Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I'm thinking there will be a B1G1 in late January or February. We are definitely due for one. I would love to find Uncharted 1 and Ratchet and Clank TOD with a B1G1 deal. Heck, I'd buy them both for $9.99 if I could find them.

I'm thinking they are a lost cause and they aren't going to have any sales on their games, but I hope I'm wrong. The inventory around here for games $14.99 and under isn't worth much even if they had a B1G1.

Do they ship all of that stuff out before it drops to 80% off

no, most of the games were sold by the time they hit 30% off. most of the $54.99 games werent sold til they hit 50% and by 80% they had only a handful of junk left. i.e. rock revolution(from me).

Anybody seen any new price drops on used games at Blockbuster? I haven't been around a Blockbuster lately, and haven't seen any recent drops. I have some Blockbuster credit I'd like to use, but was trying to wait for either a B1G1 deal, or some price drops.

Just repriced some games for monday, nothing major. A lot of decent games dropping in price, but the prices are not good themselves. Resident evil went down maybe, prototype, wolverine..stuff like that. All down 5-10$ from before, but still higher than the familyvideo or gamefly sales, by a lot.

G-force for wii went down to 9.99. We had it at 24.99 before, but I'm going to guess it WAS cheaper, and someone missed it last time. Spectrobes for wii also went down to 9.99. I thought that was supposed to be a good pokemon knock off so for 10 bucks I guess it's ok. Again though, the ps3/360 lists are just lacking with the majority of titles more expensive than nearly any store running good deals.

Well Bbv finally has a trade is promo much like GS but it's a rather lame attempt that will fail like everything else Bbv seems to do now. It's trade 2 games off a list and get any preorder for $9.99. The list is PS3 and X360 and it's basically all new games that have come out in the last month or so. I looked over the list quickly but didn't see anything that we could find on clearance for cheap anywhere. I looked up a few tiv of the qualifying games and all the ones I looked up had a tiv of $25 so this is not a deal at all. Trade in 2 games with values of $25 and get a game for $9.99. Wow do they think people are really that dumb. The only hope is Bbv is slow to update things so in a few months this list could be good once we can find the games on clearance somewhere. I'll have more time to look at the list on Thursday and post the titles but don't hold ur breath. Or if u stop in they should have the signage promoting this "deal".

Bummer. I'll still keep an eye on this topic just in case they have a cool clearance on new games like the time they were selling Ratchet and Clank for $18 when it was still around $40 everywhere else.

BBV is really starting to show its age with all these promotions that some idiot in upper management actually thinks are "sales driving promotions" (and maybe they would have been 4-5 years ago). I just received a flyer in the mail last week begging me to come back to BBV and "enticing" me by offering unlimited $1.99 rentals for a month.

Read that again. That's not an unlimited month of rentals for $1.99. It's unlimited $1.99 rentals for a month. Or better translated to $0.99 MORE per movie than Redbox gives me all the damn time. It's like they're only trying to appeal to damned morons who suck at math and have no common sense. With that kind of target demographic, how well do they really expect to do?

I find it hilarious that year after year, BBV was jacking up rental prices until there was no way to get a new release and pay less than $4. And now it's come back to bite them in the ass big time. They can't compete with Netflix's shipping, streaming, and selection. And they can't compete with Redbox's cost and convenience. The only customers they have left are the uninformed. The only chance they have to stay afloat is to offer something completely different, and something that people would actually come to your store to get rather than going elsewhere (I'm looking at you books, dvd players, surround sound, etc).

Great, it sounds like they are trying to copy GS but utterly failed to see the point. Yeah, sure, include a few of the high priced games like GS does so you can entice a few people to trade those "at cost". But you have to include others that are sort of a deal to get people to preorder - especially somewhere they wouldn't normally like BBV. I remember them not getting my last several preorders a few years back so I'd never preorder there again unless it was an incredible deal.

