Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

@io

about crack in time, i should point out that i'm in hawaii where prices are sometimes different than u.s. prices. make sure that you check out your local bbv price that game. i guess i assumed it was $25 everywhere since most of the other prices have been the same for hawaii and north america, sorry about that. all hawaii blockbusters may be franchise (not 100% sure).

I went to 3 different Blockbusters to pick up some stuff to send to Dealtree. I was able to find some Wii games worth flipping. 3 copies Toy Story Mania, 2 copies Beatles Rock Band, and 3 copies Cars Race O Rama. I also found a complete Yakuza 2 for $9.99 and and a Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction, also $9.99. I'm positive those weren't there during the B1G1 sale a few weeks ago.

Well, I was going to make a new thread when the B1G1 ended but was just too busy dealing with all my games from that sale to get around to it. But I don't understand this comment. If I make a new thread all the info will be gone and there will nothing to search for!
Well in the OP i believe games are listed until till 14.99.

I saw a game yesterday marked 24.99 and I was wondering if it had dropped to 19.99 because i thought i had seen that price previously (wanted to pair with Radiant Dawn) and i did a search in this thread but got TOO MANY results.
^CAG is referring to the original post that alerted us to the B1G1 50% off which also said the B1G1 $14.99 and under was coming back. I personally don't think we will see it for a while, but I thought it was posted to happen after the current sale.
Yea he said around June 4th there'd be a b1g1 under 14.99

Holy heck! Well, I'll make sure to keep tabs on those if I go to some stores later today. I got about 3 PS3 copies last week with B1G1 50% off - d'oh!
Yea he said around June 4th there'd be a b1g1 under 14.99
Considering that the current sale runs through the 7th or 9th (I forget), this ain't happening. I don't know why everyone thinks this - the info has not come from a BBV insider like hawaiiboy. Right, Hawaiiboy - as far as you know there are no plans for B1G1 returning? I think the B1G1 rumor was based on when it was last year but that's out the window with this new sale going on.

correct there are no plans that i know of for a b1g1. i would highly doubt it with the current sale going til jun 7 but then again this is bbv so you never know.

Actually, if you back and read TheAnomaly's post, that's not what he said. He said the b1g1 starts after this current sale and runs until early July. He was right when he gave us a heads up on May 15 that the current sale would start on the 18th (even though he got some of the details wrong), so I'm holding out hope that he's right about the b1g1 returning.
Blockbuster is trying out a new game sale. B1G1 games $30+.

I don't remember the exact dates off hand, but I know it's supposed to start 5/18, run til sometime in June. Then the $14.99 and under starts and runs til early July.
Wouldn't you know it, a couple of stores switched over a bunch of Beatles RB (Wii and PS3) as well as Cars RoR (Wii) for sale today.

At least I came across a few more TSM. They were missing the manuals but the discs look mint, like they were never used. Luckily I kept the manuals from the copies I used towards the GS promo.
Beatles RB only gets $11 and $13 for Wii & PS3. What am I missing?
A bunch of prices adjusted today. Some went down, some actually went up :) like Toy Story Mania and Super Monkey Ball (shockingly enough)
Beatles RB only gets $11 and $13 for Wii & PS3. What am I missing?
Exactly.

They were getting $20 as of a couple days ago and I have several pending/locked at that. I'm just glad I did a quick check before picking them up.

The TIV update from last night really threw everything for a loop.
A bunch of prices adjusted today. Some went down, some actually went up :) like Toy Story Mania and Super Monkey Ball (shockingly enough)
The increase was the biggest surprise.

It seems like they subsidized the values on a few games by lowering the value on a bunch of other games

Since i figured they were getting flooded with SMB (kind of like what happened with LBP), I locked in and mailed out my copies right away. Oh well, at least I paid for them with the GC i got from my LBP trade and also used up a couple of RZ certs.

