Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Just called 2 gamestops around here and they heard of nothing. I was like 'well I will come check with a manager sometime', and he mentioned they have 10% off if you buy the strategy guide and I said no way no thanx. hmmmm, i want 10 back, lol.

I believe people are getting GS promo confused with the BBV one, BBV is you trade 2 games and get FF 13 for $9.99 preorder it and you get $5 back
Meh, neither of those games have dropped at any of the stores i checked here yet =/. Still 24.99 and 19.99
You did take them to the counter and ring them up, right?

*Face palms at own idiocy*

Well, i thought about it, but then i remembered a few bad experiences i had with asking for scans compared to the sticker price. Back to BBV tommorow!!!!
^Yeah, go back tomorrow. My store still had Brutal Legend marked at $34.99, but rang up at the correct price ($9.99).
Yeah, just went on Wednesday/Tuesday, both stores had atleast 3 copies left, and hardly anyone knows about one of the stores. Definately want that Brutal Legends again, had to trade it in when i saw the TiV was tanking.

im go pick up SW for xbox 360 and Wii at BBV

so whats the key to getting the 10 off Final Fantasy?

assume you knwo what your tlaking about and hope the manager believes you...BTW there something listed on gamestop.com for a free mini guide or something

neither of the BBs in my area had a copy of brutal legend, any one want to get me one for $10 or trade for burnout paradise (360)?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but i doubt anyone is gonna settle for the exact same price they paid

Seconded. The copy of BL I picked up still had a $49.99 price tag!!!
The clerk was dumbfounded when it rang up for $9.99.

Great game, by the way. Really funny. Jack Black and Ozzy have some great lines.

was there anything special the gs employee had to do to get the 40 off ff13/gow with the SWFU? i tried unsuccessfully today. but got turned down at two different stores b/c the register wouldnt adjust. i brought my flyer but they noted the disclaimer in the fine print.

Yeah I had two sets of the wii/360 republic heroes. It worked at one store because the employee did not seemed to really give a sh*t and just manually adjusted them to 20 which was great because they became 24 because of bonuses. The other store the guy worked with me and gave about 13 a piece for them. it is just YMMV...If you have a lot of stores in your area I would just keep trying to you find the employee that does not go by the book... Good luck

i did mine on 3/1, there is a barcode they have to scan in order for the deal to show up(found it after the computer wouldnt automatically adjust the TIV's). It was in the booklet that they get that list all the upcoming promotions as well as where to place all the signs and stuff in the store. Can't remember the code but I def. know the guy scanned the barcode from that book.

This did not work when the guy tried it for me today. I went to a store and a guy tried everything short of manually adjusting it until he found the email telling them not to take it. Pointing to the line about "subject to change" he did not do the trade for me. He was very apologetic about it, but a pretty annoying experience altogether.

Well, there's your problem, since from your abbreviation it seems like you're using Star Wars: Force Unleashed.;)

But yeah, I won't even be trying to trade in 2 copies of SW:CW:RH since it's been 2-3 days since that e-mail not to take them for the promo went out and I don't feel like getting denied and trying to return the games to Blockbuster for actual cash back.

Aww crap! I just bought a set a couple hours ago and was planning to trade it in tomorrow. After reading about mixed results, I thought I could still trade them in. I have around 8 gamestops available to me. Is there any chance of this working? ALso, does anyone know the return policy for blockbuster? I cannot find any information about whether they will give you cash back or not. Dang, looks like I really screwed myself over for this one :bomb:

edit : Does anyone know what exactly the email they got from headquarters said? Did it say something like, do not take anymore copies of star wars the clone wars xbox 360 or the wii.

edit 2 : Will it help my chances if I don't bring the blockbusters box and rip off the sticker off of the top side of the disk? I'm just curious because it seems as though it was BBV that forced them to take SW off the list or am I wrong?

I was able to trade in both of these with no issues other than the employee having to manually enter the information. Definitely YMMV.

As far as BBV's return policy goes, it looks like they will only replace or repair the game you purchased for up to 30 days. I don't see anything about refunds, which probably only occur if they have no replacements.

haha. can you honestly tell me that you bought something without opening it or having a system for it? i havent played a star wars game in more than a decade.

That's what i thought also, but I see the game (all formats) is on sale for $19.99 on GS's weekly deals page. It might have just been a coincidence. I'm hoping it's a temporary reduction and the price goes back up after a week. Maybe I can use it to trade when I pick up GOW3.

I'm nervous that it's a perm price drop. usually it will say sale or have the original price under the picture of the game but it says "Only 19.99". I don't know what I will do with these two games if it really is perm

I was actually turned down on Tuesday/Wednesday, not based on an e-mail... but because the person had no clue how those promotions worked and it wouldnt auto do it... so he told me to just come back on Tuesday and they would manually do it if it didnt work then. I guess with an email going out telling them not to, I'm going to get stuck with a copy of it... since I managed to get a different store to actually do it.

You are correct in one aspect my fellow CAG. I picked up 2 copies (Xbox and PS3) SW at BBV at 10:00 am that Monday and got to GS at 10:05. The drop had already happened and the GS manager informed me he knew it dropped that morning. Then it became an employee discretion call (to override or not).

