Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
BTW, is Bukkake still trading in at $16? Converse just reminded me that I picked up one during the B2G1 sale and still have it.
Are you sure about that? I thought that kinda thing normally costs more.
It's true that if you don't take them, someone else will, I found that out with the Hollywood Video sale, I was there the first day, and could have taken everything if I wanted to, well I go back the next day and everything that was any good was gone. next time I am going to get most of the good stuff, and sell it to CAG people for what I got it for, its not like I would make a million dollars selling it on ebay or CL anyway
That's exactly why I hoard. I honestly take as many as I can so that FW or SD people won't greed it all up. I basically trade to other CAGs for whatever and if I can't find any takers it's off to goozex or the 'bay.

One form of hoarding that drives me nuts, similar to the HWV sale recently, is when employees buy up everything before the store even opens. Some franchises have rules against that while others don't. I know if my flipping efforts lately I've heard countless stories of gaming store employees showing up and cleaning out a place before the general public even gets a shot. That's the type of thing that causes me to lose any sort of loyalty to a franchise, I'll just clean up on what I can and not go back to HWV for anything else unless it's a great deal.
Yes, severely underpaid employees taking advantage of one of the few perks to working in such a crappy place where they have to spend hours a day whether they like it or not is FAR worse than someone who drives to one and spends five minutes cleaning it out with no intent of ever stepping foot in one again. Only to toss it on the bay or cross the street and trade it all in to GS. In case you haven't noticed I'm rolling my eyes at this one. Anyone who's not buying it to play or to give it to a friend to play is a scumbag who just validates it by pretending they beat some other scumbag to it.

It was $9.99 at GS before the promo.

No, they don't relegate the good flicks to good deals right off the start. :\

I did see that a BBV by me ((Standale) GR, MI) was doing 5/20. I looked through a some movies, and they had a few that caught my eye.
Anyone see any good films they had for 3 for $20?
Whatever is over like a month old is on sale for 14.99 or less, so anything really.
Anyone see any good films they had for 3 for $20?
I've seen a lot of TV on DVD sets priced at $15. Picked up Season 1 of Carnivale. They had some recent 24 seasons, The Unit... Some prices might be YMMV: saw Season 2 of Heroes for $14.99 at one store and $16.99 (I think) at another.
Whatever is over like a month old is on sale for 14.99 or less, so anything really.
Are you saying that it's the $14.99 or less movies that are eligible for the 3 for $20? Is the 3 for $20 the best deal they ever do on movies or do they do better? I assume the 5 for $20 is on lower priced films than the 3 for $20 is.

3/20 on 14.99 and under, 4/20 on 9.99 and under. The 5/20, I'm assuming, is on 9.99 movies(unless they make signs like we do, and advertise 3.99 movies as 5/20 =P). Other than that, I've never seen a 5/20 in my store.

Both deals used to fluctuate, 3/20 would drop to 2/20 and 4/20 to 3/20. Lately though, the 4/20 has been constant for 9.99 movies and only the higher prices movies fluctuate between their two respective sale prices.
5/20 is not a deal, as it's for the $3.99 dvds. It's only a deal for customers with absolutely no basic math skills.
If you get a free rental like someone said, the 5 extra cents is totally worth it.

Whoops should have been a little more clear... The store that I seen the 5/$20 at was on DVDs $9.99 or under. The CSR was saying how that they usually do them 4/$20, but were running a special this weekend at 5/$20 + a free rental.

This was at a GR, MI BBV.
5/20 is not a deal, as it's for the $3.99 dvds. It's only a deal for customers with absolutely no basic math skills.
....That's the point. It's just advertising. That, was, my point that they don't have any math skills.

Interesting. So potential savings per deal if you maximize original cost:

$14.99 - 3/20 = $6.66 per DVD (55.6% savings)
$9.99 - 4/20 = $5 per DVD (50%)
The Rare $9.99 - 5/20 = $4 per DVD (60%)

Strangely, the Blockbuster I went to in San Antonio this afternoon had a full stock of disc-only games. It wasn't like the last disc-only sale though, these games were in sleeves in hard plastic cases, not the clear plastic ones with UPC stickers. Plus, the prices were all different. However, many of the games were the usual suspects of cheap used games (Dark Sector, GH:A, GH III, Frontlines, etc.). Some of the prices were pretty decent (Boom Blox for $6.99) but since the games didn't even come with real cases I didn't want to bother. Game prices seemed to range from $4.99 to $9.99. Boom Blox seemed to be the best one of the bunch though, so don't get too excited. I don't know if my Blockbuster was just really really behind on the disc-only game sale a few months back or this is a new thing. I'll have to scope out another Blockbuster sometime this week to be sure.

B1G1 sale (14.99 under) starts the 3rd. Don't know how long it will be going on for.

Edit - And by god. If someone asks for confirmation, I will chop off your fingers. I read it in a communications update and even had my store manager confirm. If I'm wrong, I'll chop off my own fingers.

