Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Wait... was fallout 3 dropped to 14.99? Hell I'll buy it even if the b1g1 is done.
Heh...the junior detective story cracked me up. If only there were such diligent and vigilant cufflinks to harass true hoarders, and not just the flippers....

Ah well, to the point of my post. I thought for sure hoarders and flippers would've raped and pillaged the BBVs near me, and for the most part they did, but I came away with two rather sweet gems. On top of the Fracture, Viking, Quantam of Solace and Web of Shadows I picked up, I manage to snag two copies of Fallout 3! Ah, nothing beats picking up one of the best games of last year for a measley $7 bones each!
He had actually just gotten done putting out a fat stack of fliers advertising it on the counter.

This reeks of mis-tag or franchise location.

Fallout is definitely not 15 at my store. Ps3 is 30 360 is 40 or 45. Possible it could've dropped over the weekend, I didn't do the repricing, but I know for a fact it didn't go to 14.99 here..and we're corporate.

Well, I had expected to make a run Monday to a few BBVs and GSs to get GHWT and a few stragglers on the last day of the sale (while picking up various things at GS to keep the credit flowing). After visiting my local Hollywood Video that all changed. I did end up going to two BBVs (my local one and one more later on) and did, in fact, get 2 Wii GHWT plus PS3 GTA IV and PS3 Quantum of Solace. Of course, I felt like I overpaid for that GTA IV after going to Hollywood ;). Still, though, I am back to using credit at BBV while I had to use cash at HWV (after burning through my $80 in credit at just 2 of 4 stores I went to).

Funny, though, just yesterday I was struggling to find things for one more Amazon trade-in (that would be a backup for the 50% off coupon in case they never get my first submission - DC shows it got delivered today but no credit yet). So the run to get GHWT was mostly for that but it all sort of became moot after hitting up my local HWV. Still, though, it is tougher to find complete stuff there which Amazon wants (at least original case/cover art - manual seems to be YMMV).

Anyway, each of the 2 BBVs I went to had at least one Wii GHWT and 2 GH On Tour Decades (and the second one had 4 of these). GH On Tour Decades is not a good flip for anywhere but since I didn't have it yet I was glad to get one in any case.

While there isn't much left to get from this sale except for a few stragglers (a Quantum of Solace or Bourne Conspiracy here or there) it would be nice if it is extended in case they price drop more stuff.

Funny thing happened at the second BBV I went to - one that was way far from home for me (but happened to be near a HWV). I actually got the hard-sell on preorders. It was like I went to GS instead . I was buying the GHWT for the Wii and the guy tried to push a GH5 preorder on me. First of all, GH5? Seriously? And secondly, with the way these games have been dropping like rocks soon after release no way am I buying another at full price (RB Beatles excepted and I hope to get that at 50% off from Amazon anyway). I'm still burning from the $190 I paid for the GHWT bundle when it first came out (and I barely played it).
There is a limit, enforcing it is up to the employee since I'm 99% sure the computer doesn't care.
ive never heard of that unless its specifically stated.

I had a similar issue at one of the Fremont, CA stores. The dumpy manager wouldn't let me buy more than one copy of a title. I also asked her if they really wanted to sell these and she said it's the rule...uggh. As it turns out, some of the copies were scratched and I ended up with one copy of each anyways maybe minus one extra GTAIV PS3.
Vacationing here in NJ shore, got Lego Batman + Virtua Tennis 3 for $14.99, both for 360.
Did you buy these today? The sale was scheduled to end yesterday, so we're trying to get confirmation on if it was extended.
Just got off the phone with three of my local bbv's, they all said the sale is now over. Maybe some of you will get lucky and have stores keep the sale going.
I wouldn't take the word of the average BBV employee.... last time they had the sale, it got extended (as reported here) and none of the employees were aware. I even had to convince one employee to just ring up two games I wanted to see, and sure enough, it worked.

So, the true test will be actually attempting to buy a couple games (or a report from our knowledgeable BBV employees who frequent here).

signs were still up but there was nothing worth getting at one store. second store got a condom of solace ps3 and ghwt for 16. the cashier said the deal was dead but signs were up so he credited me 14.99

I stopped by my local Gamerush yesterday, and they still had the little B1G1 section sitting there. Didn't see the copy of Flatout I wanted there, though.

Why even worry at 3am when you shouldnt be able to even trade in until stores do open, which would entail the phones to able to be avaliable ;)
It is over. It does not ring up automatically anymore. :whistle2:(
I hit two stores in Arlington, VA last night, and both still had displays up advertising the B1G1. I found a couple flip titles at each. It did not automatically ring up in the computer, but the employees at both stores were confident the deal was still on. They manually entered 9.99 credits into the system.

I have a feeling Blockbuster corporate decided to extend the deal but forgot to change the end date in their computers. Could be wrong though, it may be over...

Yes to the BBV account thing. And call the store for the TIV.

it is definitely over. Those stores just take down the signs but had to honor the deal since they still had them up.
bump, any good flips with the b2g1 at gamestop this week?
I'm usually an optimist but it is hard for me to believe that there are going to be 3 games with the same price that can be turned into BBV for a profit. Hopefully some people can find something but even if they do, what are you going to do with the credit?

Lol no joke. I work at BBV and the only thing I would do is use it on the chips/soda I get on my meals every now and then.

Have fun with that.... knowing BBV, then won't get it in until the Friday of the week its released.

If you have credit you could always buy movies or DVDs you would otherwise pay cash for.

Like BB has the new Transformer and G.I. Joe sets so you could get those.
nah, i remember i got halo 3 on release day from them. i think they get the big name titles on day one.
Ok couple things wrong here
1: Halo 3 was a MASSIVELY MASSIVE title. CoD may fit the bill as well, but 95% of the games we pre-sell are no Halo.(and this was how long ago?)
2: I've had multiple games that people have pre-ordered from our store, never come in. Fellow employee put godfather II for ps3 on pre-order? The company didn't get it. Another one put I think wii aerosmith bundle(one of the GH bundles) on pre-order? Yup, never got it. There are others but since I never push presells, or even talk about them, I don't know most customer's stories.
3: Getting games on friday is VERY normal and for awhile, nearly every rental and retail copy was delayed till friday regardless of release date. I couldn't say the same now, because I haven't even seen my store get a retail copy of a game in months.