But it is interesting that they are doing something, anyway, to encourage trade-ins. I thought they were doing their best to discourage them for the last year+, so that's a positive sign anyway.

Maybe what they are trying to do is get people who don't normally deal with places like GS to trade there after seeing the deal while browsing for rentals? But then those people probably wouldn't have a lot of newly-released games to trade. It doesn't seem to make much sense all around ;).

I'm so close to cancelling my BBV through the mail, now that games incur late charges, they have basically devalued my membership as the 1 remaining coupon ends up costing me money.

When will these idiots match netflix's streaming program, I watch almost all my tv now through my xbox either via netflix or hulu (via my PlayOn server).
I remember the good ol' days...
I still go to stores and see games I've flipped like Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer and Legendary.

That's a long rental, for 1.99. For my store, that's 5 day rental + 5 day grace period. Night of the 10th day after closing is when they would charge you for the movie(with the option of returning it for the next 10 days for a full refund). I get the point you're making, but it's not for a 1 day rental.

Fair enough. But even then, who are you appealing to and what's the benefit? I watch the movie on night one, and then I just don't have to feel like returning for another 9 days? Or I'm a complete idiot and rent the movie 9 days before I finally get around to watching it?

Again, I feel they're targeting a ridiculously small and unreliable demographic. As an informed consumer, I always try to get the most out of my money. I watch the movie the same day I rent it, and I have no problems returning it within 24 hours. Hell, sometimes I do that with my Netflix, and I'm not even required to. I don't need to pay $0.99 extra for unnecessary garbage days.

In the past, when BBV and the like were the only options, how many times did people get ripped off because they DID return movies the next day, or had them just sitting around the house for 3-4 days after viewing them? I'm sure it happened all the time. But those days are gone. People don't need BBV's antiquated system anymore.

Not arguing and I don't really care, just saying, I get late movies in all night long. I get the same people that pay 3-10$ of late fees, every, single, time, with more late fees and yet they still won't just do a movie pass, online rentals or switch companies they rent from. Others that rent 3-5 movies at a time, once a week, all for 5 day rentals. Late fee type customers(or ones who get week rentals) are not a small demographic. As an "informed customer", they are not targeting you, the same as gamestop doesn't target to most of us with their pre-order pushing. Why pay 60+tax when I can get it much cheaper from amazon or TRU with GCs.

Big price drops on some pretty good used games. A few of these my store did not have in both ps3/360, but I will assume the drop is the same for both consoles as that's how it usually works.

:360::ps3: Brutal Legend 29.99
:ps3: Bionic Commando 9.99
:360::ps3: Fight Night Round 4 19.99
:ps3: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra 19.99
:wii: Dead Space Extraction 19.99

Did them tonight for my store, but they actually change tomorrow, so I guess if you're west coast don't run out to your nearest blockbuster for one of these. We're corporate so should be no discrepancies in prices.

These are some BBV TIVs from a few days ago. All for the 360. Maybe someone will find this information useful.

Damnation 15
Chronicles of Riddick 12
Wheelman 10
Wanted Weapons of fate 10
Velvet Assassin 10

I forgot that one. If you take a look at it there are some cheaper games on there, wet, saw(ps3 only), GH van halen if you got it for free is a nice one. Mostly way too new titles, as these promos usually work at something like GS, but there might be something to grab onto if you've hit some great clearance/amazon deals.

A couple of pretty decent games for the Wii got price drops recently:

G-Force 9.99
Mushroom Men 9.99

Bought and played both ($10 is my sweet spot) - worth it for that price. Would have been even more worthwhile if it was during a B1G1...
Fair enough. But even then, who are you appealing to and what's the benefit? I watch the movie on night one, and then I just don't have to feel like returning for another 9 days? Or I'm a complete idiot and rent the movie 9 days before I finally get around to watching it?
I dont know why you have to call people idiots. I used to routinely rent movies on Tuesday when I had no intention of watching them til Friday. Why? They would be the new release movies for that week and if you waited til Friday/Saturday you were liable to be SOL.