Don't worry about it io ;).

Anyway... B1G1 sale on games $14.99 and under starts the 3rd. A ton of games dropped in price the past 2 weeks. I've repriced at least 60 games in the past 2 weeks. I'll have the scans of the last 2 weeks up tomorrow.

And don't any of you dare ask for confirmation. I read it in a communications update so I know this is going to happen.

There's also a 5 for $20 (any movie $9.99 and under) movie sale starting the 3rd.

Thanks - I haven't even stepped foot in a BBV in about 3 weeks so I'm definitely interested in what has dropped. I haven't even thought about trading there recently as I've gone almost exclusively to the Amazon trade-in program. But if there's some decent new B1G1 stuff I'll definitely want to snag me some more BBV credit. I think I might have $20 or so left .
Thanks - I haven't even stepped foot in a BBV in about 3 weeks
Man, I wish I could say that. Would absolutely make me happier =)

The third huh? I don't work that day, guess I'll go in early and see what I can nab. Wish I had a laptop or just any good internet device so I could fiddle with amazon and check values while I'm at the store, just submit the trade-in right there. No cell phone, psp does detect a wireless signal but it has security on it.

Even if there isn't a new promotion and I only get like 1.2-1.4x what I pay in cash for the games, that works for me. Saves me money on things I'm buying from amazon anyway, which can be pretty much whatever you want.

Thanks DarkRider. I just jizzed in my pants.

I stopped by BBV today and checked my value card. I only have $31.xx in credit. I did manage to get MK vs DC Universe, MGS4, SW Force Unleashed, and SFIV guides for $.01 each. I think the only one they didn't have was Smash Bros. Remember to keep a look out for these during your travels.

Thanks for the info DarkRider, I was just there looking at games tonight. My local store is still picked over from the last sale, but I'll have to check the other store down the road now. Although it won't be included in the B1G1, I did see a used copy of Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) for $25.

Haha. That's pretty funny :). All Blu Rays are priced at $16.99. I've never seen them any lower than that.
If they would just do 2 for $20 for blu rays it would be a nice small improvement. If they did 4 for $20 my head would explode.
2 for $20 wouldn't be bad. I wouldn't be surprised if they made them 3 for $25 though. That's how BBV usually does these previewed movie sales. Never lower the price, but instead, offer more movies.

Funny, late last night I stopped by a BB/GR to see if there were any guides there and I looked at the used games just to see what may be available if there was a B1G1 in the near future. Some goodies at that store as alot of of stuff I was hoping would drop for the last sale have now dropped. One drop to 14.99 is DS CoD World at War. Oh and pics or it didn't happen!;) No really, thanks for the heads up as always.

I'm almost as excited, I guess I would be just as excited if I had some store credit, but I used the last of it during the last sale. Insert obligatory does anyone know of any decent flips question here.

I thought it was a hassle to get penny guides at BBV. Was it for you? I'll have to try and get the MGS4 guide I saw (forgot it was a pennied guide when I was there or I woulda tried) when I go back for the sale.

Also that store had a table full of TV show DVDs. Stuff like Heroes, My Name is Earl, Queer as(s) Folk, Lost etc. Some were priced pretty well at 15 others seemed a little high around 25.

I'll stop in on my way to the gym later to check 14.99 and under games, ill post what I find unless already posted. I'll also ask about a few trade values if anyone has a game in mind.

Thanks for the info, Darkrider. I think I have about $45 left in trade in credit at bbv as I too have gone exclusively to Amazon. Managed to keep a small amount of credit at BBV, GS, and gamecrazy in case any big sales come along.

I think I got really lucky. When I was buying the guides, I tried to act as friendly as I could even though I was ready to pass out from exhaustion at the time. Then I asked to check my giftcard before he scanned the guides (acting like I was going to pay the $10 a piece) and then I acted sort of suprised when the guides rang up so cheap (I don't think he bought it at all, lol). I only brought up one of each guide. I think I just ran into a nice employee. I walked around the store a while to make sure I got rung up by the young dude who looked like a gamer instead of the older woman who I thought would turn me down for the guides. I've never been to this BBV before either so I didn't know anyone. I'm very excited about the MGS4 guide tho because that one should come in handy.:)

Sorry if this has already been done but I didn't see anything in the OP or the last couple of pages: Has anyone made a list of games that are $15 and under?

I missed out on the opportunity to flip during the last B1G1, so I'm definitely going to get in on this B1G1 opportunity. I'd like to build up enough GS credit to buy a PS3 (have about $100 right now). If anyone knows of any good GS to BBV flips, I'd greatly appreciate it. I know there should be a lot of good BBV to GS flips, so I can do that research myself. At any rate, thanks for the advance intel on the B1G1 sale, and thanks in advance to anyone who provides some decent flips from GS to BBV (at least 1:1).
