Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Wow, schuerm, that is pretty crappy. You'd think they would know you were pairing things up at least.

As for people hearing the sale isn't till the weekend, I dunno now. It could be that the comm that reset the sale yesterday because of the glitch said to wait a few more days for a fixed auot-coupon to be implemented. Any insiders (hawaiiboy, maybe) know the scoop on what is supposed to happen from here on out? I know that they had a manual coupon, though, that did the trick (B1G1 50% off that is) yesterday. I guess not too many of use know, actually, since there isn't that many deals with B1G1 50% off (though there are exceptions: Beatles RB + Lego Rock Band for PS3 for $22.50 total is pretty nice).
I got it corrected so everything worked out. It is always shocking when you hear somebody try to match things up so you get the cheapest possible game instead of the way it actually should be. Maybe people allow it or something (afraid to say anything). Not sure.

I did talk to a manager at a different store and from what they said, it is now a manual code they need to enter. Don't hold me to that and, if true, not sure how long that will last. That is just what I was told. I didn't buy anything at the store, I just went to ask about the return I was trying to do.
So that's the glitch I missed out on yesterday, huh? Damn. I would've liked to have picked up Borderlands and maybe God Of War 3(again) for $40 or so total.
The glitch took 50% off of everything. Was YMMV as some stores didn't honor it or even know about any sort of deal.

I went to one today and she had to manually do it. Bitch seemed irritated that she had to figure out what half of $14.99 is. Took her 2 minutes to figure it out. LOL

it is a manual barcode now and should be for the duration of the sale. the sale lasts at least til jun 7 and i believe longer than that. the sale is on its just there are a lot of uninformed stores/employees that still dont know about this sale. it was very poorly communicated and and i'm guessing there is not alot of signage promoting this sale as most stores i dont believe have any b1 g1 50% signs since its been so long since they've done this.

All it takes is some cardboard, crayons, and a little imagination.

OK....Mixed Results today:

BB#1 = Had B1G50% Sign. Picked up PS3 Darksiders, X360 L4D2, Wii No More Heros 2, DS M&L Bowsers inside story. Total=$89.26

BB#2 = jackpot 50% ALL GAMES (Had to ask) Picked up Wii T VS C, Wii Mario Sonic Winter Games, PS3 Dante's Inferno Divine Edition, X360 Lost. Total = 56.79

BB#3 = NOTHING, said there was no sale and made a call. When confronted with todays receipt from BB#2, lady simply said "Good for you, we have no game sales. Period!." Ouch...I had parked by the door and honked my horn 3 times quickly. I wanted the clerk to see my car and my extended middle finger. It was an in the moment move and I probably wouldn't do again. But it felt right at the time.

BB#4 = b1g1 50% ( informed as I walked in the doors) Looked for about 20 minutes and talked myself out of the crap I was considering and pulled the plug on BBV. My backlog is getting FILTHY

Crazy mixed results on this deal...very manic indeed.

so at bbv #2 you asked if it was 50% off all games and they said yes??

hmmm so there might still b a chance but suuuuper ymmv

I couldn't resist and hit up three more stores today.

Again, none of the workers knew of any sale when I asked. This was really funny at one store since they had a large glossy poster advertising the B1G1 50% sale on a large floor bin.

Eventually they all did learn of the sale and rang it up properly (too bad I never got the glitch pricing).

Between these three stores I walked away with...

One Wet
iconxbox360.gif

One Hawx
iconxbox360.gif

One RB2
iconps3.gif

Two Beatles RB
iconps3.gif

Two Toy Story Mania
Three Lego RB
iconps3.gif

All in all not too bad. I got a few games to feed to the backlog and a few for trades.

The only real question for me is whether I should trade the Lego RB's to AMAZON or walk in to TOYS r US. It's currently the same at both places. I'm leaning to Toys r Us for more immediate gratification.

Besides, I'm probably going to get either SMG2 or Sin&P2 (maybe both) there since Target, Kmart and Bestbuy deals next week aren't all that great.

Big thanks to IO for all the time you put into this thread.

That's a BIG YO

I mentioned 50% off all at EVERY BBV I went into today.

Insane that AVP is 49.99...after the K-Mart deals, I cant justify this game used at the best possibly price point, $25 + tax.

but wait a sec... the other deal was BOGO FREE, not 50% off... and it was only for $14.99 and under titles... Crap, that glitch was the best ever huh...

when does this end anyways? And don't support this sale, they r just going to keep giving us 50% off rather than give us a free game... anywhoz... When does this end??

