Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Wow, I suppose if I wanted to build up a little BBV credit from my Amazon credit I could bring my copy in there and then just use the $20 credit I'm supposed to get from Amazon to buy another one from Amazon to play...

i was thinking of doing that too. it would only take a couple copies and i would have more bbv credit than i've had in a long time.

Interesting - are they offering a lot for this because of their inability to order them from Nintendo? I mean, paying $40 in store credit for presumably mint copies is not a bad deal for them. They probably pay, what, $44 or so for new ones, right?

If only the Amazon deal wasn't "one per household", as it is still available (I thought it would only be for preorders). But I could do the one copy in any case...

What do you think the point of that is? Are you instructed to convert a trade-in into a rental if you actually get one? The most they would sell these for is $44.99 right?

Possible Flip Opportunity: SMG2 is $39.99 used online, and it says it includes a $20 credit when your order ships(before you doubt this, I ordered Creed II PS3 used and got my $10 credit last week). Also assuming it is $44.99 in stores that's about a 1:1 ish flip. Or using CAG16 plus EDGE online when it's in stock works wonders as well.

i dont know. there was no directive on what we should do if we get a trade so i would just put it out for sale. there is nothing promoting this high TIV so i dont know what they are doing. i should have looked at the used price but yeah $44.99 sounds right.

Bah, I would consider doing this if Amazon would come through with my $20 credit :bomb:. It seems like are giving them to everyone else already...

Looks like Bbv is going to start some kind of tiered trading in the coming weeks. No other info yet as we are awaiting the program guide but something to keep an eye on I suppose. Typical blockbuster a day late and a dollar short.
Apparently i didn't know you cant return games.
You can return defective games.

I meant for games in general. I did it at one BBV store but this one almost didn't let me.

Why would anyone want to go through the trouble of buying a game just to return it for the same amount of money\credit you spent on it?:whistle2:s
im hoping for a price drop on gow 3 to 14.99 this week :) lol that would be awesome
I'm just hoping that BBV decides to give away all their used games this week for free. That would be awesome!

LMAO. These wishes are equally realistic

Not sure if it will last more then this week but the another new flip from GS to BBV this week is Lego Indy 2 for the Wii(it's 19.99 new at GS and 17.99 used online only according to the website). It gets 12 on 360, 15 for PS3 and 17 for the Wii version(these are all phone quotes).

Since it had a universal price drop recently, it might not hold after the next tiv value changing.

Crap, I'm just more pissed that I paid about $23 for it (used) from GS used just a few weeks ago. It seemed to be getting scarce for PS3 so I wanted to snag one with all those coupon deals. :bomb:

So, has anyone actually tried trading a SMG2 yet?

Most every blockbuster I've been to around here seems to just have games 50% off. I picked up a copy of Oblivion GOTY edition and Bayonetta for $32 with tax. Still yet to see any of these Toy Story Manias yet, suppose I missed my chance.

Traded it at 2 different Blockbusters. $40 indeed. Got a few DS KH's, Toy Story Mania's and Wii Beatles Rock Bands. I asked before hand, and she checked, $40. Been using the GS coupon to get a bonus 50% and pick up more SMG2's. Also another note, my first order was rang up incorrectly. She rang up one game, then the barcode, which took off 50%, then 2 more games, the barcode again, which took off 50% off one. She rang it thru, then I told her that she only rang up 3. I was already happy that SMG2 was getting $40. She rang up the game she missed, and the barcode again, which took off 50%. She was glad I was honest. So I actually got B1G1 free, and B1G1 50% off (1st order 3 x $15 games, 2 x $7.50 discount) (2nd order $15 game, $7.50 discount). Maybe the coupon does work after one game, or this store didn't do the reboot.

Wow, with as much time as I spend on this site you'd think I'd know what you are talking about. What is "GS coupon to get a bonus 50%"? I'll look for it but I can't believe I missed it (unless it is a game-specific trade-in deal as I tend to ignore those).

I'm not sure exactly how that works in his case but this week's GS coupon is +50% trade in bonus when buying SMG2. Did it turning in NSMB for $40 even ($25 base +50% coupon + 10% Edge).

That is the correct coupon. This week's GS coupon. Limit of 3 games, get 50% bonus TIC towards SMG2. With Edge, 60%.

I'm about to head out withing the hour and was hoping someone could give me a recommendation of something to buy with Toy Story mania. The only store that has it has only one copy so if anyone could help, that'd be great.

Kung-fu Panda?

I checked two BBV stores tonight while I was out grabbing copies of Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll from BB to trade in for $20 apiece.

