Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

a GS manager told me a B2G1 free will start this weekend. I don't know about that. I told him about the 16th but he still mentioned to look for one this weekend. I think i corrected him but he's too proud to admit. lol
Ok, just called BBV and resident evil umbrella chronicles which is now 17.99 used at GS has a trade in value of......$4.

The good news is Major league baseball 2k9 is $15(I asked twice to make sure) and it just dropped at GS to 17.99 used. Not many around here, but I'll try to get one today to confirm it's value.

Edit: The 360 version had a phone quote of 15 as well. It is 18.99 used (odd price) at GS. Just in case anyone asks, the ps3 one is still 34.99 used.
Very good work man. Thanks for finding this. I'll probably try trading it today also. The worst thing that could happen is that I have to return it to GS, which is no big deal.

Oh someone mentioned a possible Deadly Creatures GS to BBV flip. I called in about it and was told that BBV don't take it. Trivial Pursuit only gets around $4 or $6....can't remember which since it was too low for a flip.

FYI: Amazon gives $10 for Deadly Creatures
All I know is that the employee I talked to is one of the good ones and actually we talked about the whole flipping thing and he does it too and was planning on doing the Fight Night deal also (but now he cant). He said he got a notice (not sure if it was more local or national) but it said not to take any more returns on the FNR4 deal. I hope everyone else has luck returning the game (if you didn't have to show DL or use GS card I would think it would be a none issue)
I just returned a copy 30 minutes ago, the cashier didn't even bat an eye.

:D Was able to flip some games to gamestop, with no refurb fee even though some of them didnt come with the original cover art.

I can confirm that Deadly Creatures is not accepted as a trade-in. Bummer, as it seemed like a solid flip.

I have several other interesting tidbits. The manager of one local BBV claimed that value cards are no longer used by the company, to the extent that they are not even supposed to have them in stock. Totally fucked me over, as that BBV had the worst stock. I ended up buying a copy of QoS and Iron Man Wii. I was going to return the copy of Iron Man to another BBV for MX vs. ATV Unleashed or whatever. I asked for a price check, because it was marked as $19.99. The cashier claimed the price was accurate and that a NEW copy would be $14.99... o_O Not a good start to my day.

Lastly, I just noticed that MLB 2K9 Wii ($13) and 360 ($17.50) have nice Amazon trade-in values.

I went into a BBV and they had all the games I needed for the FNR4 trade in but wasn't advertising the sale, so I'd figure I would ask the cashier to ring them in to see if the sale was in effect and she refused to do it! She was such a bitch to me. So I left that store and went to another one. I got Iron Man and Viking, not to trade in but to keep. Not bad for $10 each and $5 each after the B1G1 price

Pretty common. When we had that super sale on new games a few months ago, most of the prices have not been changed since then and a lot of games still have the newer price cheaper than the used.(Of course, like no store will actually still have copies of the new games.)

That manager is a lying dirt bag. We still have the cards at my store. Quite a lot of them too. If you can't get a value card, get all your credit on a regular gift card. It all works the same. Value cards are the same as gift cards.
I had a value card in my hand! Dude said they no longer deal with them.
definitely lying. They just changed some of our internal policies regarding value cards, but not pertaining to a customer's use of them. The computer still asks if we want to put the credit on the account, or on a value card.

Employees can't trade in games and movies and have the balance transferred to a card, but everyone else can.
I had a value card in my hand! Dude said they no longer deal with them.
Yeah, he lied to you man. Around here, I have a handful of stores I trade into. All of them will put the value on an existing value card except one store. They always hit a bunch of random buttons on their computer to make it "beep" and say "oh, it won't let me put it on that card, it has to go onto the account!" So I say "okay." and then I tell them "Actually, I'd like to buy a gift card for [insert trade-in amount]" and they do it. See if that's an option for you at that particular location, I can't imagine they'd be allowed to tell you what you can and can't spend it on.

I had a bit of an issue with a value card yesterday. The knowlegable guy at the register tried for a good 5 min and it wouldn't let him put anything back on my card. So eventually he just got me a new gift card. So now I'm upgraded from Wall E to Transformers.
Anyone see some Rentals convert to Pre-played yet? I haven't seen anything new.
Even if it happens at one store, it might not happen at another.

Blockbuster has now sank to the GS TIV's I was just instore the other day and the TIV's for Prototype and FN 4 were $25 flat each

The only things worth flipping are Mat Hazard from BB and Wheelman which still gets $26 I believe

Race Pro held at $19 today (sorry if a repeat.)

Today I picked up all the following and traded to GS. First value is BBV price paid after b1g1 (but not including tax) and second is GS value with +50%:

Universe at War: Earth Assault (360): 3.50/6.75
Grand Theft Auto IV (360): $7.50/$21.00 (was tagged as $29.99, but rang up as $14.99)
Front Lines: Fuel of War (360): $3.50/$5.25
Guitar Hero Aerosmith (Wii): $3.50/$5.25
Samba De Amigo (Wii): $3.50/$4.87
WWW Smackdown vs Raw 2009 (PS2) $7.50/$13.13

Not sure if WWE 2009 PS2 was listed by anyone yet already, but that's a decent flip.