TIA

Hey all, just got back from a 10 day trip overseas. Can someone briefly sum up what's going on? I see that it's B1G1 half off on all used games, but then I see this business about a glitch and now I'm confused. Is the B1G1 half off all used actually a sale and they had a glitch about it being on ALL or what? Thanks, and again, sorry for the flaming opportunity. I try not to do them to often.

seriously if people take the time to look back and see "glitch" in this thread, how do they not also take the time to read "Dead" that shortly follows? Welcome to CAG :applause::lol:
Hey all, just got back from a 10 day trip overseas. Can someone briefly sum up what's going on? I see that it's B1G1 half off on all used games, but then I see this business about a glitch and now I'm confused. Is the B1G1 half off all used actually a sale and they had a glitch about it being on ALL or what? Thanks, and again, sorry for the flaming opportunity. I try not to do them to often.
On monday blockbusters system was ringing up all used games at 50% off but it was a glitch it should be fixed now, some people are still getting that deal its very ymmv though. But i managed to get a ton of good deals on monday :)

The official sale should be b1g1 50%off
so is this "b1g1 50% off" OR "b1g1, 50% off"? i'm confused.
how is this confusing?!?!

You buy 1st game you get the 2nd game 50% off (cheapest one is the game that is 50%).

Not hard to understand.
whats up with lego rock band?
Why is people getting it?
Doesn't seem to get any good TIV (~20) any where that I can see.
Maybe they want to play it? I've played it with my kids and it's a lot of fun. In fact, it's the only version of Rock Band that my kids will play, so it's pretty much the only version of Rock Band that I'll play as I'd much rather play the game with them then by myself.

You need to read older posts to find where the $20 TIV is or you can check at more Trade in places.

Wow this guy is talking to a Flipper from way back ha ha... Kids these days :D
']WOW, when this this sale start again...

I'm trying to catch up on what happened, and seem to get the jest, but can somebody tell me when the sale ends? The OP said May 7th, but that's long gone... Also, when on earth did this begin???

TIA
If I have May 7th in there that is a typo - I meant June 7th as that is what one manager told me (plus hawaiiboy has confirmed it).

Actually, me too. I bought a few thinking it was $20 at EZtrade-in and I think it was when I left to go to BBV. When I got back it was $10...

So yeah, I'd like to know too. I read this thread incessantly and I must have missed it myself, so don't be so harsh!

Edit - Searching for it came up with nothing... Doing some research, it is $12 at Dealtree/EZtrade-in (and presumably also Best Buy), $13 at Gazelle, $12.50 at Amazon, and $12.50 at GS. So I guess GS is the best option if they still have that 30% bonus deal ($17.50 after that + Edge). But still, it really isn't worth picking up at B1G1 50% off in any of those cases (with the actual cost being $11.25). So, what am I missing?

Are you guys finding all these games at regular BBVs or Gamerush/BBVs? I stopped by a few regular BBVs and they were pretty barren in terms of used games, both now and during the previous B1G1. I'm thinking of driving a little farther to a Gamerush but want to know if it'll be worth the trip.

Are Best Buy trade-in, EZTrade-in and Dealtree all basically the same thing? They seem to be related when I google them.

I haven't been to an actual Gamerush store in 3 years. Some regular BBV stores are overlowing with games. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the bigger regular stores and Gamerush locations any more, anyway. I haven't seen anyone mention a Gamerush-specific thing in a long time.

Yes.

And I'd still like to know where this magical and apparently obvious to everyone but me $20 for Lego RB PS3 is coming from.

weird, went out again today.. bought 2 9.99 games, they manually entered some code in, but only took 3 bucks off, the guy was cool bout it and manually changed the price, too bad he didnt take b1g1.. only b1b50%... o well

so does anyone know when the next b1g1 sale is? I heard it was at the end of this b1g1 1/2 sale (June 7) is this true?

I am hoping it isn't that soon. Unless they transfer a TON of rentals and have a bunch of massive price drops there isn't really going to be anything great in the $14.99 range by then.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. If you have Blockbuster credit or have games reserved there get your money back or use your credit now.. Nintendo cut off there credit and they are receiving no more Nintendo Product. They are desperetly running around trying to reserve or get copies from Gamestop, Wal-mart, and Best Buy to cover the reserves. Our company was specifically told not to sell multiple copies to them. If they file for Bankrupcy your money goes ..poof.

I'd be happy to flip over a few GS Nintendo titles if they'd raise the TIVs. How do you think they got all those Octomanias and Cranium Kabookis already on their shelves.