Neither had mismarked any copies of God Of War III to $29.99:cry: and the only games I would buy with this sale are more copies of TSM and only if the sale was ringing up as a BOGO.
man i havent been to BBV forever but thanks for the heads up guys.

is there a TIV above $17 for Toy Story Mania that I'm completely overlooking?
A very reliable and easy to use trading site called gazelle.com is giving $20 cash or $22 amazon credit per copy.

thanks. Gazelle is my go to trading site. I just somehow must have hit the wrong button and got a lower value.

Yay, I finally have some BBV credit again. It may be too little too late, but we'll see. I traded my original SMG 2 (bought from Amazon with ECA discount + $20 future game credit) for $40 since I went to GS and traded a NSMB + Toy Story Mania for just over $60 (using the weekly coupon) to get another SMG 2. Good stuff ;).

My local store actually had a sign way up in the back where they hide the games now advertizing the B1G1 50% off sale. This is the first sign I've seen of any sort for this sale. Too bad they didn't have anything worth getting... I feel like I need to spend this $40 on some TSM/Beatles RB PS3 at least before I can't find them any more otherwise it was a waste (turning a perfectly good SMG 2 into $40 of relatively useless credit that is).

Anyway, I think that was my first trade since FairyTale Fights in January.

i know a lot of people mentiion RB beatles ans TSM...you guys would have a field day here in so cal...i've found 4 RBB and 4 TSM at only 2 stores and there's still 4 others in the area...didin't grab them though (no cash)

So when is that B1G1 Free (14.99 and under) supposed to start? I remember someone mentioned it earlier in the thread but I can't find it. I'll make a crazed run on BBVs that day :) even though my friend got a few TSMs already lol

I've been to 4 Blockbusters in LA over the last couple weeks and none of them had any TSM or BRB. You should pick those up for some easy flipping.

So did anyone rent UFC 2010 from BBV. I'm really curious about what will happen for those folks wanting to play online, apparently a code in the packaging is required to play online (single use of course). I advise you all to ask for the manual when renting the game, but it will be tough shit for renter # 2, maybe a reason to argue for a rental refund (after you play single player of course)

theres no point in renting it for 8 bucks then paying 5 to play online. it will be 13 bucks with a 10 coupon on gamestop next week im sure :)

i checked out a couple of bbv locations today but i only found 1 toy story mania that had coffee all over it and passed.

i did manage to score (all w/ manuals and original cases):
ratchet and clank: crack in time ps3 $24.99
tiger woods 10 wii $19.99
and 2 copies of mario and sonic winter olympics wii $19.99 each
total: $65

i'm trading in the wii games to amazon:
tiger woods 10 wii (tiv $21)
2 copies ofmario and sonic winter olympics wii (tiv 20 each)

so i basically scored crack in time (manual and case in near mint condition) for $4. another great blockbuster deal. keep it coming blockbuster!

You missed out on that one buddy. It ended last month. When the b1g1 50% off started, it ended up as b1g1, but its long since been fixed.

^CAG is referring to the original post that alerted us to the B1G1 50% off which also said the B1G1 $14.99 and under was coming back. I personally don't think we will see it for a while, but I thought it was posted to happen after the current sale.

Just bought SMG2 from GS.com and I am planning on purchasing some of those Lego Indy 2's for the Wii after I trade in BFBC2 for $36.80(50% extra Memorial Day Sale in regional areas). I'd love to get that Crack in Time for $12.50 after the B1G150 Off.

I agree with the comment above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Anyway, I just bought Brutal Legend + Where the wild things are (easy platinum!) for $15 + tax total in Des Moines, WA.

Other blockbusters around Kent, WA dont know about this promo. Shame on them!

I like looking through 216 pages to find stuff, it's like remember the times! Oh look at that, there was a 50% glitch! There was a B1G1! Rogue Warrior used to trade for how much!

I think there have been some unreported price drops. M&S Winter was $24.99 when I got it during the glitch the beginning of last week - my total was $12.50 on 3 copies. And I'm pretty sure R&C was $29.99 but I passed on it since I already got my plat on it and sold it long ago.

it's almost impossible to even search through this thread.
Well, I was going to make a new thread when the B1G1 ended but was just too busy dealing with all my games from that sale to get around to it. But I don't understand this comment. If I make a new thread all the info will be gone and there will nothing to search for!

Anyway, maybe I'll start one up this weekend though I hate doing it mid-deal like others do because I feel like that screws people who just watch their subscribed threads - they won't see new posts and will think things have died down.