Lame. Apparently all the franchise stores do not participate in these kinds of sales. And guess what, all the stores near me are franchise.

fnkgrnfsalfnsafiosdrngio ):

Well, its not all bad, there have been a huge range for these stores to price their games, I've seen CAGs with franchise stores report newly released titles selling for 15 or 20 used. So keep an eye out for interesting prices
Any guesses on how much BBV might give for Madworld or Deadly Creatures?
Someone else confirmed that DC is not an accepted trade in. If its not listed and not in the last few pages, it probably hasnt had a quote yet, might wanna call ;)
Decent GS to BBV flips:
Wheelman $19.99 -> $25
Hawx $19.99 -> $25
I'm not questioning you, just curious where do you see them listed for $19.99? I'm not seeing that on the GS website.

That's the reported price they will be new tomorrow-only at Gamestop. Or maybe for a few days? The used price will be higher. CheapyD reported those prices.

EDIT: Is the trade-in value the same for both 360 and PS3 versions of those games? The $19.99 GS price is for both 360 and PS3.

Okay, thanks. I see where you're seeing it now.

Btw, I have to say kudos to my local GS stores. I picked up at a BBV copies of :360: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and Unreal Tournament III for $16 total and both copies were missing cover art and instructions. The local GS stores let me have the cover art and instructions without any hassle. Nice.
Does Blockbuster sell gift cards? What type of places?
At one point, they had restraunts like Applebees, as well as shops such as Macy's. Not sure if they still stock those, they were frequent around the time those Vanilla Visas were around.

Traded 3 copies of MLB 2k9 for the Wii for 15.
Traded in wheelman for ps3 for 25. Maybe I'll try to get it price adjusted later at GS when the new copies drop, but it will be a pain the ass.
Traded in so many copies of race pro and tenchu that I'm ashamed to say how many, but I'll just say that their TIVs held as of 7/7/09.

Someone meantioned many pages back that the 360 version trades for $22, but I haven't confirmed it. I was finding enough copies of the ps3 version. The $22 price doesn't make any sense though since BBV lowered the TIVs, the TIVs have been the same across all systems. Someone will check it tomorrow I'm sure or hawaiiboy will probably help us out again and look it up.
Someone else confirmed that DC is not an accepted trade in. If its not listed and not in the last few pages, it probably hasnt had a quote yet, might wanna call ;)
I'd call but they won't tell me values over the phone.
At one point, they had restraunts like Applebees, as well as shops such as Macy's. Not sure if they still stock those, they were frequent around the time those Vanilla Visas were around.
Thanks.
MLB 2K9 - $15 each or $15 total?

Is the sale still going on?! Happen to know when it stops? Another quick Q, since its used games and all is it just what they have in their inventory???

Yes, ends sometime around either 12th or 13th as reported by some CAGs and yes, it would vary on whats in stock in your local shops

well..I made another run on Friday..just now reporting in. I was away for 4 days camping for the 4th.

Anyways..made some nice pickups:

The Incredible Hulk(wii)
The Incredible Hulk (360)
IronMan(360)
Igor(Wii)
DeBlob (Wii)
Condemned 2 (360)

Traded in those 6 at gamestop and got about $60 store credit. Picked up 3 1600 pt cards with that.

And I bought and kept the following:

Sonic Chronicles (DS)
Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings (DS)
Viva Pinata Pocket Paradise (DS)
The World Ends With You (DS)
Patapon (PSP)
Battle of the Bands (Wii)
Samba De Amigo (Wii)
Spider-Man Web of Shadows (360)
Army of Two (360)
Mercenaries 2 (360)

Spent I believe between $90 and $100 for all purchases I made that day..including the 6 I traded in at Gamestop.

So both trips........I've gotten the following for around $150:

3 1600 Pt cards
Fight Night Round 4 (360)
Quantum of Solace (360)
Dragon Quest Swords (Wii)
DeBlob (Wii)
Sonic Chronicles (DS)
Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings (DS)
Viva Pinata Pocket Paradise (DS)
The World Ends With You (DS)
Patapon (PSP)
Battle of the Bands (Wii)
Samba De Amigo (Wii)
Spider-Man Web of Shadows (360)
Army of Two (360)
Mercenaries 2 (360)

Quite pleased.

:)

I picked up 8 games at the Euclid Ave location in Lexington KY.

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (DS)
Ninja Gaiden 2
Condemned 2
Top Spin 2
Spider-man: Friend or Foe
Universe at War
Fracture
Quake Wars

total was $43. Not bad. I also checked out the Saron Dr location only to find crap.

What are good flips from GS to BBV? Mine has alot of store gift cards and various other stuff I want to transfer my credit for. I've come up with this so far

Wheelman $19.99 (starting tomorrow) > $25
Tenchu Shadow Assassins $17.99 > $15
Race Pro $19.99 > $19
Cranium Kabookii $12.99 > $16

I don't mind even 1:1 flips

Stopped by a few blockbusters to see if they had gotten anything new and I picked up for the 360:

- Mass Effect
- Lost Odyssey
- Crackdown
- Forza 2

Spent $25+tax for them. I asked for the manuals/covers for Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey but they didn't have them since they had gotten the games from a different store. They were nice enough to give me a few green cases though.

15 each. With the Wii coupon you make a couple bucks flipping it.

Edit: Oh wait, nevermind, I just looked over my receipts from the day. Looks like I went to three gamestops and bought 3 $17.99 games and then I went to 3 Blockbusters and traded them each in for $5 a piece.

A small loss to move some credit back.

You're right, I got it confused with Race Pro.

$38 + tax ---> $15 would be more than a small loss, ouch...

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from
