping between GS & BBV is not quite as lucrative as it was in the summer of 2008. I'm not sure we'll ever see anything like that again. My problem is my lack of faith in BBV as an ongoing entity, I see a Circuit City like ending for them very soon. So, I started this round of flipping with no BBV credit, because I didn't want to get stuck with hundreds in credit @ BBV when the grim reaper calls. So, I have actually had to pay cash to but stuff from BBV to flip to GS, on average and with the help of your conversion charts, I'm probablty making about 2.1x on my cash flipping back to GS. Not bad, but nothing like last year where only credit was being moved from one chain to the other. Also, the selection @ BBV to manipulate is not quite as good as last year IMO. Anyway, congrats on the productive past week or so.....

I traded in a Rock Band 2 (PS3), but cannot find the receipt to give the TIV - should/when I find it I'll update the post. TIVs are posted for reference only. Enjoy; if you need help doing the math for the bonus, use a calculator - unsure how to setup the basic equation? Assuming the bonus 40% trade in 6 or more + 10% edge it is 1.5*TiV; no edge? then 1.4*TiV.

Lol some of you guys are insane. My first time flipping ever, and I'm pretty damn happy with spending around 80 bucks for FN4, 2000~ points on goozex and 91 dollars in credit at GS. I don't trade back to bbv though, at my own store..it would just feel weird. Especially knowing that the games will probably never sell, lol. But using cash isn't that bad with a discount ontop of a deal like this.

Dang - went to another local NE Ohio store and they had jack squat. The store person I spoke to said that last Tuesday a guy bought about $160 worth in games with the deal, most likely to flip. Can't one of you fucking flippers leave one copy of :360: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows in NE Ohio for someone who wants to actually play the game for cheap?

Or add your total games and multply that value times .5 and then add the two numbers together. That's how i've done it my whole life :D

Wow, someone must have beaten me to the punch as well. Most I walked out of each BBV with was 1-2 games that were worthwhile.

Or you could just multiply by 1.5 and do it in one step. :)