I just submitted 2 Super Monkeys after seeing it went up thanks to you guys! Do I have to print the shipping label for eztradein right after submitting or is there a way to print it out later? Edit: I see they sent an email with a link to print the shipping label there too it looks like. It's weird though, they sent 2 emails, 1 for each monkey game even though I submitted it as two for quantity and the shipping label in each email looks the same wth... Don't know whether to ship them together or not.
Oh now your previous post makes even more sense, I see. Damnit so I missed out on Beatles by 1 day!
Well they'll be worth another look if the B1G1 comes true

If you submit 11 games you get, you guessed it, 11 emails. It just confirms every copy. You mail them in one box together and then put the shipping manifest in the package, then use the provided label. The shipping label looks the same because it is :)

Let's keep the Best Buy/Dealtree trade-in talk out of this thread, please. If you have questions about it, post them in the thread for that deal.

We'll see... The details were certainly wrong - it was not a B1G1 on $30+ games. If the regular B1G1 returns right on the heels of the B1G1 50% off deal on June 8th, then he'll get credit ;). But I wasn't even really referring to that post. Other people had said there was a B1G1 last year in June/July and assumed that meant there would be another this year. That's what I was talking about - I had completely forgotten TheAnomaly's post or just set it aside in my mind since it wasn't a B1G1 $30+ sale that happened...

In any case, I went to a store that was CHOCK full of awesome games. I had hit this one up twice during the B1G1 and it was a goldmine then. They had tons more of the formerly good B1G1 games - including many more copies than I had seen before. They had clearly been restocked to the gills which is just odd. In any case, I was able to get Wii and PS3 Beatles RB and 2 x TSM. If only I could have gotten to this store when the glitch was ongoing. The only problem is that the manager of this store is pretty sharp (she used to manage my rinky-dink local store but they promoted her) so she probably would have looked into it and had it corrected pretty quickly with the "system reset" (as even the guy at my local store did that).

But if there is another B1G1 I know where I'm going day 1 ;). My son is still begging me for a PS3 copy of Avatar and this is one of the few stores that I've seen with it. It is still $19.99 and I was sorely tempted to get that with God of War Collection for $30 total with the current deal, but that is still a bit too high. I'm hoping those both drop to $14.99 by the B1G1...

Oh yeah, this was my first store credit purchase in several months! I had traded 2 copies of SMG 2 (my cheap Amazon ECA + $20 coupon one and my GS $20 coupon one) to get myself $80 on an old empty Value card I had sitting in a drawer. Of course, I blew over half of that already today, but considering the potential return on what I got that's cool.

Oh, I think he gets a lot of credit. Had he not mentioned that sale early, none of us would have gone to check on it day one and been able to take advantage of the early bird glitch.

OK, I found more of the history - see below. While I believe that TheAnomaly read this comm and it was probably as he said, it was clearly early info and they changed their minds about the sale. So any info on the follow-on sale (return of regular B1G1) is even more out of date. It could happen, but is no sure thing. I'd actually prefer it come a little later in the summer when there have been a few more conversions and price drops.
It was in a document from my DM, and I'm pretty sure it came from someone above him since nothing was misspelled.

Other highlights include preorders for Twilight: Eclipse starting in September. Shoot me now.

from what i was able to discern from our horribly put together box office (communication tool) there is going to be a b1 g1 50% off sale. i dont know much else since the info is so poorly put together. it looks like it might start tomorrow. it doesnt say if all games will be part of the sale (i'm assuming it will be) but i dunno.

i definitely know its NOT going to be a b1g1 with different price points though. i should know more tomorrow. there are supposed to be endcaps with the signage but i just dont know when this is going to start. calling stores wont do any good since i can pretty much guarantee nobody is going to know about this if it starts tomorrow.
See, hawaiiboy nailed it (albeit just the night before and TheAnomaly's info at least gave us a few more days as a head's up that something was coming). But I'd say it is hawaiiboy's more concrete info that got people out to the stores that day ;). Of course, I welcome any advance info TheAnomaly is able to provide, too, in the future!