I've noticed in previous threads that this is happening pretty frequently now on other games, so it is safe to assume GS have their boys in here (and other sites like SD) informing them of potential/non-potential drops at retailers and adjusting accordingly.

This isn't far-fetched or paranoia. They've been taking a hit for sometime by us CAGs, SDers (FTF, Soduko, etc) and seem to be catching on. Should we assume a billion dollar company like GS do not have their "people" in here (and other sites), we are only fooling ourselves.

picked up BL ps3 playing it...so far im not really convinced it's fun

anyother suggestions to swap it out wit?

I saw rainbow six vega 2 for 10 bucks that i might get instead

I called my local stores before going and they said star wars clone wars was on the list. They then had to manually price adjust but I preordered both games with star wars and a couple other games. Call first you might get lucky.

Edit: this was yesterday btw.
haha. can you honestly tell me that you bought something without opening it or having a system for it?
Actually yes. I bought Crackdown for the 360 that I was intending to buy, but I ended up buying a PS3 instead, so I had to sell that copy of Crackdown(from a trade on CAG when it clearanced at Target)to someone else on here. Although, I did buy games for the 360 and Wii during the Hollywood Video $5 game sale, since most of them had some pretty damn good TIV's at Gamestop.:D Otherwise I haven't bought anymore games for systems I don't(and possibly won't)own.

There is someone with the name Gamestop Tom or something to that effect on CAG now and I think there was someone else a while back who also claimed to have worked for GS corporate on the boards. So I don't doubt it. That's why I should've only PM'd the big time flippers on this thread and hope that they(and I) didn't blurt out the price drop to flip possibility in the GS thread.

Although I admit to being guilty of mentioning it quite openly in the GS thread. But you have to think that perhaps the SWCW:RH game was a week away from a price drop to $19.99 anyway and that GS/BBV lowered their prices and TIV's due to that and not the flipping.

R6V2 is a awesome game, I would highly recommend it over BL.

It's wasn't too amazing of a deal, but I finally picked up Armored Core 4 for 6.99.
They've had it there before for a long time, but as a POG with no insert or anything. But last night when I stopped by, low and behold, a copy with insert. Although as I was typing this, I just realized that I need to check for a manual. There isn't one...

sweet man played BL a lil more...it actually good...think I might keep it...
but I am also gonna get R6V2 (bummer though since it comes in generic case)

I will cross my fingers and try each of the 8 stores around me. In the likely chance that I get rejected 8/8 times, is my only choice to trade it in for 4$ at GS (6 with the 50%)? Does BBV give cash refunds because I can't imagine having a good enough reason for them to give me one even though I just purchased it last night. Will they let me exchange one copy SWRH for brutal legends?

You can always ask the clerks at the counter if they could find an original case/manual/artwork for you. I've only ended up with maybe 1-2 generic cover games from Blockbuster/Hollywood Video since I learned how to speak up and ask for the rest of the stuff that comes with the games when they're new.

It never hurts to ask, since many of the Blockbuster stores are keeping drawers full of PS3/360/Wii cases in case people ask for them specifically.

no price changes this week. fairly big transfer from rental to pog though not as big as previous weeks. got an email earlier this week saying that the game transfers will be bigger than normal to stock up on pogs. so this could be a good sign of a b1g1 in the near future.

was able to trade in 2 stars wars (1 wii 1 x360)towards FF XXIII. didnt work so i showed him the print out and he over rode it. ended up paying $14.xx.

am I doing it right? Should have bought two..

Best is the $16 bonus on a $4 trade in manually, plus an extra $4 for some reason..

^ it was treated as a regular trade in so it got a 2$ from edge I believe? and also 2$ from the extra 50% that applied onto the 4$ base. Just came back home and sucessfully traded in 2 copies of star wars after 2 tries:)

Just came back from a BBV.

I bought Star Wars Republic Heroes.

Got home opened up the case. Pulled out the instruction manual. And guess what? Hidden behind the instruction manual was a CoD MW2 disc!

I am in awe...

thanks! :)

I was able to find a GTA IV case for my ps3 which has been unknowingly hard to find in the gamestops in my county.

It was probably a personal copy of the last person to rent the game. They could have stuck it in there when putting in the rental and forgot about it.

Now that poor child has lost his only Christmas present. His puppy just died this past week and he's fighting cancer as we speak. He probably won't even make it to see the next Call of Duty. Poor poor Sammy.

Ah fuck'em. Congrats on finding the game.

Awesome dude. That's the best deal anyone has found at BBV since like.... ever.

I picked up Pure for 9.99 today. Just an FYI that seems like a really good price for what is (in 2 hours of play since I got home) a crazy fun game.

Thanks guys. That was some dumb luck.

Felt a little guilty about it. And then I remembered how much I supported the BBV franchise through the years.

Still haven't netflixed yet.

How does gamestop do trade-ins now? Do they charge refurb fees if game doesn't have manual and original art cover or do they still take game only and if it looks good, u get full credit???

Ditto! And the BBV Employee who stashed it is probably kicking himself in the butt for not just stealing it outright! :)