Also, you must not have kids. Kids will want to watch stuff over and over again so you can get more than one night of viewing out of a rental.

But I get what you're saying, you and Vortextk. There are other options now that would more benefit people. But, as you will find more and more in life, people are sheep who fear change. They tend to stick with what they know.

Anybody try this yet?

In the good-old-days of the trade 3 get any used game for $5, BB/GR used to give you the credit for the 3 games as well. I wonder if they have come to their senses, or if they give you the trade-in-value for the two games you trade in as well.

i.e.

Scenario 1 (likely)
game 1 + game 2 + $10 = game 3

Scenario 2 (doubtful)
game 1 + game 2 + $10 = game 3 + TIV game 1 + TIV game 2

That sure would be amazing. Let's hope the people in charge of this deal were the same ones in charge of dropping the TIV for Cranium Kabooki ;)

Good idea, although I doubt it. An interesting note as mentioned above is Brutal Legend is $29.99, so if you only have one game, you can take a $5 loss, not really worth it but an idea nonetheless.

I have a NBA Live 10 pending in so if I can find another game on the cheap from that list I will check it out.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but that Dante figure that you get for preordering at gamestop, blockbuster also has the same thing. If you get the TIV for the games with that preorder promotion I'm definitely going to go put a reserve on the game.

Has anyone tried this yet? Theres an opportunity for some really good deals if it includes TIV. I remember back when the 360 was about to launch and they had this same deal it included the TIV. Everyone was buying copies of Dead Rights cheap at TRU and making a fortune at BBV

Awesome, I'm really hoping to dump my batman arkham asylum and tekken 6 for FFXIII so hopefully the TIV is included.

Dont know if it has been mentioned but at 2 different BB locations I saw used version of Kingdom Hearts for the DS for $24.99 ;)

According to the guide I read about it, it just adjusts the TIVs for the games to $25, so you get $50 in credit. It works with any $59.99 game (out now or coming soon). $59.99 game - $50 trade = $9.99.

Since many of the games are trading in for $22 right now anyway, you only get a couple extra bucks.

Am I blind, or is there a list of game prices for Blockbuster that range up the $9.99 price tag?

I'd just like to see a complete list of their used games prices.

See post #445 on this page. Plus it's been quoted in later posts (a few above yours).

At least I think that's the answer to your question.

Ah, well that's a bummer. I was ready to go on a preordering spree like I did the last time that deal included TIV. That was gaming heaven for me back in the day.

Traded in Pikmin (Wii) for $6 last night & picked up Brutal Legend for PS3 (down to $29.99 used)

Also, as a heads up, there are a few surprising games discounted to $9.99, including Ninja Gaiden II & Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction & the original Uncharted are also down to this price point as well. I would love for someone that works for BB to post an updated list as well *hint hint*

Anyone know if BB sells iTunes cards? Checked two stores in my local area that "thought" they sold them and didn't have any instock. I have $15 credit there and am not really finding anything I want to spend it on. But I want Chinatown Wars for my iPod Touch so figured i'd try to get an iTunes card.

If not, are there any 1:1 trades to some place like ToysRUs that does sell them?

I don't recall ever seeing iTunes cards at BBV. They had a very limited selection of GCs. It was a bummer once they banned using a BBV GC to buy other GCs.

You might as well buy an order of fires. You'll end up getting more for your "investment".

Do it...and next month you can sell them for a couple of nice shiny quarters.;)

Ask them if you can use the gifts cards to buy them...

Why you say that? Both will become turds after awhile.

Anyone know when Block buster will have another $10 off coupon on used games like they did before x-mas. It was an amazing deal...
got Spiderman WOS, GHWT, Saints Row 2, Assassins Creed, Mortal Kombat vs DC and Lost via Domus all for like 5 bucks each....was the best x-mas ever!

any idea if those will happen again?