Just so as everyone is not confused, I merged a new thread in the Deals forum started by arcurifisher (post #4192 above) into the BBV thread. I figured there isn't anyone on CAG who has BBV credit or preorders and doesn't read this thread, so the info (if true) belongs here. Hawaiiboy, anything to this?

If it is true, I wonder what triggered it? Maybe all those cheap copies of Mario & Sonic, Mario Galaxy, Mario Sluggers, etc, that they sold during the B1G1?
Please don't go Blockbuster. B1G1 sales are going to be sorely missed.
Nintendo cutting them off is not an indication of much of anything - it could be they broke some sort of rule set down by Nintendo (like all those cheap used prices). Who knows... But the demise of HWV should be a huge boost to BBV - if they fold now that would be very disappointing!
Please don't go Blockbuster. B1G1 sales are going to be sorely missed.
Having recently worked there (and been screwed out of a deserved promotion). I won't really miss them and look forward to the closing liquidation if it happens. Anyone else hear anything about this? I know the company was restructuring it's debt and even mentioned this in e-mails during christmas.

BBV and HWV have been the best deals I have gotten on CAG, and I have pretty much built up my current gen library off of the sales they have had. I am sad that HWV is now nearly dead, and soon will be entirely gone, and it will be another sad day for CAGs when BBV is gone.
look forward to the closing liquidation if it happens.
Sorry, but I won't. Liquidations are nearly always a much worse deal than regular sales like the B1G1. Not only are they one-and-done, of course, but they will probably mark all the used games up to $5 less than retail and start with them at 20% off. People will buy all the good stuff then because they are stupid and no deals will be had by CAGs that come anywhere close to the B1G1 or even the current B1G1 50% off.

Just take BBVs own store closing sales as an example. During some previous B1G1 sales I went to a few stores that were closing and had games 20% off. Since this was an "internal" liquidation it wasn't handled by a third-party so the games remained at Blockbuster prices. However, the 20% was in place of the B1G1 that other, non-closing stores, were running. Thus for any of the $14.99 and under games, the "liquidating" store was actually selling them for more than the regular ones . It will only be worse if they enter total liquidation ala Circuit City.

This is all speculation on my part. ;)

If the above information is accurate, and given the financial situation they're in, they likely owe Nintendo a good bit of money, but were allowed to continue purchasing product from them on credit. It seems Nintendo has decided to stop selling to Blockbuster until they pay what they already owe. They will probably make a deal or find some way to pay off what they owe Nintendo quickly so they can continue to order, before it becomes a bigger impact on their sales and rentals.

I still thought they were getting $20 when I picked them up. But it wasn't too bad as one copy was for a relative, so I only had two to clear out and I bought those copies mainly to get the Beatles RB and RB2.

Right now, worst case scenario has me breaking even on Lego RB,
iconps3.gif
version.

I forgot to call Gamestop to verify the TIV on Lego RB as I'm still thinking of going to Toys r Us for those two copies unless they give a better value.

Another thing, anyone passing on the incomplete Toy Story Mania games may want to pick them up, if you were planning on buying RDR, SMG2 or UFC. Gamestop has a trade promo of trade two games for $40 credit towards the purchase of those three games.

I had completely forgotten about that deal and did pass on a couple of game only TSM copies. It still amazes me how the Wii list of eligible games usually carries a bunch of older titles where the PS3/360 list is mostle new releases.

FWIW, there's still gold in those incomplete Toy Story hills.;)

The two complete copies I got yesterday are NOW going to GS and hopefully I can get Special Edition copy of RDR.:bouncy:

And if I can remember where I saw those incomplete TSMs, I'll put in another trade towards SMG2, although I not too hopeful of getting those. I'm not going on another treasure hunt under this sale, especially since it's been really hard trying to find good deals to pair up.

Happy Hunting!

:shock::oops: My mistake, I misread the original post...I thought we were talking about

Beatles Rock Band and not

Lego Rock Band, because I was going crazy and buying a lot of the Beatles during the glitch for the $20 flip. I'm really sorry to all that I mislead.

Yes, it's true about the nintendo thing. Each store earlier this week had to go to Gamestop and preorder a certain amount of copies of super mario galaxy 2 (usually 5-7) depending on revenue of the store. They are going to be used as rentals and I guess to fill any preorders, though I don't know of anyone preordering a copy.

We are in the process of reorganizing the game section and there is going to be a renewed effort to promote the trade in program. I haven't seen any promo type of stuff so I don't know why they think things will change.
